Hey everyone, re: the music. Here's how it is: I didn't know better. I'm not a huge comics fan, I'm a biography fan. I like interesting people, with interesting lives, and I bring them to you on this channel. Anyone saying that I did this as some sort of purposeful act or a joke, you're being silly. Not only would that be disrespectful, it would just be pretty dumb from a creative perspective. - Simon

One of the greatest moments of my life was meeting Stan when auditioning for "Who wants to be a superhero" There are those how say "Never meet your heros" however, they never met Stan Lee, he was the most gregarious, kind and genuine person I've ever had the privilege to meet and there's not a day that goes by where we don't miss him.

I remember reading the first Silver Surfer edition when it came out. I loved Marvel Comics then and I love them now. They made superheroes not just heroes but flawed individuals trying to not only understand themselves, but the world around them. Also, they brought diversity and strength to people of color in comics where none had existed. So thank you Jack Kirby and others, but most notably, Stan Lee, whom with his passing has made the world a little more sadder. Rest in Peace Stan the Man.

He was super cool and he actually communicated a lot with his fans through the comics; he and the team would write small sections on the final pages of the comic talking about letters they got, how the business was going, etc.
Marvel did a lot of small things for customers that would become the standard in the industry. Honestly it always pain me the story of the marvel animation studio and how they tainted all the work of Stan and his team.

I remember picking up a Spider-Man Encyclopedia in Islamabad more than a decade ago. I was already fond of Spidey but boy did that book make me fall in love with the hero! The best part were the opening two pages where Stan Lee talked about his inspiration behind the creation of one of the world's most popular superheroes. I really liked how he used real-life places to base the hero in, such as New York.
The co-creator of Marvel comics was born into a lower-middle class family, Stan's first dream was to write the Great American Novel, but after working as a journalist, he started envisioning something more spectacular. I remember reading in the Spider-Man Encyclopedia that his wife Joan Lee (who passed away in 2017) told him to write what he wants to write when he wasn't able to create a character on the same terms of contemporary heroes like Batman and Superman.
He based Spider-Man's alter ego Peter Parker partly on himself; a photographer working for a newspaper. Spider-Man also differed from other mainstream superheroes like Batman (a millionaire) and Superman (an alien) in the sense that Peter Parker was your average Joe. And reading about his crusades was a more down-to-earn experience than going through the adventures of his counterparts at DC Comics.
The 21st century saw Lee's creations for Marvel not only reach the big screen but also break world records both critically and commercially. The Marvel movie franchise is one of the most successful right now. Though Lee wasn't the only writer that contributed to Marvel's success, it's safe to say that without him, the company wouldn't be where it is today.
Besides Spider-Man, Lee is known for creating/co-creating The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and many others.
He will always remain one of the main influences behind me picking up the pen to write stories. I used to draw comics when I was 10 years old inspired by Spider-Man and X-Men. Man those were grand times!
Stan Lee has passed away at the age of 95 on November 12, 2018. But his legacy will live on forever.
    RIP Legend.

Think of the tv shows, movies, books and comic books we’ve enjoyed because what he did inspired someone else’s creativity…
I hope someday he’ll be memorialized just as Dr. Seuss has been..
    Thank you, Stan!

  • @herc1963able

Wally Wood is quoted to have said, "Stan Lee's only contribution to comics was to have the artist write, as well as, draw the comic, and, then write his name bigger than Hell on it." This was the "Marvel Method." Jack Kirby didn't create the Golden-age character the Human Torch. That character was created by Carl Burgos. However, the Fantastic Four (w/ the Silver-age H. Torch) was just a reworking of Jack Kirby's DC adventure team, The Challengers of the Unknown. Anyone looking at the early issues of both titles can tell by analyzing the layout of the pages, the flavor or style of the stories and even the personalities of the characters that one was just a copy of the other. More importantly, you can tell the later was created by the same person who did the former.

I like your videos, but you let a couple of careless errors slip by on this one. One: After WWII, Timely Comics was re-christened Atlas Comics; it was only with the creation of the Fantastic Four in 1961 did Atlas become Marvel. Second, Stan was not the sole creator of Marvel's characters; he always worked with various co-creators such as Jack Kirby (FF, Avengers, X-Men, et al) and Steve Ditko (Spider-Man). Creator credit is a very sensitive subject in the field and calling Stan "creator" rather than "co-creator" is a major faux pas. Other than some additional minor chronology errors, you mostly got the rest correct.

Oh the irony of using the Superman theme for a Stan Lee Bio. I still loved every second of it though. Stan Lee and Marvel was major influences on who I am today. Excelsior! R.I.P. Mr. Lee they'll never be another like you.

Stan, one of the greatest, thank you for all the comic stories you had created, I love them all, I enjoy them all, I always got excited to see your cameos in all the Marvel movies, I hope they never stop the cameo, even if they have to create holographic images of you, you'll never die in our hearts, I congratulate you Sir for your great accomplishments, & I have so much gratitude for all of your impeccable creations you made for us, teaching us "with great power comes great responsibility".

In your asking for recommendations post from earlier in the week I posted today you should do one in honor of Stan Lee and his passing, it's like you're actually were on the page as I was. Great video I enjoyed this one just as much as I enjoy most of the videos you guys do. I just have one critique you were using the Superman theme and he's a DC character instead of finding a theme from one of the Marvel movies to use.

Thank you for doing a video on Stan Lee. It was a great video! I don't get caught up on the music that was used. It's just an aesthetic for the video. I appreciate the content of the video. Isn't that what a ton of people asked for?? If they are so hung up on the music, go watch MTV.

Great video! Stan Lee's one of my real life heroes, and I think he's the only comic book writer who got really recognized and acknowledged.
Stan Lee once noted in Comics Scene 2000 #1 that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes was his reading.
Hope you'll do video bios on Ian Fleming, Tom Clancy & Dan Brown soon as well.

Stan Lee is not really dead, all True Believers know that the best Marvel heroes always Appear to die, only to turn up later, perhaps with another name, like The One Above All

Thanks for doing this video, Simon! I've never truly been a fan of the Marvel universe, but Stan Lee's creation did indirectly influence my life before I first saw "X-Men" and "Spiderman." RIP Stan Lee!
For similar people, consider the famous comic artist Jack Kirby or other comic hero creators like Bob Kane (Batman), Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Jerry Siegel and Joel Shuster (Superman). George Reeves and Christopher Reeve, 2 of the actors who've played Superman, would also be great!

I think it is really cool all that I've seen done by MCU Stars, broadcast media, social media, Marvel fans, and even DC fans to show respect for this great man's passing who made the world such a better place. Especially when some big shot Stars are taking this as an opportunity to make snide or dismissive remarks about his passing to seem Fringe or edgy. Rest in peace great one. Excelsior!
