Maximiliam Andersson Great cover man, it sucks that we have lost such a great inspirational and tallented figure of a man like Chris. But he will always be alive in our hearts from now until forever on. R.I.P. Chris Cornell (A great personality, singer, songwriter, HERO).
dude, everything about this is on point. the kit, that mix, the angle, your playing, and man, those cymbals. one day I'll rep Meinl haha. super bummed about Chris too.
In my dreams, this is how I wish my kit sounded. That has to be THE BEST sound I've heard in a long while. The drums are super fat and punchy with just the right amount of tone! Perfect.
First great cover! And I think drumless tracks are very nice to practice mixing the drums perfect into the song sound.... So would be nice, definitely:D
Wow! Your feel is ???? Can’t think of a complimentary word to express! There’s a ton of chops out there, but the fuel, just where you put it. Totally on point!
A great tribute to a great singer. Loved every bit of it. You nailed. Great cover man. I still cant get over the shock of Chris death. Hard to believe ... R.i.P Chris. You will live on through your great music ...
Same here, Mike. Thank you very much. Crazy that I did this one just one week before he passed.. That's why I also had to cover another Soundgarden song, to tribute him! Thanks for your kind words!
Very nice work on this tune friend! Hard to believe that this tune is already a classic...dang I'm getting old! LOL Take care brother!! Those Meinl Dual's sound great!!
I feel like this song is a good one for beginners who have been taking lessons for a little bit and finally want to try to jam something rather than their boring lessons. This song has a few easy fills and some nice kick drum that really sticks out in the song and is easy to play. Theres also nothing too fast. Aside from the 9/4 part, it's one of those that a beginner can do a "simple" version of that sounds very good and satisfying to their ear, which builds confidence. "Gimme Shelter" by the stones is another such song (iconic fills that are easy, and nothing too fast) This song also teaches a valuable lesson - - a very *slow* tempo can _also_ be hard to keep in time!!
Dave Carsley it is pretty hard if you are only learning to separate your kicks and hat but other than that, still a fun one to try nonetheless. At least from my experiences :)
Hey Max, brilliant rendition and drumming. The kit tuning sounds fantastic and is perfectly matched to the song. I've been thinking of covering of this one for a long time too since finding a drumless track like what you used here. When using a drumless track it's an opportunity to drum as if one was the original drummer on the track while maintaining the integrity of the original drumming like you covered. Yes, drumless versions are best to use as for the reason I stated - it lets the person covering the tune to express the rhythmic structure of the song in a personal way, just as the original drummer with the band did.
Thanks for the very kind words, Sal! Yes, drumless versions are cool as they let you approach it in different ways, depending on what you're going for. In my case, I tend to go for playing close to the original track, respecting the tune and its original part. On the other hand, when you have a drumless version you also have the option to kind of make it yours. Whichever approach you feel like going with! But I'm with you, that's how I tackle it :)
Dude, thanks as always, my man. Appreciate it a lot :-) Excited for when I get a permanent studio set up and can finally really dial in the 'perfect' sound, hehe!
I’ve been on a Soundgarden kick the last couple of weeks. Been years since I’ve been into then this much. It’s good to see what I’m doing right and wrong. Thanks!
It's really fun to cover tunes with the Extra Dry's, because they give many songs quite different 'feels' compared to the more common bright cymbals! It's interesting! Thanks for the kind words :)
Dude, the snare sounds amazing. I was just talking to a friend of mine on sound production, and I was listing off some of my favorite snare sounds. You hit the nail on the head on this one. Well done, brother.
Superb Max! Hard enough to memorize fills while playing along with drums, it's gotta be twice as difficult with drum less tracks. Sounds like original version to me.
It sure can be more challenging without them there, absolutely! Thanks for the kind words. The fills towards the end are a bit different as I didn't memorize everything absolutely precise in the 30~ min I had, hehe! But pretty close!
you deserve much apreciation dude. anyway i'm not a drumer but i feel you're really pay attention to every tiny details in every song that you played. good work.
Watching this cover once again since it’s so amazing , something love about this cover it’s the angle you used , you should definitely use it more often cIt’s great!
Sounds great! Don t you have a crash with more brillance and longer sound? Those ones are more like crashes and not always adapted for every parts of the song.
I sure do! I was playing around with these dry cymbals for a while though to experiment and see how they fit in different styles, etc. Makes it very different! However, I agree that a more shimmery more typical cymbal sound would be more fitting.
A combination of EQing and compression! Avoid getting it way too pingy, let it breathe, let the overheads handle a lot of it and fill in with close mic for body. I also feel like a mic on the snare side helps making it more of a snare.
Hey Max , it looks like every time I watch one of your videos I get a new question , how do you set your tom so low? I’d would like to have my tom that low but I don’t know if I either need a smaller bass drum , maybe a 20” bass drum like or smaller Toms haha
haha, questions are always welcome! And that's fantastic, hehe. Regarding the tom height, this could be achieved in many different ways. This kick is 22" and the tom is juust about the bass drum hoop. Putting the toms out towards the sides of the bass drum - as in getting as far away from the bass drums highest point- can help out. Raising the whole kit is also another option, if you're willing to mess with both drum heights and throne height. Another option (very common) is to get a snare stand and put the tom in that stand, allowing you to angle it and place it wherever you want. The last option would be either a smaller bass drum, or shallower toms. Play around with the options! The tom in this case is as far out on the mount as it possibly goes.
Maximiliam Andersson Thank you man , I started looking for options ando saw that thing you do , and the option of getting a Snare stand , but I don’t think I’m doing that , I don’t really like having only one tom , I don’t know why , I just don’t like it haha , I also found out about some toms stands , but for now I’m just going to keep the toms at the same Height and practice with that , Thank you! :)
Maximiliam Andersson Oh and i also found the option of getting a cymbal stand and somehow attach a tom stand haha , but as I said , I may keep the toms the same as they are now , and in the future buy another drum set with smaller tom and MAYBE a 20” bass drum , my toms are kind of big , my smallest tom is 12”
Alrighty!! yeah - you can definitely use some cymbal stands. You might even be able to find a mount for toms that sits on the cymbal stand rod. I remember a while back, I took out the "tubes" of the cymbal stand so it was only legs, and placed the tom mount inside of there. Back then it was one of the pearl mounts, so it had that long "tube", fit perfectly, hehe. With 12" and 13" racks, I can definitely see how they could cause trouble! I'm sure many brands sell shallower drums, but I know Tama's got their hyperdrive kit. Pretty cool! Hope whatever you do works out in the end!
Maximiliam Andersson Smart move what you did with that tube , and yeah Tama sells some and another brand I found called Mapex , they seem nice too! , and I have a Powerdrums drum set , not really a fan of it now JAJA , but at the time I bought it just seem so perfect because it was cheap and it came with a 13” hi hat and a 16” crash , which even though they were these no brand , cheap cymbals , I like how the sound jaja , but anyways , when I get some money , I may buy a Mapex drum set
It might be that the record label have blocked this song on mobile devices. Sorry! I have no say in this matter, unfortunately! Try check it out on another device, if you get the chance to :)
Dude the mix is definitely sweet. And yeah the tempo is quite hard to keep up but you nailed it man. Great job. Have a look at my channel if you have the time. New sub for you bro!
@@maxadrums actually man I came here cause I’m learning drums and you looked pretty high level so I thought maybe I could learn something from you, but you’re clearly just a snarky douche so see ya later.
I apologize for my response as you seem to actually want to learn, but yeah, just quite fed up with the foot cam fetish in general and the "no view from me" sounded trolly. Sorry about that! I'm with many fellow educators on the belief that people focus too much on the foot and thinking there's magical stuff to the technique. Sure - if you're playing at insane speeds, you may need to choose a technique that's a bit more "unique", but I'm not doing so in any of these videos. Your foot will figure things out. Keep playing, and in general your foot will figure out how to do what's necessary. If you want to develop your foot technique or bass drum playing in general, it's better to look up specific exercises or videos demonstrating such, than to look at random covers. And if you want a foot cam because you're struggling to hear the bass drum and understand when it's playing, you can usually see the leg moving, and you can develop your ability to listen and analyze. It's a pretty distinct sound, and the ability to learn by ear, in addition to other ways, is very beneficial! That being said, future videos might at some point include a foot cam, and during live streams I have it set up so that people can activate it for a shorter amount of time, taking away the focus from it; but making it so that people can have a peek for a duration of time if they're curious. Timeless song. Great drumming. If Chris still lived, he would've turned 60 today as i'm writing this.

Good shit man, any tips for mixing and getting a more live sound outta your snare?
A combination of EQing and compression! Avoid getting it way too pingy, let it breathe, let the overheads handle a lot of it and fill in with close mic for body. I also feel like a mic on the snare side helps making it more of a snare.
RRRRRRockkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!
