Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who took the time to watch my run after the fact. Can find me doing this and other speedruns on my twitch channel www.twitch.tv/glackum . Be sure to follow!
Just wanted to let you know that this is my favorite speedrun of AGDQ ever. I only played this game as a kid but you and Spike were funny, skilled, and explained everything well
An amazing run overall. The commentary from spikevegeta was so good, I knew what glackum did every second thanks to his insanely accurate commentary. Loved it.
Felipe Pereira Yea I also watched the speedrun race of donkey kong country 2 in which he was also one of the commentators and I was just as pleased as with this commentary.
When I was a kid the music in Rayman was absolutely an awakening. And the musical note levels blew my mind. I was completely caught up in the magic that was this game.
I literally watched this entire thing to see whether they'd do the ENTIRE GAME including Mr. Dark in this speedrun because I didn't think it possible. I used to spend 90 minutes on a single level like frigging Bongo Hills back in the day and in the PC version I never made it through Eat at Joe's (1:26:00 once caused my monitor to go dead too, good times). I've only ever managed to beat Rayman 1 on the Gameboy Advance Version which was considerably easier because the invisible triggers are no longer invisible and have tiny glittering cues. I did not thing it was possible to play this game in less than even 2 hours. Good job guys xDD
This guy is a beast in this game, and I couldn't even finish the game. FeelBadMan Also loved the commentary. SpikeVegeta is such a cool guy and you can tell he likes what he is doing.
A speedrun of this game blows my mind. I didn't even get all the cages to get to the last world as a child, and I played it for years. Might as well revisit it.
I have always appreciated the skill speed runners have but this is the first time I realized just how much skill and dedication goes into speed running. I remember playing this game as a kid and I had never got the hair power up. I barley made it bast the second level. It was amazing to watch this thank you
>be me >playing Rayman for the first time since I was a kid >struggle a lot >finally get to Band Land (the part of the game I could never get past) >get my ass kicked a billion times >rage quit >come here and watch someone else destroy the game >sweet satisfaction.jpg >YEAH.mp4
I just finished the game for the 6th time (maybe 7th ?) with 41 lifes, 5 continues and, of course, no cheat at all. I considere myself really good at this game. But holy crap, you're at another level dude. So much respect for you and spikevegeta. Congrats my guys. This game is so awesome.
okay this guy can speedrun rayman 1 that's impressive, but what's the most impressive is the fact that he somehow high fived three people live on stream in a row without messing it up, now 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 is true talent
Great run! I bought the MS-DOS version of this game when it came out. It's a beautiful and well done game, but very challenging. I much enjoyed watching you play it!
fucking hell this game was the hardest ps1 game i've ever played bar none. never even completed it. watching this guy slay it in 1hr is insane. just watching the number of environmental hazards again gives me nightmares.
@mamuburaa In difficulty Cuphead is tutorial mode compared to the bullshit levels of precise you had to be here. This is god reflex required when playing, no wind up, small platforms and things popping in out of nowhere and attacking you and you don't have spontaneous movement it's intentionally delayed for certain actions
Not to be pedantic, but seeing as you have to save all the Elections in order to face Mr Dark and beat the game, wouldn't every Rayman run technically be a 100% run?
Sax% is just beating mr. sax, not completing the game. 100% is the same as any% for this game unless we find some bug one day it would probably be split into two categories.
I wartched this run with headphones on while in the library of my law faculty. Worth taking the break from studying to watch such an amazing run, or to put it in other words: To watch someone destroy my childhood and complete a game in 1:21 while it took me forever as a child.
CherryxCupcake kkim5000 Chiming in. Rayman was the first game I bought from my own money, earned with an actual job. It got insanely hard after the half or so. Still a lot of fun and remembered fondly.
Absolutely hated the spawning of cages, but damn I still really like this game for it's amazing soundtracks and how it looks. Let's put eyes on everything! It worked.
I played this game as a kid, a lot, and I think I got ptsd from it. For some reason every time I see rayman I get this feeling that something is very wrong and that I'm in danger.
I kinda feel you on this, but Rayman gives me a sorta "safe anxiety" feeling- like how a steven king novel (or any horror media) that you remember can give you a safe terror/paranoid feeling. It's like, you remember how it made you feel to experience it, but you know it wasn't real. But still, it gives you this weird, unsettling vibe. Rayman will always give me that weird, disjointed feeling, but I think it's because I respect the game. Not just admire it, or love it, or fear it, but a combination of all three of those feelings- the game makes you respect it because of how damned difficult it is, despite its "soft and harmless" appearance. It draws you in, makes you say, "hey, this ain't so bad, just another simple platformer," then dials it to 11 and freakin' spanks you for not giving it its due respect.
I totally get both these comments, I've never been able to put it into words until just now. Crash bandicoot, spyro the dragon and rayman were the first 3 games my parents got me with my first console THE MIGHTY PS1 and man, those were some good times.
Looking back I have to be pleased with my former self for beating all the levels except the final one as a kid. There was no way I was finding all of the cages
I gotta say it, this was pretty impressive. As a kid, I was never able to finish this game, this has been relieving for that young version of me. I also had so much fun watching it, thank you so much guys, you did a great job.
I first started playing Rayman when I read the postmortem of Rayman Advance. They said they had to make it easier for the Game Boy Advance. I said, how hard is the original game anyway? I saw it at the grocery store for $10 so I picked it up. It is super hard! But I love it.
Bomber Man Fair, fair. As someone that does not run this game, I just have a fondness for silly/humorous strategy names. Speed locking does explain itself in retrospect
Well if it makes you feel better, the term for skipping all the pencil cycles after the set of 5 yin yang balls in pencil pentathlon 2 is called pantsless because that is how some of us pronounced penciless when we tried to say it fast.
it’s because there’s no sign to get back to the world map on the beginning of Mr. Skops’ Stalactites also, as far as I know you’d still have to finish the level otherwise it wouldn’t let you access Mr. Dark’s Dare since the game doesn’t register Mr. Skops’ Stalactites as completed if you death-abuse
You can do the mosquito fight way quicker, you can actually punch him just after he gets out of the dazed animation and essentially farm the hits and he never rises off the top of the screen, not sure why they didn't do that...?
I could never make it passed the Band Lands without the help of cheat codes. Like the commentators mention, this may look like a casual walk, but it's actually one of the most impressive things on the internetXD
This is the first game I ever played on a console. Back in 1999/2000. I always thought the game was super hard and unforgiving with the "Game Over" after running out of lives 3x times
Are there no speedruns for Rayman 2: The Great Escape? That game was my absolute favorite. I loved the dark, mystical and despairful atmosphere in the whole game. It was my introduction to Rayman and I honestly hate all the 2D Raymans. I could never get into them.

Cuphead can't touch this
mamuburaa I played the game 2 years back and I can 100% guarantee, Cuphead can't touch this.
This game is great but also so unfair. I love this game to death but it has serious flaws. But cuphead is also way overrated in my opinion.
@mamuburaa There is no nostalgia. Thats a fact, cuphead cant touch this.
Totally different games. Cuphead is a run'n'gun, this is a platformer.
Not to be pedantic, but seeing as you have to save all the Elections in order to face Mr Dark and beat the game, wouldn't every Rayman run technically be a 100% run?
Yes you need to 100% the game to beat it at all. Hence any%.
Well, 100% is Sax%. In any% you don't kill Mr Sax.
Sax% is just beating mr. sax, not completing the game. 100% is the same as any% for this game unless we find some bug one day it would probably be split into two categories.
Imaltont Huh, you're right, there is no category where you kill Mr Sax other than 'Beat Mr Sax'.
@@Imaltont The any% run could be argued to be different from 100% if you view beating Mr. Sax as a requirement though I guess.

Sick, sick run. But I still don’t understand Why he has to face Mr. Scops instead of death abusing when he got all the sic cages?
it’s because there’s no sign to get back to the world map on the beginning of Mr. Skops’ Stalactites
also, as far as I know you’d still have to finish the level otherwise it wouldn’t let you access Mr. Dark’s Dare since the game doesn’t register Mr. Skops’ Stalactites as completed if you death-abuse
No return sign back out of the level on Eat at Joe’s or Mr Skops Stalactites on PS1. Only PC & its ports have this.
Fifo F. Nah PC has a return sign and you don’t need to fight skops.
ah, yeah that makes sense - if I understood correctly the game only tracks the number of cages collected and not actual level completion
I've played a quarter of this game and got fed up. The amount of trolling just in the first few levels...holy crap.
