    I think framework wins against this just in terms of repairability. There's plenty of things that beat framework in price to performance but the winning point that no one is close to is the repairability

      No you probably could never get your hands on the schematics for tbe Geekom, however the Mini PC has a lot less potential to need repair as it's stationary with significantly fewer parts.

    Thanks for the review, I always enjoy them. As much as I like mini PCs (I had a couple of Intel NUCs in the past) I've found that going larger with a small form factor PC meets my Windows needs better and is more affordable. These days I'm using a reconditioned SFF Dell OptiPlex 7010 with upgraded RAM, SSD, and GPU and, while certainly nowhere near as powerful as the Framework or IT12, it does a "good enough" job for me.

    Mini-pcs are portable if you are travelling between say your home and the cottage where you can have a monitor/kb/mouse on the ready at your other desk. I have a client who does exactly that. Just tuck it in your pack and go.

    I wonder if the Geekom it11 would be quieter than the it12 for basic home computing and office tasks? Would the extra power generate more heat and therefore more noise? I value a quiet pc over performance. Thanks.

    Appreciate your post. I just ordered the IT13, 9/20, seems it won't be available until 9/30 or so. This is my first rodeo with Geekom after some research. My primary intension is to move away from towers and laptops while keeping portability. I have a home recording studio running FL Studio and Cakewalk by BandLab with a ton of audio VST plugins. Do you have any thoughts on how the IT13 may perform? Thanks again for the post.

    13:20 While true, for the 2 people who want 4+ GB of storage but don't want an external drive the 5TB Barracuda is way cheaper than any 4TB SSD, SATA or otherwise.
    Of course a 4+TB external drive is cheaper still, but that's kinda defeating the point.
    Though looking at it, at least in Norway a Crucial P3 4TB is only about 1000 NOK (approx 100USD) more expensive, 2730 as opposed to 1513, and would absolutely be worthwhile. Given the budget class this PC belongs to, I think it would in most cases make more sense to spend the extra money on an SSD.

    What about using it for music production like FL studio? Other question, does the IT13 use usb-c power via fi a monitor, so the psu brick is not needed any longer? That would be a deal changer

    I chose the the GEEKOM IT13 i9. One big problem, the fan is always on and LOUD. Trying to find the UEFI BIOS has been impossible as where the tab should be it says, System Restore???Is the fan loud on the IT12?

    Framework should make a mini pc

    • @ghjong001
      @ghjong001 Рік тому +1

      They really should - it would be wider because of the laptop form factor, but you could easily put it in a properly sized chassis with a more robust cooler, and you'd have an identically spec'd mini PC that you can recycle used Framework mainboards into.

    • @TH22051

      all you need is a 3d printer and framework main and there your mini pc 😍

    • @ElevatedSystems
      @ElevatedSystems  Рік тому +8

      Realistically they do. Just buy a Framework mainboard and either the Coolermaster enclosure or 3d print the framework one and you have a mini pc.

      @@ElevatedSystems Framework should partner with Akasa to offer a fanless case. I have used intel NUCs for a long time and the fan noise was always the biggest drawback of these little machines. In your video, I find the fan noise of the Framework way more 'annoying' than the one of the mini pc.

    I've just bought a GEEKOM Mini IT12 i5-12450H and agree with most of your analysis, except the NOISE!
    I've set the fan to quiet mode in the BIOS, and I've tried running several Operating Systems including W11 and Ubuntu, but the fan noise is giving me a headache.
    I've not even started using power apps or games - I'm just browsing the internet etc.
    What am I doing wrong?!

      @@Neil-Aspinall According to the official Geekom website, the IT13 has a "Whisper-quiet cooling fan".
      I think Geekom are taking the p1ss.

      I returned my IT12 for a refund.

    I've been in touch with Geekom this week about their video card selection for this model as their ad now contradicts itself, claiming on the one hand the Iris Xe but lower down, the UHD is stated. They say:
    "Je suis désolé que nous ayons mal compris. MiniIt12 utilisait auparavant une carte graphique Intel Iris Xe. Désormais, tous ont été remplacés par des graphiques Intel® UHD".
    Given your fairly decent review of the performance on the video editing can you confirm you had the Iris?

      Here's the 1260P data. www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/226254/intel-core-i71260p-processor-18m-cache-up-to-4-70-ghz/specifications.html

      @@ElevatedSystems So I guess this goes to show that anyone reading these comments really MUST check with their supplier to see which graphics card they are getting with this model before buying to avoid disappointment. If it was an earlier batch, you'll like get the Iris, if not especially if in France, then the UHD is your likely lot.

    • @ElevatedSystems
      @ElevatedSystems  7 місяців тому

      @@johnbainbridge1931 there is no graphics card in this mini PC. The GPU is integrated into the CPU. The Intel I7-1260P has a 96 EU Iris Xe GPU. That's it, the 1260P does not come with any other iGPU.

      I apologise for not translating the French statement I gave in the first comment@@ElevatedSystems. This Geekom sales representative responded (after a couple of days) saying: "I am sorry that you have misunderstood. Minilt12 used to use an Intel Iris Xe graphics card. Now though, they've all been replace by Intel® UHD".

      Sorry, I forgot to mention: I’m especially thinking of the i5-version.

    • @ElevatedSystems
      @ElevatedSystems  Рік тому +1

      The geekom was dead silent at idle in both performance and quiet mode. In performance mode it got loud while under even moderate to light loads. However in quiet mode the fan didn't ramp up at all in basic workloads like MS Office, web browsing, etc. However it does still become audible under heavier loads like video rendering.
