    I'll say it again....you are the best at not only how-to's, but also the "why's" of what makes your flies work....well done brutha!

    Gunnar
    I’d love to see you and Kelly sit down around a cup of coffee and talk fly tying and how to fish your flys.
    Read your testimony on your website. God bless you for sharing with us. I’d love to meet you sometime or better yet fish with you.
    Thank you for sharing your skills and techniques you’ve made me a better fly Tyler.

    Another winner probably the best video yet . With the tutorial plus the insight on the best material and fly profile to get that built in jerk reaction in combination to line strip , so as to perfectly position the fly to make it easy for the fish to naturally want to commit and go for the kill at its preferred kill spot . Brother with the way you think about fly construction and materials plus fish insight you are on your way to greatness , and I see you as one of the heaviest hitters in the fly tying game . I don't always use jerk flies but when I do I use Gunnar's flies , stay thirsty my friends lol .

    Wow man - I fish for predators - just not pike so it took me a while to get to this vid but the info at the end about how you fish the fly is a game changer. I do lower my rod but not all the way and I do it to help reduce slack for strip set. Never thought about affecting the action of a jerk fly.

    Hey Gunnar, sweet tie as always. Out of curiosity, have you experimented with rattles on the hook, or lead on the rear to increase the mass being propelled forward for your jerk style flies? If so any decent results? I appreciate your videos and logic on streamer design, especially your notes on drag vs slickness and hook density. Coming from an engineering student this is music to my ears! God bless man.

    • @Gunnar_Brammer
      @Gunnar_Brammer  7 років тому +1

      Thanks man, really glad to hear that! I haven't tried the addition of weight, either raw or in the form of a rattle. The deflection of the jerk fly simply should be around the overall length of the fly in my opinion, that way the predator is presented with a 100% profile view of the fly. I am not sure if the fly would benefit from greater deflection, but it is something definitely worth playing with. I think from the standpoint of the rear hook, the goal is simply to overcome the material drag through the hook mass to allow the front to deflect - whereas if the rear had sufficient drag the front hook would be dragged back resulting in a straight line retrieve. If you were to add weight to increase deflection, I would think adding it to the front hook would be most beneficial, then you could achieve a slight jig to the fly, versus having is sinking tail first on a long pause.

    Hey Gunnar..love the tutorials and your vivid explanations. Do you use an 8 wt rod and reel to throw these flies?

    • @Gunnar_Brammer
      @Gunnar_Brammer  6 років тому +1

      Hey Sherry, you can definitely fish this comfortably with an 8 wt - same as with the Impostor, Allspark, and BodyTubing BULKhead. Most often - especially when wade fishing however, I'm face with high bank scenarios and limited casting room and a heavier line like a 10wt is more comfortable, especially if you need to roll cast. But for boat fishing or open casting areas, these are great, if not easy on an 8 wt.

    Hey Gunnar, My buddies and I are coming up to Snowbank to fish in June 2023. Have you fished there and can you make some recommendations on flies we should be tying and I’m assuming 7-9 wt rods will work up there. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year.

    • @Gunnar_Brammer

      Hey Joe, the Boundary Waters are something I've yet to explore. Have only been in the area a few years and I've had my hands full figuring out the local stuff. My only experience up there was on Rainy Lake - fished a 9wt and mostly Bucktail style baitfish patterns from 5-8" long in the June time frame - crushed pike and Smallies in the shallows, bays and points into the bays. Wish I had more advice for you. What are your hopes for target species?

    • @joecruse4531
      @joecruse4531 Рік тому

      @@Gunnar_Brammer Smallies are my favorite species to catch because the fight like heck. A couple of my buddies have been up there several times and caught their limit on bass. They used conventional fishing equipment. Im hopefully that the new Game Changers will work for the Smallmouths. I’m looking forward to fishing up there in God’s county. So beautiful up there.
