I FOUND SOME OLD PAPER WORK THAT SHOWED THE 5.0 WAS A 2011 AND THE ECOBOOST WAS A 2012. I knew they were sequential years just misspoke in the video. Didn’t want to mislead anyone on the years so I added this to the description. Everything else in the video is the same.
Tundra by far the best pickup I’ve ever owned and it’s made to last . It never gets the credit deserves for bulletproof engine and transmission. No cylinder deactivation or turbos to breakdown. Best truck in the 1/2 ton market because it’s over built with heavy duty everything. It’s American made in Texas and has more Americans made parts than any other truck on the market period!
I've had an '05 Tacoma, ,08 FJCruiser, 12 4Runner, '15 Tundra and now an '18 Tundra. I put almost 100,000 miles on each without so much as a blown light bulb! Never touched the brakes and all of them passed the safety inspection when I turned them in without any issues. Changed the crappy tires over to Michelin on every one. That's it.
I had a 2014 Tundra SR5 and I had no problem at all what so ever. Drove it from Houston to NYC and back and to Florida and back. I got to say I felt very comfortable and safe.
I bought my Tundra new in 2007. Still own it with over 100,000 miles. It has NEVER been in the shop for anything other than a recall on the gas pedal. It’s still running as strong as the day I bought it and I tow a 32’ travel trailer with it regularly. I’ve owned Fords and Dodge Rams and this is by far the best truck I’ve ever owned.
I own a 2017 f150. Had to change my steering rack twice and now theyre going to change my transfer case. The 4x4 system keeps on disabling. Shouldve bought a tundra.
Ali Alzaabi When I left the Ford dealer they said they couldn’t find anything wrong and it was fixed. I fixed it by getting a Tundra. Can’t go wrong with a Toyota. 👍
I have a 2011 TRD Rock Warrior with the 5.7. The truck has been super reliable. I currently have 236,000 miles on it and have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. Lots of confidence for Toyota.
I completely agree with you , my parents had a Ford and it was in the shop all the god damn time , but I bought a Toyota Tundra used about two years ago , it’s a 2007 and I use it for my job and it almost has 200k miles and I’ve never taken it to the mechanic besides basic maintenance, it runs smooth as hell , best truck you can get
Gear Runner trust me brother , as long as you take good care of it , it’ll last you for MANY years , glad you’re smart , all my friends have Fords and talk shit about my tundra but I’m never at a mechanic while they go to it all the time 🤷🏾♂️😂
Update , I just bought my self a new 2018 Toyota Tundra , the dealership threw in free custom leather black leather seats with red diamond stitching so far the truck is great , Toyota for life
Thanks for sharing your story regarding Ford customer service. As someone who’s been riding the fence on buying either a Ford F-150 or Toyota Tundra, your story has made my decision to choose the Toyota Tundra for my next truck. Thanks again.
Just sorry you went through that. Thanks for posting. Just bought my Tundra and I love it. Looking through F150 stuff for a relative and landed on your video. Just gripping stuff. Keep posting and thanks for your insight. Might save someone’s life.
Thanks for the update! This was a very helpful video for me. I have a 2014 Tundra Limited with 90,000 miles and always wondered about the F150. Nice looking truck for sure, but I've heard several bad things about them. The only reason I have had my Tundra in the shop is the the scheduled maintenance. Thanks for taking the time to share your story.
Glenn Childs Thank you and you are welcome. From what I’ve heard about the Tundras you still should have many more years of trouble free mileage left to go. 👍
I'm afraid as long as the sheep continue to be brand loyal, Ford will have no incentive to improve the quality and reliability of their products. This is why competition is always good for the consumers. But I fear Ford won't do a thing because their sales of the F-series trucks are so strong that losing a few hundred customers is nothing to them.
Novice MTBer I really believe this is exactly why they really don’t care. Government sales is probably enough that they don’t car if they lose a couple hundred a year.
It’s not just Ford. Ram and GM too. Toyota is conservative and doesn’t update often. They are also never first to bring out new technologies. The result is more conservative vehicle, slower to release new gadgets but SUPER RELIABLE. You don’t know until you’ve owned one long term. I have a sienna minivan. It’s 10 years old used hard with family of 5 and many road trips. Only ONE problem in 10 years!!! Oil sensor. That’s it. From Montreal!
if toyotas are super reliable..then why did they and not ford gm or chrysler get the worlds largest fine in automotive history ???..i mean besides vw now
390merc 66 well. To the best of my recollection they got fined for not doing a recall fast enough and trying to hide it I believe during a couple of years. 8!years ago I think. Some bad decisions by a few individuals who are no longer there. That doesn’t negate the factual long term studies of the cars. Check any independent auto consumer list. They all have Toyota as first. The largest consumer protection survey is Consumer Reports. Their surveys provide the largest data IN NORTH AMERICA from the owners themselves. Toyota and Alexus are always first.
you are right about why they got fined and also got fined for knowingly hiding ,,and destroying safety documents ...jd powers ranks the ford f150 most reliable truck you can buy...and didnt consumer reports just downgrade the mighty tacoma to just [ average??] .....isnt mr toyoda still there?..isnt he ultimately responsible for all of his products?....does consumer reports have any ranking on how toyota treats its workers in its own plant in japan and how they run the place like a natzi prison camp??? i like high quality leather seats...but i bet if most ppl seen how cows are beater, tortured and skinned for their skin..most would not want leather seats .....consumer reports will not tell you what a scumbag of a car company toyota really is..or maybe they dont even know them selves ....my family has owned fords since ww2..in all those years they did pretty well ..is ford perfect?,,hell no...but i have been around toyotas since the mid 80's and i could care less what c/r tells you ..ask an ex loyal toyota buyer [ my mother in law] how good some of here top quality toyotas were...and yes she bought everyone new for 20+ years
390merc 66 JD power’s surveys are a joke. Who cares how well they do in the first 3 years. ANY manufacturer can do well in the first 3 years. It’s not revealing at all. As for the other stuff, not sure how you are an expert on their plants it Japan or how they cultivate their leather...you have gone WAY over board here....
James Buff Toyota still have parts built overseas and in Europe. They outsource a lot of their technology. Soon they will with the Tundra too. They are more invested in their small and mid size vehicles. They got rid of all their toyota sports car line to invest into Lexus. You can bet the Tundra if it gets remodel will be outsourced by another brand engine like the scion/ Subaru Brz and supra/ Bmw.
KHLegend Tundra isn’t far behind. Toyota invest as much as they do into their truck line as sports car. Toyota is far more invested in Lexus now that they are rated best selling in the same class as Mercedes and BMW. Have you heard the new rumor about where Toyota is going with the Tundra? Turbo hybrid truck. That’s two times the problem.
Lokkstar Productions nowadays most new cars and trucks aren’t gonna be reliable because of the pressure of the EPA forcing manufacturers to do whatever they can to get good gas mileage...
Have owned 3 F150s. A 96 5.0. A 2006 5.4 and a currently a 2016 5.0. I've never have any issue with my trucks, other than scheduled maintenance. Both the 2006 and 2016 were bought brand new. Sorry to hear about all of your issues. Glad the Tundra is working out for you.
Walmer06 Thank you. I really liked the look and power of my Ecoboost. I would probably still have it if it weren’t for all the issues I had with it. Hope you continue to have good luck with your Fords. 👍
This was one of the best most honest sounding reviews that I have heard and was glad to hear it because I was considering an F-150 but not if the corporation acts like that. I got the same treatment with a similar dangerous limp mode interstate problem with a brand new Jeep Cherokee which was the worst POS ever accompanied by the worst corporate attitude ever from FCA. Once you have a dangerous vehicle and the company ignores the issue, I say screw them. Never again buy their crappy products. Thanks!
John Strand I totally agree. I couldn’t believe how they just didn’t seem to care one way or the other. It really blew my mind. I will never own another F150. It’s sad because I really liked the truck to.
Buy the old trusty 5.7L tundra. Toyota is coming out with a Turbo Hybrid Tundra from what rumors say. It will have problems like the Ford Ecoboost if they do run the production. Nothing beats all motor.
Great story, glad you ended up in a good truck. I used a website called car complaints to look at reported issues on vehicles when I was shopping for my truck. The 2016+ 1/2 tons with the least issues, by the numbers, were tundras and the GM twins. Ended up with a Silverado 5.3 and it has served me well so far (almost 40k miles since I bought it in Jan ‘18). It’s up to us as customers/owners to keep these manufacturers accountable- any one of them is capable of making a good, reliable vehicle.
I have to say this...OMG!!! I came within hours of purchasing a 2018 F150, but out of respect (so I thought) for a good friend, I rescheduled my appointment and went to Toyota to test drive the Tundra. I drove home with the Tundra and now I know it was Divine Intervention. I’ve only had my 2018 XP Crew for 3 weeks and I have heard 3 stories about major transmission issues with the F150. After patiently waiting for ownership of my first truck, having driven SUVs for many years, nothing worst could have happened to me. Thank you for sharing. I am so loving and enjoying my Tundra now, it is time to get my head screwed back on so that I will stop spending so much time watching videos about the vehicle. It’s happy love I guess!😊💝
Dr. W. Octavia MalVeaux Dent You definitely made the right decision to go with the Tundra. I had so many issues out of both my F150’s. Ford needs to get it together before the get left behind.
@@gearrunner Left behind or catching up...I am a Toyota truck loyalist for life. I truly believe, if its not broken don't even attempt to fix it! My highest hopes for Toyota with regard to the truck is that they improve the fuel economy, without sacrificing performance and put factory locking fuel doors on its truck line. Those two things won't break the deal for me, would only make me happier.
I got my Tundra after I put 450k miles on my 4runner. So I needed a truck when I went to work for myself . I didnt figure I wanted to break down or have my work truck in the shop most the time. Sooo I got the 5.7 Tundra and now have 200k and I've just had to replace the alternator. That's the only thing I've done in all the hard ass miles I've put on my tundra. Because I drive like a maniac . Yep that's why I think I feel I believe Toyota makes the best most dependable trucks.
Thanks for the honest video. I'm buying a Tundra at the end of this year, and can't wait. New subscriber😎. All we buy are Toyotas and never had an issue
Matt Schmitzer Thank you for subscribing. I will never go back to Ford. To many issues. I think you will love the new Tundra. My next upgrade video series will be changing all the exterior lights to LED. Well except the turn signals, they require a resistor or something to trick the computer and I’m not fully comfortable with that. I’d hate for something to short out later.
I have a 2013 F-150 5.0. Never have had any issues with it, but I am never buying another f-150 after this one. I’m gonna buy a Tundra for my next truck.
Glad you and your family are safe!!! That’s really sad man to be honest I’m a die hard Toyota/ Lexus fan only and I was considering buying a 2018 lararite f150 only because of the features and options it offered over the tundra, but after watching your video I’m convinced I’ll likely regret it I’m going to stick with what I know best and that’s the Toyota Tundra thanks for your informative video man!!
The Tundra is a awesome truck. I've ridden in one for several hours and the seats were really comfortable. When I get a truck it'll be a Tundra hands down! 👍
The seats are designed specially for the wide American ass. Why do you think the Japanese make better trucks than Americans , do you think its because 'muricans are less intelligent .
Back in 2011, told myself I was going to buy a ecoboost F150 after my 1997 4Runner died. 100,000 miles later, the 4runner(a.k.a Red Rooster) still lives and runs great. Over the 21 years, I've only had to replace the starter and rear axle seal. My friend's F150 had problems. He traded it in for a Tundra. When I bought my 2018 Tundra, the dealer asked if I wanted to trade in the 4Runner. I told him "that car is like family, my wife and kids will cry if I it trade in".
I’d never own another ford. Nothing but Toyota’s. Bought my first Tacoma a few years ago. Traded it for a 2016 4runner. Family needed the space. Best decision ever. Won’t be long and I’m buying my first Tundra. Can’t wait!
Your Tundra is an awesome truck. If Toyota is still building them well, you'll enjoy a long happy life with it. I bought a new Tundra Limited Extended cab in 2001. I had originally planned to keep it 3 yrs, then sell it and move on. Man, I fell in love with that Tundra. It had the 4.7 DOHC V8 and NEVER broke down on me. Just did the regular maintenance and she continued to perform flawlessly. Unfortunately, exactly one year ago as I was driving down the road a lady ran a stop sign and t-boned me. Needless to say, my beloved Tundra was totaled. I owned it for exactly 16 years and put 206,000 trouble-free miles on the clock. The only knock I had on it was that the paint began to fade at year 12, but no big deal as the truck itself was bulletproof. Congrats on your new Tundra. Again, hope she serves you well and keeps an ear-to-ear grin on your face for years to come. Oh yeah...man, you've got a cool Southern accent. I live in Texas..the accent here's a little different. Merry Christmas!!
I was always a ford owner most of my life. I had a F150 with electrical issue. Where all the light would go off. It got to the point where I could only drive during the day. I got tired it was in the shop a total of 14 times in 2 months. Ford never fixed it and I traded for a Tundra never have I looked back. I am happy and I will never own a ford ever again. It’s sad they know that they have issue but they will never admit it.
Joaquin -Jack Nava I totally agree Jack it is sad. They didn’t even really seem to care about my issues as Ford corporate. My dealership did but there was nothing they could do. I’m with you no more Fords for me.
Joaquin -Jack Nava your issue was with the dealership, not Ford. Sounds like you should've went to different dealerships if they weren't getting your issue taken care of.
Gear Runner probably should've pushed for a buy back or lemon law. If it was in the shop as much as you said it shouldn't have been a issue. I hate to hear people have in issues, but at the same time, vehicles are mostly built by humans and that is why there are warranties. If you havent already guessed, I work for Ford. Been building Super Duty's, Expedition, and Navigator's for twenty years. I know first hand what Ford does and has done to bring quality up from the time I started there. When you have a company that sells over 900k trucks a year, you're gonna hear more stories about people having issues compared to a company that sells 50k trucks a year. That's a HUGE difference. I have a 2017 Explorer Sport with the 3.5 Ecoboost. I've had it for 14 months and has put 30,000 miles on it with zero issues.
Pennywise I took my pickup to 3 different dealerships they can’t all be wrong. Ford knew about the problem. They just passed the phone or took messages for callbacks and never did a thing to fix it. I did what was best for me i traded it in for a Toyota Tundra.
I had a 2012 Ford Ecoboost. It ate timing chains, stalled just like yours, and eventually a turbo failed and sent metal into the engine. I traded it in for a 2014 Silverado with the 6.2 and never looked back. I have more miles on this truck than the F-150 and haven't had to do a thing besides change oil and rotate tires.
That was well done sir. I’m going to sound bias and yes I am. I have owned Toyota’s for years. I’m on my second Tundra (17’ 19K) luv it still and you really cant go wrong
One my 5th Toy Truck... Undergrad with a 1980 Short bed... Married my wife with 1984 Long Bed... finished a 30 year teaching career with a 2007 Access Cab long bed, went to trade school with a 2010 SR5, now running sniper matches with my 2017 TRD Off Road Access Cab. My kids get all my retired Taco trucks. Cheers
Hey Gear Runner , Saw your video and bought a 2018 Tundra TRD Sport. Absolutely Love this truck. My GMC Duramax left my stranded 250 miles from home. It only had 104.000 miles on it ,the injectors went along with the injector pump $$$. No more GMC for me. I've also owned 2 Fords I'm all done with them. And I was looking at the Fords till I saw your video. My Toyota's never give me any issues. Thanks for the heads up and the Video.
Thank you for this review. I have told my wife for over a year I wanted to pull the trigger on a Tundra TRD. I believe every word you and several others have said. Thanks again.
I feel you brother. My first truck was a 2005 sport trac I got when I was 16. First thing was the heater was out. Got fixed. Then the solenoid. 6 months later radiator and thermostat housing. Brakes replaced. 1 year later ball joints. Fast forward another year, power steering pump was leaking which dealership never ordered and the entire truck violently shook while driving down the road. This ended up ruining a drive belt and the dealership had to replace at it at their cost. Brakes again. A year after that wheel bearings, brakes, radiator and thermostat, electric issue with turn signals, about $1900 worth of stuff. Only for 6 months later, the motor was leaking oil and the transmission was going out. By that point it had about 4-5 grand worth of stuff done to it. I was 20 and ended getting a 2002 Camry. Best car I ever owned till it was totaled.
Malik Pollock Yea I had so many issues with my 2 F150s I just don’t think I could ever own another Ford. Luckily all mine was covered under warranty but still it’s just the hassle of doing without your vehicle for all that time that you are still making payments on.
I got 129K miles on my 2008 Tundra Limited CrewMax 4x4 red leather interior. Still worth about $28K and drives just like day one. Only thing its ever needed is a water pump, which leaked under my extended warranty. Replaced the alternator and starter 10k miles ago. I take it hunting, and use the 4x4 all the time. It has no problem pulling an RV or boat. Just waiting for them to put a diesel motor on the new Tundras, maybe by 2020. : ))
My father has a first generation tundra. 300k miles so far with zero problems. Only standard maintenance; i.e. fluids, filters, plugs, brakes. About half of those miles were towing. And he often pulls a boat that actually barely exceeds the towing capacity. I'm seriously impressed with toyota's quality and will be getting the next generation when it comes out. Toyotas have less fancy technology in them, it's true, but I like that about them. I don't want to pay for tons of electronic features I'll never use and will eventually go bad.
I have also owned a 2011 f-150 with the v-8, I put 28k on it with not one single problem, but now I own a toyota truck and the confidence you feel on its reliability is extraordinary. This is a truck you can keep for 20 years with a smile and courage you could never hope for in a Ford. Fyi, I traded the f-150 while it was still worth money, I lost 18k in 2 years, with the low miles, I almost could have got my money back on the toyota with the same scenario.
I like how Chevy, Ford and just now Subaru has been calling Toyota and each other out saying they're better, Toyota hasn't called anyone out and they are still at the top.....Toyota all the way baby
Ive grown up with a 2001 Chevy Suburban with 170,000 miles. All it has ever gotten replaced is a water pump. You really cant go wrong with Chevy or Toyota in my experience.
My first truck was a dodge Dakota and it was nothing but problems so I traded it in for a Tacoma and I had no problems with it. When my 4 yr lease was up I got my 2010 tundra and it has 265,000 km on it and the only thing that broke was a leaf spring on one side probably from over loading it because I used it for work everyday. I love my tundra and I’m gonna drive it as long as it lasts
Great video and thanks for your story. I love my 2012 TUNDRA CREWMAX PLATINUM. 80k and not one issue except for my sunroof motor dying. Big deal. A sunroof motor won’t kill my family. The iforce 5.7 is a killer engine. It’s fast, reliable, tons of torque. It’s comparable to all the new 2019 models coming out right now (minus the mpg) but I’ll gladly pay the 2mpgs for the most reliable truck engine out there.
this video on how and why tundra is better has changed my mind, please keep doing more videos on anything tundra related as it is needed and insightful.
Good video. For anyone reading, I've owned a 2007 Tundra Crewmax 4x4 Limited since new. It's been paid off for about 7 years, and I now have 325,000 km on it (202,000 miles). Still pretty much runs and drives like new. Only things ever fixed were replaced rear leaf springs, replaced radiator, replaced tailgate latch assembly. Besides that, a couple batteries, tires, brakes, and winshields. Everything still works as it should. Burns basically no oil, and I run the cheap, non-synthetic stuff in it (and often run way over my km between changes). Drive lots of stop and go city, tons of gravel, in harsh (-30C) winters, haul tools and heavy lumber, and a travel trailer - sometimes off road. In other words, this truck has been driven, not babied. People are stunned when they find out it's age and mileage. Buy Toyota trucks. Period.
The Tundra is awesome for sure. As you know I did the Texas trip and had no issues. I also had two new F150’s and both had transmission issues. Nothing as bad as what you experienced...but very annoying!!!!
I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma with nearly 500k miles on it (mostly highway miles). Not a single problem besides keeping up with oil changes, tires and breaks.
Noe Duran That is awesome, I’ve heard about a lot of stories of Toyota trucks with a lot of miles on them but so far yours is the most. Stories like this really gives me a lot of confidence in my decision to buy a Toyota. Thank you.
Congrats i have a 2015 Tacoma trd off road. I purchased it had 25 miles. Looking forward to getting 3 or 4 hundred thousand. Really love this truck.i have 58000 miles now.
2004 Toyota 4 runner 4.0v6 306000 miles doesn't burn any oil or leak at all I couldn't be more happy with it the rear end did go out at 292000 I do a lot of towing with the old girl she had the bearings replace spider gears are still stock in the rear end and its been back on the road for over 10k with no issues Toyota builds a danm good vehicle
just found a 6spd manual 2018 Tacoma TRD in Arizona last week, love it on and off road!!! owned Fords and Chevys and an older Tacoma and older Tundra.I will never go back to Ford or Chevy!!!! I do a lot of off-roading way back in the mountains don't know why but the Toyota's 4 wheel drive systems always engages and works no matter the age or mileage never seen a fuel pump go out on one neither. All the stupid s*** intake gaskets, front ends , transmissions ect thats go out on these American brands never going back.
i test drove a tundra and it hesitated bad...went and got a new f150 70 grand! 450 hp ecoboost and have no trouble at all! love the full panoramic moon roof! the 10 speed auto is a beast! and the duel injection is awesome! has port and direct injection. i pull a horse trailer and it dont even feel like its back there. i dont know what happen to yours but the new 18 raptor is one hell of a pickup!
I bought my daughter a brand new 2013 Mustang. At 23K Miles, the radiator hose had some back flow problem (known issue to Ford and dealership). It caused my water pump to fail. The dealership made me pay for the water pump because a faulty hose caused it even though the hose was defective from the factory. This pissed me off to go nuclear and I traded the Ford POS in on a Toyota RAV4 for her and life has been great 63K Miles and counting. I will never buy another Ford and nor will my children all because of a $500 water pump. BTW, I now own 5 Toyota’s.
Believe it or not,i rented a 2011,mustang in vegas and in ca brakes locked up at 60mph after i washed the car,i hit another car just glad it wasnt few miles later or id be flying down the mountain.
Recently sold a 2016 Ford Fusion car with turbo problems for an 11 year old Lexus GX470 (Same engine as the older tundras) and have zero issues! I understand exactly what you mean with the reliability on these trucks. Great video👍
Yes, it was mostly flat terrain so gears weren't shifting as much causing higher rpm's changing your fuel economy every area will be different some better some worse
A lot of people have been screwed by Ford, and we need to continue putting the word out. Tundra's are freaking bullet proof, I still have my 2006 Limited Tundra with Zero issues.
Appreciate the video brother! Very thorough and well explained. I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through all of that hustle and putting your and close one's lives at risk with Ford. I got to say Toyota is the largest auto manufacturer in the world for a reason. People buy their products because they're proven and reliable. I just got me a 2017 Toyota Tacoma Off-Road despite the fact how people try to talk trash about its mpg, price, lack of features or whatnot. I bought Toyota because I want to be able to enjoy my ride and have it without problems when I need it. I'm glad that you're enjoying your problem-free life with your Tundra. I wish you well and I hope you will not experience those horrible situations with your current ride.
I have a Tundra CrewMax 2010, TRD 4x4 Off Road. I have never had a mechanical problem. We have been in the desert, a lot of snow, a couple of storms, in all these opportunities camping and the Tundra responding excellently. It is true that we would like him to spend less on gasoline or to have some technological updates, if he really needed them, but, as it is, it has been an excellent car that we would not change for anything. In addition, it is made in the USA.
03 Tacoma checking in here. 250k miles and the only issue I've ever had was a bad spark plug that made the 5th cylinder misfire. 24mpg, tows everything I need, looks good, etc etc. Toyota makes reliable vehicles that hold their value like crazy. I'll probably never buy domestic again.
Sam Gillespie That’s awesome. Congratulations. I really do believe Toyota makes the most reliable vehicles. I can’t believe how well they hold their value.
These Tundra videos and research convinced me in 2016 to buy a 2017 Tundra. Truly love it after years of GMC "quality" issues. Sounds like Ford has similar problems. Thanks for helping keep folks informed...too bad you made someone cry at Ford.
Leland Franklin Thank you. I hope I helped someone make a decision either way. I still love my Tundra more each day. I’ve hurt some feelings that’s for sure.
Leland Franklin it’s funny but I see the very opposite, the tundra might last a few days, the ford and dodge a bit longer, but the only truck without fail on the pipeline ROW that survives and just keeps on going is the chev. You can abuse them day in, day out and they are always ready for more. The tundra drivers spend more time in rentals than their own trucks, ford and dodge owners are a constant dropout, the only reliable make has been the chev. If your a girlie man that pavement crawls I am sure it’s fine, but come play with the men and you will be sitting looking stupid with a broken truck.
letserb I have tons of friends that off road there tundras a lot here in TN. In case you don’t know about TN we have tons of mountains and off road terrain. Not one of my friends have ever had any issues with their trucks. Ever!
Be that as it may I have yet to see one last a full week on the ROW? They are just incapable of surviving the demands we put on a truck. Not that ford or dodge is all that much better. I have been in run off water to the tops of my wheels the chev never misses a beat. The inspectors running the tundra never sets foot on our site, he can not get there LOL girlie trucks is all they are.

Good choice, Toyota Tundra is a great truck. I personally have the 2919 TRD Pro, love it. I use to drive a GMC Duramax and my GMC went into limp mode when one of my igniter for the DEF system went out. They fixed it and all was good. Then it happened again about 2500 miles later, got rid of it right there. My son was driving a Tundra and said, you might consider a Tundra, haven't looked back since.
Eh, turbocharged engines are better, also more complex, but it matters who makes them. Ford obviously doesn't do turbocharged engines well. I myself have a 1999 saab with a turbo 4 and have had NO issues with the intake system or the motor, just age related like hoses and failing ac compressor and what not. But saab knows how to build turbo engines because they had been doing it from the 70s, and man, nothing could kill those old turbo saabs! And turbos arent unreliable either, im still on my original. Just the right oil at the right times makes all the difference
Thanks. I have a 2001 Tundra and love it. Outside regular maintenance and wear only thing that broke in 17 years was two bad Oxygen sensors. About $150 to replace...so in 17 years only $300 in unplanned repair costs! The Tundra is more comfortable to drive long distance than my wife's BMW. About 14 years in it started to get a little noisy as the door rubbers started to harden and not seal as good. I kept it for 17 years because it's still a great truck. Thinking about a new one and was considering Ford for their EcoBoost. Maybe I'll just get another Tundra. The ride is so good it feels like you are in a luxury sedan. I think most new trucks have great comfort these days. I remember growing up with a Jeep truck and giving all my internal organs a rough massage on every long ride :)
Your testimony reinforced the fact that domestic made trucks such as Ford, GM, Chrysler and so forth are not reliable vehicles and they are expensive. I have driven Ford, Dodge and Chevy vehicles at work and they spend time at the shop frequently for repairs (not maintenance). Many of them were pulled out of service and auctioned off before 100,000 miles because it got too expensive to keep them on the road. Many of them may have more HP,Torque , and cool gadgets than Tundras in the book as long they function and operable. Be safe!
I agree with the payload capacity, however our handyman is on his third Tundra. He has two custom diamond plate tool boxes, a ton of tools. Ladder framed with two full sized ladders and he has no problems.🤔
Love my Toyota Tundra! It's my 2nd one. The first one was fabulous, never anything wrong with it. Just needed an upgrade for towing. So glad I bought a Tundra
I personally believe that Ford reverse engineers their vehicles to need many expensive repairs. Their mantra should be: Vehicles for show - repairs for dough.
Actually you are correct. To an extent all major manufacturing companies study MTBF (Mean time between failure) and engineer products to last a certain life span. They consider overbuilding them to be too costly and build them just well enough to last through their designated life span and meet minimum customer requirements. Engineers make great designs, then bean counters come in and cut corners.
I own a F150 eco 13 it's in the shop now went into limp mode I pulled out in a major hwy almost got rear ended another time it happened as I was going across a railroad track, I think mine is the speed output sensor or lead frame.
I had the same problem with my parents’ Ford Escape. It is scary. Yeah, I just bought a new Tundra. Thanks for the video. It helped me make the decision.
Damn sorry you had a terrible experience, my dad has a 2015 f250 king ranch, got it brand new and right now it has 40k miles and no problems at all. I guess things just happen. And nice tundra, wish you the best of luck with it.
Complexity Thank you. Yea I really liked my Ford and would still have it if it weren’t for all those issues. I hope your dad as good luck with his ford as well. 👍
You know, a lot I think has to do with that ecoboast engine. My family has a good sized ranch here in Texas, and we have several Ford trucks that just go and go, but they do not have turbo motors. That being said, guess who drives a Toyota... ;)
No brother. I was raised in Myrtle Beach SC, and spent 20 years in Houston TX. I enjoyed your accent. On Thursday I drove a new Tundra and was seriously considering a F150. I was put off by the Tundra's ridiculously horrid gas mileage. Which engine do you have and how much MPG do you experience?
Lester Suggs Sorry I misunderstood. I’ve had so many comments making fun of me being from the south that I automatically think that’s what comments mean now. Sorry again. I really like Myrtle Beach I’m about 5 hours from m there. I have the 5.7 but my gas mileage is affected by my 35x12.50r20 tires. I get around 13.5 to 14mpg. I have a buddy that has a stock Tundra that gets around 16 - 16.5mpg on the hwy. I will tell you my ecoboost only got 17.5-18 on the hay though.
What state do you live in?
Good info. I have no regrets that I sold my F150 4x4.
mixflip Me neither. 👍
Tundra by far the best pickup I’ve ever owned and it’s made to last . It never gets the credit deserves for bulletproof engine and transmission. No cylinder deactivation or turbos to breakdown. Best truck in the 1/2 ton market because it’s over built with heavy duty everything. It’s American made in Texas and has more Americans made parts than any other truck on the market period!
matt gray The reliability is the main reason that I bought mine. Like it more every time I drive it.
That's it.
mrvoyagerm Wonder why car manufacturers can’t just put on a decent set of tires from the factory???
My 2020 came with Michelin's :)
I had a 2014 Tundra SR5 and I had no problem at all what so ever. Drove it from Houston to NYC and back and to Florida and back. I got to say I felt very comfortable and safe.
VICTOR M I drive this truck to Florida several times a year. Around a. 1300 mike trip. I feel very safe in it.
You can’t beat reliability and quality. Toyota runs in our family, my father still drive his 97 corolla with 380k miles
A Orkiks That’s a lot of mile and I hope to get that many out of my Tundra.
D3viouz1 Yea I have friends with Toyota’s they have tried to kill as well. The cars are all still running to. 😂
Thats not reliability and quality. Thats your father being a cheap fuck
@@johnnydanger1305 Sounds like a smart individual with a reliable and durable vehicle.
If not celica, go home
I own a 2017 f150. Had to change my steering rack twice and now theyre going to change my transfer case. The 4x4 system keeps on disabling. Shouldve bought a tundra.
Ali Alzaabi When I left the Ford dealer they said they couldn’t find anything wrong and it was fixed. I fixed it by getting a Tundra. Can’t go wrong with a Toyota. 👍
I have a 2017 with no issues. About 30k miles so far.
Ali Alzaabi lemon law buy back.
leo ll I don’t think we have that here. It’s a state by state law.
@@Treyk901.. let us know when you reach 200,000 miles......
I never thought I’d love my Toyota vehicle as much as I do. Now we have nothing but Toyota’s in the driveway. Good choice my man. 🤙🏼
I have a 2011 TRD Rock Warrior with the 5.7. The truck has been super reliable. I currently have 236,000 miles on it and have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. Lots of confidence for Toyota.
Robert Russell That’s exactly why I went with Toyota this time. 👍
I'm 6'5/ 315 and the Tundra is the most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned and driven.
Brett OBerry I’m the same height and I totally agree. There’s so much room in this truck. 👍
Thanks for your comment I'm 6ft and feel cramped in alot of vehicles. I'm debating between a Chevy Silverado and Tundra
Loose some weight
I completely agree with you , my parents had a Ford and it was in the shop all the god damn time , but I bought a Toyota Tundra used about two years ago , it’s a 2007 and I use it for my job and it almost has 200k miles and I’ve never taken it to the mechanic besides basic maintenance, it runs smooth as hell , best truck you can get
Erick Escobar That’s exactly why I went with the Tundra. 👍
Gear Runner trust me brother , as long as you take good care of it , it’ll last you for MANY years , glad you’re smart , all my friends have Fords and talk shit about my tundra but I’m never at a mechanic while they go to it all the time 🤷🏾♂️😂
Erick Escobar Thank you and that’s why I have a Tundra got tired of going to the mechanics. 👍
Erick Escobar I'm a Tundra owner ua-cam.com/video/1HnokrriP_c/v-deo.html
Update , I just bought my self a new 2018 Toyota Tundra , the dealership threw in free custom leather black leather seats with red diamond stitching so far the truck is great , Toyota for life
Thanks for sharing your story regarding Ford customer service. As someone who’s been riding the fence on buying either a Ford F-150 or Toyota Tundra, your story has made my decision to choose the Toyota Tundra for my next truck. Thanks again.
John Doe I love my Tundra and have never regretted going with Toyota. 👍
John Doe Same here, been on the fence but I really think I’m going Toyota! Thanks Gear Runner for the videos!
Good choice going with the Tundra. I know two people who’ve had that intercooler problem with their F150’s as well and it freaked them out too.
Dave's Randoms - Toyota Trucks & Travel Yea it’s a very awful feeling when it happens. Especially when your on a busy interstate.
Just sorry you went through that. Thanks for posting. Just bought my Tundra and I love it. Looking through F150 stuff for a relative and landed on your video. Just gripping stuff. Keep posting and thanks for your insight. Might save someone’s life.
James Carroll Thank you. I don’t know why large companies like this doesn’t care more about their customers.
man thats really gonna light a fire lol im sure a lot of people will appreciate your honesty thanks for the heads up
Yea Mike I put on my thick skin for the comments to come! Lmao
Fk what they like it’s people like this that get them to change stuff 😀
scubadivingsince2006 Very true. If more people spoke up they couldn’t ignore big issues like this.
MrBury74 That’s awesome that it’s done so well. I would rather have low tech that be in the shop all the time any day of the week.
if toyotas are super reliable..then why did they and not ford gm or chrysler get the worlds largest fine in automotive history ???..i mean besides vw now
390merc 66 well.
Also a Tundra is more American than a F-150 as well, LOL.
Lokkstar Productions those are sports cars and the tundra isn’t one
KHLegend Tundra isn’t far behind. Toyota invest as much as they do into their truck line as sports car. Toyota is far more invested in Lexus now that they are rated best selling in the same class as Mercedes and BMW. Have you heard the new rumor about where Toyota is going with the Tundra? Turbo hybrid truck. That’s two times the problem.
Lokkstar Productions nowadays most new cars and trucks aren’t gonna be reliable because of the pressure of the EPA forcing manufacturers to do whatever they can to get good gas mileage...
The F-150 is a higher percentage American made than the Tundra... lol
I've owned a GM all my life, Toyota Tundra is my next buy
David Mayeux You can’t go wrong there. It’s a great truck. 👍
I love the Toyota Tundra and I hope that I will drive this truck for practically the rest of my life
Buy the old trusty 5.7L tundra. Toyota is coming out with a Turbo Hybrid Tundra from what rumors say. It will have problems like the Ford Ecoboost if they do run the production. Nothing beats all motor.
I left the repair shop with my Chevy told them dont worry about. I will be driving a Tundra by the end of day. I am liking my 2020 Tundra so far.
Tundra owner since 2010 and it’s still kicking stronger then ever. Love my tundra and it will get driven till the wheels fall off!
eric hernandez I feel the same way I love my Tundra. Best truck I’ve ever driven. 👍
well that wont be to long
390merc 66 would you stop trolling through the comments. We get it you like fords, but stfu seriously.
Jakerton97 _ 👍
Gear Runner new subscriber, love the vids. Beautiful truck, I wanted a tundra so bad, but fresh outa college and opted with the Tacoma.
Toyota's hold up better than the Chevy's and Ford trucks that I've owned. They just need to build a 1 ton Tundra.
Earl That would be a pretty cool truck. Especially if they put a diesel in it.
Toyota does build heavy haulers, but they are not sold in the US market.
1 ton toyota truck, i sure there a way to import 'hilux' from south American..
You need a hilux
Yes I agree.
Dr. W. Octavia MalVeaux Dent I totally agree with that. 👍
You traded a Ford for a Tundra, smart man
paw craw Owens Thank you. Best move I ever made.
kiki the gerbil And you seen how dominant they were
kiki the gerbil True but unlike the T Rex the Tundra is still here, and like the T Rex it’s still dominating on reliability
kiki the gerbil I never finance through the dealership!!!!
kiki the gerbil I never pay cash and I got around 2.8 or so on mine at my bank. The dealer was around 4 I think
Michael Deerdoff I’m with you I believe they do. I had a 4Runner years ago and loved it also.
Joe Neumann You will love the Tundra. I’ve never missed either of my F150s since trading.
Rebel Rouser it better be or Rob and I will come ask you what you was thinking. Lol
lol I'm lucky to have you and Rob to keep my head straight. 😂
Rebel Rouser You are lucky. 😂😂
WalksWithPanda I had a 1998 4Runner and loved it as well. So I totally understand that. I had a lot of issues with both my Fords.
My 2013 is starting to give me electrical problems now. I'm seriously thinking of trading it in on a Tundra. Thx for the honest video.
BIG ERN That’s exactly what I did. You are very welcome. I hope it helped you make up your mind. 👍
I’d never own another ford. Nothing but Toyota’s. Bought my first Tacoma a few years ago. Traded it for a 2016 4runner. Family needed the space. Best decision ever. Won’t be long and I’m buying my first Tundra. Can’t wait!
Daniel Dehay My Tundra is the best vehicle that I’ve ever owned. You won’t regret buying one. 👍
Pennywise I had a ton of electrical issues with my first 5.0 F150. Ford tried like crazy to fix it multiple times. They could never get if fixed.
The tundra is a beast of a truck. My 2008 has 250k miles with no maintenance but regular oil changes and a radiator leak at 230k.
Kishan Jay That’s been an awesome truck. After hearing all these stories like yours it reaffirms my decision to go Toyota. 👍
I bought one Ford and I’ll never make that mistake again.
cant believe i even thought about looking at a f150 ecoboom. thanks brotha. sticking to toyota
Jordan Gonzales You are very welcome. They have horrible reliability. I’ve read numerous stories in the comments with experiences just like mine.
Great info. Looking forward to your 12 month update, which I bet will be just as good as your 6 month. Tundra definitely on my list.
x x I have no doubt that the 12 months will be every bit as good as the 6 months was. 👍
Roger McCluskey I agree you really can’t go wrong with about any Toyota product. Especially a Tundra. 👍
I love my Tundra, thanks for the warning on future purchases.
Sergio Rodriquez You are very welcome. I love my Tundra also. 👍
SOCALPRINTER That’s awesome glad your Tundra has served you well. If they do a diesel that would be hard to resist.
Same
It's supposed to be a 3500 Dually with a Cummins engine in it I would buy one just to buy one
I agree!! I had same experience with Ford Canada!! They don't give a shit about there customers! Toyota all the way!
teva mcgillis I hear more and more comments like yours since I posted this video. It has got to start catching up with them soon.
My 2005 f- 150 still going strong, no problems very good truck.
Eric Amato I have a lot of friends with the older F150s that are awesome trucks. Stay away from the 2011 and up ones.
Love my Toyota Tacoma! Tundra may be my next truck! #TeamToyota
JM P 👍👍
The dealer gave me a tacoma for a loaner while they did accessories, really glad I went with the tundra I am 6’ 250 I felt really cramped
Sojourn Overland I know the reliability you get with Toyota along with the resale value is incredible.
I like how Chevy, Ford and just now Subaru has been calling Toyota and each other out saying they're better, Toyota hasn't called anyone out and they are still at the top.....Toyota all the way baby
I have a 2000 Tundra with 133,000 miles on it. Only maintenance I’ve ever done was a couple of ignition coils. Runs like a brand new truck. I love it.
Launchpad McQuack Out of all the hundreds of comments I have gotten. I’ve noticed one trend. Tundras are very reliable. Mine has been awesome. 👍
Ive grown up with a 2001 Chevy Suburban with 170,000 miles. All it has ever gotten replaced is a water pump. You really cant go wrong with Chevy or Toyota in my experience.
Andrew Ochoa If I hadn’t have bought a Tundra it would have probably been a Chevy.
Appreciate your honesty brotha. Family 1st over anything. I’m looking to get my 1st truck and I’m leaning towards a Tundras.
Can’t go wrong with a Tundra. I’ve had mine a little over 3 years and still love it.
Ashes Dust It will probably last a very long time to come. From the stories I’ve read on here. 👍
My story is damn near identical to yours but I've had way more issues. Ill never buy Ford again. Totally unacceptable.
Me too...2017 f150 transmission went out. Also replaced the radiator. $8400.00
David Robitaille I totally agree, I will to. 👍
this video on how and why tundra is better has changed my mind, please keep doing more videos on anything tundra related as it is needed and insightful.
Oh yea Throbb. My issues were awful and the Ecoboost was going to get us hurt. Love the Tundra and have never looked back. 👍
NYPANAMA I think they have lost some quality over the past few years.
NYPANAMA The Tundra is an American truck
NYPANAMA the Funny thing the Tundra is the most American made truck. Go figure
ThrobbNation a tundra is a UGLY toyota piece of SHIT
2004 Toyota 4 runner 4.0v6 306000 miles doesn't burn any oil or leak at all I couldn't be more happy with it
the rear end did go out at 292000 I do a lot of towing with the old girl she had the bearings replace spider gears are still stock in the rear end and its been back on the road for over 10k with no issues
Toyota builds a danm good vehicle
Walter Foster I’m sure it will make it there 👍
Chase Sillar That’s awesome 👍
just found a 6spd manual 2018 Tacoma TRD in Arizona last week, love it on and off road!!! owned Fords and Chevys and an older Tacoma and older Tundra.I will never go back to Ford or Chevy!!!! I do a lot of off-roading way back in the mountains don't know why but the Toyota's 4 wheel drive systems always engages and works no matter the age or mileage never seen a fuel pump go out on one neither. All the stupid s*** intake gaskets, front ends , transmissions ect thats go out on these American brands never going back.
andrew zweiger I will never go back either. Toyota’s just work. Reliable and dependable. 👍
i test drove a tundra and it hesitated bad...went and got a new f150 70 grand!
Tundra is the fast toughest and most reliable truck period
Seat comfort is a huge factor for a truck. Well said!
Great review! I love the expression. “I raised some cane”.
Fred Yarbrough I hate you had that problem. Fords CS is just simply awful. You can’t go wrong with a Toyota. 👍
Toyota should give Ford a Million dollars for converting all their customers to Toyota.
jzizzles I know right. 😂
Believe it or not,i rented a 2011,mustang in vegas and in ca brakes locked up at 60mph after i washed the car,i hit another car just glad it wasnt few miles later or id be flying down the mountain.
Toyota is the best my family owns 4 Toyota’s.
Had my 2018 f150 for two years....been very happy with it.
GhostFace2583 I hope it gives you many years of good service. I just wasn’t as lucky.
Recently sold a 2016 Ford Fusion car with turbo problems for an 11 year old Lexus GX470 (Same engine as the older tundras) and have zero issues!
I understand exactly what you mean with the reliability on these trucks. Great video👍
Kyle Tacey Thank you and sorry you had a bad experience also. It sucks when you pay for something expecting more and get less.
Gear Runner just want to say Welcome to the Toyota Family
Troy Foutz Thank you. Happy to be here. 👍
2017 Toyota Tundra 4.6L for me bud did a 2 hour trip awhile ago and I averaged 10.7L/100
4x4 SR5 package not one problem with it I love it
Twiggy Webber I love mine as well. I’ve never driven the 4.6 but I might be able to test drive some vehicles soon and this one will be on my list.
Twiggy Webber
10.7L/100...?
Yes, it was mostly flat terrain so gears weren't shifting as much causing higher rpm's changing your fuel economy every area will be different some better some worse
A lot of people have been screwed by Ford, and we need to continue putting the word out. Tundra's are freaking bullet proof, I still have my 2006 Limited Tundra with Zero issues.
D Nice I hear the same stories about Fords and Tundras 👍
Pindal Mapu I agree everything you need and nothing you don’t. 👍

A Japanese company are building better trucks than Ford and Chevy. Sad. Ironically, I hear Tundras and Tacomas are both made here in the states.
Derek Jimenez The Tundra is made in Texas. 👍
not sure about the tacos but i know the 4 runners are all built and assembled in japan and sent here by cargo ship
Chase Sillar I’m not sure about the Taco either but Tundras are built in Texas. I was thinking Tacos were also.
Yes tacomas are also made in San Antonio
@steveo314 Tacos quality may go down unless Toyota Corps strictly enforce Quality Assurance.
Sorry you had this issue, I love my 2017 F150. No issues.
I hope you never have any issues with yours. 👍
F-One Shitty
Chris Marc 😂😂
I've always preferred naturally aspirated engines. What you experienced is one of the many problems with more complex, forced induction engines.
Toyota will recall stuff that other companies won’t even bother with. Really shows they stand behind their customers and the products
Benjamin Gagne I totally agree. 👍
I agree!I am taking my 19 tundra in for its 5000 mile service tomorrow, just tire rotation and fluid top off.GREAT TRUCK
Be safe!
The Tundra is also domestically made, right near San Antonio, Texas.
Look up word Toyota Tundras Are Made For Us sales you'll be surprised
@@huehuehue-x3c yup
I agree with the payload capacity, however our handyman is on his third Tundra. He has two custom diamond plate tool boxes, a ton of tools. Ladder framed with two full sized ladders and he has no problems.🤔
LP My buddy at work hauls two zero turns and a ton of equipment for his landscaping business. He hasn’t had any issues either. 👍
Iam with you. I would never buy another Ford either. Worst part is Corporates response. Screw them.
Albee4ty5 Yep I was so disappointed in the way they handled my issue.
Love your honest review, I am in market for a truck so this helps a lot!
boroneadani Thank you I’m happy I could help. 👍
Love my Toyota Tundra! It's my 2nd one. The first one was fabulous, never anything wrong with it. Just needed an upgrade for towing. So glad I bought a Tundra
Yep I couldn’t agree more!
I’m a Toyota guy all the way. They have proven in so many way there products are far superior in pretty much every way!
rednecktech70 Agreed 👍
I personally believe that Ford reverse engineers their vehicles to need many expensive repairs.
Their mantra should be: Vehicles for show - repairs for dough.
LD ODOM yeah you’re right, they purposely make shit vehicles knowing it hurts their rep and decreases sales. Fucking genius
Ford= Found On Road Dead
chavy wow. Genius. Think of that all on your own?
I thought it stood for Fix Or Repair Daily. At least that seems to be the case for Gear Runner.
Adam McClain I tell you, when they go into limp mode like that with no warning it’s pretty scary! I hope they get your truck fixed. 👍
I had the same problem with my parents’ Ford Escape. It is scary. Yeah, I just bought a new Tundra. Thanks for the video. It helped me make the decision.
Tim Johnson I hate you had the same experience but I do think you will love the Tundra. 👍
Your story is an exact replica of what I went through with ford. Bought a tundra problem solved
jason hunt I hate you had the same problems as I had, but that also fixed mine as well. 👍
You know, a lot I think has to do with that ecoboast engine. My family has a good sized ranch here in Texas, and we have several Ford trucks that just go and go, but they do not have turbo motors. That being said, guess who drives a Toyota... ;)
AgentPepsi1 Lol 👍
Lmao good one - laughing all the way from Trinidad
I wonder if this guy is from the south?
Lester Suggs I am but not sure what that has to do with anything. Does that make me any less credible?
Lester Suggs I have a 2015 Limited DC, 5.7L, I average 14.9 mpg city. On hwy trips I get 16-19 mpg depending on speed. And I’m a lead foot a lot.
Gear Runner Aint nothin wrong with being from the south brother! NC born and raised!
Great info thanks. I drive an 18 and I too love it more now than when I bought it last Nov.
Michael Clark I agree I love my Tundra more each time I drive it. 👍
