  • In this video, I show how to clear a trouble with the Ryobi 3100 psi pressure washer with the idle down option. Make sure you run the gasoline dry when you’re storing it for a long period of time! Also make sure you run that hose water for at least 15 seconds to clear out any calcium or other contaminants. Thanks again for watching. Catch you on the next one. Yo sonny!!!

    First video I found that goes over all the possible issues. Mine starts and runs and when pulling the trigger it runs really well but when I'm not pulling the trigger the engine pulses up and down. Then when I pull the trigger it runs smooth but it doesn't just idle smooth like yours. Hope cleaning all this will fix. Think I also have an oil leak. Noticed the grass was dead the following day and felt slick on the plate under the engine. Don't know where from though. Thanks for making this video. Gotta sub outta me.

      Dude! I get your frustration. I have the same model and I HATE it. Getting it started is always a real issue with pressure building up and it dying and you wouldn't be able to pull the starter cord until you pulled the trigger to release pressure. Then when you finally get it started it dies as soon as you want to start using it.

    I had the same exact problem. Carb was good, that dump valve was pretty gummed up. I took the small nut off the valve, then the large one, then pulled the spring off. Then I took a 11/16 socket (3/8 drive), flipped it facing the hole so the drive part rode the nipple part of the larger nut. Then snug it up and start turning the large nut and your dump valve will pull out super easy. DO NOT USE AN IMPACT! Good luck.

      Brother, thank you for your comment! Your way of removing the valve works flawlessly. That was the only part of the break down I thought would give me hell. Fortunately my valve was clean, but I won’t hesitate to check it again some day.

    Update- I did everything but it still was stalling when not powered. Turns out the lower spring connecting the cable to the throttle had stretched. When I adjusted more tension by moving to the other slot it was fine. Still appreciate all I learned.

    Thanks for this video I hope it helps me. I have a ryobi 3300 gas powered GCV 190 motor. Started with gummed up carb. Cleaned it out started right up 2 days ago but only pressure for 1/2 second. Left it outside and it rained. Now won't start at all. Pulled unloader valve, came out easily with screwdriver. Looked ok to me. Tapped it back in and put clip back in. I really pray that it is this idle cable you mentioned on the video. If it is that would be great. I am going to pull the spark plug and check that too. Thanks again this could be my problem too!

    I've got the same PW and had the same problem. The first thing you need to check is anchor point for that idle down cable sleeve. Ryobi uses a cheap plastic cable anchor with a bolt into more plastic. I pulled & lubed the cable and spring valve thingy but it was moving pretty easily already. Started and same problem. I moved the cable clamp 3 coils closer the end of the sleeve and the problem was solved.

    Got me going in the right direction. I ended up bypassing the idle down cable. There was ring under that instruction card on the side that I assume was intended for that idle down return spring for using that engine in other equipment. Hooked the spring over and got me through the day so I can do a proper fix later.
    The insulation on the idle down cable was peeled back from the cable rocking back and forth on that plastic clamp. The engine's throttle was getting thrown all over.
    Worked for me but y'all are on your own!

    Working on mine now, After you take the 2 nuts and the spring out you can put about 7-8 washers, then put the nut on an tighten to pull out the stuck unloader valve. Mine has the symptom of of a stuck cable after you put the cleaned unloader valve in, so I'm glad you covered that as well. I am also having a tough time getting the valve seated back in far enough to put the clip back on.

      @@HighRidgeHandyman Just got done fixing mine, turns out there is no cable on my Ryobi PW. After getting the unloader valve back in it was still stalling when I pulled the trigger on the gun. I had the unloader valve nut too far in (figured I would get more pressure) I backed it off some and now there is no stalling anymore, it does however kick the engine down quite a bit when squeezing the trigger. I just learned that the nozzle tips have different sizes, one needs to have tips which orifice size matches the GPM of your pressure washer.

    I just finished cleaning mine. It was covered and every jet hole etc filled with brown crud - old gas.
    It stopped working years ago because the soap clogged it up and then it also wouldn’t run
    My pressure valve was stuck and impossible to pull out so I backed off the nuts and removed the spring. I then put s socket where the spring goes bigger than the hole and screwed on the big nut which pulled the valve out in seconds with no damage. Every part of the hose was clogged with soap.
    I haven’t put it back together as its 230 am but it also has no spark even with new plug
    Such fun

    • @LifeSavingDefense
      @LifeSavingDefense 3 роки тому

      It works great now that it’s clean and has a new magneto ignition which failed....
      ...... EXCEPT the outer rubber of the hose did not standup to just sitting in a hot florida garage and literally disintegrated leaving only the white cloth covering. It actually worked for about half an hour before water made a hole so I’m looking for a new hose.
      Definitely run till it’s dry and drain the bowl when stored. Same with the soap. Clean it out. When I say stored I mean if you’re not using it the next day then EMPTY everything. Fuel, water, soap etc. Only takes a minute but will save you alot of time.

    Good video but how is the “idle down” connected to the motor governor? Is it a spring or a wire? Is it adjustable for the best idle? I wish I could see how you re-installed the cable end of the idle down assembly to the motor.

    • @HighRidgeHandyman
      @HighRidgeHandyman  4 роки тому

      It is a cable that connects into a spring so when you pull trigger the pressure activates the spring to pull the cable connected to the throttle to activate the idle up. If I find another video I’ll forward it to you

    Where does the little circle disc that sits inside of the assembly go. I think the previous owner tinkered with it and might have put it in the wrong place. Does the disc go inside of valve body or does it go inside of the brass valve where the cable comes from. Thank you
