It’s so difficult to do. I’ve been playing and singing this song for years, I know the riff off by heart and can play it with eyes closed. Try playing it at the same time as singing along? Impossible! So much respect
Arctic monkeys is nothing without helders... he is the heart of the band. that drummer makes ALL the difference. alex knows that very well because he takes helders everywhere he goes(performances/recording wise).. and yep, i do know they are like best friends(that counts too lol)
The band's a genius, because the song has a storyline that exists only in Alex's head, thats how you know no one else can write the same stuff. Mind blowing performance!
Their performance, Alex's badass moves, the psychedelic keyboard added to the song & the way the director made it looked like it was filmed in the 80s, Just magnificent
From all the characters he has had, I think this one I like the most. That gesture at the beginning like "Oh, yeah! I remember this", and then delivering the song in such a way that you taste that distant memory feeling. Amazing. And the way they made the song sound. Amazing all around.
I don't know what others saying about the "persona" or "style", they've grown up and they age like a fine wine, his voice is getting better and the way he sings all the old songs is just "GOLD", many would prefer the little Alex for the first album and that's understandable but after Humbug his voice became what you can hear in this song as well. You can say his voice "Smashed through the glass ceiling and it is looking better than ever" :D
I feel like this persona is just a way to push the anxiety to the back of his mind, just a coping mechanism. So many people think it's deeper than it is and that he's a knob, but I believe he's a simple man with high intellect - that can sometimes be a curse.
@@Duaality. Yeah, I can't agree more. He's always been like that but with slight changes. It's the perfect way hiding anxiety. After all, he seems like he has a "persona" but I don't think he has. That's how humorous and intellectual people appear to others.
The way he chases the microphone on the last word to make sure that we can ALL hear every bit of vibrato he puts into it... Also, I feel like every couple years he adds a few more notes to the solo hahaha
i've found that to pull off even close to his singing performance, you have to be into it - you can be a technically great singer and miss that little nuance you pointed out - every note that sustains two measures there is an opportunity to slide it and play around with it but nail it - and that's what alex appears to be born for - when he was young and just reshaping it and twisting it into beautiful knots as he ages. The best active rockstar alive for sure.
i was at this taping in the front and alex looked at me for a second and i swear my entire face went white and started sweating up a storm. what else do you when one of your musical heroes looks at you!!!
This isn't from Alex. But Shavo Odajian from System of a Down said he looks people in the eye during gigs because they know how much of a connection that creates and what effects that may have to a person, he said he experienced it when he was seeing his favourite band and he started doing it. It's a nice gesture and really builds a connection
Ok let's not kid ourselves this is extremely different from the studio version, to the inclusion of new instruments and Alex's lower voice and more "American" accent. They're both fantastic, but come on
What do you mean we don't celebrate them? I've seen Bowie get more popular ever since he died. Blackstar got a lot of people my age into Bowie, and he died when I was 17
@@patriciofernandez2711 you misunderstood. I mean we don’t celebrate talent, true talent like we used to. Rock stars aren’t cultural icons like they used to be. And no Bowie isn’t more popular than he was when he was alive that’s a ridiculous statement
@@davidtabor2465 Oh I see what you mean. Yeah, rock music isn't in the mainstream anymore, hasn't been for a couple years, but why does it have to be? I mean a "rockstar" is no different than a rapper or a popstar, that title says nothing about the quality of their output. Rock lost its appeal to the general public the same way jazz did, but jazz kept on evolving and while it didn't go back to being the norm it retained its loyal niche audience.
