I would really like to know how all different SAC perform eg. the 2 SAC how they manage new people who used to go to Faith Act. I wonder if they government if doing enough to monitor them.
Why was the request from FaithActs to have another centre nearer to Dawson denied? Even though there are 2 other SACs working there, the elderlys shifting to Dawson from Tanglin Halt obviously have existing relationships and bonds with FaithActs. For the well-being, both physical and mental, of these elderlys, the authorities really should relook at this request!
Same goes for the SAC that served Dakota Crescent. It's strange when authorities who obviously lose touch with the ground get to decide who to stay who to go without considering the residents needs.
Not sure of the real reason but there are also folks who go to faith acts who reside at the blocks that are not moving to queenstown. This video is made with a focus on the folks from the SERS flat. In fact when majority of folks move to queenstown it's the minority that are left in Tanglin Halt. (there are 8 blocks near Sheng Siong not shifting)
Very sad to see the outcome of the resettlement, perhaps the authority could take this opportunity to create a “old folk village” among the seniors so that they could continue to lead a active and happy life in a new estate with the help of their beloved FaithActs.
This is heart-breaking. Many of such elderly people in Singapore led exceptionally tough lives and have lived through our nation’s developing years. To have their lives thrown in unnecessary disarray during the period in which they should be enjoying their remaining years really makes me sad. As much as I understand how difficult the choices are that our government has to make, it is still hard to agree with some of the decisions they make, especially ones like this.
Agreed. While on paper it's a decision for better change, it saddens me to the point of tearing up because this is their community and an inter-dependent network built over decades...

As many of whom are having their offsprings living far distance or having both busy family & work lives! And it will be good if the government here in UK will through the community advertising campaign to promote better humanly warmth & caring for the elderly people from their own offsprings rather then just on the state's Social Service!
Mdm Wong Ying has this endearing character that I really hope that the Faithacts centre could be relocated near her to allow her to enjoy the activities.

Tanglin Halt is the modern day kampung of old Singapore. Though they were living in modern concrete blocks of high-rise apartments, these elderly residents still met up everyday, looked in on each other regularly, and cared for and supported each other. Just like residents of our old kampungs. The infrastructure is modern, but the spirit was one of a bygone era.
@@sarahkhan2310 I'm not Christian but if the Christians are doing a good job to support elderly people then it's fine. But yes agree these Christians shouldn't force or coerce old people into believing their Gods.

man this is just heartbreaking, growing up with my grandparents I know how hard senior life is without close friends or good neighbors. if you're living in a single area for 50-60 years that's really hard to let go, you grew up there, made a family there, shared deep memories there and just letting all that go in an age where you need to cling to every living memory you have is just heartbreaking.
An idea that may be possible is for a bus shuttle service of some sort to transport these senior citizens from their new residential blocks in the future to FaithActs? That could be quite possible with some funding...

Government should realize providing a 'good life' to its citizens is not always about dollars and cents. Singapore is an aging population with the average life expectancy growing. What is the point if the older generation can't spend their last few years in peace and happiness. The social ties are essential to them. Do you want them to spend their remaining years locked up in their 'brand new units' like well kept pet dogs in their cage. Communal space and meeting points like Faithacts are far more important than you think. You can see how the older generation look out for each other. By cutting them off from this connection is like cutting off their lifeline. Sending social workers over for home visits is far more costly as well as far less effective.
Hi I used to live @Blk 43 in Tanglin Halt for many years.... I do miss the place. BTW, Mauricio was my late cousin... he passed away on 21 Jun 2021. His neighbour, Alice, is a priceless gem. She was always on the lookout for him. I do hope the elderly will have the same kampung spirit when they move to their new place.
from my observation, wouldn't it be better for the elderly to cope and manage if the ministry relocates the old town residents 5 to 10 years earlier. Firstly, these seniors will have more energy to socialise in their new town, finding new friend in their community. 2nd these residents will not need much help to make decision on their relocation and moving of barang barang 3rd when they are use to the environment and people around, they can rely on and help one another instead of hiding in their shell, these also actually very healthy, mentally and physically. these can lighten a lot to the ministry on their health, financially and welfare.
Haiz…I love the old town, more humanity….more caring, like the laksa stall…n since the elderly has mobility issues, the faithAct can arrange daily visits etc…younger can walk better….or better still, reallocate those facilities n amenities tat has personal touch closer to these elderly new location…
FaithActs should relocate first. Then help the residents adjust to their relocation. Of course, gov’t should fund this move by providing the facilities while FaithActs relocate their staff????
Anyone knows when the Tanglin Halt market will be relocated as well? I think the elderly will still be going there to hang out as long as it is still there
A sobering example of how dehumanising and uncompassionate the (govt) mantra of progress is at many levels of society. Tradition, culture and true happiness should never be sacrificed for progress and modernisation.
The younger generations are destroying past culture they do not understand that they have lots to learn from it! Greed is the real reason. Look deep into your heart. Luckily there are still a few good people left .
The whole estate is moving across the road. During flat selections, residents can opt for staying together in the same block. I know that HIP will take place at Old estates. Am presently surprised that for estates that are beyond upgrading, arrangement will be made to relocate to a new flat.
How can I not love Singapore! 💕💕💕💕💕
💖 🇸🇬
Love your neighbors as yourself. Amen
What a lovely video which shows what community means
The wise one said, we must not attached to people, places, possessions and ideas. And, that includes our physical body.
Yes. This is Asian culture. Maintain it
This is great neighborhood every community take care each other
Tqvm for sharing this memorable memory cause I use to stay there for 12 years +
mauricio used to be my neighbor in tanglin halt, miss this wonderful place
Hi I used to live @Blk 43 in Tanglin Halt for many years.... I do miss the place. BTW, Mauricio was my late cousin... he passed away on 21 Jun 2021. His neighbour, Alice, is a priceless gem. She was always on the lookout for him. I do hope the elderly will have the same kampung spirit when they move to their new place.
@@cecivsg hi,used to stay at blk.36,don't know he passed away,RIP.so u know carmen and angel?
@@cecivsg I’m sorry to hear about your loss 🥲
@@bsoon2001 Angel & Carmen’s late mom is my cousin. Maurice’s late sister.
@@crxiong353 thank you. Mauricio is in a good place now🙏🏽
Great job CNA Insider 👍👏
in the end, it is not about whether you live in a rich country or in a poor country, when you get old, all you need is love and affection
my friend's cat got featured HAHAH 9:42
from my observation, wouldn't it be better for the elderly to cope and manage if the ministry relocates the old town residents 5 to 10 years earlier.
Think, there will be no best time to relocate an estate. At any point of time, there will be elderly in their 70s, 80s, 90s...
I wish all of them the very best! 💗
This is the result of urbanization when famy structures crumble, tjose old values where children look afyer their own parents is the best
Why built such high-rise. If lift break-down, The old/older and oldest will not be able to take lift to go home.
I think the elderly will still be going there to hang out as long as it is still there
Thank you for the sharing!!
Wonderful memories at Bk 45 Tanglin Halt ☺
A sobering example of how dehumanising and uncompassionate the (govt) mantra of progress is at many levels of society. Tradition, culture and true happiness should never be sacrificed for progress and modernisation.
The younger generations are destroying past culture they do not understand that they have lots to learn from it! Greed is the real reason. Look deep into your heart. Luckily there are still a few good people left .
Humble people that make the best out of their lives to help each other. 👍🙏

Why don't let these elderly relocate to nearby estate together?
😔 ohh i missed my Tanglin Halt, didnt opt for the new BTO, got a resale flat instead..but still continue visiting e clinic ther 😅
spent a good part of my early years in Tanglin halt, just sad to see this neighborhood ‘go’ ….
You can see those Elderly are extremely worried that they going end up stay at home and no one care for them 😪😪😪
What is wrong with old or old buildings...? You gonna get rid of your parents when they become old...?
Where’s the laksa stall now as I didn’t see in Margaret Drive ?
my grandparents are relocated now and it’s kind of sad.. i spent lots of time here :(
It would be good if there's transport to bring the elderlies to FaithActs.
Tanglin halt hawker centre best in Singapore
Singapore focuses on efficiency... Relationship n community ties are not the the priorities.. It is so sad
The whole estate is moving across the road. During flat selections, residents can opt for staying together in the same block. My neighbour opted to move into an earlier 3room leftover SERs flats, blk 50-53. Faithacts is located at blk 50 and they are still serving the elderly from earlier SERs 40-storey projects consisting blk 50/51/52/53 and Blk 89/90/91.
Understand how the elderly feel. Sad
Relocation always happen. So did Bukit Ho Swee or Other older estates..
What did they learn from the Dakota crescent relocation in the first video? Really disappointing to see that FaithActs couldn't even relocate.
Heart warming !
Sg gov good in breaking old people, their social distance never had been peace, for our elders here.
Like to bring death to our senior citizen here
Mark my words 20 years later this area will be a private residential area.
That’s my birthplace in 1963!
I'm very curious, how can the elderly afford those new flats? They don't look cheap to me
Monthly expenses will be much higher than their current place.
Hi Joanna, the flats at Tanglin Halt come under the Selective En-bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS), which means the government will compensate the elderly based on the market value of their flat, as well as any other reasonable expenses to help them move. Hope this answers your question - Lianne
