- Jonathan Schrantz challenges you to look for key squares. Imagine there are no pieces on the board in a given position; where does the Pawn structure suggest the fight should be? Two professional games and one submission are shown.

Magnus Carlsen vs Vladimir Kramnik, Norway Chess (2016): D35 Queen's Gambit Declined, exchange, positional line, 5...c6
Akiba Rubinstein vs Georg Salwe, Lodz (1908): D33 Queen's Gambit Declined, Tarrasch, Prague variation
Ivan's Submission: C45 Scotch game
I CANNOT GET ENOUGH JONATHAN SCHRANTZ AND BEN FINEGOLD.
been waiting for a class about key squares! Thanks!
I've seen dozens of videos on this channel but this one is already one of top 5 I've seen... 10 minutes in :D
This is really tight! Loving this lesson (even) as a beginner
Lesson I enjoyed much after Minority attack by Yaaser. Keep the great work up :)
Thanks for sharing this lecture.
Bro is so professional, he found the way out of desert and jump right into the lecture.
Stay hydrated man
This dude is just fire! Everything he throws out is amazing!
Brilliant lecture. So informative.
Looking at just the pawn structures is going to be useful for me
Thanks Ivan for the game submitted! My favorite line ever in the Carlsen Kramnik game.
Thank you Jonathan for another brilliant video.
+Paul Morphy Thanks Paul Morphy I'm glad you made a UA-cam account!!
HE LIVES!
My favorite chess instructor!
It sure looks like you have to push the doors not pull them. Big difference
Hey a Ben and gm ken west sighting in the crowd. Love your new series so far Jonathan!
nice video
thanks.
Schrantz's Stupendous Strategy Show. Go epic or go home!
Jeez poor Ivan, you really attacked his game!
They say as you get better you start understanding the game thru squares instead of pieces
Hey Jonathan, could you do an lecture of advance french for black or the very rare kopex system(anti-sicilian)
Can you tell me, which software has been used, to create the diagrams?
Is there a good freeware to do those kind of things? (add arrows and mark squares=
Bravo
The Schrantzmeister!
Prounouncing Kramnik (Crom-nick) Cram-nick made this too funny
I once had Lilja vs Vang Copenhagen 2000 - e4,e5 Nf3,Nc6 Nc3,Nf6 d4,exd Nxd,Nxd QxN,d6 getting to the position - now I played 9. e5! and the game went on 9. -,Ne8 (9. -,dxe Qxe,Bd7 Ne4 where white is better or 9. -,Nd5 BxB,NxB exd,Nf5 Qf4,Nxd Bd3) 10. BxB,QxB Nd5,Qxe QxQ,dxQ Ne7+,Kh8 Rd8 and white is also better :) Thanks for a lot of good videos.
urusov gambit explained plz😢😭
At 8:32 white could play knight d6 check and after the king moves, sac the knight for the b5 pawn wich is te defender of the knight, if pawn takes the knight on b5, bishop takes pawn attacking the knight and after it moves, you win the bishop; winning two pawn and a bishop for a knight, wich is superior to winning a bishop and knight for a rook as in the varition jonathan shows.
hhh i've never thinked of controling a square, thank you
The most important tip of all: 15:19.
"U gotta pull"
Why does everybody hate Kummer? Was he a bad person or are you just bullying him?
+Peto Hutka
I guess because his lectures aren't very good
So, the key square appear when you got destructed opponent's pawn structure?
21:47 Wouldn't
Q×b6 Rxb6
b5
be a good move as well instead of a3?
If he takes with the pawn on a6 , you can checkmate in 3 moves , if he takes with the rook then you can take the a6 pawn with your rook and if he takes with the c6 pawn you can take his rook. If he doesn't take , you can take the a6 pawn with your pawn and then threaten to get your queen back.
If pawn takes on b5 there is no checkmate in 3. If axb5 followed by Ra8, then Bc8 stops the back rank mate as it’s protected by the rook on C7
what program are they using?
Schrantz drinks every 3d second...next time, bring a barrel with water man
Haha so cute when the kid was there xp
Second game, when Bishop takes a6, What if .. Qxa6 ? Rxa6, Rxc5 white looses a bishop and if rook goes back there are no back rank issues what am I missing?
i just want to ask where is mike? is he still at ccscsl? or did he got fired or something
couldnt he also just have pushed the pawn up at 11:06? cuz its either a knight for a pawn vs a knight vs a promoted queen. I mean Obviously the knight d7 is 100% safe but i like white's odds with the pawn push too.
G5 is my favorite square on the board.
or the english symmectrical would be nice (here you have a lot of suggestions pls do at least one of them)

What about O-O-O instead of Kd2 at 6:00?
I'm a new player and i find i'll develop all my pieces and connect my rooks but my opponent will attack with their pawns and i get jammed up in the middle and end up behind after the opening phase. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Attack the base of the pawn chain and exchange your bishops for his Knights especially your bad Bishop
What is the machuco line?
I am intrigued.
Surely Smith based on how he phrased the previous info, I'm assuming the machuko line starts with the pawn attacking the queen while supported by the bishop on the back rank.
thanks that helps

so when an opponent's move doesn't stop your plan ( in the case of Na4 in carlsen-kramnik), does that mean he or she made an inaccuracy ?
Not necessarily--they can have a plan of their own.
Can anyone give an analogy of a construction worker's approach to chess? How could I apply my knowledge of sanding walls or hanging drywall to chess?
Year late but whatev
Chess defense is like defending your house from an attacker, and your king is your foundation. You can get rid of other pieces (queen = roof, bishop = floor tile, etc. In some cases you might have to sacrifice your roof or floor tile so it won't jeopardize your foundation), but you should protect the foundation (king) @ all costs.
On the other end is the attack. Exploit the cracks in his structure. Sometimes all you have to do it pound on it like a sledgehammer, other times expert cunning and wits is needed. But it's all to get at his foundation (checkmate).
Just build chess sets.

It’s not about how much material you use but how much territory you cover 🤷🏻♂️
I do not understand what the Danny Machuca line is? I cannot even make a guess.. LOL
Your name xD
that blaze is a hell of a cute boy ^^ congrats jonathan!
21:40, why didn't white take the a6 pawn?
I think it was because black would exchange queens and then take the pawn on B4. Sure, white gets another pawn, but this isn't the best variation for white, as the black rook gets some activity that compensates for the pawn loss.
Instead of nb6 if he played F5 then ...????
G4 is better than B×h6 sacrifice because black has knight h7 and even though it looks scary white has no compensation
Next time drink the coffee before.
23:00 how is that good for white??
Why not ...Rxa5
Because if you trade rooks, white gets a passed pawn with bxa5 and then it's relatively easy to take it to promotion
Hi
Do all chess teachers from the Saint Louis Chess Club stress their words like Ben Feingold?
I think thats a "Schrantz and Finegold" tendency.
23:58 also Rc8+ is strong
Ok so he is a dad so that explains all the dad noises
I think you need a BA earring on your right ear.
+Holo Cene BA?
+Burnthesof Badass
HEADS UP! if you're using headphones keep volume down, lots of mouth/throat noise.
Are they giving a lecture or oral sex!? :D
@@JezzBowden An oral lecture.
O nu
He looks like Eric Rosen with a beard
What, no un-strategical strategies?
aw blaze is cute
Coule you drink a lot before the lesson. These noises when you drink are awfull.
