    Nice catch on that small cap after all that shed work. Got to get those +1 jobs whenever you can.

      Definitely. Helps make up for the masses of repairs that have gone well beyond the normal 20~30 minute repair window.... especially when they've also ended up being duds (PCH/CPU deaths or in-board failures) :(

    Smashing that it didn't take too much time/trouble to fix :-D
    The retainer pin was likely loose anyway, i don't think you did it.
    I find it odd and funny that alsorts of animals used your shed as a dunny, a meeting of the crappers anonimus group perhaps :)

    Hello greetings from Panama City.
    I really like your repair channel. He wrote you because I have a macbook a1502 and it has the following symptoms and let's see if you can give me your recommendation.
    1. The laptop gets hotter than 100 degrees
    2. Turns off when heated
    3. the fan works
    4. Shuts down randomly. but only if heavy tasks like video capture are done.
    5. Already cleaned and put new thermal paste.
    6. The screen was changed, but it has something strange so that it lowers and brightness you have to close and open the screen lid.
    7. The battery and hard disk were changed
    8. Awaiting your response ....
    Thank you

    Hi I might be confused but I am following along because my Macbook exact one is doing the same thing. In the beginning, you disconnected the battery, then you said to disconnect the daughterboard, ok I did the same. I then plugged in my power supply and the fan started. You looked at yours and said oh it didn't start but to my knowledge, you didn't have any power to the unit correct? Then I tried the keyboard cable and it was the same thing it started again. but you didn't have power to the board right or will it start without it. I guess I am just a confused old lady cause that really threw me.

      I appologize I am getting old 60 now I watched again you did connect it you can just barely see it. I was just confused as to how it would start without power but thats why I am watching you because I don't know Hope you rest of the day is a great one.

    Been working on one of these. Have had to replace 4 resistors so far and it powers on now but won’t boot to OS. Slow progress bar makes to end and sits. Same with usb boot and other ssd. Boots right into diagnostic trackpad works. Any commonalities with something like this?

    I go a similar model that won't power on.
    Weird thing is charger light keeps orange even without a battery and fan does spin with SMC reset (remove battery, hold power button 10s plug the charger and keep holding another 10s).
    Other than that nothing.
    Couldn't seen anything wrong with the board (got a magnifier but no microscope) and yet won't power on...

    On the A1502, if there is corrosion on the battery connector, can that prevent the macbook from taking power? Thanks those are some good checks

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  3 роки тому +1

      Possibly. Depends on which pins. If it's on the I2C lines it's always a risk.

    Nobody explained how it is possible that an apparently not shorted cap would prevent the logicboard to boot... I assume that without that smoothing cap it should have booted anyway perhaps... Could the cap had some resistance to ground even if it seems on a first look to be isolated on one side due to the corrosion? How do you explain that?

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  5 років тому +1

      It's a critical cap. When the overall capacitance of the cap falls below a certain percentage due to the damage the internal regulator on the chip cannot maintain stability on that rail and subsequently it will cause issues/failure. In summary, cap went out of tolerance and it's an important cap.

    First thing first. Take a look at Shawn Woods mouse trap channel. Get rid of the mice.
    I just had a A1502 with the same power up issue. I managed to get the data off it and sent the owner to someone with more experience and microscope (I just need to get hold of one).

    Just that SMD capacitor was bad and that's all it took - that little bitty piece shut that laptop down - 5 cents for that

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  5 років тому +1

      Most of the time failures are just itty bitty 0.1~10c parts; the trick is finding them. In this case, the part is somewhat more critical than the more generic decoupling caps and subsequently when it died/disconnected it causes the RTC_G3H circuit to stop working.
