With the way our church and it's good shepherds are being crushed and destroyed in these present times, mental prayer is about all we may soon have left.
1. Imitation of Christ by Thomas A Kempis Books by St. Alphonsus de Liguori: 2. Preparation for Death 3. How to converse continually and familiarity with God 4. The way of Salvation and Perfection Sources for mental Prayer beside books: - 4 last things - obligation to love and serve God - Christian truths (passion of Christ, sorrows of Mary, etc) Additionally, Fr Ripperger recommended The Ways of Mental Prayer by Lehodey, it's more like a manual, but there are many thoughts to contemplate. I also can recommened How to pray at all times by St. Alphonsus de Liguori, it seems like it is written in the spirit of latin mystical tradition, and there are also examples for a vast number of occasions on which to pray. As an orthodox, the most free from prelest for me are some parts of Imitation of Christ. This, parts of How to pray at all times and Lehodey books I found most useful.
Thank you, Father. I really appreciate the suggestion of choosing something about God that genuinely moves us as a focal point for prayer; in addition to the four last things, the passion of Christ Jesus, and as always, Our Lady.
The speaker mentions Ecclesiastes or Ecclesiaticus (Sirach) and that there is a passage that speaks of meditation on the last things that meditation safeguards one from falling into sin. I’ve searched and been unable to find a direct reference. Could someone point me to the right book, chapter and verse? Many thanks!
@@sarahnicholas7973 My understanding is that Father Yousef Marie now leads the Sons of the Holy Redeemer's American Foundation in Montana (Montana Rosa Mystica).
