110% agree says I’m not gonna go crazy of this build but all we got it datson series, he definitely looks like he is enjoying it. I’m enjoying this content.
1000%. It's a build any of us could scrape together. As much as I love the Chaser and Skyline builds, the way prices are $25k- $80k for the car alone, it's not very relatable to most. Though they are still fun, this video series is where it's at!
Adam, your Mainline dyno has intercooler pressure drop testing built in. Just hook up one of its MAP sensors to the compressor discharge and the other one to manifold pressure. It will calculate the pressure drop for you. Then you can test back to back, and it will be stored in all of your runs for you to evaluate in the F2 screen.
Nice job Adam...! Get some fire-resistant panel-bond in a calk-tube for all the mating edges after you make the backstop braces, it'll make it airtight and will give you a clean line!
@CatchingVibes You only have to spend $10k on lighting IF you have a warehouse like this. Most UA-cam car guys will have regular garages (2-3 cars) where a couple hundred in lighting is enough.
I gotta say this is one of the best series of videos that I have watched in all the years of being subscribed to you. Major Props to you getting in there and actually trying to learn the skills to build what you want. You connect with way more people when its actually seeing you working on or learning fab skills to accomplish what you want. Also as some others have said I also love the fact that it is not another OEM+ build.
Personally what has me attracted to this series is it bringing me back to the raw days working on the 240's in the garage with just you, the camera, and all the interesting random info. Its a cool change of pace
I have a lot more respect for Adam, for the way he embraced this piece of car history and making it better. Most of those older cars were icons in their days and was ahead of their time as far as car tech go.
This Datsun has been such a cool build, cause it’s so different from your usual stuff. I think all the little imperfections, and fact that you are doing as much stuff out of your wheelhouse is what’s making this awesome! Like Adams first classic and drag car, all powered from a rotary!! What’s not to love?…
This car and the crx seems to put the biggest smile on adam. Popping wheelies and cracking vtec makes him giggle like a kid that realized that this is what hes gonna be doing the rest of his life
Adam: If I lie to you I'm not doing you justice. As a Master Craftsmen, welder, carpenter, computer builder, medic, gunsmith, machinist there's not much I can't do. At times I was crying watching this. But I thought you did a great job installing a handmade firewall. There's pride in that!!!!!!!! I was surprised to see what you challenged yourself to do. 👍👍👍👍! Good content and if your thumb hurts! Yeah I saw that!! A very small drill bit is best to drill a small hole in your fingernail to relieve the pressure. (IE) Don't use a drill. You wont like that. Do it by hand. I'm still trying to find a shop that will take on my 1995 Nissan 200sx build. Keep it as long as you need it for the build and content. Once your done just give it back to me built. It has a one Off wide body kit, custom air intake and 4 to 2 dual exhaust. I will do anything to get it to you and pick it up. The car has sentimental value to me. My Daughter was about to be born and I needed a bigger car compared to my single cab truck. It's her car that's the way I feel about it. I'm caring for my elderly father and don't have time to work on it. Thanks for the consideration.
The Datsun build reminds me of the early cream 180sx builds watching Adam learn new things is aweosme . The fact the build is being kept on a budget keeps it relateable. There is lots i am taking away from this video to build the inside of canopy on my ute , The cardboard idea is going to be put to good use!!I first started watchng Adam because my first car was a s13 silvia and had radiator cooling problems and i youtube it and adam popped up, This feels like og content. Keep it up . Cheers from Australia :)
Adam, take a long stretch of vacuum line, cut 1 straight line in the hose to open it up and you can slide it over the edge to create a nice seal on the gaps, also will help keep out any fumes!
Vacuum line isn't fire resistant. The whole reason of the firewall is to protect the cabin from fire. Sealing it from fumes is just an added bonus. A fire resistant silicone sealant should be used. Vacuum line will probably work and won't immediately catch on fire but why use that when you can use actual fire resistant silicone.
It's soooo much easier to make the template out of multiple pieces than trying to make 1 piece work. I use poster board and painters tape, work the hard curves first and then use strips for the longer sections. No need to make the entire piece so I usually leave the inside of the template "empty". Grab a pair of the sheet metal shears from harbor freight, bear or however you spell it. They are super sharp and don't make any shavings, super clean cuts. I don't have a stomp shear so that's my only aluminum cutting tool. Always do your bead rolling first then cut to size as the bead rolling does change your dimensions some. Bead rolling doesn't like sharp turns, so next time put some larger radius turns into the design and it won't warp on you. To help with those warps, you can hammer around the "weird" areas and it will help release some of the stress that is causing it to warp. Hope this helps.
Hey Mike! I have some questions. Do you remember when you guys experimented and uploaded an HDR video? Do you happen to remember which video that was? I'm just curious and I wanted to check it out again. Also, I think I remember you guys wanted to upload in 4k back around the same time but it was too heavy on the crappy compound wifi at the time, any thoughts on trying again? Thanks.
hit it gently on the reverse side with an english wheel where you are going to run your beads, then hit it with the bead roller on the top side as normal, and you wont get that slight shrinking in it, which is causing the panel to curve.
Kinda funny I just came from watching Matt’s video. As much as I’d like to see that I understand adam not wanting anything to do with it. Maybe someday in the future they can meet up over another subject
ngl adam im hecking proud of you mate you legit didnt know how to use the equipment but you still went head first and hardly wasted any material good job
Love your doing all your own stuff Respect all the way mate. Been watching your Channel for years just gets better and better your all like one big family. Dan from Cornwall uk
That little Datsun may not be fastest, most powerful car you own but I think it’s the coolest car you own. I’m partial to Datsuns because my first car was a 1981 Datsun 200sx.
@27:21 what you need to do to get a perfect straight cut directly on the cut line, you will a pair of left and right handed tin snips putting a little cut on each end of the line curling down just enough to sit a little lower then all you do is slide your piece into the shear past the cut line then pull it back towards yourself until both little cut catch then then stomp on it!
I genuinely love the Datsun content; it was my first car, so I'm biased on my opinion but everything I've seen so far is what i woulda dreamed of doing and for that Adam, I thank you.
That firewall looks amazing, you did an awesome job. Don’t sweat the small stuff when it comes to the gaps. In a lot of race cars I’ve built over the years, I always urethane around the edges to make 100% sure no fire or fuel vapour could entire the drivers area. from the video they don’t look crazy big. So I’d just seal around the edges after the final mount tabes are done
I would think that’s cutting open the core support/grill area would cause more inefficiency due to air being able to flow around the intercooler versus forced through it with no way around. Same concept as a fan shroud on a radiator. Either way, I love that you’re just diving in and trying new things.
On that bottom edge of the fire wall piece, where it touches the cars floor. Take some small vacuum hose and pit a slit down the middle of it. And put it between the aluminum and the car. Prevents rattle noises and cleans up the look a lot, surprisingly.
Hey Adam LZ, just wanted to say that I love your content! Your car videos are so informative and engaging. You always manage to showcase and explain car parts and modifications in a way that's both educational and entertaining. As a fabricator, great job!! It’s awesome seeing you want to learn more about it and not being afraid of mistakes
Just the one off centre bead roll on the firewall 🙈 but thats how you learn, eventually he will redo it and it will be near perfect 😎
Nice job Adam...! Get some fire-resistant panel-bond in a calk-tube for all the mating edges after you make the backstop braces, it'll make it airtight and will give you a clean line!

I was wondering why he isn't doing this .maby he has something else in mind. We will see
really cool to see a diy build rather than a back to stock build. great content
Im hooked on the build series for this car! Im kinda addicted, its so unique and cool!
The shop lighting really separates adam from other youtubers, its a small thing that adds so much quality
@CatchingVibes You only have to spend $10k on lighting IF you have a warehouse like this. Most UA-cam car guys will have regular garages (2-3 cars) where a couple hundred in lighting is enough.
Still doesnt change the fact Adam does it right. Good lighting is important for videos. Having Mike as his filmer is also a big W.
The Datsun content isn’t the content we deserve but it’s definitely the content we need! I love it!
The aluminum shaving under your eye when your on the dyno is stressing me out xD Stay safe dog, we love you!
I appriciate you not being afraid and trying new stuff like metal working. It takes some time to get head around for myself.
Nice to see your Purple GT3 completed. Sucks to hear you didn't want anything to do with it since you were "traumatized". Shout out Mat.
Yeah, little voice not would have been no bother surely. Real shame

It's refreshing to see Adam out of his element and doing things by his own hands 👏👏
It's always way more enjoyable seeing you attempt to wrench / build more times than not.
The Datsun content has been absolutely awesome !! Keep it coming LZ
Try using split rubber hose on the edges to clean up the gaps and give a better seal. Could keep vibration down as well
For pattern making, search tick stick method. As a fabricator I use it all the time. It’s great for tight spaces and it’s fast.
You know it's getting serious when Adam puts on the safety glasses 😯. Love the Datsun content!
Although the little piece of metal shaving near Adams eye during the dyno testing was driving me nuts haha.
Cool to see that, at your level of success, you are still teachable. Keep up the great work and willingness to learn. Respect!
Love Adam learning to fab shit himself, feels pretty wholesome that he at least tries his hand at it!
It’s cool seeing Adam try new things and test his own skills building and fabricating, confidence really is key
It is always humbling seeing you show your struggles with doing something new.
