Spike makes this game look WAAAY to easy. One of the hardest games to play as an adult, let alone a kid. As he says, 'unfair' is the best way to describe it. Crazy skill to do the stuff he's doing.
Not sure if I agree with the statement that it's among the hardest game to play as an adult but it's up there, and what this runner does is definitely mindblowing to watch. What I also loved about Rayman was that you could play the soundtracks by putting the game disc in your CD player. I remember I used to do that every now and then while doing my homework.

I like the DSI port of the game, as it's much more easy. you get 5 base health and it extends to 7. also, the trigger points to spawn items are highlighted with sparkles.

Well I only cleared it thanks to a cheat code that set your lives to 99 and replenishes your health. I'm pretty sure why they put it in. Even with that, there are plenty of really hard parts but at least you can retry.
Its not really rushed, its more of an example of Nintendo Hard fake difficulty. It has to do with how back then, they didn't had a good grasp as to how they should challenge their players. It's also the reason why games nowadays looks much easier as well.
Unfortunately, the first version of Rayman that I played was Rayman Advance. Fun game, but man that screen resolution made the game even more difficult. Didn't know it was that bad of a port, amazing run indeed.

I remember reaching the first level of the music zone, and I never fought the real mosquito boss, just the flunky you fight before the auto-scroller.
He got farther in 15 minutes than I did in years as a kid.
Love Rayman for PS1
