Shanks doesn't have a black blade because nobody is stupid enough to make him haki up.
Except the Yonkos & Mihawk. Best believe Shanks put Haki in his blade when he fought against Mihawks black blade.

17:50 Matt you forget one other thing. Zoro cut down Monet with Shusui but she was fine cause he didn't pump haki into it himself. So I guess the black blades have some of the bonuses from Haki but not all like hurting devil fruit users.

Well, im fairly certain that to hurt a logia, you need active haki. Black blades are passive haki.
You have a good point. I’d assume black blades are more sturdy than normal ones but you still have to activate Armament to cut logia fruit users.
I don't think Zoro actually cut her, wasn't it just fear that made her split?
How about the connection between zoro's swords and the shinsengumi? The shinsengumi was a police force in Japan during the 1860s. It's kinda of a staple of japanese culture and there's lots of movies and things about it.
Two of Zoro's Swords(Wado-Ichimonji and Kitetsu) are based on swords of two main members of the Shinsengumi (Okita Souji's Kiku-Ichimonji and Kondo Isami's Kotetsu).
This leaves only one other main member (Hijikata Toshizo) but Shusui IS NOT based on Hijikata's sword. (Called Izumi-no-Kami Kanesada).
So, if Zoro is going to end the story with Wado-Ichimonji and eventually make his way to the Shodai Kotetsu, it wouldn't be too far off to expect the trio of swords to be complete.

What about Mone, the harpy girl. Zoro cut her with shusui. definetely cut her. I think the blades just turn black but don't have the effects of haki. Other wise he would've killed her.

Zoro is shusis master therefore he controls what's to happen remember the cursed sword that just cut whenever and whoever it felt like Zoro learned to tame it could be that zoros will power is greater than the shusuis
It was never said that the blade has the effect of haki. If anything, Zoro has only said that there is a weight to the blade that he's never felt in another sword. Plus, one assumes its a really durable sword.
My guess - Ryuma blackened his sword by bathing it in dragons blood.

It is maybe like Nen in HxH. It becomes more powerful when a Nen user dies with strong emotions left (it was said for Kurapika's and shown for Pitou's).

The buggy's thing also works with Monet, when Zoro cut through her (without haki) using shusui.
My theory is that when the sword turns permanently black It becames more powerfull and unbreakeable, but not with eternal haki.

Wait wait wait, guys there’s still one problem I have with this theory. When Zoro fought monet, he used shusui to cut her and she didn’t die. This was of course because Zoro didn’t use Haki but he still used a black blade. Maybe a sword that’s endowed with a lot of haki and turns black and becomes a lot tougher, but it doesn’t have the effects of haki. This could be the reason why when mihawk cut buggy it didn’t do anything, because mihawk didn’t use haki. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think that all black blades have the effects of haki, I just think they become tougher because of it being endowed with haki.

I got an idea and before anyone tears into me i just gotta mention I am a big one piece fan but im not a crazy theorist so if this has a flaw dont go too ham on me.
Haki is basically the manifestation of Willpower right. And with certain way Zoro has referred to his swords it seems like the swords themselves are.....for lack of a better term; alive. "You problem child you better start listening to what I say" "Not listening to my commands are you?" Something along the lines of that. So what if a blade becomes a black blade not only after armament haki has been poured into it but that armament haki, that will gets poured over it in time when the swordsmen and his blade share their will, like equals or in perfect sync with one another. That would allow zoro not to have to need THAT much time to get a black blade. And also this explains Shanks(kind of, if what im a bout to theorize about him is correct).
Cause we dont really know how shanks fights. I mean yes we know he fights with a sword. But what if he isnt like a TRUE swordsmen like Mihawk or Zoro and what if he himself knowing that he isnt like that is the reason he never was the greatest swordsmen in the world. What if he just views his blade as a weapon, therefore him and his blade have never shared a perfectly linked will. Where as with zoro we have seen him viewing his blades in a similar way as companions, going as far as to give them a proper burial with a prayer to pay respects. And we can assume even Mihawk views his blade like that.

It's interesting how haki parallels devil fruits. We learned a while back that weapons could combine with devil fruits, now we learn weapon can be combined with haki.
Its pretty much the same. Devilfruit = Soul of a devil that resides in you and eventually merches with You

Based on the power systems in One Piece it's the only logical option unless oda comes up with something new.
A weapon should ideally be an extension of the users body. Something that they can use as easily as we can use out fingers (holds fingers in front of face and wiggles them). Therefore it makes sense that Devil fruits which alter the users body can be utilized to use weapons in unique ways. Haki which is formed of the users willpower can be used as armor around ones body and therefore can be transferred to weapons.
I actually hope zoro doesn't get shusui back

this and that are different cases.......we're not talking about creating a sword but about making it stonger throu experience and battles....this is basically a sword that went into a higher level of strength thanks to it's origina user strength.
Buggy clearly used Observation Haki like Katakuri to move / separate his body before he was cut.

In my opinion it makes sense that Yoru did not hurt Buggy without Mihawk activating armameNt haki. Think this way, Zoros Shusui is also a black blade and does not have armament haki on it all the time, meaning that all blades can become black but that may only change the resistance and looks of it. I think thats makes a lot more sense than the buggy spitting theory you pointed out. Anyway, great video as usual, keep up the good work.

@Desert Winds Normally I wouldn't comment on the brokenness of antagonists due to my suspension of disbelief and the fact that I have seen crazier things, but I will say that this antagonist was absolutely insane.
@Desert Winds I have no problem with long responses, I often give them and hope that you don't mind. Aizen was indeed quite dangerous with his abilities, but it seems to me that his meticulous planning and careful nature were the true power that he had. An intelligent and careful planner can use his powers in more effective ways then someone who is not intelligent. I have seen broken powers fail because the person who uses it is incompetent before and unfortunately neither Aizen not Juhabach seem to lack intelligence. I believe that the phrase for their intelligence and its use is "dangerously genre-savvy". When Aizen stopped planning and relying on only his power he became carless and his overconfidence led to his downfall. I cannot say of Aizen had a more broken Bankai or if what we thought was his Shikai was really his Bankai. Only the author can answer that. I probably need to read what Shinji's Bankai can do as well. I know his Shikai can create an inverted world in which ones sense of sight is distorted. A less effective version of Aizen's sword there. The Yammy battle kind of threw things around for me, but I suppose I am fine with it. Somehow I have a strong suspension of disbelief and the ability to rationalize nearly everything even if it doesn't make sense to me so I am fine with it. I also managed to be fine with Juhabach and his elites as well as their battles. I would have liked to see the final results of some of them, but we don't get everything that we want in life. If we did then the author would not have needed to rush through what could have been a more thoroughly explored final arc. I get the feeling that it could have been extended in a number of different ways that would have been fun to explore. Not to mention it would have allowed some characters to face their demons, grow stronger, and answer some questions about the nature of some of their powers. Just my personal gripes, pay them no mind.
@Desert Winds I will likely respond to this in multiple parts and multiple comments. There is much I wish to say.
@Desert Winds Part One, this will be long but I have responded to long comments and given them before. You should see the Supreme King of Imagination when he made comments. Aizen did have high states especially when he merged with the Hogyoku. Then he became much stronger, but he still admitted that head captain Yamamoto was stronger then he was which is why he created a special Arrancar to counter him. It does seem as if some powers and things were wasted or not used to their full potential. I suppose that is often a casualty of a manga with a lot of character that we want to see especially when things are done in a hurry. As you mentioned a tool or weapon usually doesn't think on its own although Bleach is an exception to that rule. It actually reminds me of how devil fruits are used in this anime, they are reliant to a degree on the creativity of the user. How many people would make a giraffe deadly, or soap a dangerous weapon. It might seem silly, but canon or not this anime has many abilities that seem to require creative thinking. There are some like Law's fruit which seem to require prior prerequisites or knowledge, but these appear to be the exceptions rather than the rules. I discovered TV Tropes by accident like fanfiction and it seems that it has been well worth the experience. It is one of those sites that I read when I feel like exploring certain aspects of stories or getting another viewpoint. Determinator, Chekov's gun, and other terms for which I knew there existed a term, but I didn't know what have been revealed to me this way. I have even started reading a manga that I discovered using this site. At any rate, Aizen became overconfident and arrogant in his power due to being close to his goal. This is easiest was in imagination or reality to fail, to assume you have won once you get close. I recently finished a game in which the antagonist was guilty of this, although in his defense he did achieve his goal and he did not expect what the protagonists did. What happened to turn the tides seemed to take even them by surprise. Gin killing Aizen would have been quite the twist, but I don't think that the soul society would have allowed him to live anyway. The soul reapers are not the most forgiving lot it seems. I suppose it was a good way to show the power of the Hogyoku and why Aizen wanted it, but it is a shame that this chance amounted to nothing. I did like that Aizen ended up losing both his calm and the battle against Ichigo though. A human and the one whom he assumed he had complete control of. He forgot that hollows and Shinigami alike are humans. I should check to see that site when I have time. For now this is the end of part one. Continued in part two.
@Desert Winds Part Two, As for my suspension of disbelief it is part of what allows me to enjoy things where others have difficulty. I try to analyze things, but not let it spoil the experience. I try to make prediction, but not to assume that the author will fulfill my expectations unless it suits him. Where others use terms such as plot armor and other unflattering terms even when they are not applicable I find other explanations. I can accept chance, coincidence, authors favor, authors, mistake, authors choice, and others rather than these terms. I also distain the use of the terms fate and destiny to determine success and failure. I think that while there are things that are beyond ones control, ultimately that individual can choose what to make of their lives. This allows me to see a characters successes not as a result of them being the main character, but as a result of their efforts. Not a result of their bloodline or fate, but as a consequence of their work and conviction. I am glad to find someone other than my friends who likes all of the Big three. I can list on the fingers of one hand how many people outside of me and my friends who likes all of them. Outside of you, only a fanfiction writer who created a series called the five worlds series seems to fit into that category. I also like others such as Berserk, Fairy Tail, Claymore, and many others. Growing up, Dragon Ball Z, Yugioh, Yu Yu Hakusho, and others were what I watched in addition to Naruto and One Piece. Bleach was added later, but is no less interesting then the other two to me. One Piece was introduced to me with 4 Kids and looking back while it had funny puns, it was of far inferior quality. Now that the other two along with many of the manga I regularly read being done, it seems that One Piece is all I have to keep reading. I hope to find another set of series soon. Rereading old finished series both new and old is quite good, but it is not the same. Naruto is the one that impacted me the most. He helped me at a time when I needed him. My friend James Vach went through a similar experience. He hated the world, was a mixture of Gaara and Sasuke, and wanted all humans dead regardless of distinction. I was of a similar mindset, but Naruto gradually helped us to fight our inner demons. We have not purged them completely, but they have grown weaker and at least part of that is thanks to him. When the time came for the series to end, it was sad to see it go but we were happy to see him achieve his dream. I will continue this in part three.

I'm going to say Rayleigh was the greatest swordsman before Shanks or Mihawk, and when Rayleigh retired Shanks inherited the title, but very possible that Shanks is either not really seen as a swordsman and that's why Mihawk has title because even though Shanks is stronger maybe Mihawk is the better swordsman, or after Shanks gave up his arm he relinquished the title and with Mihawk being the second best he got the title.
If Rayleigh was the previous holder then I’m sure it would’ve been said by now. Second you don’t inherit the title you earn it. I’m sure Mihawk would not accept the title or claim it if he didn’t beat Shanks in a fight fair and square. Y is everyone so fixated on Shanks or Rayleigh being the previous title holder?

If you think of a blade like a zanpakuto where the user eventually fuses or becomes one with it, that’s how the black blades form. Infusing your haki into your sword will eventually make it follow your will to become stronger than anyone and anything else. That heaviness Shusui had? That was Ryuma’s will into his sword, which makes it dish out devastating damage.
Buggy has future sight level observation and was able to separate himself before getting cut by yoru. Buggy is yonko commander level confirmed.
tommyvantran oda has said buggy has equal potential as shanks, buggy is probably admiral tier, but he’s a gag character so we’ve haven’t seen his full potential yet

It amazing how Oda can take characters I HATED and somehow make me love them.
I think I know how the black blades work: and no, they are not constantly using haki. The black blade is just a blade that has retained the hardness of a haki-d up blade, not the actual abilities of haki. So when a black blade cuts something, it cuts with the same strength of a non-black blade that has been haki-d up. This doesn’t mean that Yoru or Shusui in base form could cut a logia. They just have the durability of a blade that has been haki-d up. This solves buggy’s immunity to yoru and still lets black swords be related to armament haki.
Thanks, i was suggesting the very same thing in the last vid, thought i was the only one^^. Especially since the technique that turn things black is called "hardening" in japanese. So it might just be that they retain the hardness that comes from using haki that way, not constantly have willpower in them.

14:00 It wouldn't be weird, given what the shop owner told Zoro about the Kitetsu swords, Sandai spent a lot of time sheathed and owner-free, and that nobody wielded it for more than a few months before the curse took their lives. The possible work around is the amount of armament Zoro could eventually be able to wield himself. Oda claimed long ago that Luffy will be specialised in Conqueror's Haki, Snaji in Observation and Zoro in Armament. Luffy has had a 2 years course on Haki, but given what Oda sais it wouldn't be unexpected for Sanji to surpass Luffy's observation, and for Zoro to surpass Luffy's armament. When we get to that point, maybe Zoro can add so much haki to his swords the process speeds up. All of this, of course, based on the unproven premise that pouring haki into your swords can turn them permanent black.

What about the idea of getting black blades froged by armament haki
I do definitely like the idea of it taking a long time but the progress towards being made into a black blade can be passed down through various owners. That would help the idea that Zoro will be able to make Enma into a black blade during the story, thanks to all the haki that Oden put into it during his ownership of Enma. So now with Zoro pumping so much haki into it due to it being so hungry for haki, and also a plus that couldn't hurt is Zoro exhibiting Conqueror's lately, I think there's a good chance Enma could become a black blade before the end of the story.

so if Haki is will power, and Shunsui became a black blade after Ryuma constantly uses his Haki on it, then essentially the blade now contains Ryuma's will power. so if Shunsui is a zanpakuto, Ryuma would be it's spririt form. and if Zoro go bankai, he'd probably looks kinda like Ryuma :))
Mabey griffon is the equivilent of the little knife mihawk has and he has a serious sword he can pull out

Also keep in mind that WB bisento isn’t a black blade neither and he was the strongest man in the world. I think We need to see how much stronger a black blade really is before questioning other top tier weapons.

8:55 Don't think so. If swords could get promoted to the next grade, it wouldn't be possible to track the amount of graded swords, and Tashigi's brain would explode. I believe the rank is granted by its craftmanship alone
I think Wado Ichimonji is a permanently haki infused sword too but it is infused with the invisible armament we saw at pre timeskip. That explains how Zoro cut Daz Bones.
Invisible haki was just cuz we couldn’t see it cuz we didn’t know about it pre time skip, I think we’d be able to see the haki by now

for what it's worth, my theory, about the buggy vs hawkeye thing, is that giving buggy's cowardness, his time with his fruit and experience clashing with people way over his league (like shanks and probably other crew members of the oro jackson), he has subconsciously trained himself to use his devil fruit to avoid cuts, similar to how logia user train them self to instinctively change from solid to elemental, of coursehe doesn't understand that himself

In this chapter we were reintroduced not only to the concept of “evolving” blades and a “different” form of armament. I don’t think this is just a coincidence that they’re mentioned in the same chapter.
Luffy is seen remembering Rayleighs “more gentle” haki, which needed no black coating and seemed to repel attacks with more grace and less force. It appears this is either an advanced level or a superior variety of armament haki, for pros only.
My theory is that shanks’ blade may be coated in this type of haki instead of the type we’ve seen mostly throughout the manga. It would make sense, since this blade can do combat with incredible weapons like white beards bisento and (presumably) Yorue, the strongest blade in the world. I imagine weapons such as these could even break a sword coated in normal armament, but with shanks’ blade coated in Next Level Armament it would we able to measure up.
This would also make sense because this haki seems to be incredibly rare, performed only by Rayleigh in the series so far. BUT, shanks has been on the same crew as Rayleigh for quite some time, and at a certain point must have been the “star pupil” of the Roger Crew, so would it not make sense for him to spend tons of time under the direct tutelage of Rayleigh, and even Roger himself? If anyone else were to know this advanced haki, it would be Shanks.
Plus, think about it, is Rayleigh’s blade black?

What if, the secret to the black blade is essentially a ghost or a fragment of one. Hakki is spirit energy, and ghosts are spirits.

I have a little theory that I just thought of (not sure if anyone else thought of this or not) but what if it is not so much about the time or amount of haki; rather, it is the relationship?
It is kind of hard to explain at the moment, but essentially a sword can become a black sword (just as you mentioned that any sword can become a black sword) through the bond between the master and the blade? Which if that is the case then it would make sense how Zoro could make the Wado Ichimonji and Sandai Kitetsu into black blades. He is obviously close to the Wado, and as for the Kitetsu, the sword choose him (how every master that wielded the Kitetsu died before him because it has rejected them). Again, I am just spitballing ideas and haven't done much research yet.
This theory could make sense as to why not just anyone who uses the same sword for decades and not make it into a black blade. Because any samurai-weeaboo can swing a sword for 100 years, but if they do not take the time to honor and bond with the blade in their hand, then it is just a chunk of metal. Haki is basically will power/the life force of an individual. Everyone's haki is of their own as it is part of them: it grows and develops with the person using it.
Now of course there is the issue with Shanks. Now I really hate to say this, but I do not think Shanks has put too much thought into his sword. After all, he is not samurai or has always been known to be the kind of guy who is, "one with the blade." Now this does not mean he thinks too lightly of his sword either. It is just that he does not have a sword fetish like Zoro or the other samurai. Same thing can be said about White Beard. I am sure that he has fought countless battles with his Bisento. But that does not mean has has bonded with his weapon all too much (In a nutshell: Both Shanks and Whitebeard are crazy crap strong as it is and can handle themselves without the weapons).
Overall, if one dedicates their life to the way of the blade to the point with the sword they use becomes one with their them, then the blade can then become a black blade. So as I said in the first part, "it is not so much about time..." it will obviously take some time and commitment. We do not know when Ryuma got his black blade. It could've happened in a couple years to at least a decade at most. But again, we do not simply know that lol.
It a nutshellish way, take it like this. A person (both in One Piece and in our world) has a relationship with literally everything we come into contact with. Whether it be another person, a car, a ship, a coin, or even a toenail clipper. We can either not care, dislike, hate, like or love these things. But we all have that one item or person in our lives where if anyone saw it, they would think of you. For me whenever I look at Shusui, I do not think of Zoro. I think of its original master Ryuma. Basically, if one commits to their relationship with their sword, and fully devotes their life to it, then both the master and the sword become one. The legend of the master will never die as it has stained the sword and will continue to live on.
But again...this is just a crap theory they may not even be true lol.

In this ark I think both zoro and luffy will work on armament Haki while Sanji and mostly luffy worked on observation haki in wci
Sanji did not do any type of observation training in WCI. Maybe he might do some before the final battle and some armament training during the final battle🤷🏾♂️
I think Luffy is already working on armament and both Zoro and Sanji could use some training in regards to both of them. Who is to say that they will not face opponents like Katakuri who can see into the future as well.

Well there has been stuff in past samurai style old movies of like "Oh his blade was blackened by the blood of his enemies." And Mehawke could have meant 'any sword can become a blade sword because you kill A LOT of people.' but i like the less dark haki idea better.

Then how else does he fight? Since his time in Roger’s crew he was using swords, and not once has he done any action without it. Not bashing your opinion just curious for an answer?

3) Shanks doesn't have it cos it's shanks - doesn't need to haki his sword. I've always thought of shanks' sword as a secondary weapon and that he just uses haki + hand-to-hand combat

This Video has given me thoughts on Yoru's backstory
Originally made and owned by a Swordsman known far and wide hundreds of years ago. Yoru became coveted by rivals and friends alike and after the owners death fought over it relentlessly. Even when the bloodshed for the Yoru by the initial seekers died out. The precedent had been set. the owner of Yoru would always have rivals coming after him/her for the sword.
Such was the quality of Yoru and the skill of many of its owners that it's owner would now now bear the title World's Strongest Swordsman. Yoru itself representing the mantle of this title
Only thing I can think of for Shanks is he constantly uses Rayleigh's "Suit of Armor" armament which is stronger but doesn't go directly through the blade, so ironically him using a stronger variant keeps it from becoming black, when you reach that level of armament it may be even counterproductive to turn the blade black, depends on what we learn about that level of armament going forward
So what I'm getting out of this discussion is that Buggy's observation haki is so advanced that 's on par with Katikuri, and Shanks is such a natural bad ass that he doesn't even need to practice with his sword to become the greatest swordsman in the world. I'm with you Tekking! I like this one!

There might be a quite simple but hilarious reason why Shanks doesnt have a black blade: you need both of your arms to channel enough Haki into the sword to permanently alter it 😂😂
Also I think when buggy's power was introduced it was stated that his power works automatically when he's getting cut, unlike logia who have to will themselves to let attacks pass through them.

Consider this: When Shanks and Whitebeard clashed, they weren't necessarily using Armament in their blades, they were using Conqueror's instead. So perhaps that could be why Griffin isn't black.

Black blades, and cursed blades. I thought it was a translation issue describing the same thing, but now we're learning that they're separate things.
I imagine Buggy is just like what Katakuri and Crocodile do with their fruits. He's trained his body and devil fruit where the effect is subconscious and instantaneous. He just pops himself apart before the attack hits, just like how logia users can remove the part of their body about to be hit with a haki infused it. We've seen other characters do this before and while Buggy may not be a paragon of strength he has survived with his devil fruit for a deadass long time. Like. decades. and he hasn't been idle all that time so i think it's safe to say that is in fact how his ability works as long as he's not distracted to the point where his subconscious can't react to an attack.
I think that it would be really harmonic if Zoro gave up Shusui to show his respect for the Wano denizens, then he picks up the Nidai Kitetsu, the Sandai Kitetsu, and the Black & White Wado Ichimonji. That just seems really awesome and possibly the best way to wrap up the issue between him and the Samurais of Wano.
The thing you're missing out on is passion and dedication to the art of swordsmanship. Ryuma last chapter (at least by Jaimini's translation) was considered the Sword God of Wano for his dedication to the blade. Mihawk we've also seen dedicate his life to being a swordsman, to the point he is training his successor. Zoro is on this same path, since his dream is to become the best. Shanks on the other hand doesn't seem to really care about swordsmanship. He might be skilled at it, but from everything we've seen of him, it's not his priority.
Since haki is basically giving your soul physical form (armament), sensing the souls of others (observation) or imposing your will on others (conqueror's) I think it makes perfect sense that to permanently imbue something with Armament you have to really think of it as a part of yourself, and to genuinely care about it. I'm sure the quality of your armament plays a part too, but I think it's similar to what we saw way back with Mr 1. Back then Zoro had to learn how to cut nothing before his blade could cut anything, and making a black blade is the same thing. There's a lesson and a mindset you have to obtain, before you can take that next step as a swordsman and forge a black blade.
I personally think that the black swords are created through a "state" that a master swordsman reaches. The state would be when the wielder becomes one with the sword as a result of all his experience using it. If I remember correctly Mihawk stated when he first met Zoro that any sword can become a black sword depending on the one who wields it.
This encompasses everything, since a swordsman would not be able to attain this state if he does not have enough experience and training through constant battles.
Tekking, Shanks is so powerful that he’s rarely if ever had a challenging enough fight to have his haki embedded in his sword. He may never be able to create his own black blade unless it is acquired by the Ichigo meditation thingy you said.
What if there certain steps you have to take to create a black blade🤔. If so I'm guessing learning armament haki and killing a dragon might be two of the prerequisites.

When you die your hair and nails dont break down and in some cases still grows. They are essentially made of the same components as bone. So think of them as part of the skeletal system. Thats why even ancient corpses still have hair
maybe it's the wielder's spirit infused in the blade that turns it black. It also changes the prowess to wield it, which would make it lighter for the original owner but heavier for other people. That's why Shuusui feels heavier in Zoro's hand than his other swords. Maybe he gives it back to Wano because he can't unleash the whole potential of the blade's power and realizes that he has to create his own black blade to become the strongest swordsman
This ties to the invisible armament theory. When Reylight kicked Kizaru in his laser leg his leg wasn't black, nor were his hands when he repelled the elephant. Luffy is pondering that right now. It could be possible that there's another type of armament that doesn't have the black coat. It might be better, or it might be just different with it's own strengths and weaknesses. It might have something to do with having conqueror's. It could be possible that Shanks uses that invisible armament which is why Gryphon isn't black.
about the hair, it is supposed to keep its colour after death. A good example might be animal hair used in fur clothes. These tend to keep colour for a long time, though im uncertain if they'd keep their colour for 400 years or if you leave them in the sun
Buggy's fruit is also a paramecia, not a logia, and Doflamingos strings weren't cut by haki infused swords even though they weren't said to have been haki infused.

I think once it becomes a permeated black blade it doesnt mean it has all the qualities of a sword being poured armament from its user like when you hit a logia devil fruit user with haki and you can do damage. I think once it becomes a black blade it just basically nearly impossible to destroy destroy making it more durable not necessarily meaning you can do damage to logia or devil fruit users automatically just making it more heavier and tougher than before. Cause remember even with it being a black sword Zoro is still able to use his armament to make the entire sword black not just the blade itself like how he did against Pika.

Mihawk said any sword can become a black blade. But he didn't specify to which extent a black blade can be. Of course a blade can be black with haki but maybe it's because of the materials that were used to make the grade level swords to allow it to permanently become a black blade. Grade level swords are are considered better swords due to their material...etc and not because someone trained it to become a grade sword.

While we’re on the topic of armament haki, I believe that luffy already has some form of advanced armament. If you remember, on dressrossa when luffy was fighting doflamingo in gear 4th his body was outlined in red. There is the scene where luffy was just using normal punches against doflamingo still in gear 4th and when doflamingo Coated his hands in haki he hit luffy and his hand was injured. This is similar to when luffy went to hit katakuri and his hands were damaged. It’s true that there are different colors of haki but this leads me to think that there are other subsets or other colors of each type of haki.
What if the process of creating a black blade is more of a specialization then universal upgrade. We have been told that Shusui is heavier then it otherwise would appear. A black blade may need a personality or characteristic imbued into it for it to be created.
