  • This is a view of the flash flood growing from our perspective about a mile up the canyon from the village of Supai, AZ. These flood waters rushed down this (normally) dry canyon to join Havasu Creek at the bottom, making it an even more destructive force.

The native man with his horse saved you! The bravery of him to go out there to warn others while his tribe and his own family were at risk.. and they lost some of their structures. I hope the hiking community can help them out to rebuild and hope they're getting the appreciation they deserve. It seems many are upset about their booked trip to Havausupai Falls being cancelled, but the tribe and their land comes first. They need to heal and hope these hikers understand that.
Glad you all made it okay. Nature is a beauty but a beast and we must respect it. Condolences to the Nickerson family

Did 9 days rafting through the canyon and this was one of the premire hikes we did. Simply amazing. Luckily we had some really knowledgeable guides and good weather. Flash floods are no joke.

If you are in desert & it starts raining, start climbing immediately, get out of the drainages.

One has to keep track of not just the weather around them but farther away as that is what is dangerous. One is responsible for themselves to do this.

I'm glad you were all safe. My father passed away in 1991 about 1 mile from the village.

Wow. Amazing video footage. Glad you got out alive. Scary stuff for sure. I was there during a regular rain storm and we had to hike back from the confluence. It was a little nerve racking as you couldn't see in the water as it was mirky, but not anything like this. Some service projects in the village would be amazing to help them rebuild. My heart feels for the Nikerson family and anyone else that is unaccounted for at this time.

Thanks for sharing! I’m still in shock that happened 2 hours after we had just flown out on the helicopter. I’m so glad you’re all okay and I truly can’t imagine how scared you must have been! Prayers for the Nickerson family!

Great video and a good warning. I think timestamps would help in the description or the video to show. Really just how crazy this happens. It's hard to put it all into perspective... Well done and glad you're safe!

What a remarkable film of your experience. I’ve been there and have seen smaller storms with those waterfalls off the canyon walls. What you witnessed is rare. There’s a beauty in seeing that power, and danger. I’m glad you got to higher ground and we warned, and had shelter afterward. Thankfully most made it out alive. Condolences for those who didn’t.

Rare? No, not at all. It’s monsoon season. Get educated!

This was reckless and careless. It shouldn't be applauded. Sure, it's great you's survived it and came out alive, but these kinds of acts put rescuers lives at risk.
    Pay attention to weather forecasts.

Do you all not hike desert canyons often? The first drizzle is when you get as high as you can and quickly. Glad you’re safe! What an adventure

Why would anyone hike there this time of year with current weather forecasts warning against it??

The forecast for monsoons is all summer long. And they spring up in less than an hour. This is a multi-hour hike.

Did anyone tell you it’s not very smart to hike and camp in a creek when it’s monsoon season? I guess the Indians didn’t warn you. Then again they want to get paid.
