Years ago when I was a teenager I was listening to two intellectuals talk about their favorite performers. One said he liked Betty Hutton. The other replied "She's ok, she does a lot of those 'hurley burly' numbers". I ask what that meant, and he explained "That's when a charming woman sings with a comical fighting attitude". Finally, now I see exactly what he meant!
Funny, I've only heard this on my "Spotlight on Betty Hutton" CD and wasn't sure I really liked it that much ... but so many of Betty's numbers which display the Hutton antics really require the listener SEE her do her thing to really appreciate the song ; ) SHE IS THE BEST ... I love Betty. My wife is very patient with me ... lol
I watched many of Ms. Hutton's movies, what an extraordinary talent she was, I know at her peek she bailed on Hollywood. I seen her on You Tube clips where she appeared on "What's My Line" in the 1950's, she was doing some Broadway and she was also promoting her work with a charity called "City of hope" whiche is a very well known charity even today. I think Hollywood's "studio system" was almost like a form of slavery-
