  • Here is a small DIY cardboard organizer tutorial for fountain pen and dip pen nibs. Check out the following blogs posts, which were my inspiration to embark on this nib book project:
    Anne Elser: annepages.blogspot.com/2012/04...
    Studio Chavelli: chavelli.com/blog/cardboard-c...
    Geek Calligraphy: geekcalligraphy.com/blog/2017...
Also, hope you liked that infomercial parody in the beginning! That was one of the most fun things to film. :)

This video brings me so much joy! As for glue, I've always been a fan of Aleene's Original Tacky Glue. It works quite nicely with fabric, ribbon, paper, sequences, plastic, you name it. E6000 is also great and a bit more hardcore.

I'm so happy to hear that :) Thank you for the recommendation! I've never heard of Aleene's. I've used E6000 before, but didn't think of it for this!

    I love this video. :).
I suggest folding the edges of the ribbon under before attaching.
Or I would use some fancy duct tape for the
binding. I have used this in the past on booklets
that I have made by sewing together sheets of
paper, than using duct tape to make a clean
edge. I've used cardboard and cloth as covers.
    :).

I adoooore your videos! So informative, and you have me on the floor rolling in laughter. That bit about the nice paper and the calligraphy errors…lol. 😆

What a genius idea to use corrugated cardboard! This makes me miss the bookbinding class I took in college.
There we used Lineco Neutral PH Adhesive, which I highly recommend! It's a good thick consistency and dries pretty quickly. I used it to glue on both paper and fabric covers, and it didn't seep through the fabric as long as I spread it out thinly enough.

A bookbinding class sounds like so much fun! And thank you for the adhesive recommendation!

Your angled ruler looks more like a combination square. 🙂
My first thought for glue for such a project would have been PVA, the glue used by book binders. I've watched a lot of book binder videos, but never got started with that hobby. Now that your channel has rekindled my interest in calligraphy, maybe I will. Calligraphy and book binding are two hobbies that could work well together, along with paper marbling. Anyway, I'm not sure if PVA works well with ribbon. I know regular cloth has to be transformed into book cloth before it can be used for book binding to prevent bleed through issues like you had with the ribbon. Maybe your ribbon would benefit from being transformed into "book ribbon."

Thanks for the great ideas! I picked up a bunch of nibs recently, but once I take them out of their original package, I couldn't figure out how to store them to keep them from getting damaged / lost. This is an awesome way to store them!!

I feel the same about the fancy paper as well as other accoutrements. I always buy to much in case its discontinued and then don't use all I have so it dosn't run out. :/.

I love your videos, you have a wonderfully creative mind and thank you for sharing it! You've probably already found a better glue than the mod podge for the ribbon, but if I may suggest E6000. I've use it quite a bit and a little goes a very long way. :)

Omg this is amazing! I’ve missed your videos! For glue, you can try fabri-tac by Beacon (any craft store will carry it). It’s great for fabric and paper.

for the ribbon to paper use contact cement. works well with pretty much anything and is for the most part permanently glued

For ribbons to paper, use double sided sticky tape to hold in place while PVA glue dries for a secure fix.

That sentence that starts at 6:25, "Really, this was just an excuse . . ." 🤣 Also, me thinking about the stash of cardboard boxes I finally threw away last week, thinking, "When will I ever use these?"
Assuming the metal corners were at Michaels? Also, agree with the commentor below that this would be a good opportunity to label them (and use gold ink and a calligraphy tip?)

Thank you for saying that you buy something to use but never use it because you don't want to waste it. I'm very useful with my hands and love to make something from nothing but I'm accused of being a horder ah well you can't please everyone. Keep well

Haha we all do it! I think of myself as quite resourceful, but I also have way too many materials lying around.
