    0:22 “[I’m at St Andrews because] Oxford rejected me, end of story”
    Very relatable experience 😂

    I received an unconditional offer for English and Modern History for St. Andrews 2020 and still in the process of choosing between there and Edinburgh. I loved both unis so much when I visited so finding it so hard to choose between the two. Your videos have been incredibly informative in helping me choose my decision, keep posting :) x

      @@oliverholeekelund6309 Hi, I accepted St. Andrews and honestly it has been the best decision I have ever made. The only reason I was apprehensive about coming to St. Andrews was the small town and somewhat the risk of becoming ‘isolated’ - something which I have found to be far from the truth. You might not have your generic club that you will find in Edinburgh but you have pubs, bars and nice restaurants which are so lovely. In addition, you have the beach and day/night time bonfires - especially perfect during lockdown but even more so when things return to normal. Nothing beats St. Andrews really in terms of student life and academics. Would highly recommend!!

      @@rebeccamason3944 Thank you! Sounds amazing! Btw may I ask if you were well above the Academic acceptance requirements?😊 St. Andrews is the top 1 choice, really hoping for an offer.

      @@oliverholeekelund6309 no I wasn’t, I sat Scottish Highers and had the exact grades needed for my course. However, I know people who have had better grades than me and got rejected so for St. Andrews, grades don’t mean everything. Just make sure you have a really well written personal statement and you have a chance. The uni is highly competitive so to this day I still believe the only reason I got offered a place here was luck haha. Good luck with your application :)

    Hi! I was just wondering how difficult it is to get into St. Andrews. I keep getting different results online, and I think a lot of people have mixed it up with a university in the states which has the same name (results have been ranging between 8% to 50% acceptance rate). I'm also from the states so I don't know how well you can address my question (I understand testing and such is quite different). I've been on my toes about this lately because I haven't been able to get a straight answer. Please help! Thanks :)

      hi! i reckon as long as you have a few good extra-curriculars up your sleeve, a great personal statement, and high grades, you will be able to get in pretty easily. hope that helps! i dont know an exact percentage but perhaps if you google 'university of st andrews' as opposed to 'st andrews university' you would get some clearer results x kiki

      @@justkiki3091 I've got one really strong extracurricular at the least, which is mock trial (which I've been doing for a couple years and have gotten placed highly with my team in international competitions). But I'm not sure how I could draft up a good personal statement for going to St. Andrews because I'm likely going to go back to the states afterward to become a lawyer. My grades aren't too bad, but they're not perfect either. It's my dream to go there though, it just seems sooo perfect! Thanks for responding, I love your videos!

    As an USA, got tired of the students stating that they are Oxford rejects, when most didn’t apply to Oxford.

    Hey, I was just wondering what the halls were like and how the application process works for halls? xx

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  5 років тому

      hiya girl, we have a variety of different halls scattered across town (would love to talk about them in more detail at some point). the application process begins after you've got a confirmed place at st andrews, so once you've gotten your exam results (or just gotten full confirmation that you've been accepted) then the uni sends you a link to the application for halls. the application itself is quite simple: you pick what type of room you would like - either single ensuite, double ensuite (which is a shared room with a roomate), single shared bathrooms, or double shared bathrooms. unfortunately you don't get to pick which hall you get into, its a random allocation based on your preferences (that you list 1-4). for example, i wanted a single ensuite and ended up at Agnes Blackadder Hall last year and Tom requested a single shared bathroom so he was at St Salvador's Hall. let us know if you have any more questions and i hope this helps!

    This is all great, it sounds fun, yes. But it just makes wonder: how on earth is this uni ranked #3 below Oxford and Cambridge? It seems so hardly academically intense and prestigious and just a 'party university'. I'm not trying to dis it or anything, it's a genuine question I'd like someone to explain to me. How is this uni ranked so highly academically when I hear nothing about the academia, but rather 'student life'?

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  5 років тому +25

      proud to say we're 2nd now (after Cambridge) but that's not the issue here. the reason why we feel the need to talk about student life is because there are so many misconceptions about this university (in terms of how far away it is from a big city and whether one will have anything to do in a town so small) - the academics quite frankly speak for themselves, hence why i've never felt the need to emphasise the truly brilliant and award-winning lecturers and professors we have here. st andrews has excellent facilities as well both in terms of student learning with the many libraries (although we can't all be the Bodleian), and the lovely sports facilities (www.st-andrews.ac.uk/study/why/facilities/) among others. the fact that there is so much versatility here in terms of degree structure is something that you can easily read about (www.st-andrews.ac.uk/subjects/study-options/ug/flexible/) on the uni's website, which is why we didn't think it was necessary to talk about things that are already accessible to the masses via google. we're here to offer an insight into our experiences both as students and shed some light on our subjects as well. yes this is a 'fun' uni but a lot of people don't think so when they're applying (a shame really).
      also we have done some specifically academic-related videos - see our videos: academic life (ua-cam.com/video/Upn1s6R8gMg/v-deo.html), arts subjects (ua-cam.com/video/kb74ec1UsIc/v-deo.html), and science subjects (ua-cam.com/video/B4DGhcIcM6E/v-deo.html)
      hope this helped to answer any questions, let us know if you have any more.
      - kiki

    Is going out more expensive than other university locations?

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  5 років тому +1

      no i definitely wouldn't say so - not going to lie, from all my friends at uni's in birmingham, lancaster, nottingham, london, etc, i know for a fact st andrews is much cheaper. union is always free, 601 is £3 on a friday, the vic will be between £4-7 depending on what event is on there. the only quite big expense is balls, which undoubtedly is expensive anywhere you go. hope this helps!
