Stochas is great. Pairing Reaper with Stochas and Dexed was my introduction to working with a DAW and the first tune I made. Didn't have to use the piano roll. You can also use it to record its MIDI to your tracks to get a static recording of its randomness which you can then use with piano roll for your regular edits and stuff.
As a new user of Reaper, I cannot thank you enough Kenny for such well thought out content. Your style, language and tone of voice make these such a pleasure to listen to. Keep up it from Melbourne Australia!
Thanks, Kenny! This was really helpful. I'd downloaded Stochas a few months back and couldn't quite get my head around it. This tutorial is just what I needed to help me figure it out.
Awesome tutorial! Just what I needed in combination with Surge XT. I was missing a step sequencer. What drum tool are you using to add the different drum parts?
You've really planned and executed the tutorial very well. First I felt a little off, how your voice sounded monotonous but then I started liking how well the flow of the tutorial went. Thanks for your hard work, God bless you and your family! 🙂🙏🏻❤
I prefer the first version of stochas, which was a JSFX. Faster, simpler but gets the job done. The VST version has lots of new features though, might try this one out later. Thanks Kenny.
Howdy, Kenny. How does the routing work with modern Reaper 6.60? I see no route button, like in the old version of Reaper, which I could drag over the other tracks. I would like to route the MIDI-out from Stochas to track 2-5 (MIDI ch 1-4).
Awesome Kenny. I think you should change your last name to from GIOIA to JOY YA because it is always a joy to watch your channel. Thank you for helping us all out.
Excellent video as usual. I've followed through your tutorial but when I press the 'stable' button Stochas still only generates random patterns. Anyone else having this problem?
Hey, great tutorial! I was wondering...the way you do this with just muting tracks in sequence...how would you get it in a format to render? Would you turn them all on all the time and just automate it?...
I have Stochas on a seperate track and set layer 1 to output on MIDI Channel 1. I have a Synth on another track and set the routing to receive the output of Stochas on MIDI1. How can I record the sequence as MIDI notes on the Synth track. It just appears as a blank midi item even though I've tried all combinations of recording. Any ideas? Sussed it. Right click recording button. Click Record Output, choose MIDI. Easy when you know how.
You don't really have to but I hate leaving things on that don't do anything as it could lead to problems later if you forget that audio is being sent from one track to another.
I wonder if one could get random settings from Stochas sent to an AXE FX unit with this tool? Say like turning virtual knobs that effect the sound of the effects, amps, and cabs. Thanks, Jasen
Insert the stochas VST on a new track > open it up and setup your Stochas pattern > make sure recording is armed and set Record output: (MIDI) on your track control > hit your record button and watch as it prints the MIDI straight on to your track.
This is a very useful tutorial, thanks a lot...any chance you know how to loop (playback) multiple patterns automatically? I can't find this info anywhere
could you please show how to trigger the patterns with notes? For example i would like to do beats with it but they shouldnt run all track long, just if i want them to play,
Anyone know how to get it to put the randomized midi data directly into the project? It looks like maybe it's possible but not clear how in the documentation and not addressed here. Otherwise really nice tutuorial.
Pretty wild. I'm getting it. One comment (this is out of nowhere, sorry lol) .. I can't get Reaper to accept any Sugar Bytes plugs. Are the two devs feuding or something? Factory and Wow are in my folders along with everything else, and I normally have no issues of this sort. Thx Mr Kenny, for all of the usable and interesting information you provide. 👍💯
Kenny always dishes out great tutorials, but how hard is it really for cockos to make Reaper have an inbuilt Drum Machine & a Step Sequencer? All these Megababy, Stochas & Sower workarounds as great as they might be are quite time consuming especially for electronic music producers.
Just dealt with this yesterday, although you’ve probably figured it out. Click on one of the security links. It’ll take you to preferences, select the .pkg file. It’ll say the message again, but give you an option to install anyway.
Thank you Kenny for this wonderful tutorial on Stochas. I have a better understanding on its features and how to use it.
Kenny, you should just teach everything in the world. You rock!

Really appreciating all the free plug-ins lately Kenny. Thanks.
Content of the highest quality as usual sir.
I thank you
your videos are a masterclass in explanation, clear and concise, no random info and perfect pauses to allow the instructions time to gel.
I'm always astounded by how much I learn watching your videos. Great work!

This VST could easily sell for $50 - $100. Amazing tool just like their other freebie Surge XT synth. Thank you Kenny. You're a star!
Thanks, Kenny! This was really helpful. I'd downloaded Stochas a few months back and couldn't quite get my head around it. This tutorial is just what I needed to help me figure it out.
Haven't heard of Stochas before. Looks great and thanks fro for showcasing it!
How do you get the midi notes to show up inside of the Reaper midi channel
Good grief - mind-blowingly impressive demonstration - again.
I just downloaded this, and I'm having blast with it. I really like applyiing to drums for variations in the pattern. Thanks for the video!
Again , LOVE Kenny showing us COOL VSTs!

Really enjoying these!
Luvs. Still sleeping, I'LL watch it later. And sit comfortably. Thanks Kenny.
Thanks for the intro - just downloaded Stochas and made simple tune following your video.

he goes for the James T. Kirk effect !
This is a great video for the sequencer noob. Thanks for the education!
Very cool plugin and some features rivalling paid sequencers! Also just love the way your musical brain works :)
@Erick Rodriguez Ramirez Thank you! :)
Thanks Kenny - Yet another excellent little tutorial! Just off to download Stochas :)
I prefer the first version of stochas, which was a JSFX. Faster, simpler but gets the job done. The VST version has lots of new features though, might try this one out later. Thanks Kenny.
Quality tutorial and quality music. Thank you!
Gonna be a fun weekend!

Nice plugin. Very nice tutorial. Thanks Kenny. GRACIAS.
Great tutorial Kenny!
so cool
@REAPER Mania, kenny how i record or exported the sound i cteated, to see in a track ?. Thanks for this reaper tutorials bro you are the best
You can right click on the tracks' record arm, and set it to record output (MIDI)
@@IDDQDSound THANKS BROOOOOOOOO THIS IS SO AMAZING, THANKS A LOT BROOO
Great class. Thank you Kenny!
Great stuff Kenny as always!!
Awesome Kenny. I think you should change your last name to from GIOIA to JOY YA because it is always a joy to watch your channel. Thank you for helping us all out.
This is an awesome sequencer
Great tutorial from the great tutor.
Excellent video as usual. I've followed through your tutorial but when I press the 'stable' button Stochas still only generates random patterns. Anyone else having this problem?
Thank you, good vid. I wonder if there is ratcheting in Stochas?
Many thanks Kenny
very cool.
Thanks Kenny...great as always!!

I think this is the thing with which you can do this Brian Eno thing... evolving drum loops etc.
Great video!
Thank you!
Then how can you record this sequence?
EU TAVA QUERENDO APRENDER A USAR ESSE PLUGIN VOCE É TUDO PRA MIM KENNY
Since the plugin doesn't produce sound, why turn off the audio on the send? Great stuff as always, thanks Kenny!
You don't really have to but I hate leaving things on that don't do anything as it could lead to problems later if you forget that audio is being sent from one track to another.
@@REAPERMania Makes sense, good to know it's a best practice. Having a good time messing with Stochas, very enjoyable.
thanks for making these videos!
Thanks a million!!!!
brilliant and inspiring thanks!!
Can you please explain how to link a synth to stochas in fl studio.. im struggling
I wonder if one could get random settings from Stochas sent to an AXE FX unit with this tool? Say like turning virtual knobs that effect the sound of the effects, amps, and cabs. Thanks, Jasen
Excellent vid!! Thanks dude
for people having trouble recording: right click on the record arm of the Stochas track. Click Record Output, choose MIDI.
I did what you said but it still doesn't record anything.
Did you ever fix it@@mustang9902? If so, how did you do it?
2:46 - 2:53 I know it was meant to sound out of key, but I thought that was actually a pretty cool progression.
Super! Thanks!!!
Again, very useful for me! Instaled on my PC and testing with my hardware. Thanks a lot . Now how can i change pattern automaticly ?
Nice!😀 Definitely downloading this tool. Thanks for sharing this!
Cool. Thanks!
How do you select groups of notes? If I click and drag as in the video, it just lowers the value of the note I initially clicked on.
Thank you very much.
How do you then "print" that midi to a track?
Insert the stochas VST on a new track > open it up and setup your Stochas pattern > make sure recording is armed and set Record output: (MIDI) on your track control > hit your record button and watch as it prints the MIDI straight on to your track.
Hi Kenny, it's possible to change a number of steps for a specific note or row?
This is a very useful tutorial, thanks a lot...any chance you know how to loop (playback) multiple patterns automatically? I can't find this info anywhere
What does the Record button do?
Awesome Thank you
could you please show how to trigger the patterns with notes? For example i would like to do beats with it but they shouldnt run all track long, just if i want them to play,

Powerful inspiration tool.
Liking the intro music
But do you record what is playing ?😢
I didn't see how you created the drum kit. Did I miss it? I'm tired of using wav loops for drums.........
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I use the very affordable hy-plugins sequencers a lot.
very nice !!!
Wow that is a pretty darn cool plugin. I will have to try it out. Get ready for Kenny to trash another companies download website LOL.
is there a way to record the sound into the mixer as a midi or audio file?
For the audio Reaper has : CTRL-ALT-B ; you choose a lib and a name...
hmm...nice! how's it effect CPU?

It actually has both. It's called "the piano roll".
@@dddux I'm sorted now with studio one pattern sequencer integrated to the drummachine thanks
My Macbook Pro won't install Stochas as thinks it might be malware...how can I get around this?

Great tuto, as ever.
tnx!
How does Stochas compare to Megababy? Can it replace Megababy or do you still use both?
The main difference is that the UI look better and you can do randomness.
Lightbulb
Pretty interesting :-)
What drum VST were you using?
Sitala. I made a video about it. - ua-cam.com/video/ne3skLQC8iM/v-deo.html
Turn up your mic a bit, or audio down a little, thanks!

i've been on this for some time cause i hate the built in sequencer reaper has
The megababy version?
