    Hi Gunnar,
    Very nice tying and instructional video. Regarding the spinning of a dubbing loop with longer naterial trapped in it, try the following. Use a free spinning dubbing twister instead of the one you use. Then spin the lower part of the loop first by pinching the loop just below the the material stuffed part and after the lower part is fully twisted, then loosen the pinch and the loop will transfer the twist to the upper "stuffed" part of the loop. If done this right the material don't have a chance to get tangled, because of centrifugal force and the material spins with ease.

    Awesome brother, thank you, i definitely need to practice, but this loop is exactly what i was looking for, i never used body tubing and i think that is why my lures are always so slim and skinny looking, im gonna get me some and try it out, thank you for making this video, ill be watching several times to make sure i get it down pat

    Awesome skills as always. Almost makes we wish it would make sense to fish stuff like that in the salt.

    If you didn’t have strung fuzzy fiber what would you use as a substitute? Congo hair?

    How far from the hook do your (approx) do you have the fibres in your d-loops??

    could you go with the 1/2 inch tubing instead of the scull

    • @Gunnar_Brammer
      @Gunnar_Brammer  6 років тому

      Most definitely - however the 1/2" takes up a lot of your hook gap and you may find it easier and more effective when added to a shank up front, instead of a hook. You could keep the back hook and tie the front fly on a 40mm big game shank with the half inch tubing

    This is going to help me tremendously. I've been having problems trying to do a flash dubbing loop. Not even wax is helping. After seeing this video, I'm gonna add in microlon to help me out a little bit. Off topic, but how do you like the new faux bucktail by the way? How does it feel and spin compared to natural? Or will it end up driving me nuts since I'm so used to spinning and tying natural bucktail? Saw the video on the popper but was curious if you've been tying with it more.

      It is tricky stuff to work with, it will not tie in and behave like natural bucktail. The fibers are not hollow and so there is no flare or compression of the fibers. The length and density make is a perfect tailing material for articulated jerk style flies, and the fibers hold their bulk and silhouette better than bucktail because they are a bit stiffer. If you use it as a wing material or support for a wing material just give yourself more room on the shank to work with it and you'll get really nice results. I'd definitely recommend figuring out a handful of various material dam systems to get the flair, such as 1/8th and 1/4 inch bodytubing and the flashabou minnow body.

    Just curious, what type of articulation wire are you using in this video?

    • @Gunnar_Brammer

      Pretty sure is a Malin Malon 7 strand nylon coated stainless steel. But I typically use Beadalon 49 strand, 0.024" dia. beading wire.
