Surfed it on the weekend (advanced, riding the left) and thought it was a heap of fun, definitely worth the money for the experience.
Hot tip would to look for sessions that are underbooked. We had 14 surfers in the water, so pretty much everyone was getting a wave each set.
I also wouldn’t be rushing back when it’s onshore (anything from the south or west). A strong NE would be great as it would make it properly hollow.
Unreal video mate. Good to see someone who isn’t pro but can surf super solid. That 12 minute mark looks so fun. Good idea with the air setting
Hey good video, Im probably to tight to pay to surf but its nice to see an honest review. I like the bit about the stoke at the end of surfing straddle and the comparison, for seasoned surfers this was a great summary that the technical aspects would otherwise miss. Nice vid, keep up the good work.

Hey, I’ve just discovered your channel by accident and it’s been so refreshing to see someone, especially an Aussie, take the time to slow down the mechanics of the wave and what you’re looking at so you can progress - and all without an ego - thanks for that!
I also agree with your take on the Urbnsurf experience. I went for the first time a few weeks ago in the intermediate right section. You’re right, unless you can consistently take off most of the time, you will be a liability to others. I felt like a burden to others coz of you don’t make it, you’re in the way for the next person and that’s shit if half the crowd are noobs like you.
I heard urbnsurf are looking to change the wave to add an int. Longboard section - which would be a great in between step.

They should implement everyone a trial wave on entry and that determines the level group you need to be in and if you want beast mode should just have to sign a waver for Beast mode and have passed advanced grading upon arrival.
Nice idea but probably would mean intermediate sessions would be overbooked (but advanced would be freed up).
Give it 6 months, most people will figure themselves out and it'll be better.
Maybe after the session they provide a limitation on what sessions you can re-book until you've shown a certain skill level though.

@@khaimcilwaine2349 we had a great time and got some sick rides. Mixed it up a little with the expert and advanced modes. Some waves I could do some combo moves and some I couldn’t make it out. Very nice challenge :)
Hey Kales, thanks for the excellent video. Watched it before my recent debut on the intermediate left on a Monday evening. Helped heaps. Old mate & I both in our late 50’s had a blast. It was a full group of 18 & fortunately most were competent. On my 7 6 mal 51L & didn’t miss a wave. There is sweet spot on take off & that’s all I say. I will definitely be a repeat customer being local. Incredible engineering & a great vibe. Regards Phil

That looks like awesome fun! I'm from Victoria, 2 hours from Melbourne and fingers crossed COVID restrictions ease in the summer so I can go there and check it out! I'm glad it's beginner-friendly because I am a total newbie and it would be a nice somewhat controlled environment to get used to the feeling of surfing.
A really comprehensive review of my new local break. Yeew! They need to have a few more settings to allow people to progress from beginner to Intermediate. The mixed abilities in the lineup can be frustrating for all. Enjoying your work.

hey mate i think this is without a doubt the best review ive seen of any wave pool! im guessing this and bristol have identical settings and tech, they just wont release it to us here yet!! the advanced setting is better than anything ive seen from our one so far. great work mate.

Looks amazing.. Only thing i noticed after you mentioned it of course, is like when you take off you arn't getting that sudden burst of speed coming down the face and cutting hard, its more like you get your acceleration a little after this 😊
I have surfed Beast mode 2 and it's epic, a roaring thick slab, I hope they can sort out any liability issues and allow it to be accessed and yes there were people out there who should not have been there. The only way forward might be to assess those who want to surf it on the intermediate and advanced modes first and then clear them to surf the Beast modes with helmets the first time and then after that their on their own with a signed waver.
Come to think of it, maybe they could just say "no advanced mode first booking, then only if the skills there"

In the ads from the company with video and editing tricks everything seemed bigger and wider. Thanks for the info. I realized that the density of the water is very low which is very harmful. AU$10 per small short wave, OUCH only for wealthy ones. I want to see this business during the winter 10 degrees for 8 months plus strong wind, I believe they will close and open on the next summer.
Rod - I think this place will go bust in two winters. It’s just a novelty.
Time will tell - the waves aren’t edited to look bigger on their clips - they’re just bigger because all of them were filmed during private sessions where they can amp up the swell

It's rad but I don't understand why they faced it north east? I would've thought they'd face it more south westerly considering we aaalways have a S, SW wind.. We wanna go to the wave pool when its onshore at the beach haha
I suppose lots of logistical elements to consider - if they had flipped it the carpark wouldn’t have been possible and the offices would be behind the wave. Plus, some of the guys told us that this was actually the prevailing wind
Might be better during winter winds when it's harder to get people to come to the pool anyways?

I live in Perth, and the Urban Surf pool here is seeking a new home after the original planned site fell through. We have a ski park out at Baldivis, and a cable wake park in the same spot and an Aqua Inflatable water park there as well, and you would think that a wave pool would fit right in there, but instead they chose a suburban area (Alfred Cove) where they would have had to evict a long established Lawn Bowls club!! WTF!!Yeah, the deal fell through!! Surprise, surprise!!

things float completely in the dead sea, cause theres so much salt...the ideal wave has a shitload of salt.
Hey Guys. Love the concept. As a board repairer I hate epoxy boards but in fresh water there is no other board to ride because they float better. I like that people can rent a board but what happen when they get a ding? do you guys do insurance or do they have to pay up for the repair?

Hey Kale, what volume board are you riding on your first session and, without getting too personal, how much do you weigh? Did you notice a big difference in buoyancy compared to ocean? Asking because you make the take off look super easy and I found it quite sketchy and rushed. Great vid!!

I ve heard that the pool is pretty hard on the boards though, easy to hit the bottom. After your first session, I could see you had the solarez resin on your hand. What is your experience? I reckon I ll try to fly without any boards and rent there, at least for my first trip
Nice! Yes I had a run in with someone who was sitting right on my wave haha.... I won’t mention who 🧐 if you can control your fall offs well you should be fine but certainly with the wall so close I saw some boards get carnaged. If you’re an intermediate, a high performance foam board would be a smart choice!
I banged up my board against the wall (was pretty weary after a couple of sessions and went over the falls) and saw a few others ding their boards too: you can hire a board certainly, and there is a decent selection but the charge for repairs starts at $50 or so (for a minor ding) and goes up pretty steeply..I fixed mine with a bit of Solarez

As more is learned about these pools they will possibly just keep getting better i hope. Maybe by the time we see one in NSW they will be 100% dialed.

Intermediate or advanced which was more rewarding? Do you recommend lower a rockered board for the intermediate setting or can you get away with moderate rockered boards?

Big fan of your channel and the tips you gratefully provide has personally helped my surfing.
Can you elaborate on how it's worth it? The beachies you surf shit on that wave IMO. I'm from the Gold Coast and even the slop I surf looks better then that for the most part. Not to mention the nature aspect.
Is it the novelty factor? Or are the waves better then they look? Or do you think the tech will get much better in the future, ala the surf ranch? Or do you think it will help with crowd dispersion?

Hey man!! Yeah for sure I feel ya. It’s the consistency and repetition that this place offers which provides such a platform for progression, particularly within the intermediate to advanced phase, that I think most of the benefits come from.
When it’s barreling as well, it’s just so easy and so much fun to be able to do it every wave. It’s like being guaranteed a little grinder at green mount

I thought the waves were garbage on the left when I tried it last week for the advanced. Advanced session waves were more intermediate and they finally turned it up for the last 10 minutes where I was lucky to get 1 wave when they turned it up. Personally a Waste of $79

Having travelled from WA to spend 4 days (3-4 sessions a day) here, I think this is a great overview. The board hire was great. You can't demo boards like that anywhere else. We were so cooked at the end of each day despite not doing much paddling. I think it's because you get so many good quality waves.

Ive seen two people hit the wall (not the bottom) and need stitches. They should have a whole hour of beast mode IMO instead of it just being the last 20 or 30 minutes.

Book in a few sessions throughout the day with plenty of rest time and get a cabana thing
I traveled from WA for 4 days here. Was epic. The board hire is a great option. Gives you a chance to try out gear you wouldn't usually use (push yourself a bit).
We were doing 3 or 4 sessions (usually 2 or 3 advanced) a day and were so cooked at the end of the day.
looks like a fun beachy with a few head dips. not much more.
I surf it a lot and it’s great! The big issue is flat out beginners wiping out on intermediate waves on the take off. They are not intermediate! They will fix that soon as it’s dangerous and wastes waves. The other thing is intermediate wave loses power mid way through - but then they crank it during the session and by the end each wave is amazing!!! You can pay surf chimp the onsite photo guys to film you as well which is great for coaching

This format of pool seems more natural than other pools. If they want the pool to feel more like the ocean why doesn't everyone bring a little bag of salt and dump it in the pool? Eventually it would have the floatability of the ocean.
I’ve heard that the salinity doesn’t really affect the buoyancy it’s more the power of the waves
not only is this 15 minutes from my place, it also proves that Melbourne has better waves and coffee than Sydney
