The Jamaican community is part of the history of Brixton since the arrival of the ship ‘Empire Windrush’ in 1948 and are referred to as the ‘Windrush’ generation. Many Jamaicans settled in Brixton and worked hard and bought up the big houses in the area because they couldn’t get places to rent and didn’t qualify for social housing at the time. In the 1990s many sold up and moved back home to Jamaica or to smaller houses in London. The ‘yuppies’ started moving in and the area went through gentrification. The area is no longer about Jamaicans only - it’s very multicultural. The market place has changed and now consists of trendy coffee bars, bistros and restaurants. In recognition of their contribution to the area, there’s a square called ‘Windrush Square’. The point is, the Jamaican connection to Brixton is nothing like it was in the 50s, 60s and 70s. They are now part of the history of Brixton.
How your stay in Jamaica was one of your best, but as they say the work is not yet finished so is time to move on to the next chapter!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

A brief history of Jamaicans in Brixton:- After World War 2, Brixton saw the arrival of the Windrush Generation into Britain. They would first be housed temporarily in deep air-raid shelters in Clapham Common, close to Brixton, and several of them would go to the Labour Exchange in Brixton to find work before ultimately settling in Brixton.
As the nearest employment exchange to the shelter was in Brixton; many of the original migrants eventually found accommodation in the area. In 1998, the public space outside what is now the Black Cultural Archives was renamed Windrush Square to mark the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush. Many of those people have moved out of the area and the market and area are now very multicultural but Jamaicans will always be a part of its history.
Yes I could definitely see that Jamaican influence in Brixton when I went there on the weekend.
Yeah the Windrush generation. It wasn't even the first ship to bring "the Wind rush generation" to the UK!

Stay strong on the no processed sugar journey. You are doing yourself a world of good! To help, eat a few dried apricots or a couple dates. That's natural sugar attached to fiber so you will get your fix and not harm your general health.

Basically sugar is an addictive drug and you don't realize the hold it has on you until you cut it out of your diet.

I wanted to say everywhere in the world has increased in cost of living .
Ee just have adjust and blame it on Covid19 .
I lived in kingston jamaica , but the up town of jamaica is called ( New Kingston , Andrew jamaica . Theres an hotel in that little in it's called the hip strip to the kingstonian strip is pretty popular and above there .
You have bob Marley museum on then further above that you have Sovereign shopping centers where they many floors food court on ground floor stores on one or floor they have mall stores now on the very top theirs an movie theater that's what brought me there on weekends growing up .
Next time try the Jamaica bob marley saw and knew , shaggy , sean paul also beenie man .

We have just got back from a very eventful holiday in Jamaica I never thought I would ever experiences a hurricane in my life time but thanks to the hard work staff at the hotel we came out it in one piece . If you want to live more cheeply in the UK you have to live up north were the price of homes are a lot cheaper my brother lives near London and has the same size home has me but you will pay a guarter of the costs of my house compared to is also the price of every day essentials are lower
