I have done SEO for a restaurant. What Eric says makes perfect sense. Reviews, good photos, tripadviser, google local and facebook
Thank you Neel!
I stumbled onto this post and glad I did. I'm a photographer and jumping into the restaurant food photography. I was educating myself about effective marketing. Thanks for your insights!
I watched so many videos but restaurant marketing but your video is easily understandable , audio is good and everything.
Much appreciated Shufkat!
Awesome content here Erik, very well explained. I breath this in and out for my clients.
Thanks Faisal, glad I could add a little value and research to spread around.
Great work. Awesome video brother keep it up.
Great one. Thanks for posting!
Erik, you opened my eyes a lot more! Just when I thought I knew it all about Social Media Marketing. Logic! Thanks Brother!
Thank you Dedric! Social media techniques that work today, won't necessarily work tomorrow. The days of organic posts reaching customers are far behind us I'm afraid.
I'm a website/marketer too...working with my first coffee shop/bar/restaurant - doing a little niche-specific research... I can tell you this is 100% solid advice! Great video. Thanks.
Thanks man, I appreciate the positive comment!

Dropping so much value. 🔥 Thank you so much! 🙏
Thank you Anthony, I appreciate it!
Man, just watched 2 of your videos, and I could simply tell that you really practice what you preach. 🔥 Keep on producing quality content! 💯
I do for sure! I focus on nothing but reputation management and SEO of my bar and restaurant clients because that's what works. I don't do anything in social media, in my opinion it's on its way out for marketing tactics.
Very very helpful thank you !!!!
I appreciate your feedback, thank you!

Thank you Yasin, you are appreciated!
This also says nothing about instagramifying your restaurant. The way people decide to go to restaurants consistently on weekends is when their friends and family are posting pictures of people at the restaurant. Cool drinks, neon quotes/signs, natural lighting, and wall art--all things that restaurants need in order to get people to take pictures there and then have their customers do their own marketing for them.
I go into depth about that in my new book and agree whole heartedly. My second book "Restaurant & Bar Marketing II - Hacking Human Nature" is live on Amazon tomorrow but is available as a pre-sale now for 99 cents here www.amazon.com/Restaurant-Bar-Marketing-II-Hacking-ebook/dp/B07YSW956T/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=erik+shellenberger&qid=1571851064&sr=8-3
Hi! Thank you gor the great content. Can I ask a question? Is there a way to stimulate the clients to rate 5 stars on google? A free coffee perhaps?
Not really. People will generally rate you how they honestly feel the whole experience was. Incentives rarely work. What does help improve review volume though it to simply ask for an honest review about how their experience was. If this is built into the server's script it works well, they just have to remember to ask. People will generally leave you a positive review if you ask and if they had a negative experience, it's also a great time to open the dialogue for them to speak up.
@@ErikShellenberger Thank you :-)
Apart from a review, you can ask for feedback through your tablet that will be recorded for business reporting. As soon as the server accepts tableside payments your feedback form will be opened and the guest will give you feedback to know your area of improvement.

I’m taking over an existing restaurant and need help in marketing advise.
Awesome hit me up! erik@barmarketingbasics.com
great info....
Thank you Zach!
A little double talk here. He said that websites will be a bit obsolete in 2020, which I agree. But why spend $1,500 for one? Also, IF you have a simple website, like he recommended, then you can have one done for a lot less. With all the software out there, you can have a professional one done and do it yourself.
Totally agree. These days you can do it yourself for zero dollars if you really want to. What I'm saying is that for the rest of the people who don't want to do it themselves, $1500 is going rate for something simple. I've talked to restaurant owners recently who have spent over $10k for a basic Wordpress website! That isn't necessary at all.
How did you get to the price of $1,500 for a website max amount? Seems incredibly low.
because anything above that isn't necessary and there's no increased business based on more expensive websites. I've made dozens, probably hundreds of restaurant and bar websites for that price in the past. Seems to be the sweet spot of ROI for the restaurant.
That’s all also common sense
Sorry, as I keep listening to this I have to add more. Social media is already pay to play (and has been since 2013). If you're not boosting now, you are missing out.
Agreed.
You sound old on the social media part live long erik.
Thank you?? I'm not sure what you mean here.
I find it kind of confusing man you are saying that there's no need to put a lot of money on the website... However, if you want to rank high it will really help to have a blog and some good articles, recipes and guides. So for a good Seo you also need to invest a little bit on your website... How about that...?
I'm saying not to put a lot of time and money into aesthetics. What the website looks like has little to do with making it a success. I optimize a client's Google presence and not necessarily the website. Although blogging absolutely helps, not a lot of restaurant sites do this. Don't put money into making the website a work of art, put money into being found in Google.
@@ErikShellenberger SEO to bring them in. Value to keep em
My cheap restaurant owners clients don’t want to pay for a professional photographer
You need to convince them of the value. It's a dealbreaker for me, I passed on a potential client because of this recently. If they use shit pictures, it's a reflection on your work also.
You can’t use the photos repeatedly for 3 to 4 years. You should always create new content.
Facebook will eventually become irrelevant... I am a mom of young adults and none of them use Facebook actively.
Agreed! It's a matter of time. Maybe they'll only keep it as a pre-installed app for the Jitterbug moving forward?
@@ErikShellenberger why the Jitterbug?
Because only us old folks will end up using it :)
Facebook is one platform. The idea is also to spread your reach amongst diverse platforms and also keep up with what is new. At the time I'm writing this, Tik Tok is very popular for the 13-18yr demographic. Because they all may disappear one day, yes.
You're gonna talk about other videos talking about common sense things then you're going to mention answering reviews...? Also you don't need professional photos for social media, iphone pictures actually perform better. Other than that I liked other parts of the video.
I'm not sure what you mean in this first sentence. It's not as much the camera that produces better pictures, it's the guy behind the camera. It takes an eye for composition and layout to make a great photo, not just a cool camera.
