LSU had 3 wins the season before Maravich started playing for them. You could take any player in the history of college basketball and put them on a team full of terrible players coming off a 3 win season and they aren't winning a national championship. It was also much harder for a team to get into the tournament then as only conference champions were allowed. There were no at large bids. LSU was in the same conference as powerhouse Kentucky which was loaded with great players each season. The situation for Caitlin Clark is completely different. Iowa has won at least 19 games 17 seasons in a row and it is significantly easier to get into the tournament. As a player Clark is a much more efficient scorer than Maravich was. I don't consider Maravich the greatest scorer of all time, but it is factually correct to say he has the most points in the history of D1 men's basketball and easily the highest average per game. Iowa has already been to the national championship game. Maravich never even played in the NCAA tournament.

Yes, the tournament regions are unfair. The selection committee showed their bias by stacking the Albany 2 region with 5 or 6 teams that are legitimate final four material. All of the other regions have only 2 or 3 at the most. This makes for brackets that are not equally balanced. I believe that there are two reasons for this: 1) Bias on the part of committee members against and sometimes in favor of certain coaches and teams. 2) Hoping to get the highest TV ratings possible for early round games by forcing better teams to play against each other earlier than would normally be expected. Money, money, money.

And more to the point, Iowa can prove how good they are as a team as well. We only lost four games all year, and we beat each of those teams at least once as well, so I’m sure the Iowa ladies feel like they can beat anybody. Now is the time to prove it! 😆

I just don't agree that it is all that significantly unfair. First round they would have to beat a 'play-in team' ... how hard is it going to be to beat a borderline team that had to win a game just to get into the tournament? Second round, I hear folks stating "oh, look they may have to play against Princeton. That team has this really, really, really good guard!" Um, so? Isn't Catilyn Clark also a really, really, really good guard? If Iowa can't beat either the #8 or the #9 seed, whomever it would be, then they are not worthy of me even writing this post! Then they go on with "okay, but round three, they have Colorado and Kansas State". Fine, but it would be one of the two, not both! Those two would be playing a game against each other and the winner would advance to play Iowa. A Colorado vs Kansas State game would seem to be pretty evenly matched, would be a good one to watch. Could it be a brutal matchup between them, drudgery, overtime, etc.? In essence playing right into Iowa's favor as they would get the winner off of that on a short rest. AND, what is so dang tough about either Colorado or Kansas State? The Buffs have LOST 4 of their last 6 games. What they were early and mid-way through the season, they certainly are not now! And as for the Wildcats, what makes them overtly difficult? Why would it be so unfair to have to go up against the Wildcats as opposed to say, Indiana? Oklahoma, or Gonzaga, or Utah, or Baylor??? Didn't Oklahoma actually win that Big-12 Conference that Kansas State plays in? Having to play against the Wildcats doesn't seem to be unusually unfair! Stop it! So which round are we onto now, the Elite Eight? "Oh, no, they would have difficult teams to go up against in the Elite Eight!" Well, no crap, every team in the Elite Eight is going to be a difficult team to play! Arguing that potentially having last year's National Champion, LSU, would be somehow more difficult than a Notre Dame team, or a UCONN team, or an NC State team, or an Ohio State team is foolish thoughts. If you are legitimate, at that Elite Eight level, then you'd better plan on being able to compete with, and beat a Stanford team, or a UCLA team just as well. They are among the best of the best at that level, it is almost like saying that they are the eight most elite teams in the tournament! Stop it with "Iowa is being picked on!"

The whole thing is subjective. 1 seeds play 4 seeds and 2 seeds play 3 seeds and 3 seeds play 2 seed and 4 seeds play 1 seeds They rank all seeds 1-4. 1 seeds are rank 1-4, 2nd seeds are rank 1-4 and so on. Technically who ever got the 4th number 1 seed has the toughest schedule because forth seeds are going to play all number one seed that are rank first 2-16 and the 3rd number 1 seed will play all the 2nd seeds rank 2-16th and so on.
It’s because they have a stupid rule where they don’t want 2 members of the same conference being a top 4 seed in the same region. Ohio State has a better seed than UCLA even though they lost to them and have less quality wins. There’s no chance of earth Gonzaga is better than Indiana or Kansas State. MAYBE they are better than VT without Kitley. Colorado is clearly a top 16 but held back by arbitrary conference rules.
I’m giving you a thumbs up because I agree that the rule about conference teams is part of why the Albany to region is so tough. But I disagree about Colorado. I think they will do really well in the tournament, but I don’t think they were a victim of that conference rule because I think they’re seating dropped when they went on their losing streak.
People turn off the game if the game is a blow out. Most of the teams Iowa will play except for LSU in the chmpioship game have been either won or lost by 10 points and most of the games were split one loss and one win. A ten point game is a competitive game. If you put Iowa agaisnt easy teams and they are blow outs people will turn off that game. The thing about Albany 2 is that the teams are so close in skill wise they match up perfectly with each other meaning no blow outs. In the end its about Viewership, which teams playing each other will get the most viewership. Same goes for SC, those teams in that region are better matchup for SC.

Bold Prediction: Utah (The greatest 5 seed in recent memory) will likely win this region. They're the only team with a player that can get you 35 easy points (Layups and free-throws) in a tight game. Plus, they have the best passing attack. Even with Pili, it's hard to zero in on one player. They even have a center that can bomb threes. If they stick to their game plan and wear defenses out with passing and movement, then good luck stopping them.

From a fair point yes but for a tv rating point no. In Albany 2 each of those teams are so equally matched that depending on which night it is either team can win that game. Most of those teams had split games this season or won or lost by less than 10 points. LSU being in this region is actually a disadvantage because LSU plays terrible against quick teams. It does seem they are giving SC an easy path, but when you have several unbeaten seasons and dont win a champioship nobody is going to remember the team. Now that Clark is leaving they need a hot item to gain viewership. A perfect season team could be that hot ticket to gain viewership. Clark games have an average of a million plus viewers and that not even on a mainstream cable network. Those numbers could be higher on the mainstream channels. They need to fill that void.
Iowa got screwed royally. They lack size and LOW AND BEHOLD, here comes Lauren Betts, Ayoka Lee, and LSU's (Respectfully) Thug Nation inside. Don’t let the lack of household names fool you sir. More high quality teams than the SEC or Big 10. Definitely not over seeded.

From a fair point yes but for a tv rating point no. In Albany 2 each of those teams are so equally matched that depending on which night it is either team can win that game. Most of those teams had split games this season or won or lost by less than 10 points. LSU being in this region is actually a disadvantage because LSU plays terrible against quick teams. It does seem they are giving SC an easy path, but when you have several unbeaten seasons and dont win a champioship nobody is going to remember the team. Now that Clark is leaving they need a hot item to gain viewership. A perfect season team could be that hot ticket to gain viewership. Clark games have an average of a million plus viewers and that not even on a mainstream cable network. Those numbers could be higher on the mainstream channels. They need to fill that void.
Iowa got screwed royally. They lack size and LOW AND BEHOLD, here comes Lauren Betts, Ayoka Lee, and LSU's (Respectfully) Thug Nation inside.
