For instance, when the interviewer remarked, “If it weren’t for your color, I’d think you were Chinese,” it struck me as a microaggression, tying language ability to someone’s race or appearance. Comments like that can come across as insensitive, even if unintentional, and I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to navigate that moment. If someone said something similar to a person of Chinese descent here in America, it could easily cause offense. Wishing you all the best moving forward, you truly deserve it!
