You didnt need to say a word your face told all. Reminded me of when I first heard it. Couldnt beleive it and had to get up out of bed, log on and listen again.
The first time I heard it was when the French ice skaters (couple) competed using it. The combination of their skating and the song just tore my heart out. I highly recommend watching it.
Watched a bunch of reaction videos to this, that dudes velvet voice slays the ladies and leaves me feeling in awe too, but without the same look lol.
An interesting fact: the singer, David Draiman was super sick while performing. He was running a fever of over 100 degrees F.
Also, he trained as a Cantor (someone who leads prayer during a Jewish service) which is part of why his voice is so powerful. He doesn't use autotune. If it's ever applied to his stuff, it's against his wishes.
Both Simon and Garfunkel's and Disturbed's Versions are phenomenal. Each have their own strengths. One is more of a sweet melancholy the other sounds like a warning.
You do not "listen" to this version, you FEEL it. You cannot help being pulled into the emotions created
by a very talented artist.....I listen to this version almost daily.
This song always gives me the chills. David is truly a master of his craft. I really enjoy watching these reaction videos. Seeing the shock and awe on peoples faces, tells you how amazing he is as a musician. It's refreshing to hear this as contrasted to their normal sound.
Goosebumps... Every single time I watch this. David had a phenomenal voice, such control. I must have heard this song 50 or more times and it is like the first each time.
The silence you were hearing was the studio audience being completely captivated. I hear it every time I watch this video. This us my favorite cover of all time. Glad you felt the emotion too.
David is the lead singer for Disturbed. He was trained in classical singing and cantor. His dad was cantor singer also. He really did a great job singing the cover to this song. Great reaction video.

Your reaction was resembled mine and my brothers the first time we heard it. Had never even heard of the band Disturbed. We grew up in the early 70's and knew the original version well, along with all the other 70's rock and singer song writer music. So Disturbed isn't on the usual playlist. This version of that 60's song rocked us to our core. The lyrics hadn't changed, but for the first time we listened and heard the message. There is a lesson in it for all!

Caribbean Girl, even original singer & songwriter of this song emailed Disturbed's singer, David Draiman. Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel who wrote his version back in 1966. Paul heard Disturbed's version, and he loved it! Then he emailed Draiman about it. Of course, David Draiman was stoked!

I am a big fan of disturbed anyway, but that's what is so special about a band like Disturbed is that they can regenerate a classic song and turn it into something so intense and meaningful as this, they are great musicians.
I always felt the original lacked a kind of anger or intensity for the subject matter, and Disturbed filled that missing aspect perfectly.
They are one of my all time favorite bands I love they cover they did to land of confusion as well which was originally done in the 80's by Phil Collins and Genesis don't think I spelled that correctly !!
This song was originally Simon & Garfunkel's, and they endorsed Disturbed's version of their song!! Conan was the talk show they appeared on. He usually has some pretty good musical guests on.
The original Simon and Garfunkle song is sweet and calming. Disturbed's rendition is urgent. I prefer the Disturbed version with the message it delivers. It is an urgent message about apathy. I don't usually like renditions of original songs but I think this one fits the message better than the original.

I like the original more because I don't believe the message is to be yelled at though beautiful. The original has a cinematography or more apt for that because the original has a dreamy sound to it. Like story telling way, like they woke up and people have stopped communicating, connecting and they are wandering in this dream mode. Wandering this "lost city" with lights and people like zombies transfixed on technology. And the beginning vocals for original is so haunting. both are good, and definitely disturbed singer has amazing voice so definitlely better based on vocals, but still prefer original for such reason. I love songs where I can visualize creating a visual story telling to the song and the original is less over the top but haunting but smooth sound that just can have story telling to it.
I prefer the original.

Im not a particular fan of Disturbed, but this is what you get when you have a trained vocalist who knows how to use his voice and isnt just out to sound like every one else (read modern pop artists).
That is David Draiman, lead singer of the band Disturbed, and he's one of the most versatile male vocalists currently alive. He can practically top the scales in either direction.
He is classically trained, schooled as a Jewish Canter. He is one of the top ten in music for vocal range of 4-5 octaves. He is amazing!
We need to sing such songs to keep the sounds of silence away. Music can and does build bridges, it is not silence. The sad truth today is that many people are speaking without listening and so in effect they are silent. We need to learn to listen, in that way the silence can be broken.

The lead singer of the band Disturbed is David Draiman. He is classically trained in opera and chose to sing metal. The band is one of my ALL time favorites. Look them up. They have MANY amazing songs. Some I am sure you will know when you hear them. Especially Down with the Sickness.

To add to Big Kahuna's answer, the singer is David Draiman, lead singer of Disturbed. He also has a classically trained voice WHICH is evident in his voice. Views for the video is reaching close to 400, million as we speak. My suggestion, watch the official release video too. Imagery is even more powerful and so is David's delivery.

Draiman is a talented singer, but he is not classically trained. He actually has a law degree from Loyola and was administrator for a healthcare facility before signing his first music deal.
@@danwhitehousepc actually he was classically trained but only after Disturbed had released either 2 or 3 studio albums. He was ruining his voice in how he sang and so was classically trained in order to save it and now we've got the masterpiece that he is now because of that.
David is Jewish and was classically trained to be a Hazzan (cantor) but was expelled from 3 Jewish schools. According to what I have read after a night of drinking as a teenager he blew up the Rabbi's van. Simon and Garfunkel were the ones that sang it the first time. It came out in 1964. Paul Simon wrote this song while he was 21. I liked their song. But David from the group Disturbed. Sings it with more feeling and it's much more powerful and meaningful than Simon and Garfunkels. I am 62 and i am always willing to play a group that i have not heard of. All radio stations play the same music day after day. Ilove this song much more than the one that came out in 1964.

Oh, I know you are. Awesome that is. :-) When I met her, a whole new world revealed itself to me. As a Dane and a soldier, I've been born and bred into very stringent moral codes and rules of conduct, but with her I felt like all ties to keeping up appearances vanished like dew under the sun. I felt free, liberated. Happy. As if I had been incarcerated for decades and finally smelled the scent of freedom. That's what I take with me from the all too brief time we had together. Could I go back and choose differently, I would.
