Thank You, Thank You, Thank you!! Can’t tell you how many videos I have had to watch to finally find one that explained bronzer & contour so well. All the why’s & how’s. Also, appreciate your concise clarity!
I love this video! I have been cheap and have used to bronzer to contour for years not understanding why my contour never looked right lol thanks for explaining why and how to properly apply both 😊
Thank you thank you thank you you beautiful soul. So many mistake contour and bronzer for the same thing, even my 'professional' makeup artist teachers. It has never made any logic sense to me as bronzer, much like highlight sometimes has a shimmer, and is a lot warmer than what the shadows of your face should be, thank you thank you thank you. I also could never figure out how to use it until you because everyone says something different. Thank you
I don't need you to see me from down the street . . . 😂😂😂 You are so funny! And thanks for the tips, cause, well, let's just say you've helped me do the sighted world a favor. 😬
You said that you should only put blush on the apples of your cheeks, and that otherwise it would look dated. If you’re familiar with makeup artist Wayne Goss, he says for more mature women (40+) you should not put it on the apples but instead start in the midpoint between your nose and ear and take it back to the hairline. 🤔 He said this causes a “lifting” effect that makes you look more youthful.
Amanda Stone I’m glad I’m not the only one. So I wonder...is it just a matter of taste or has anyone tested both ways to see which is more flattering? 😀
I was always taught that regardless of age your blush and your bronzer should connect or meet on your cheekbone between your eye and ear. Which is essentially what she did; it all blended together. If you think blush weighs down your cheeks it might be the color or the matte-ness of the shade. I always find it's hard to nail apple of cheek application because it's easy to get it too close to your nose and then my face looks smushed, ha.
I think the analogy you were searching for in describing the purpose of contour is shadow! It's supposed to mimic the shadow the higher facial bones would naturally create. Contour exaggerates that shadow you may, or may not otherwise, have. Or it helps to receed by darkening the higher hairline; rounder jawline. I wanted to yell out SHADOW as you were talking. LOL
Makeup Geek has some really nice contours and so does Inglot. And they are both fairly moderately priced, in fact I think both charge $16 (if you just want the pan.) Both have a lot of beautiful shades to choose from and both have really nice formulas. Not TOO pigmented, but buildable...just as a cheek product should be imo.
Caitlin Thomas I love their eyeshadows too. I have 2 extra large magnetic palettes full plus the MannyMUAxMUG palette lol I have tons of other really good eyeshadow palettes as well but I always reach for my MUG. I haven’t even purchased an eyeshadow palette in ages bc they just seem to sit there since I always use my MUG shadows instead.
Video idea! Not sure if anyone else struggles with this but...Something that I struggle with is the 'lighting' when trying to apply my makeup. Sometimes my lit up round mirror doesn't give me accurate lighting. So I run around the house using various mirrors with various lighting from the windows...still not sufficient. Even my bathroom lighting isn't that great. What do you use? I'm guessing your regular makeup-routine lighting is different from your "filming lighting"? Again, I just wonder if anyone else struggles with lighting?
Sylvia Yes! I agree! I try to go by a window for natural light but I’m not sure if that’s the best plan (and doesn’t work at all when it’s dark out obviously) I would appreciate this too!
Find bulbs that have a 5000k light spectrum- this mimics the natural daylight- not too yellow or blue. You can find the light color/rating on the LED bulb packaging if you’re looking in the store. Also, best to have even lighting all the way around your face. I use my lit close up mirror for more detailed work, but I balance it by looking in my fully lit vanity style mirror. I hope this helps 💕
I agree, the blush ended up in a strange place and shape. I prefer the "dated" placement of blush - from the middle of the (smileless) cheek towards the temple rather than towards the shoulder 😄
Light hand maybe? I’ve wondered the same. The face seems almost too small to place all the products we put on it! In one cheek area most makeup enthusiasts use contour, bronzer, blush and highlight! No wonder it can get muddy!!
Olivia Mae Yes you can! Just use a light hand make sure your contour is ashy ( I’ve even seen very pale people use an almost grey color) you don’t want any warmth in all in your contour. And try to stay away from bronzers that are too orange.
Delila Farrell If you’ve never tried bronzer and you want to just dabble without spending a bunch of money, go for the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer. I think there are 2-3 different shades. But the formula is GORGEOUS. It’s just like it’s name suggests, like butter (and it smells like summer.) PF isn’t the cheapest brand at the drugstore, but I always see sales for their stuff. But I highly recommend the Butter Bronzer. It really is beautiful. Not too orange like some bronzers can be :)
Delila Farrell No problem:) Just an fyi, unless you are SUPER pale, don’t get the “light” version. I know they have the original version and the light, they may have a darker version now but I’m not sure about that. But I mistakenly picked up the light version the first time I tried it and it was way too light. Like, it didn’t even show up on my face. And I’m pretty pale. So get the original version, unless like I said you are very very pale, which it doesn’t seem to be the case judging by your videos (you are beautiful btw :) ) Anyways, I hope you love it!
kathleen halvorsen Makeup Geek and Inglot both have some good contours. Makeup Geek has it set up by skin tone too (fair, light, medium, deep)so it makes it easy to find the best one for you. Inglot has TONS of shades as well. These are just a couple for those who can’t or don’t want to spend the money for the Kevin Aucoin that she uses :)
Great explanation! I think for me the confusion is when I see you tubers using two products (one for contour and one for bronzer) but they are literally the same color and it seems they put them directly in the same place. Yet they refer to them as separate steps. It makes no sense to me to put on a warm liquid “contour” followed by a warm powder bronzer in the same exact areas of the face. Why do they do this???!! It’s what has been my biggest source of confusion.
I love your explanations. But, for some of us more “mature” ladies would we apply differently? Would it be possible for you to do a drug store tutorial on this again. I certainly don’t want to pay big money for products I may open and say....no way that looks terrible. 🤦🏼♀️ I am behind but trying to look like I have an idea. Thank you seriously!!
If you purchase products from Ulta or Sephora and don't like them you can return them. :) I never buy makeup at a drug store anymore for this reason. I never feel like I waste money.
Search UA-cam for videos that compare products and offer drug store options. Tati is the Queen of product reviews. Search her and you’ll immediately find videos about drugstore options for high end products. And why would being older change the placement of most products? I can see eye makeup being an issue for mature skin but I don’t see how being older would make any difference on your base (foundation, concealer, contour, etc).
I love how you give us tons of info in a short & concise video. Thank you for not taking 23 minutes to explain this. 😍
Agreed 🙌🙌🙌
Seriously thank u 🙏🏼
Thank you for showing the difference between contour and Bronzer! That has always been confusing to me! Love following you!
Me also!
From the many videos about contour, blush and bronzer this is the BEST
short and to the point. Perfect video. Thanks
Thank You, Thank You, Thank you!!
Can’t tell you how many videos I have had to watch to finally find one that explained bronzer & contour so well. All the why’s & how’s. Also, appreciate your concise clarity!
I love how you do realistic makeup for everyday life and not just looks for an Insta feed.
You seem like a very warm and friendly person and I really love that, I also love that you didn't take ages to get to the point. Haha!
I'd much rather take ur advice and listen to u because your makeup looks so much better than most youtubers! You always look naturally flawless
Thank you so much! Great tutorial and explanation! I love how natural and effortless your makeup looks!
Such a beautiful and fresh look
The most perfect explanation for contour, bronzer, blush and highliter I have seen so far! Thank you! 😊👍🏾
I love this video! I have been cheap and have used to bronzer to contour for years not understanding why my contour never looked right lol thanks for explaining why and how to properly apply both 😊
Love how fast and brief you are. Great video.
She reminds me of Christina Applegate. Pretty! Thanks for the tutorial!
Excellent! I’ve seen this thousands of times ( on YT) but this video gives me some very clear direction/ methods to use so YAY thank you !
Love this and needed it! Very practical and helpful!
Loved this!!! Really informative, concise and fun to watch. Perfect for busy people!

Michelle Kaminer I was thinking the same thing!! He states that in more than one video.
Amanda Stone I’m glad I’m not the only one. So I wonder...is it just a matter of taste or has anyone tested both ways to see which is more flattering? 😀
I'm 44 and can't stand the way I look with blush on the apples of my cheeks. It weighs my face down.
Wayne is the makeup KING!! 👑

It looks beautiful ! You look like you have been on vacay ❤️
Thank you for the helpful and to the point video. Would you mind listing the products under the video description?
Actually I opened the links and found the products. Thank you:)
I clicked on the link but it has multiple items. What contour product is that? It looks like the PERFECT color. Love this video. Thanks for sharing!
LOVE this... your tutorials are LIFE...

MaryAnn Sepke LOL I wanted to yell out “depth”! But yes, I agree with shadow! 😄
Love this so much! Quick and useful and gorgeous!

So beautiful 😍 great video
OMG. Perfect! Exactly the video I needed!!!
Thank you so much, very informative. I love the more natural look 💗
Very pretty. Thanks so much for the explanation. Would you mind linking the products you use?
Well, now I know. I was using the bronzer for contouring. Thanks.
Thank you so much! I am so glad to have found you! ❤️
You do such a great job explaining. So refreshing, especially when compared with heavily made up whining you tubers. Thank you!
That was so helpful!! Thank you ❤️ amazing as always!
Loving your hair today. But I also love it all the other days too.
I bought the Hoola bronzer because of this video and I love it!
Kate, I really miss the hair videos. Can you do some videos on hairstyles with day or two old hair.
Looks lovely! Great explanation 😁😉
It looks perfect! 💋
Your videos are so helpful to me, thank you.

They say don't put ur blush on smiling because when u are not smiling it may make ur blush out of place .
I remember that advice from about twenty years ago. I think the trend has just changed. The 80s blush advice was also different.
I agree, the blush ended up in a strange place and shape. I prefer the "dated" placement of blush - from the middle of the (smileless) cheek towards the temple rather than towards the shoulder 😄
What did you use for contiur
Should I contour or stick with a bronzer? Because I am not good at blending my contour.
Concise. Informative. Helpful.
Thanks.
Omg thank u for this video I been bronzing wrong and using the wrong brush. WENDY FROM NH💙
What about setting powder? Do you use it one top of everything?
Charlotte Tillbury is so freakin expensive though!
Great tutorial Kate! I like the fresh look!!! xo Cindi
Thank you for this tutorial 🤗
Congrats. So interesting. Thank you
What’s that bronzer brush? Looks so pretty!
I like her. Very good.
Yassss! This! Thank you xxx
How do you keep face/cheek products from looking muddy?
This?☝🏻☝🏻
Light hand maybe? I’ve wondered the same. The face seems almost too small to place all the products we put on it! In one cheek area most makeup enthusiasts use contour, bronzer, blush and highlight! No wonder it can get muddy!!
What bronzer did she use to contour did anyone hear? x
Could you do this eye look? Gorge!
Hey, I'm really pale though, can I still do all three, contour, blush, bronzer....???.
Olivia Mae Yes you can! Just use a light hand make sure your contour is ashy ( I’ve even seen very pale people use an almost grey color) you don’t want any warmth in all in your contour. And try to stay away from bronzers that are too orange.
what color of bronzer you use?
Beautiful. I’ve been doing it wrong.....lol. Thanks for clarifying. ❌⭕️
Love your content ! How old are you? Just checking so I can see if products will work for me
She is 32.
I so need to try bronzer! Lol
Love from a new channel❤️

I've been using Benefit bronzer only .. can you suggest a countour ??
kathleen halvorsen Makeup Geek and Inglot both have some good contours. Makeup Geek has it set up by skin tone too (fair, light, medium, deep)so it makes it easy to find the best one for you. My bronzer is darker on my skin. =( that means i will apply small amount on my face lightly?
Maybe you need a lighter bronzer.
