All the many many steps and then the editing to create perfect little video nuggets of quilting joy in the Community Quilt block short videos! No wonder you got sick - you were making 3-4 at a go in the last few weeks! That is an overwhelming amount of work. Thank you for sharing your process. I suspected it was a lot of work. Hopefully next year you can spread out the community quilt block making a little more, in your schedule. I do love the series!
Hey Chris. I liked seeing the process in real time. You are so organised! No need for music. It reinforces how much time you are giving to The Trevor Project and this quilt. Heartfelt thanks 🙏🏻
"You are there. No. You are there." That sounds like me when I'm quilting! It was really interesting to see all the steps involved, and I was fine without any music in the video. Thanks so much for sharing! 💜
I knew a lot of work went into your videos. But now that I see it, I have such an increased appreciation for your work. Thank you so much for sharing and for the community quilt!
I knew there was a lot of work involved in making these community blocks, but didn’t realize how much! Thank you for sharing your process. I appreciate each block even more than I already had.
In the future it would be cool if you did a tour of your workroom. I’m currently setting up my workroom in my studio apartment above my garage. I’ve decided not to rent it and to use it for my passion projects. I could use some ideas on where to put what. Your workspace looks very organized and practical.
Thanks for sharing real time video Chris. All the extra steps for pictures and videos really add steps plus keeping track of the fabric too. I appreciate all the work you put into the community quilts and sharing the videos too.
It's easy for the audience to forget how much time is actually needed to make these shorts. Thanks for your hard work, Chris, to make these videos and post them! Thanks also for this behind-the-scenes video 🥰
The video took over half an hour! I admire your commitment and thank you for sharing your process in its entirety. I am wholeheartedly encouraged by this. Blessings to you!
Thank you very much Chris! I thought that each episode involved a lot of work. The work you do goes beyond my estimation! My mom points out and admires your organization skills. I translate for her. We follow you from Vienna, Austria. I wish you joy with the project, here we very much enjoy it. 😊 Amelia
Hi Chris! My first career 50 years ago was as a television director. I have studied your quilt block shorts, trying to figure out how they were produced and shot. This was a fascinating video. I am in awe of your professional approach to video production and quilt block construction. 👏👏👏👏
I was quite interested in your process. First, I have long wondered if your hubby tossed the basket to you. Very clever way of tossing it to yourself! Not being a quilter, I also didn't realize how many individual seams you have to sew for a single block. And it is always a good reminder that craftspeople on UA-cam are always making 2 things, the item they are crafting, and the video. With editing you will have put in well over 100 hours of work into this quilt. That's quite a gift of time.
I love your videos - but you also have to add on the time for the rest too, so each block might take, on average 30 minutes to make and film, and perhaps another 30 minutes in editing and uploading. Times by 144 blocks, then quilting and binding! I’m not involved with The Trevor Project, but I come into contact most days with young people, some of which are struggling with identity and belonging, so I have sought out extra training to try to support them through this process. I just wish they could see that they are loved, and that there is someone special out there for them. (I live in the UK and services are stretched so thin, they are virtually invisible, but I do what I can.)
I love seeing the behind the scenes stuff! I also love the year compilation of all the shorts you did for 2023 and hope to watch the same for 2024! You are such an inspiration, and thank you so much for what you do!
Hi Chris, great to see the process that goes into making your "shorts". You are so organized. Thank you for everything you do to make this project happen. 🌿❤🌻❤🌿
This was great to see the whole process. You get a lot of steps. I have my ironing board on a lower setting just to the right of my sewing table and a swivel chair so I just turn a bit to press my seams. I was wondering which of the random blocks had the most effort? How many pieces and takes the longest to put together? Which one is the quickest? I can’t wait to see the final quilt layout with those number blocks. Great job on this charity quilt project. ❤
You've put so many long hours (and so much love) into this stunning quilt! I talk to myself while quilting too. I also always wondered if someone tossed the mail bin to you or if you tossed it to yourself. 😂 Love this video!
Very cool watching the entire process, Chris! Your quilting creations are a joy to watch, that you can film and edit your craft is a skill too! Thank you for sharing!
Fascinating to see the whole filming process.. Thank you 😊... But also thank you for reminding me why I don't do patchwork and quilting 😂. I love watching your reels on insta, and I love the ethos behind The Community Quilt so much they almost made me want to make a quilt myself.... This insight to your work is precisely why I will sit back and watch you pro's do all the work!😂😂😂 Bravo 👌
I knew there were a ton of steps to get to the finished product! I enjoyed the behind the scenes but wish I could create as fast as your edited version!😂❤
You are amazing, it helped watching the break down of putting the block together. Hope you have a step counter lol. You can at least know how many you are getting in as you put the blocks together lol. Thank you again. Lisa
Deepest respect for the amount of detail and creativity that went into your process! I found this video to be very interesting! Thank you for sharing...❤
It is absolutely not boring. Thank you for this video? What will you do with the scraps of fabric? I have seen, that you have put them back into the envelope. What are planning to do with them? Love seeing you. Greetings from Germany
@ thanks for your answer. That is a great idea. And I am already planning to be part of the 2025 quilt. I just have to go to the post office. The envelop is already ready for takeoff.
Thank you for sharing. I had no idea how much it took to make these beautiful blocks. What do you do with the scrap fabrics? I really enjoyed this video 🪡❤️🪡
🤩 you are truly amazing! Big question, do you ever go back and reuse the scraps? I remember in another video you said you had a stash of fabrics that you kept after projects were done, and now I am wondering if you use them up later.
Thank heavens you left the music off 😅.... So my question now is.. 30mins filming, taking photos etc. But how long does the footage then take to edit down I to the finished 'reel' that we see on instagram? 🤔
You were careful to put the scraps back in the original envelopes. What do you do with them? Loved seeing all the behind the scenes footage. And of course the iron ran out of water - mine does at the most unexpected time.

Your editing is excellent. I love seeing your process. Very smart and creative. I always thought you had an entire crew working with you! Great job!
lol, nope… just lil’ old me 🥰
@@michelepuluti7807 I figured at least one other person was tossing the mail bin. Nope, not even that! 😅
you really have this down to a science! love the behind the scenes look, thanks for bringing us along! ❤

I actually enjoyed this video. It was neat seeing the process. Thank you for sharing.
You do a great job on the editing bc we usually just see a 30-1 min short but to see it takes about 30 mins per block is impressive
WOW WOW this is such a process and you do it so effortlessly. I have MUCH more appreciation. Thank you Thank you. YOU ROCK
I enjoyed the entire video without music! Calming and relaxing.
Agreed. I’m glad he didn’t end up adding music.
My favorite part is trying to guess what shirt you will be wearing. 😊 This year I will be participating in the 'mail time'.
... and you certainly get your steps in making the blocks!
感谢您的分享❤

Thank you so much for helping our youth! 🥰
Thank you for the insight. Your short videos are lovely. It is good for us to remember the amount of work is involved.❤❤
I always want to know who tosses you the mail bin.
I want to see any bloopers of the basket toss 😋😂😍
That was so interesting and no it was not boring! Thank you for doing that 😻😻😻😻😻

I enjoyed this video so much. Shows us all the time and work you put in a block. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Love your videos.💐❤️
Been feeling a bit overwhelmed today and this level of skillful quilting ASMR is just what I need and I didn’t even know it!

Never thought about you needing to iron before cutting! Of course, it’s necessary. You make it look easy
Thank you for showing how it all comes together!!! ❤
I knew there were a ton of steps to get to the finished product! I enjoyed the behind the scenes but wish I could create as fast as your edited version!😂❤
No seam ripper involved. A great day in the sewing room!
I loved seeing the process. Thank you
That's alot of work! Thank you for what you do!

I enjoyed watching your process, and didn't miss the music at all 😊

This is great! You should go live sometimes!
Thank you thank you and thank you. I knew it took time to make but this is great that you show the behind the scenes at least once.
Love this! Finally we get to see how the sausage quilt is.made
Very interesting. Thank you
Wow, lots of time + effort into each block + video! Thanks for your good work!
Thank you for showing this!
It is absolutely not boring. Thank you for this video? What will you do with the scraps of fabric? I have seen, that you have put them back into the envelope. What are planning to do with them? Love seeing you. Greetings from Germany
Most of the useable scraps will be made into the binding and backing.
The useable scraps will get incorporated into the backing and binding
🤩 you are truly amazing! Big question, do you ever go back and reuse the scraps? I remember in another video you said you had a stash of fabrics that you kept after projects were done, and now I am wondering if you use them up later.
For this project, the scraps are being used for the backing and binding.
@ 😆 I saw that in your other videos.
Thank heavens you left the music off 😅.... So my question now is.. 30mins filming, taking photos etc. But how long does the footage then take to edit down I to the finished 'reel' that we see on instagram? 🤔
I’ve kind of got it down a science, so it’s usually 20-30 minutes to edit it down.
How long does it take you to edit a community quilt block video?
Usually between 20-30 minutes I think
Definitely not a boring video! It was so cool seeing how you make each video! How long does it then take to edit the video?
I’ve got the editing down pretty well at this point, maybe 20-30 minutes to edit an episode.
You were careful to put the scraps back in the original envelopes. What do you do with them? Loved seeing all the behind the scenes footage. And of course the iron ran out of water - mine does at the most unexpected time.
I put them back to mostly reference back when I’m editing if I need to…. The scraps are going to get used for the binding and backing.
Admiring your tattoo work. Who is your artist? Are they local to PDX?
My work has been done by a few different artists… currently I’m going to Bexey at Alchemy Tattoo Collective in Salem
I wish it subtitles oh well beautiful projects
I’m having to change video editing software, captions will be back moving forward 🥰
IDK if you were talking for this video's benefit or you talk to yourself, but you sound exactly like me talking myself through projects like this 😂
Oh, I was actually more quiet on this video, I’m often talking myself through the process 😂
@rosecityoriginals Excellent 😂
I thought your husband tossed you the mail and helped you film 🎥 too. ❤
