    I remember partying in the 80's same as Chris describes. Actually believed people like us would die young and didn't care. Going sober does change the way you think.I'm older than Chris and glad i'm still here. Glad you're still here too Chris. Now if I could make my guitar sound like yours...................

    I also lived a similar life as Chris, without the fame he achieve obviously. Wasn't for a like of trying though. i even gave up guitar for a long time because drinking and some drug use took me down a nightmare, suicidal road. Thank GOD i never killed anyone drinking and driving. I have been sober a decade now. i even started playing guitar again. i found the love of just playing music again. i know at my age my rock star dreams are over but, passion for making music never will. ROCK AND ROLL!!! If anyone is suffering from addiction, reach out and get help!! You have to take the first step but, thankfully there are millions of recovering people out there and YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT ALONE!!! That is why support groups are so great. Anyway...God bless...and, yeh, i saw the famous pool interview of this guy way back in the day and, he was me...cam't believe we are both alive!!! LOL...

      I am a sober musician as well. During the early to mid 90's I lived and worked in Austin
      TX, playing in various bands around 6th st.
      I was just having fun, but then it got to much to the point where I couldn't hold a regular job. And since I wasn't a star, I damn sure needed one. So I got away from it for a while. I still play though, just don't play bars anymore. Stay sober man, the only way to be.

    Wow how i wish my body would have been allergic to opiates, so much misery and pain avoided. If any young kids are thinking of trying hard drugs do yourself and your loved one's a favor, stay away- do the right thing, drugs will take you to places you thought you would never go and it will def make you do things you thought you would never do. When everyone else is falling in love or getting a great job, having your first child, buying your first house etc etc you will be the one in the dope house trying to find a vein in your arm. Please stay away from drugs and alcohol.Trust me not dope. Last but not lease DO NOT EVER get on Methadone.

    • @hellionstaley5875
      @hellionstaley5875 7 років тому +6

      and methadone is the only way when everything else fails. sadly when you get your body and mind addict to it, methadone will be the only way. some people have their bodies in need of opiates for life. methadone saved me after 18-19 years of use. I was never more than 6 months totally clean. I entered in 2015 and gladly it has been the only stuff to keep me in peace. so telling others to not get on it is a very baaaaad advice. methadone will saves those whose bodies are forever changed. sad but true.

    He sounds a lot like me actually. I used to be a nighclub musician and of course the drinking went hand in hand with it.
    I drove home drunk so many times I lost count, had 2 DWI's, and wrecked seveal cars. That didn't stop me. I started

      Yeah I'm 50, and on the average I played
      for $60 to a $100 a night. I played
      in Austin TX then I moved back to Corpus Christi TX where i live now.. The rate of pay for anything is cheaper once you get south of San Antonio, it's like they consider it Mexico
      down here. Of course the cost of living is cheaper too. But yeah-I drank a lot back then, being in bars all the time and being surrounded by it. I no longer drink and seldom do I play gigs anymore, the economy took care of that.

    I fucking LOVE how he's playing the same old Jackson V, he's had since the 1980's. And, how it's beat all to hell. I still play the same bass I gigged with in the 80's, and it's beat to hell, and back, too.

    • @shadowalk
      @shadowalk 4 місяці тому

      That beat up Jackson is probably a much higher quality guitar than most brand new Jacksons today even the US-made ones. I have a friend who bought a brand new SL1 Soloist from Sam Ash not too long ago and it started to not make a sound after a few weeks. Turns out one of the wires going to the bridge pickup got cut off due to faulty soldering.

He would be awesome in a larger band with more instruments, playing his bluesy style, with the right singer. I hate the music industry these days. He should be in a big band, selling big numbers of albums. Rock on Chris Holmes!

    Chris Holmes is still my favorite I still like his playing way better then zakk or dimebag I think he should be in the rock and roll hall of fame just by himself but one guitarist who is better would be Neil young or Kurt Cobain man I can not imagine the level if talent but Chris Holmes is close. But his playing blows my mind every time.

    He actually seems smarter nowdays_ In the 80's he was a dumb blonde_ i was amazed he could even play guitar_ Blacker Lawless was actually an intelligent guy_ I imagined Blackie jamming with Chris ....'No Chris ! It's a Sustained D and then back up to the G Dammit !!'

      +Laurence Sims You have no clue what you're on about. His playing was even below average in his heydays. Nowadays it's even worse. Did you see the beginning of this video? That's embarrassing! Zack Wylde and Dimebag are far from my favourite guitar players but they're in a completely different league than Holmes. One he can only dream about.

      Chris is 62 years old... He's lived the life of 10 rock stars and is still making music and sober. To go from being a full blown alcoholic for 30+ years to sober life is a feat all its own. I have nothing but respect for Chris. Considering how much money Blackie has fucked him out of I'm surprised Chris isn't in prison for murder. I give him credit also for being a man and washing his hands of Blackie.

    Well, as a kid, I used to think Blackie was cool! The imagery and everything! I made a BC Rich guitar out of cardboard as a kid because of W.A.S.P. But this was in the time of "Myth & Legend" so to speak,as the rock musicians were like gladiators! SO LARGER THAN LIFE! As all you had was the vinyl, Rock magazines, hear say and word of mouth! But now, with the internet, we have a lot of actual facts surfacing and band members being able to express "The Truth". There's a lot I have researched about W.A.S.P and as much as I tried not to believe half the things I read, because I didn't want to believe them. The bottom line is that my respect has been shattered regarding Blackie Lawless! Granted, he is articulate, but he is also a scheming, selfish, greedy, profit thirsty sell out! He has robbed others of what should rightfully be theirs! And he is a wimp!!

    well its bullshit that he never played drunk, in the late 90s wasp played the station night club in rhode island and i was hired to run monitor mix for the band, about 2 hours before the show i had to bring chris to kent county hospital to get his methadone so he wouldnt detox on us, he rode with me with bottle in hand and was drinking like a fish right on up to show time, he was so polluted playing he was a mess but somehow sounded great,, and after the show is when he got serious about drinking and bellied up to the bar and drank beyond anyone ive ever seen. the end
