@@georgemwangi1581 Our economy used to be stronger than that of Singapore, look at us now? for a fact what I've mentioned is what is holding us back, and not only Kenya but Africa as a whole. Look at Congo? One of the most mineral rich nations in the world yet one of the poorest nation while it's politicians are living the high life? Nigeria has a big oil reserve but why are they not developed like other oil nations like Qatar or UAE? Instead they rank in top 10 most corrupt countries. Do you remember when PLO Lumumba was removed as head of EACC for simply doing his job? And not even the opposition leaders defended him because they are just as corrupt as the rest. It has taken other countries less than 60 years to get their act together, that's not an excuse for Kenya to be in the position it is right now. There is progress but it is being severely hindered by the factors I've mentioned earlier.

He didn't say Kenya is at par with Singapore. He said Kenya "could" be the next singapore of Africa. We are not yet there, but we are slowly evolving. I'll tell you that you are more likely to be, at the very least, called out for corruption or BS in Kenya than most other countries in Africa and beyond. In 20-30 yrs, we will be better at handling corruption. Remember, corruption had become part of our culture, and it's not easy to change cultural practices, it takes time. Importantly, we have shown great success in addressing cultural issues like FGM and child marriage, hinting at out ability to address issues like corruption in due time. So be optimistic my brother. Let us call out corruption and be part of the transformational process to being a less corrupt society.

Until the Kenyan government totally overhauls the
    1. Education sector and curriculum
    2. Energy industry
    3. The health sector
    4. Security
As a population we will be reduced to spectators of others coming from elsewhere and taking advantage of our friendly welcoming attitudes because we have been conditioned for so long into indiscriminately swallowing the "welcome investors" without really settling a cap on this generic term.
If you coming over here to set up a semi- conductor plant employing thousands, then yes, you are an investor I want.
But if you coming here to employ less than 100 souls, then kindly, eff off opportunist

    • @sarcodiemiller386
      @sarcodiemiller386 Рік тому +4

Your observation is succinct and something my Kenyan friends have expressed concern about; especially overhauling the Education sector to become useful to the population. Kenyans are quick to welcome anyone and everyone without pronounced measures/controls, which can also be a demerit in the long run. Not everyone has the best interest for your country. Kenya is known as gateway country ("role model") which the West and East use to influence their agendas in other African countries social and political systems. For example, LGBTQIZ, massive spying (story for another day), a country where majority Africans use under the auspices of seeking to relocate to the West and East (e.g. Somalis, Sudanese, Ethiopians, Congolese etc), exporting labor skills at the expense of natives and so on. Kenya is not going anywhere unless their government invests in its people by accelerating R&D, investments which promote local expertise, and reverse the brain drain. As the saying goes, you can ALWAYS change the way you think about things. You can't always change everything, but the way we perceive it might bring a whole new kind of change

    • @antony6799
      @antony6799 Рік тому +1

@@sarcodiemiller386The idea that anyone can just go to Kenya and get a welcome mat to do as they please is simply false, first of all even investing in Kenya as a foreigner is a headache, Kenya has one of the lowest FDI stock as a percentage of GDP in Africa, meaning Kenya is struggling to attract foreign investment. The tourism sector is also practically dead at this point, most foreigners prefer to go to Zanzibar or Seychelles, so trust me ,foreigners arent going to Kenya en masse as people imagine. In terms of education, Kenya has the best human capital in Africa due to heavy investments in education by the govt in the last decade, there's also a new curriculum that emphasizes on competency rather than on exams and theory, I think despite the challenges, the future is bright

Oh don't get me started on "pseudo" vibrant value in the tourism industry in Kenya!
The industry is 97% foreign owned and the major stake holders have a kry role in policy and desicion making in the country.
Kenyan tourism industry is some 150 yrs old, dating back to the days aristrocrats used to Openly come for tressure hunting. (They still do, but not as openly).
Yet besides building a few resorts at the north and south coast, the industry hasn't really changed much.
Back in Sept 2018, president Uhuru calls for a presser in a carnivore-esk atmosphere, self congratutaling
(makofi kilo😫🤌🙄) on the nation Kenya having achieved a "monumental" 2 mill visitors per year😡😭
Mind you, This is the CRADDLE of Mankind! Bomas of Kenya, which SHOULD be a provissional window to us and the world on WHO Kenyans are, the facility is 😫😫😭🤌 unkept, even a cowshed in the rural Kenya is better maintained. The Kenyan archives is a storage of clutter..outdated, unkept, it litteraly stinks..let alone ALL other ammenities Kenya has to offer, from hiking, high altitude sport improving facility, wildlife, deep sea fishing, jungle, highlands, plain safaris plus of course, beaches and bitches.(no pun)!
At the VERY same time Uhuru was celebrating mediocrity, a slightly smaller nation on the ither side of globe offering ONLY beaches and bitches., the industry was hitting the streets demonstrating on the skewed government policies that limited the industry in reaching the 30million mark visitors threshold annually!.
This is a 60 yr old industry (almost half old a Kenya) and only limited to 2 main packages, and industry that came to being when american soldiers needed a break during the Korean and later Vetnam war.. Yes the nation is Thailand.

      Free markets
      Free trade
      Free movement
      Free minds
      Free involvement
      Free investment
      Free to join
      Free to risk
      Free to profit
      Free
      It's a choice
And africa is not always the first choice as it is to controlling of every thing
And that has lead to a top heavy industry
      Where only a few profit
I say they are scared of a real challenge
But maybe the people of Africa are ready for the challenge and ready to profit and enjoy there personally
      Freedom

We haven't taken the first step and we are already overhyping Kenya as the next Singapore. NHIF, edible oil scandal and more unsolve corruption cases from the previous regime are still not addressed. If we don't dealing with the bitter truth is we are going no where.

Kenya will never be the next Singapore. We have been surviving for the last 60 yrs and trying to get on track. Kenya will become the Kenya it should be, it may take long but we'll get there. God is with us we shall not fall

@@cathycarty3222 It will eventually lie on the vestiges as a language for international correspondence. Kiswahili has shown that if given the chance it encompasses all aspects. The reliance on colonial languages will be put to the past. Besides DRC and Rwanda still use French as official, therefore we will be at cross roads deciding which language takes second stage. So maybe English may stick around for sometime but eventually its national and official usage will be deprecated in the course of time.

I congratulate Kenya upon the many initiatives. If it also works on corruption, it will reach a lot higher. In the East African region, we are proud of Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. Burundi remains very vulnerable!! South Sudan has a terrible influence from the neighborhood. DRC is suffering because of its ruch resources. Uganda is moving in reverse gear because it's leaders passionately HATE those they lead. They will go an extra mile to ensure that it's people suffer in impoverishment!!!

Corruption is the killer of our Development. If it finds a mechanism to eliminate corruption, more investors will have trusts and confidence to invest and definitely create more jobs opportunities for the growing population. Another opportunity is for the old foxes in the government sectors to resign and give way to the young generation who have potential and ability to work. 😊
