- The suave Don Juan Ricardo 'Rick' De Villa (John Bromfield) and his married lover Fritzi Darvel would like to take off together, but his lack of money prevents them from doing so. It's late for me but this is my second movie 🤗 Tonite.....turned the t.v.off don't know why I am paying cable🙄....I just don't want to go to sleep.....by the way I am retired....I can watch these uploads for as long as I live.....as long as I have utube....
Thank you to whoever came up with this genius idea....keep em coming 🤗🤗🤗🙏
I'm 74, wasn't interested in the old black and white movies..until one popped up on my phone 4 months ago, now I can't stop Binging...some of the actresses and actors I'm seeing for the first time..and most of them run rings around those of today!!!😮
Very good story, excellent acting, a clever ending. What a lot of cigarettes they all smoked!
Loved these movies. Back then it was only the plot, actors and directors. That's why they are much better than what comes out of Hollywood today.
Very entertaining for a low budget film , no fluff or computer generated crap .👏 thanks for posting .
I like how the two uniformed idiots stood there while the detectives wrestled with the guy.
My newest hobbie , watching film noire...thank you upload, this was a gem.
James K Thompson : me too!
James K Thompson This was absolutely fabulous. My favorite hobby.
Me too!
Dear James from a four-year-old comment of yours -- and I don't usually correct individuals, but, c'mon, HOBBIE, 'look at Bobbie workin' at the hobbie lobbie, with his friend Suzie what a sillie boobie!' -- it's hobby. Sorrie dude! Anyway...the END of this movie (movy, or movey) how deliciously frustrating! A dark film with that expected cynical twist at the end which has me rooting for the 'bad guys'.
@@trapper1064 - I am addicted to these flicks!
Really Good One 👌
Thank You, Timeless Classic Movies.💗
God Bless.💗🙌
That was well written and ended like a Hitchcock film.
What a great drama! Love the end served him right lol
Absolutely!
A wonderfully "suspenseful" film plot.... with the missed "gotcha" opportunities with the pill boxes, and then with that ever-welcome little "twist" at the End!!! The sheer "sleaziness" of both Ricardo and Fritzi alone makes this Well Worth Watching = Pure B&W American Noir ala the 1950s!!! THX Timeless Classics for the upload. INDEED a "timeless classic"!!
And PS: I LUVED the shots of the original Royal Hawaiian Hotel, back when there was virtually nothing else on Waikiki….. and where I was "almost" born in '53'!!!
Can anyone please tell me why people always say, "Are you alright?", or "Are you okay?" Especially when they know perfectly well, that the person is NOT okay at all !!!!
This is one great movie, with a real surprise ending !!! Loved it !!!
It's the same with banging a dozen times on the cradle of a phone when they get disconnected.
@@PrimoStracciatella, do you know when idiots feel "tapping" crazily and making other riders think it magically works to get on or off the elevator?! More people do it than not! Please stay well & safe! Pax
Quit banging the button, NOW!
Yeah I know what you mean 😉

"Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. "
LOOKS LIKE THE CONSENSUS ENJOYED THE ENIGMATIC ENDING, KATHY!!! THANX for the UNCONDITIONAL UP~LOAD, FOLKS!!!
Love the way the doctor says she must take it easy while blowing cigarette smoke at her over breakfast...
This movie was definitely shot on a budget ... but the story and the performances are first rate. I really enjoyed it ... and what a surprise ending!
Many days I watch three or four film noir offerings and never hear one "fuck" or anything else for that matter, out of any ones mouth. No blood or bullet holes either......it wasn't even needed with those priceless gems!
Anton Bouchette:👍👍👍👍.
Ok well thanks for providing us with the missing 'f' word! There was plenty of sooting in films nior...just because you didn't see any blood didn't make the victims ant less dead.
This film had no special sound/visual effects, no vulgar dialogue nor sex/brutal scenes and yet it did just fine with its interesting plot and even better ending! Thank you for uploading it.
+Iwona Narcja YES, Iwona!! Isn't that the truth!! There's no reason that they cannot STILL make films this way......but they CHOOSE not to....so sad, I really appreciate these old black an white films without the overt bloody and violent scenes! Thank you for you comment, I couldn't agree more!!!!!
Xyz Xyz I'm glad there are others who feel the same way. They can make movies like this today but the pedophiles who are in charge in Hollywood are competing to see who can sink lower in the gutter than the other. The progressive alt-left is responsible and needs to be exposed.
They make 'em that way and no one goes to see 'em. In 2017 did you see: I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore. Manifesto. Personal Shopper. Collosal. Graduation. Okja. The Beguiled. A Quiet Passion. The Big Sick. The Lost City of Z?
Couldn't have said it better myself 🩷👍
I'm old but not that old. I'm in my forties now. There was a time in my younger years I wanted raunchy and whatnot. But as I've gotten older I'm tired of it. Very little of new Hollywood entertains me. I'm more entertained by old Westerns or film noir than stuff of today. I feel I'm in the minority though. I'm sick of f this and f that and everything revolving around sex. I realize though, even back in the good ole days, no one was perfect. But I still love old filsmymore than newer.
Love it how Rick gets hung with a murder rap. I love film noir movies! This movie was so good!
Very good movie with a decent cast and an unspected ending. I NEVER would have guessed it. Thanks for uploading this!
I like the SPECTED endings mucho better! L0L
A satisfying and proper ending. I'm really enjoying the films on this channel. Thanks for the uploads.
EXCELLENT FILM AND THE ENDING IS AWESOME THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD!!!💯💯💯👊👊👊
When movies had story instead of special effects, juvenile fantasies, crude dialog, list goes on.
+Phllip Mclennan They still do .You just ain't looking.
funny
Only to weak-kneed, cosmopolitans.
Proximity Symbol Here we go with the racist remarks. Smart people run things. Sorry, that's the way it is.

Amazing how many clarinet and bongo sounds you can get out of a conga drum if you try hard enough.
One of the best movies in this genre that actually had a twisty-turn ending. Why don't they make movies like this anymore? Thank you so much for uploading!
Don't make films like this anymore because people have the attention span of a fly!
Pure drama, thanks.

Side effects of poison
Can’t focus
Because they're to busy trying to socially engineer society.

‘Rick’, deliciously smarmy.
reply to Anton B. Kudos to you on your great observation, I'm 77 and that alone tells you how wonderful these films appeal to me.
Wow this is one terrific plot... never heard of it . And I watch a lot of film noir. Great story
Clever plot. Bromfield was terrific.
Excellent movie. People on here are right. They don't make movies like this anymore.
Geez, Fritzi is so desperately needy & in Ricks face, it's almost sickening.
And accuses him of being a two-😂faced cheat!!
Sure don't make movies like they used to. This one is an excellent example. Hollywood has since gone to hell in one reel of bull manure, making millionaires of foul mouthed A-holes and idiot floozies. . .Doesn't deserve my price of a movie ticket for what's being peddled by Hollywood these days . . .
Oh YES!
I wish all soul suckers got what was coming to them! Great story.
very unusual twist to the plot in this one, good movie. You will never guess the ending.
A bluff
For a guy who only had a couple of hundred bucks he sure knew how to stretch it wow lol just saying
Remember when doctors made house calls
Never ever read the comments ~FIRST~ !! Watch the movie and draw your own conclusions. No matter how open-minded you are
you will still be lead into what someone else thinks about the movie.
WATCH AND ENJOY FOR YOURSELF.
As so often in this golden age films, there is such a clear distinction between the good and the bad. Black and white. And Rick the villain gets what he deservs...I wish everything would work in the same way in this rotten world of ours. Thanks for the upload!
Villains always have moustaches. LOL

Great movie! Shades of "The Postman Always Rings Twice" morality play. Thanks for posting, I just subscribed ..
Excellent ending! Bravo to the story writer!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
love that ending!!😂
That was an awesome twist!! I love it!!!! 👏👏👏
Totally loved this movie. I had NO CLUE it would end this way. Excellent Plot
Real good twist. Not even the one I predicted. I love plots I can not figure out. Good show. Great writing, LOVED the movie. Thanks a bunch.
Remind me of Alfred Hitchcock movies with the twist🍿👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🍿
Ah, for movies like this to be made today.
Very good old drama ! The name is very fitting .🙏❤️🇨🇦
Good ending.
Another oldie but goodie. The twists are so simple + effective. 💕
Love is blind, they say. Classic movies like this prove the point with great flair. Such pictures are so enjoyable to watch because we all want to tell the wealthy girl she's being conned, but we can't. So, we keep watching to see who will open her eyes before it's too late. The Don Juan character is such a "perfect phony." Ugh...and that pencil mustache should be a dead giveaway!
The actress playing the mistress was not well-cast. She should have had some dancing ability and should have had some undercurrent of sexuality.
Good movie with a definite surprise ending! 👍
You Gotta love the ending

"Hey baby, where's your BUSINESS sense?!" 😂
Excellent classic film! Thanks for posting.
What an obvious gigolo. What’s wrong with that woman?
Whoa that was indeed an awesome twist. I tried to guess what it would be, but it really surprises you.
Damn, that was a great film! Love the ending!
What is with everyone lying to this poor girl? The doctors won't even give her and honest prognosis and everyone treats her like a child.
Thanks for sharing this terrific movie! Definitely better than I expected.
Bail...I thought it was taught 'till the end.
Good movie. Thank you for uploading.
Loved It!
love the ending
Enjoyed it very much
This is a remake of another story-- quite similar, except for the ending that blamed the guy for a murder he hadn't committed.
YOU GOT IT, GILDA!! RICKY..MANGALITTHOUGHT HE HAD HIMSELF TOTALLY~OFF THE HOOK!!
It's a loose adaptation of Henry James' novel, The Wings of the Dove
Omg, people were really ruthless, when it comes to killing off your spouse or family member, just to cash in on an inheritance??? like, money means more to them than their own flesh and blood? as the saying goes, you can't take it with you, once your time is up on this earth. Shame on them!
A nice twist at the end. This concept is worthy of something better than its B movie treatment. No A-list leading man wanted to play the heel (Rick), is my guess. Steve Cochran, Richard Basehart, John Hodiak and Barbara Stanwyck or Joan Crawford would have been great in this. Good movie, as produced nicely played by the leads. Fritzi went on to marry Robert Stack and retired.
Can you get "The Clay Pigeon"? Love this channel. Love the old movies. Thank you!
Great script, twist and cast. Truly enjoyed it!
Good one, great ending...Cheers A.
Better than I thought it would be. Great ending.
Great Ending!
A vicious triangle ending!,
LOVE this movie! What an ending. WELL DONE. ❤
I'm NOT gonna love it and jou can't make me!
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Thank you!
Tricky Ricky, he was horrible!! Kool movie
Thank U for the post.
Boy love will get U in lots of blind trouble sometimes..
Loved this movie. Great twist at the end. Nice work.
Great plot.
Excellent movie!
What a great ending ! Almost bailed on this a couple of times but the payoff was worth it !
I love black and white movies
Did anyone else have trouble getting this film to run on a continuous basis? This is the third time it has stopped I think one more time n I’ll go to another film
This was good
Very entertaining well done
Intricate plot! Thanks!
the stuff thats made today is a waste of time!!!!!!
and money,I guess Hollywood has always been a good for laundering, rats like De Villa are increasing ; a woman lacking discernment should heed the advice of her friends, that's why I like these old flicks - simple yet profound
THIS BAD MOVIE WAS A WASTE OF TIME!!!

All these comments of this film was: GREAT! as NO Filthy Language/Moronic police detectives/Sloppy unkept heros-well what would you exspect from a film made in an era (1940s tru 1955) as the script writers/actors-actress,s/producers/musical soundtrack recorders/as well as entire filming/production crew members were (here we go again with that honest explaination to answer those:WHY CAN,T THEY MAKE CLEAN CUT THE BAD GUY ALWAYS GETS CAUGHT FILMS LIKE THIS AGAIN) all brought up in thier LEARN A TRADE SCHOOLS/PROPER MANNERS IN PUBLIC (which carried over into your employment surroundings) as well as SCHOOLS PUBLIC AND CATHOLIC/PRIVATE/CHURCH/SUPERMARKETS/SHOPPING MALLS/MUSIC CONCERTS/PLACE,S OF YOUR EMPLOYMENT/HOSPITALS/ and orher places that many years ago did not have ALL OF THEM NOW THE PLACES TO SHOOT EM UP!!!!!! WELL GOOD MANNERISIMS ARE NOT TAUGHT (YOU COMMENTERS KNOW WHO THE TEACHERS ARE) ANY MORE AS MANY YOUNGER PEOPLE ARE BRAINWASHED TO ACCEPT THAT THOSE GOOD MANNERS WERE GOOD YEARS AGO BECAUSE THE U S A HAD AS A MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION THOSE OTHER PEOPLE LIVING HERE!!!!! (and that is the crappy answer YOU get today as the person giving you the GOOD MANNERS ARE,NT IMPORTANT ANYMORE anymore answer does,nt seem to fit in with the YEARS PAST GENERATIONS)
pretty good, bit of a B movie but has so many things in it that make it very cool (old cars, clothes, charisma etc)
This Movie is to good I dont deserve to watch it Good Luck Rick
The Big Bluff, released 5 June 1955 (USA). John Bromfield as Ricardo De Villa; Martha Vickers as Valerie Bancroft; Robert Hutton as Dr. Peter Kirk; Rosemarie Stack (as Rosemarie Bowe) as Fritzie Darvel; Eve Miller as Marsha Jordan; Max Palmer as Fullmer; Eddie Bee as Don Darvel; Robert Bice as Dr. Harrison; Pierre Watkin as Winthrop; Beal Wong, Art Dealer; Rusty Wescoatt as Frank; Mitchell Kowall, Coroner; Jack Daly, Master of Ceremonies; Paul McGuire, Butler; George Conrad, Bell Boy; Kay Garrett, Waiter.
I love the way they send Valerie, a terminally ill heart patient to a place that has dancing, & drinking on the premises. Then they don't tell her about her condition. Her companion goes off dating. She is supposed to protect the party girl from her own unknown heart condition. Great movie about human failing. Rick is broke & hunts for a wealthy lady, in hopes of hitting the jackpot. He wears her down by getting her to drink and attend horse races & marriage. What a cad he is!
Greatness
Thanks for uploading. The script, filming, scenery and John Bromfield was good but the rest was not. The best part was the surprise in the middle.
Excellent t show...
Wish I'd been around to see these old movies in a theater. For $.25! Great distraction since we're all stuck at home
Whose stuck @ home. Live your life; go to the park; go on vacation...do something instead of complaining about being "stuck @ home." You sound like a child.
Wow, had to laugh at the way this ended. Classical case of what is known as "digging your own grave!!"
