There are multiple discrepancies in this episode.
For full story, read “ The Evil Love” by Geoffrey Wansell, published in 1996.
      There is also fantastic blog:
“ The Needle Pulls the Thread: Barefoot Child- The Life of Heather West”. Google it.
I’ve read everything there is on West’s and timelines prove that Rose didn’t kill little Charmaine: Fred did.
Also with Shirley Robinson: she wanted Fred to marry her & Rose convinced Fred to kill Shirley.
There is plethora of evidence connecting West’s to protected paedo rings & murder & dismemberment patterns show satanic /occult connections.
Another great books are “ The Corpse Garden” and “ Fred and Rose”( lookthem up on Amazon).

I had a brush with Fred West during the 1970s. I was driving on the A40, now M40, West of Carmarthen. I noticed that cars ahead of me were slowing down, and avoiding something in the road. As I got nearer, I saw a boy, perhaps 10-12 years old, running amongst the traffic in utter terror, being chased by a man, who was kicking out viciously at him. I stopped my car, yelled at the man to stop kicking at the boy, but he took no notice. I grabbed him, gave him a "dead leg" to sober him up, and pushed him to the ground away from the road, out of harm's way. I tried to comfort the boy, but he was crying desperately, and I could not get any sense out of him. The man said, in a strong West country accent, "It's all right - he suffers from asthma", which sounded a strange excuse for making such a vicious attack. I told him to be quiet, then flagged down a car, asking the driver to call the police from the next house, as there had been an incident. The police eventually turned up, I described what had happened. The man said his name was Frederick West. I gave the police my details, fully expecting to be called as a witness, but I heard no more about the matter, until I saw the man's distinctive "monkey face" in the papers years later.

I think he was more frightened than badly hurt. He was still sobbing when I left him with the police. I fully expected to be contacted by the police as a witness. I don't know who the boy was, I asked him if the man (whom I now know a lot more about) was his Dad. He said that he was not, but was too upset to tell me anything else. Strangely, I had been a witness to a similar incident when I was a child, with my Dad. This did result in a Court case, and my Dad was required to give evidence. I thought that the same would happen this time.

Like everybody else, the police have probably got to fill in so many forms and do risk assessments before they actually get down to doing what they are supposed to, that they are left with very little time for real work. I am glad I am now a pensioner and free from all of that.Just back from an 11 mile stroll in my local (Pentland) hills - certainly beats working!
Yes, if I had known that he was a serial murderer and sadist, then a dead leg would have been rather inadequate. However, at the time my concern was to get him out of the road, and to stop him kicking the boy. He had clearly lost control, either he or the boy could easily have been killed by traffic. What did surprise me was that only I stopped my car and sorted the situation out. Surely, some of those who just drove on must have been young men - how could they just ignore a terrified boy being abused?

But the case of the Wests is one of only a handful that make me physically ill. Killing and cutting up young girls is one thing, but doing it to your own flesh and blood is incomprehensible to most people. I can't remember how I first heard about the crimes of Fred and Rosemary West, but I doubt I read about it in the paper, as I live in America and I guess there were other things more newsworthy (John Wayne Gacy was nearing his execution date, which kept it on the front page, particularly hear in my native Illinois). I've read and seen a lot of horrible things during the years I've studied true crime and I believe that the Wests may be two of only a handful of people that I believe have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's sad to think that horrific crimes like this are still happening all over the world, and people like Rosemary and Fred West still exist. These kinds of stories that needs to be remembered. If we can understand this kind of past evil, then maybe we can prevent it in the future.

when fred raped his underage sister and impragnated her why he was not put in jail? why police didnt took notic of so much dissapearances? why when Heather told her school friends no one came up to help her there are so so many questions raise about this case

    • @BedtimeStoriesChannel
      @BedtimeStoriesChannel  6 років тому +48

He didn't impregnate his sister, but he did rape her and he should have been put in jail, but he can only be put in jail if he is convicted in a court of law. He can only be convicted in a court of law if there is evidence against him. The only evidence was his sister's word and she refused to testify in the end. Most of the disappearances were from areas nowhere near where Fred lived, he used to drive out miles and abduct them from bus stops and pick up female hitchhikers. There was no reason for police to link them back to Fred. However the missing person's cases were kept open, but went cold. You have a point about Heather, but I feel she spoke too late and when concerned people did ask after her welfare, Fred and Rose cooked up this story about her moving to Devon.

I could walk a mile in pitch black darkness and be scared of the unknown, but aliens, slenderman, monthman etc. never put chills through my body like the thought of a human being lurking out there in hopes of killing me. Sometimes there are atrocities that seem to hit me in the gut like nothing else, that keep me from becoming too immune and jaded to mourning for those lost to the Evil of this world. This is one of those cases. I'd heard about this case from another channel some months back, and it was the first time I'd encountered it.
But it wasn't until watching your video on the West case that I began to feel what anybody should feel at something like this: Despair, Horror, Grief, Shock, Disgust, Contempt, and an ineffable sense of mourning something. I am often terrified by videos like those of Bedtime Stories (and other outstanding channels, like Lazy Masquerade). But although I can get quite emotional consuming various media, I rarely get that way watching these kinds of videos.
This analysis was different. By half-way through, I could not stop crying. I'm still crying. The deeply empathic and compassionate manner in which you unpacked these Human Atrocities was so profoundly upsetting to me, because it _should_ be profoundly upsetting. It's the kind of thing that makes you wonder why any of us does anything in our lifetimes other than helping rescue and protect children from the unspeakable Evils of this world. Like my pursuit of anything other than justice for children is somehow immoral, even - for lack of a better word - _blasphemous_ or...something.
I wish these comments were more eloquent and articulate. But what can we say when we encounter such unfathomable horrors?
in any case, I want to thank you all for this video, but especially because of the only thing - other than tears - that gave me some catharsis from watching this: At the end of the video - 28:35 - your comments about the question of whether Evil - true, abject, midnight black Evil - exists or not. And I so very much needed to hear what you said. About how anybody can know what happened in this case and somehow not accept the reality of Evil (and of course, the converse of Good). Me, and I'm sure many many other viewers, needed to hear this, because it was the exact same question I was asking myself (and answering in the affirmative) during the course of the video.
Much as I love the paranormal facets of this channel, you are all clearly adept at addressing the most frightening facets of the _natural_ world with great empathy and care and subtlety. I hope you do more videos in this vein.
    /apologies for length

Funny how you say that at the end of your comment while the seemingly "good" people here are making up torture methods for these people.
      Human hypocrisy is so interesting.

Just stumbled across your site today. What a refreshing way to scare the hell out of people! I really like how the stories are told through (excellent) drawings. I’ve been fascinated with the paranormal since I was a child and I’m really enjoying your channel- not brave enough to watch these stories at bedtime though!

I’m from the uk. Remember as this story was breaking, body after body being brought out I was only about 13, but remember thinking how much worse can this story get. The answer. So much worse

Excellent episode. More like this please, based on True Crime, tragic as these stories may be. I like your paranormal episodes, but you have to continue peppering your output with more episodes like this produced in your signature storytelling style. Great job.

i Disagree with more episodes like this, If I wanted to watch a true crime documentary there is hundreds on youtube which I have watched including numerous on fred and rose west, I much prefer your lesser known cases don't get me wrong I enjoyed the episode but just recapping on things I have heard time and time before my personal favourite episode about the rumoured satanic goings on at the old military building in Germany especially in the basement

ryan kelly I understand your sentiment and agree to an extent. We will definitely keep the focus on the paranormal / supernatural. However, 73% of our audience are North American and many of them would not have heard of this case. I wanted to do a particularly shocking and fairly well-known case to begin our foray into true crime, but when we do them in future, we'll perhaps look at more obscure ones. In my office where I work, the average age is around 25. When they asked what my episode this week would be based on I was shocked to hear that most of them had never heard of it. Some had heard the names of Fred and Rose West before, but didn't know what they had actually done.

I'm 23 but to be fair there probably isn't a serial killer I don't know England or anywhere(haha just really into true crime). To be fair I commented as I was watching and now after watching there was a lot of cool little details I hadn't actually heard. This episode was actually, probably the most chilling think it was because it actually happened and the stuff you are telling is fact. Great stuff once again and the illustrations along with your narration is top notch! btw my personal favourite ep. is the one about the rumours of satanic goings on in the military base in Germany in the basement cant recall the name (ive watched them all). Anyway keep the videos coming your subscriber count does not resemble your quality I'm guessing you'll be at least 30k by the end of the year

By wanting these guys to do more episodes on True Crime, i don't mean on topics that aren't mysterious or have already been solved. I mean topics that remain unsolved and are truly chilling to the bone in the way they happened or in some other aspect. There are many of these. In my mind, Bedtime Stories is about stories that will give you nightmares when trying to sleep, which doesn't imply that it needs to be supernatural. In many ways, non supernatural stories can be even more chilling than supernatural ones. I'd paste some links here to some of the kinds of stories i'm talking about, but i don't want to take the wind out of the sails of Bedtime Stories. I'd rather you see it first on this channel, which does a much better job of story telling than others.

Thank you so much for tackling this case with the respect and sobriety it deserves. I very much enjoy your videos and your tone of narration. I don't mind sensationalized stories once in while, but it is truly good to come across some that treat the topic of true crime with the respect it deserves. Here's to more stories from your channel, they are a welcome background noise for art.

I passed by Gloucester on a trip through the UK in 1982. Chilling to think that just a few miles away from me, the Wests were raping, torturing, and murdering women, and living on top of a graveyard of their young victims. This episode is by far the most disturbing one you've yet posted.

This is one of the most troubling things I've ever heard. All I can say is people take heed of little children and what may appear to be problems with them, as it could lead to helping them and others. RIP to all the victims...I hope Fred and Rosemary, if there is a hell, rot there.

This episode is the first that has made me cry. My previous binge sessions have mostly come close, but had never drawn a tear from its duct. I wept for the losses of all of those women and children, and found myself hurting inside for the families that undoubtedly still mourn their losses.
While the actions are abhorrent and monstrous, I do thank you for relaying them in this video. It feels important to me to know of these lost souls, if only to mourn them from afar. I truly hope that they all rest in peace now, as I shed silent tears for these departed.
    Thank you, truly.

I used to walk past this house often as a child in the early 90s. It's close to the city park where loads of kids play. It was a dirty dingy inner-city area with huge but deteriorating townhouses where things like this could happen unnoticed.

Unimaginably horrific, and at the same time tragic...on a more civilized note, kudos to your straightforward, articulate narration and Thank You for not trying to sound ominous or drone on in a monotone manner which would insult the memory, and demean the terrors suffered, by the poor unfortunate victims.
