What is art to you?
Lol no reply...art to me is Richard Hammond
Art = soul. To me it's what makes us human.
Yes
bus
Anything that moves you can be considered art.
The painter was really sweet. From the way he looked really excited to listen to James when he called him and how he got all happy about his Haiku. Really nice.
I agree.
And he actually put his easel down just to clap for him, aww
The dialog between James and the filmmaker was gold, I'm glad they left that in
8 months and no one has said anything...?
"But this is art, and that's photography, no disrespect"
James May, to professional photographer
Jim: “hello”
Man: “hello”
Man: *says nothing*
Jim: “you’re welcome”
Jim?
Wait never mind I understand now
bim
How dare you insult bim with the word jim
You mean bim
How I greet people. "Hello." "Hello." "You're welcome."
This is a legendary moment for James, small yet sublime in its meaning. I hope Sakurai-san (who was NOT introduced and that was a bit rood tbh) could understand or was provided an accurate translation of James's thoughts and the ensuing "bus in the back of the shot" debate.
"You don't particularly want to watch me having a big argument with the crew about the meaning of art"
Oh how wrong you are.
"I appreciate that you, the viewers, don't particularly want to watch me having a big argument [...]" No, James May, I could watch that for hours.
On the news: James May punches a producer and gets fired from Amazon
hammond is next
Well one of them already did it so Might as well make it two out of three
As if Amazon is going to let them go. Even now BBC still regret letting them go.
On the news: producer punches Richard Hammond, who then gets banned from driving ever, ever again
Sassy and deep James
*Bim
I didn't notice the bus, and even the point after the bus was a great point.
I like both sides, why do editors need to feel like they are right all the time?
Some things are worth keeping in. The heat of it was great.
Becuase this is their creation? Their craft is to depict the best image they can
@@BBSHOCKZ Yess but Its the same with nature documentaries, do not interfere
@@roejogan9517 they don't interfere with the animals of course, but they do decide on what they want to show us as the audience. For example, a lot of the attire docs from the BBC are faked, made in studios etc, if they can't find an animal theyve been tracking for months, last resort is to hire one and so on. The role of the director and camera operators isn't simply to film and hit the record button. Its to tell a convincing story
@@BBSHOCKZ I agree with you but too an extent...
A bus i didn't notice until Tom pointed it out, isn't going to ruin their shot nor will it stop the show from telling a convincing story
As an Artist, painter...hearing my favorite Artist resonate some great points~
This Mt. Fuji painting has to be one of my most fave!
Aren't you the one that painted the flowery thing in one of James' mail time?
Janes was totally right about art existing alongside the real world
He called mount Fuji a triangle😂😆😂
I'm an architecture student see, and i sketch as a hobby, but I channel the "soul" of the art through details, but sometimes I make things bigger and/or disappear to enhance my point. I completely agree with James' argument there about the art as interpretation and the world as the deciphered. dr. James May, the never uninteresting uninteresting man.
I think that James Daniel May is one of the most interesting people on this planet. Love you James.
Couple goals
this- this is the kind of comment that scares me
I love the Great Bus Discussion.. one of my favorite parts of the whole show
I actually liked james' painting
I thought his painting would be a lot worse. It's a pretty great effort.
Angry Mr. Bim!
angerbim
I want the uncut altercation.
Good ol Bim
In case anyone is wondering, the painter’s name is Takayoshi Sakurai (櫻井孝美)
Jame’s initials are JDM
This should be top comment
First the lunch at the train that he wasn’t supposed to eat, and then the Bus... poor Bim!!
There's a bus in the shot.
It's disgusting.
Absolutely ruined.
Haha I’m on board with what James said here 😅 I agree, what’s wrong with the bus ? It’s life !
3:52 Just noticed that they listed James's full name and age with his painting as if it was in a grade school art show :-) HA HA!
This is the most interesting debate ever. James May is truly the guy who makes boring things interesting. I’d love to meet him. Lol
That’s one brave cinematographer 😂
1:36 That's absolutely stunning
Only James could stop an entire program to have an argument 😂
Well…… maybe Jeremy would to hahahaha
3:20 why does he look like a shocked oblivion NPC right here? 🤣
I think it is incredible that he said the bus was chinese 😂
It was
i like the philosophical talk at the end
May's painting was really good though
I can watch james talking about arts all day long
James is likeable
more than the other two guys.
Better together.
James May is legend. All most allways of time I understend that guy
I'm actually quite happy to see the bus
What a sweetie the artist is omds
James Daniel May... JDM, in Japan! 🤣🤣
As a viewer, I didn't mind the bus at all. As James said, it's part of life. As a viewer from another country, watching what happens in real life in Japan is interesting to watch. Even though we also have buses here in the States, Japan's is bright yellow, therefore it's different than what we have, thus it's interesting. Isn't that part of the show, to show the viewers interesting things about Japan?
At least he didn't punch the director or whoever that was
Just thinking about all the 'bus in the shot debate' moments I've missed because people cut it out... Thanks Amazon!
Does anyone know the name of the painter? His work is amazing!!!!
His name is ( forgive me if it’s misspelt ) Takayoshi Samaria-san.
James Daniel Bim May
Painting only Fuji in Japan is probably the best place to paint only Fuji.
Save Sanditon please! #sanditon #savesanditon 💖🤞
What series is this from?
our man in japan on Amazon Prime
James May almost did a Clarkson on that producer.
We need Bob Ross for this one for it to be done properly
To be fair, it is just a mountain and that was just a bus.
I love the guy, genuinely, but I always thought it was a bit hurtful that James would belittle the work of his crew, professional filmmakers and photographers that they are. It's not just about pointing the camera in a certain direction and pressing a button, it's about capturing the absolute most perfect moment and presenting a record of it to others, others who might not have been there to witness it with you. It's a beautiful thing that we can do that these days and it's art in its own way, much like drawing/painting/writing are all forms of art in their own respect. He loves haikus but can't see that photography is art? Strangely narrow-minded of him.
He didn't say that. He appreciated it was a type of art but the meaning is utterly different. Photography absolutely is a capture of the moment. And art is is from the soul.
I say that as a photographer.
whats that music at 1:30
Man I pity the crew
How come the pinned comment is a week ago old while the video is published one day ago?
Uploaded and commented on, and released on a scheduled delay.
@@jasnterry1313 The illusion, revealed
james may is the best
Fact: the only great photos of mount fuji is mostly at night
James may might need bob Ross
Meaning of art means we are all copycats just think about that for a moment please
I never liked all those rocks in the shot anyway
Hey Bim! Guess what?
James: blah blah bluh blah blah blah, i, me, if i could, blah blah
Painter: Fuji-san
(pronounced: hu wi san)
Shall we go to lunch? xD
James must be so fed up with that Amazon crew guy
James' painting is prettier.
PRODUCTION IS TOO POSH
They are waay too particular and delicate to situations are the Japanese. They care too much about how they are perceived by others and that bus driving past was a pretty good example of this.
>film maker was very clearly british
Japan is utterly breath taking, shame kids today only percieve Japan as just Anime.
How do you find out this excerpt is going to be interesting?, first word said by James: Rubbish!! Hahaha
Was that a genuine grump? May seems a sensible chap (apart from referring to viewers in the plural instead of addressing one person), so I'm surprised. Maybe a haircut would help.
Noooo!! Have you seen him with short hair? Doesn't suit him at all ...
