The big thing will be if we can feed the 3d models back into the prompt and give specific details. I've mostly been using AI for programming assistance and being able to feed back in a file has been the biggest help to get specific tweaks.
Take an image, crop it to get only head image. Generate the head. So all polygons and texture will be in this head only instead of being distributed to entire character. Then generate the body and connect it to the head in blender. Profit.
A trick I use to create 3D Clothing for characters. Is to utilize the Blender Controlnet skeleton to get the proportions of my character. Then use said skeleton and an Image AI generator to get a 2D T pose image. Then feed it to an image to 3D AI. It's not perfect (yet). But it's good for prototyping.
As far as generative AI go, I can actually get behind this one because it allows people to bring to life something that they drew and created themselves, into a 3D medium. I know that doesn't always have to be the case and isn't always going to be since any image can be used from any source, random generated ones included. But this is the kind of AI assisted workflow that indie dev need in such a cluttered industry, something to bring your creation and vision to life. My issue with total random generation feels more like the human assisting the AI.
What's the difference between taking an image you made and generating 3D vs taking a character concept you wrote and generating an image? In both situations you created a concept and then the AI did the creative work of rendering it to a new medium.
@@NihongoWakannai to an extent, but the generated image coming straight from the AI is prompted by a human, but ultimately its "thought process" is self governed by the program and not the creative thought process of a human, it just takes your words/prompt into consideration..so you are not in full control of what is being produced. But that is referring to image generators, this is talking about using a 3d model generator. The human should be doing the creative work, not the other way around, at least for the most part. when its your actual concept art, its creating a 3d render of something you made and not altering the image you made.. you did the creative work for the character/item at that point and the program did the tedious work modeling it into a base mesh that can then be tidied up. Not everyone is a physical artist and not everyone is a 3d artist. Find an AI assistant to do the stuff you aren't as skilled at or lack the time to do, especially for the indie devs out there. What I was trying to say here is that at least using your own concept art apposed to a strictly AI generated image is that it is creatively coming from you.. and not the program. AI image generators NEVER get what I want visually, thats why this appeals to me so much more. I can take an image I created either in real-life or in photoshop and have it turned into a 3d model faster than i could make it into one. Now we can touch it up and re-make the textures. Also, a legal technicality of purely generated images, is that you cannot own them as a creative property because of the process at which it was created.. which if your just doing it for fun is fine.. but if you are doing it professionally and truly want to be able to call it your own, creatively and legally, using purely AI generated images for that is dicey. Holy crap it works on cars too. I spent yesterday taking 600+ pictures for my usual photogrammetry workflow and fed 1 picture this got 90% of the way there, in like 20 seconds. That's awesome. It’s not good enough for what I want to do yet, but it reminds me a lot of playing with the early versions of Disco Diffusion. It’s going to be really cool, really soon!
I'm so mixed on this. I just graduated from a 3D art program. I've been saying for awhile now that if AI blows up, it will be the death of game companies. Why work for a major company when your team is only 8-12 people? I'm glad I was already planning on learning game dev, being a jack-of-all-trades will be important to stay in the industry. Excited to work on my personal projects, at least.
I think it sucks that AI is so fast that anyone who doesn't use it will be outcompeted and unable to make money in the future. But using AI takes so much of the human element out of the process...
Not only is it free, you can just... run it on your own PC, so long as you have an Nvidia graphics card. Someone made a fork that is a few-command installer on Windows (but you DO need to download the CUDA tools first). Thanks for covering this!
Thank you for showcasing this. As I have been saying AI is more of a tool than an actual replacement for the artist, it does help prototype and get measurements of a model way more easily. Unfortunately, companies like Activision for Call of Duty Black Ops 6 seem to not understand that. Probably why so many people are leaving the company and I am not just talking about the actors here.
And you can of course rebake the original texture and have both nice topology, and not have to retexture (if said character is not going to be close to camera)
My personal favorites is Rodin by hyperhuman. mainly because of the control and parameters around the “redo” button. unfortunately the Geometry options are behind paywall, but being able to go from 5000 poly’s up to 18,000 and it mostly make sense (WITH a t-pose option) is pretty nice.
