Can you make a video game in Microsoft PowerPoint? I put that question to the test by trying to recreate the most famous first-person shooter of all time Doom in Microsoft PowerPoint.

This is like making a PowerPoint game in one day or making osu, a rhythm game or even beat saber in PowerPoint like Polymars, Icoso, Devbanna, and Emeral did but not really because I make a first-person shooter in PowerPoint. It's a first-person shooter in Powerpoint because its the original Doom game from 1993.

There's nothing more cursed to kill one Lost soul with a BFG
Nah they deserve it fuck lost souls
There is one thing more cursed. Missing
Unfortunate
unless you're pissed at the lost soul.
did you see that imp
as a certified doom fan, this video made me scream internally (no offence, but You could've just grabbed the shareware wad and ripped the needed assets with slade, it'd be way easier i think)
no pain, no game
MY. ASS. IS. HEAVY.
@@UsmanDevyoure (pretty much) trying to excuse the absolute PAIN you went through
Or gone to GZDoom and grabbed some level screenshots.
@@UsmanDev depending on how You look at it, ripping the sprites could also be harder lol
one shotting a cacodemon with a pistol
totally legit
yeah, **totally** legit
They runned doom on tik tok now what's next doom in human cells wait actually a random person somehow already do it@@UsmanDev
Using GIFs was a smart move looks interactive!
yee
if doom can run in a pregnancy test, theres no doubt it wouldn't run on powerpoint
Mother: Is it a boy?
Doctor: I don’t know how to tell you this… but it’s punching out a Cyberdemon without berserk.

@@UsmanDev Not being braindead you mean.
Bro choosed a master level for Doom 2 as a level for the first episode of Doom
I have been caught, i thought i could get away with it
Have you not played doom
this feels like a scratch project, well done btw
Nah, you can actually make doom in that, as opposed to this.
Hey, next time you can ask someone with doom or something to launch doom or other game map without entites like dead bodies etc. It would probably take less time to take a screenshot of empty map, maybe even with non visible gun etc. Opening doom builder, erasing entites and saving the map is very quick, then just turn on the game, take screenshot and finish. But that would be probably boring haha
Ultimate Doom Builder (UMDB) is a great map editor to do this with.
@@dylanpelo Yup, but any doom builder will do tho to simple entity erasing, Need just to keep in mind to not erase player start thing haha
@aurorafox1283 I only brought up UMDB because in 3D mode, hitting the "T" key will toggle between normal, hit box, and invisible renders of things/monsters.
А если использовать GZdoom и там же в настройках можно настроить игру (режим: без монстров, предметов и т.п.).
Pretty sure that “Knee Deep in the Dead” screenshot is actually from the Master Levels of Doom 2. XD
It is, it's Subspace.
@@0Lamp13
Thought so, it's definitely not Knee Deep in the Dead because I know those maps by heart.
I died inside when you used a Fanmade imp sprite
Bro I had no idea PowerPoint was so versatile.
I did this around 17 years ago when I was in school only I remade some of the assets purely in power point. I used the arrow keys to allow the player to actually move around a level, but I very quickly gave up because of how many frames would have been required, I used to make all sorts of artwork in power point for the fun of it.
Hello! PowerPoint game developer here. Always nice to see PowerPoint brought up in the mainstream from time-to-time. This kind of game is always fub to see as "mouse maze" type games are usually the first games people make when starting out in PowerPoint game development (and usually where most think the limits are). As an on/off PowerPoint game dev for the last 10 years I have lots of knowledge that I would be happy to share about my favorite game development platform :)
holy crap, 10 yr powerpoint dev
@@UsmanDev off and on, but ostensibly yes. If you're interested in realizing the full potential of Microsoft PowerPoint (and why despite my experiences with other game engines I keep coming back to it) I would be more than happy to hop on Zoom or whatever and show you some stuff.
Currently my living situation has stalled progress I was making on one of my more ambitious projects, but I'm hoping to address that soon and get something up-and-running again soon and be back to work on that project.
I'm fairly certain that this isn't going to go anywhere (sincd most people just try PowerPoint for the meme and don't really actually delve into it like I did so many years ago haha) but hey, who knows. Maybe you can become one of us (there are dozens of us... DOZENS)
Hey, I only recently got into PowerPoint and am just blow away by what you can do is it possible if you can give me template of some of your games?
@@Chris_84 I don't really have templates per se. I just make projects as I work on them.
The Best 2D FPS Game in PowerPoint
Before I learnt how to program I made myself a Game engine using PowerPoint, where it was meant to be something like a raycaster in which I used the 3d effects for the shapes to make the maps appear 3d.For movement I put arrow keys on the screen and for each slide it had different actions and took you to different slides. This is the closest you can get to a fully functional First person shooter with PowerPoint, but because it uses slides it's identical to making a game for Tiger Handhelds, not worth it.
PowerPoint dev here. Actually you can make dynamically-shifting 3D environments with keyboard control and even multiplayer. Making something like that happen is insanely challenging and requires some very clever usage of VBA, action commands, and UI design, but it is entirely possible (and something I did many years ago, though at that time there was no 3D support like there is now and I made multiplayer work using a now-dead plugin).
Im not that type of person and dont clown me or anything but...
Gifs are not Jifs. The G in Gif Stands for Graphics, not Jraphics
Jeneral
What is that imp 💀
a unique one to say the least
Great video! A wonderful example of 'limitations breed creativity'
Thanks!
This is clickbait.
Go cry about it. I liked it
@@Scream_Soda172Come back to me when you clocked enough time on that "playable" game that Steam wouldn't refund you.
@@fovarberma752 still doesn’t explain why it’s clickbait
@@Scream_Soda172 You didn't ask. Have you played 2 hours of that "game"?
Nu uh
Nobody pronounces it "Jraphics".
It's Gif, not Jif. I don't care what the creator said, he's wrong.
Jeneral
How’s he wrong about something he made 💀
Hmm yes, my favorite enemy in doom, the cocko demon
i love cock demon
this is painful to watch
i used to make games like this ALL THE TIME when i was like 10, but it would include choosing paths to move to, like a Myst style point-and-click
i heard that in ancient times devs write own engines
must be caveman times
Juddging by the video title, I was suspecting some binary code execution hack (as for example in case of Doom running in Doom)
I kinda want to see someone make a rail shooter like House of the Dead using powerpoint now
You used a fanmade recolored imp gif smh
ik it was intentional lol
@@UsmanDev lol
Makes great use of Doom's exclusive "Point-and-kill" interface as touted on the back of a particular in store release of the shareware version.
I'm not too savvy with Powerpoint, but would it be possible to have a background move with your mouse? And maybe make the W key change the background to move forward. That way you could simulate the illusion of being in an environment.
PowerPoint game dev here. Yes this is possible, however it's not easy.
There's no official support for keybind-triggered actions (the community has found some workarounds, myself included) nor things that follow the mouse-pointer.
The "easiest" implementation would be to use VBA with on-hover-trigger-macro action commands on invisible shapes to advance the perspective using a stored "array" of sorts. Doing this would be clunky but possible. Movement can also be achieved in a somewhat similar way using keybinds.
It would take a lot to really create any kind of dynamically-shifting 3D environment, but it is possible (this is something I made many years ago. I even got online multiplayer working. Yes it is just as janky as it sounds haha).
Imp wrong color
Fun fact: The imp shoots orange fireballs
The knee deep in the dead screenshot is not from DooM. Haha
I was expecting a VBA game, but a "Macromedia Flash" game serves as well
This is the only time you can say that your game is a literal PowerPoint presentation.
OK, now speed run it.
Gonna use this on my history final.
Probably the only time doom has ran like a slideshow
It isn't even doom
Er, most 90s PCs would like a word. (The Doom community has somehow deleted those memories.)
Super interesting spin on the "power point game" type videos. Turned out great!
thanks!
If you used macros you could pretty much recreate the real Doom on the PowerPoint
"CAAACOOOODEMON" 💀
Even thou i tried to make a shooter game, i used animated guns and not stock guns, but i still like the video and the game that you made, good job!
0:18 IS THAT THE BITE OF-

What an awesome vid U are so underrated

Can a wooden spoon run Doom?
We’ll find out in the next vid
@@UsmanDev Is this a teaser?!
Buddy Slade 3 (a doom editor) allows you to export sprites/textures to png, also has a built in map editor with a 3D viewer, the sprites have about 9 frames for each different animation so you could have recompiled them yourself.
he said on a different comment easy is for the weak
You could've made it 3D using the Powerpoint JS compatibility.
If only I knew power point could do this back in middle school 😂
jreat work this is a jood video my juy
Still better than the Jaguar version
should of used gz doom to get level screen shots. it has an option to play without monsters for exploring maps
Can you link to a download so we can try this?
This reminds me of those old Tiger Electronics games.
yeah it's basically the tiger electronics doom game but with better graphics and with actual sounds
I once did it too back i'm 2011 for a proyect in school, i believe i still have it somewhere
🔥🔥
In true PowerPoint fashion the first thing you did was place an image and scale it non-proportionally 😆
Also, I remember playing Pac Man in Excell about 15+ years ago. It was pretty good. Really zoomed out so each cell was a pixel and it was just like the real game.
Wasn't it easier to run the game withe the -nomonsters command to get the screenshots?
Great job!!! I would love to have this in my files. Will you make it downloadable? Please & Thank you.
3:16 thats a custom level man it has doom 2 textures and skybox
oh god why do you say JIF and why is i like that
soooo, in a way, its kinda like that custom tiger lcd DOOM, still impressive nonetheless
But can you make powerpoint in doom?
Probably
Yeah it's playable and so was Doom 2 on my 386 SX w/bare minimum ram of 4 MEGABYTES that literally ran at 2 FPS! That's "playable" but doesn't mean you're enjoy it!!
my man you need to find better image software
You could've used the actual extracted textures/sprites to make things easier. But it's still pretty good as is.
he said on a different comment easy is for the weak
cacodemon beatbox
I subbed because you pronounce GIF as "jif"
Having flashbacks to my Newgrounds days.
This game looks better than Starfield.
Great game engine
Bro this legit feels like a mobile game
doom in powerpoint download link?
Powerpoint is op
I can’t wait for high school so I can get a TI-84 plus only the real doom players know why
Imagine if you worked on this for a year or two
Is that how some of those Windows 2000 games were made?
7:57 Video start
I am going to make a bet: (which i will probably lose) i bet that doom can't run on that one school PC that turns into a airplane turbine when you open google.
Each frame is a slide.
lmaooo
Using a RocketLauncher on a Cyberdemon is pretty futile because he has +NORADIUSDMG.
Dam so this is what Gaming on a pentium in 2023 looks like
Не использовать спрайты из wad и не использовать GZdoom для воссоздания уровней - это пик всратого переноса doom в PowerPoint
Now make DOOM in Microsoft Word
it could technically be possible using hyperlinks, but there would be virtually no difficulty, as word doesn't have anything like "move to nth page after x seconds"
@@Malk3 actually it does, but it's far easier using PowerPoint's version of VBA code than it is Word's or Excel's.
What did you do to the imps😭 They do not look like that, plus they aren't melee

Not even bothering to learn that there are fanmade tools that allows you to rip the assets from the original doom games, making your whole process of taking pictures and gifs from google really pointless, time consuming and rough.
