    If anyone outside of the FAA or Law Enforcement (i.e. the person who hates drones and drone pilots) has access to the Remote ID information, I can see it putting a lot of Drone Pilots in real danger. I think the reason we don't hear more stories of hostile interactions between the Anti-drone crowd and Drone Pilots now is because the A-holes out there who have nothing better to do than to go at a Drone Pilots if they see a Drone is they can't readily find them. Remote ID is the Bat Signal directly to the Pilot location. This is bad JuJu! The FAA is systematically dismantling Recreational Drone Flying

      We the people own and run this country, in theory and practical application. If We the people stand up and say no, this is why etc than it wouldn't happen. The problem is everyone is busy and trying to keep food on the table and their bills paid, nobody wants to devote time to implementing a meeting of all hobbyist, all part 107 to gather and discuss it all. For that matter a vote could be taken, a petition could be assembled and signed by all hobbyist and one for part 107. This could happen, we have the power of what goes and what doesn't. Problem is most people don't know it or they just don't believe it. We do not consent👎who's with me? At least hobbyist section? Anyone? ________

      It is also ilegal to use an electronic device to track an individual. this Remote ID rule is in violation of many other laws. We already made more than 50 thousand comments against the rule but they don't seem to be listening to the people. Governments declared an open war on people since 2020. I don't think anyone will comply with this. lets see how it ends.

      The rule should also stipulate that the information of anyone with an active monitoring device is beamed back to the pilot. I mean, since we are making this all overly complex anyway...

      I think the more common scenario would be someone catching wind of that being a way to steal an expensive drone. particularly if a pilot is alone flying at night or in a remote area. it wouldn't be that hard to pull it off if you were really committed to it.

    Local law enforcement here, the overwhelming majority of us doesn’t want instant access to this information. If it turns out to be something worth investigating, we can take the time to go through the process of obtaining the info. Otherwise every busybody, HOA director, etc. will worry us to death every time they see a drone. And trust me, every time, anywhere, under any condition, they will figure out a way that they felt violated.

      For FPV pilots they don't even need this. 95% of the time they can see the FPV pilot who is in control of the drone because they will be nearby with a set of goggles on their face and a big radio controller in their hands. This includes LEOs.

      Know what they can do about it? They can direct Customs & Border Protection to deny entry for shipments from noncompliant manufacturers, or possibly direct them to confiscate and destroy those shipments. It all depends on how (for lack of a better term coming to mind) anal-retentive the FAA wants to be about this.
      There are a few thousand drone pilots around the country who know how to fly safely and stay out of trouble. Then there are a handful that like to do whatever the hell they want no matter how bad an idea it is, and it's that handful which is bringing the heavy end of the hammer down on the entire industry...and catching model-aircraft builders and flyers with collateral damage.

    Thanks for your effort and information. I am licensed private pilot and built a a two place aircraft in my garage and started flying it 1991 and flew it for ten years. I had the FAA come and inspect it to obtain the airworthiness certificate. Mostly what they were concerned with was weight and balance calculations were done, if necessary placards were placed, and the plane was built with aircraft hardware. I had a non-certified engine. Instruments were VFR only, no transponder. At that time I could fly over most of Houston as long as I was below TCA ceilings and not be required to talk to a tower. My info was not being transmitted since I had no transponder. I am just an recreational pilot and amateur photographer who enjoys having a camera on a drone. I’m doing just scenic vistas and vacation type photography. I didn’t spend a thousand dollars on an amateur camera platform just to have the FAA trying to regulate every aspect of my safe, efficient, and considerate of others flights.

A hobby that has been around for ages.amd has an excellent safety record without regulations and spy software/hardware. What is really sad.is.all this regulation garbage is discouraging a lot of.beginners. These regulations only punish law abiding people. I have an graduate degree in Public Administration (MPA) and have taught graduate level course work in an MPA program as well. Good presentation and info. You are asking the right questions. But the drone world won't end on 9/16/22. I did not work for the FAA but did work for the DOE and have seen a few of these "cliffs" approaching. In the end, delays will be implemented. For example, a moratorium on the 9/16/22 implementation will be granted, maybe for a year. And practical measures, like a "grandfather" clause for existing drones will be implemented. The FAA is likely pushing ahead to shock the industry into preparations to comply. They won't be forced to comply for who knows how long. These are guesses on my part, based on a career in the .gov.

    Excellent video. I am a Private pilot and operate 2 drones, Phantom 3 Std and a Mini 2, love them both. I have heard of only a couple incidents where a drone has interfered with aircraft. Those mylar party baloons cause way more problems for aircraft and you never hear of those cases. Perhaps the FAA (Government) who screws up everything they get involved with should require RID on those party baloons. The registration for UAVs is good as it identifies the owner if the UAV causes damage or injury as the owner can be held liable. Damage or injury by a UAV is very rare as the owner does not want his expensive UAV damaged or liable for damages. Did Congress pass this RID law???? or is this something the FAA dreamed up to give some of their employees something to do. Remember the FAAs moto "Were not happy till your not happy".

  • @aleckson
    @aleckson 2 роки тому +7

    The best recourse was actually just laid out by SCOTUS when they issued a ruling against the EPA for exceeding their regulatory authority. In the case of RemoteID, I believe the FAA has grossly exceeded their regulatory authority as authorized by Congress. It will take a court case to get the RID regulation tossed, but I think it’s the best path. The FAA, like most government 3-letter agencies, is far exceeding what their agency is supposed to be doing.

    Great info as always as everyone else has already said. I think I'll continue to fly as I see fit within reason (thts why I did Part 107 to begin with) and largely ignore this as will many others. The only way this will be mainstream, literally ever, is if this software is somehow built into flight controllers from the get go...which hilariously enough I'm sure will be able to be turned off in Betaflight or spoofed or etc. The FAA is stretched very thin, so as long as everyone keeps their heads down and doesn't fly recklessly (as should be the case anyway) I'm sure everyone will be just fine.

    When you are made to feel like a criminal for flying FPV with goggles on in an open field in class G airspace, below or just above the treetops where there is virtually ZERO risk of aircraft to see and avoid, how can one be expected to have respect for RID?
    Rules need to be sensible or they simply won’t be followed. I do suspect unfortunately a few will be burned at the stake over this when an incident occurs.

Curious if the FAA will provide to manufacturers the specification standards for RID compliance. Have not seen any info from the FAA on that. They need to get their stuff together. 2) Additionally, I have not seen ANYONE manufacturing RID fobs. The FAA needs to clarify their rhetoric on this further. 3) The FPV community are not just recreational flyers folks. There are some incredible cinematic content coming from some amazing pilots like Jaybyrd and others. There are so many prebuilt, homebuilt fpv drones where adding a fob that weighs as much as the drone itself is just not feasible. (I still maintain my AMA membership, as well as membership at an AMA club field, although I go there relatively seldom), Most of my fixed-wing RC flying for the last few years have been e-Flite UMX models in the sub-250 gram category, often at local parks (the RC field is a 1/2 hour drive away).
    As you said in the title, sounds like it's going to be a "Shit-$how"; a lot of the FAA's enforcement efforts (other than in some of the more blatant & serious drone airspace violations) remind me of the FCC's "attempted" enforcement attempts on illegal CB radio operations during the heyday of the "10-4, Good Buddy" CB craze.

      If it is over 250 grams and was manufactured after September 2022 (not 2023), then the manufacturer was REQUIRED to have Remote ID in it. If it didn't, they are in violation of FAA regulation.

    I’m juuuust getting into this hobby. What did I know….
    I’m 100% disabled. Housebound, mostly. I don’t
    drive anymore. So, got the bright idea to buy a drone on e-bay. Figured it might help me get out of these “four walls” so to speak.
    So far this has not been fun.
    Appears to be getting even
    un-funner. LOL😳
    There’s initial cost. The drone comes broken, its e-bay, of course! Then comes the TRUST Course. (Thanks Greg. So glad I found you on the web.) Next comes registration (Doing the right thing, right?!?!)🫡
    So I go in the backyard. Fly, crash. Fly, crash. Fly, crash.
    HONEY, AM I HAVING FUN YET?
    I think maybe my yard is not big enough for me to fly and to do all the fine tuning this
    craft needs in order to fly like a well trained dog before you let it off leash in the park, lol.
    So, I waver on doing the Part-107. Just for the sake of doing it, primarily. But that’s a chunk-o-money.
    This is losing its luster…
    And now I see Greg’s new video on the many multi-horrors the Un-American
    Administration is stomping
    on us with hobnailed boots.
    (With all this new RID stuff, was there ever the requisite
    60 or 90 day REQUISITE Public Input Time? as required by Congress?)

    It will be a lot of paperwork that the FAA will ignore. I have a friend that work air traffic control, was a controller at Oshkosh, and instructed new controllers for Great Lakes Approach. I asked him about LAANC authorizations. The air traffic controllers have no idea about them in real time. Without a network, there will be little reception for Wi-Fi from the altitures that we operate at. A LoRay system would be most practical. As the system is not to use ADS-B, it will be of little value if you're flying way too low in the first place.
    I have a few more years in aviation than you (about 55). ADS-B was delayed about five years, just like mode C transponders were delayed.

    • @PilotInstitute
      @PilotInstitute  2 роки тому +1

      To be fair, LAANC was never designed to notify ATC. That's why there is a grid. ATC would now about a drone if the operator requested to fly higher than the grid number, which is airspace that was not designed for UAS. I hope this clarifies it.

    What happens when a regulating governmental body issues rules or laws that the community of the regulated find to be completely beyond what is reasonable and acceptable? Think prohibition, prostitution, recreational drug laws, speed limits, and gun laws to name a few. What happens is the regulating body succeeds in creating a new class of criminal, drives the activity "underground", and loses any degree of control that they might have had if they had been more reasonable. At least that's what history teaches us.

    • @PilotInstitute
      @PilotInstitute  2 роки тому +1

      There’s certainly a risk that RID becomes the most non-complied with regulation for drones, rendering it useless when it comes to its primary goal: traffic management. However, with the largest manufacturers likely eventually complying, it would make about 70% of future quadcopters compliant at a minimum.

      @@PilotInstitute: What's interesting is that, as you report, there is no evidence as of now that DJI or Autel intend to comply. Will the FAA shut the entire industry down? I doubt it. Or perhaps they will be forced to delay implementation while negotiating a more reasonable, not to mention doable solution.
      Also observe that both DJI and Autel have put a whole lot of R&D effort over the last few years into the sub 250's. I'm sensing a long term trend with several good reasons. Could well be where the market for hobbyists and small commercial operators is going. These little birds even now don't give up a whole lot of really necessary functionality. The small real estate folks will have to pretend to be hobbyists (wink wink nudge nudge), but that doesn't seem to be a problem for the most part.
      I have also noted that there is a semi-underground semi-cottage industry selling patches to hack DJI drones to neutralize geofencing. This market could explode in popularity with Remote ID.
      Then of course there's the whole home building market. This could easily morph into cottage industries selling non-compliant drones of all kinds to the general market.
      Just extrapolating current trends into the near future.

By being so heavy handed with Remote ID they may be damaging themselves more than they seem to be aware of.

    There will be loopholes and we will find them. For instance. What is a manufactured drone? Is it a bind and fly? If that is the case they will sell you a frame and motors in one box and sell your the rest in another box. Two separate kits. Manufactures do this all of the time to skirt DOE regulations in commercial appliances. Kits. You get the whole thing, but there are 2 part numbers. There will be a way to skirt the manufactures requirements for FPV. Maybe not for Part 107, but how will the FAA know where the video came from that your are selling? You buy one cheap compliant FPV drone for part 107. Get your work done with your good drone “recreationally” and say the professional work was all done with a Compliant Eachine $99 special. Bahaha. The FAA will have to hire a million investigators to enforce this crap. The FAA should respect freedom and get out of the drone regulation business. It’s going to be a nightmare for them. Once the word gets out there will be so many Karen’s calling the cops and the FAA that they will just blow it off. Get a life FAA. Drone people are not without brains.
