No auto tune here folks. Close your eyes and his voice can take you back in time.. This man is a legend. Blessed to have had so many songs from him and his cousins.
My husband sang this to me. 24 years later when he was dying, I brought this CD into the hospital and sang it to him. He died that night. They say the hearing is the last thing to go and I know he loved that. ❤
Here in 2019!! Saw them the first time (after they hit it big) 38 yrs ago, and I've got tickets for the first concert at the new Bristol Dragway ampitheatre for ALABAMA and John Michael Montgomery!!😁😁😁😁 Can't wait!!
God gave Randy Owen so much raw talent that it's almost scary. This man has sold over 75 million records and created one of the all time best groups in music today. Not just country music, but music period. His music crosses all genre's. Them Fort Payne cousin's got it going on!!!!!!!! Thank You Randy, Teddy and Jeff!!!!!
@@rickmiller1429 I took my new girlfriend to see Alabama in Binghamton, NY in 1985. Restless Heart opened for them at the 'Arena'.... I bought the Restless Heart cassette the next day. Already had all of Alabama's!
One of the greatest slow dance songs ever written and performed. Danced with my girlfriend so many times to this song.. Perfect love song. So heartfelt
I flew from Dallas to Cleveland with the group Alabama on board. Randy had me sit with him in first class and we talked all the way to Cleveland. He was down to earth as you can imagine. He signed my boarding pass which I still have. Real nice guy.
For a guy who grew up on classic rock and blues rock, I was never much of a country fan, but anytime I heard Randy Owen’s voice on the radio, the station did not get changed. These guys were special.
My wife and I saw Alabama several times. The first time was in the early 80`s in Jemison, Alabama. We watched Randy get off the bus and walk toward the building. I called his name and he stopped, walked to the 6 ft fence, reached over took the picture that we had, signed it and handed it back. My wife still has it in a Bible today. ❤
My husband played this song for me told me it was his song to me. We had a baby girl, 16 mos later he committed suicide due to alcoholism. I tried to do all of the things that the song says. He couldn't handle life. Needless to say this song is very touching for me and my daughter. She is now 33, such a beautiful person inside and out.

This is my very favorite song. Randy's voice is so truly beautiful. I could listen to it a million times over & never get tired of it. I love it so much. He is such a fine example of a human being too.
I'm 31 and when I was a kid I went with my mom to an Alabama show and at the end everyone chanted "encore! encore!" They came back out and did another song, loved it! Or e of my most favorite memories
I am a former DJ who is a Classic Rock devotee but I listened to Alabama in the 80's because there wasn't this twangy voice and I became a fan. I think these songs are timeless and it sure beats the hell out of New Country.
Tom Oswald, I agree about modern "country" singers being too "twangy". It's like they're trying too hard to "sound country" and it sounds so fake. I love the older artists with natural country souls who can sing a country song without having to "fake it till they make it" like "country" singers today.
Thank you, Randy. I grew up listening to you guys. That was very special to hear you sing that and tell the story behind it. The real cool part is hearing about Conway calling you on the phone.
Randy is such a class act ..a small town boy who made it big..over the years i karaoked all of Alabama's songs...some things never seem to change and Randy's voice is one of those things...and rip Harold (Conway)..Talladega County loves Alabama's music..Roll Tide !!!
Still gives me chills when I hear this. I was just a teen, cared less about country music but my Brother in law played the hell outta this album & thank goodness he did. First time I heard this song even then, as a uninterested teen, it stood out & gave me chills.
Just watching this video and loving on Randy for singing this song. It’s something I think that a lot of people have forgotten. They’ve forgotten that passion and sharing that lifetime of passion with a loved one. They’ve also forgotten the passion and love for liberty and autonomy. Sad

I actually believe his voice has gotten better with age. Is that possible ? In Randy's case, I truly believe it has. Not quite sure what it is but it is almost like, there's more feeling to it for lack of a better words.
I heard them first in 1980. Fell in love with them and especially Randy. I grew up listening to them. Nothing but Alabama. I miss them on today’s new country radio. Have to listen to old country to hear them.

Randy Owen and Alabama, to this day, still one of the most recognizable, smooth, purest, and rawest of vocalist ever. Their songs are truly timeless.
A couple more pure vocalists that I've ever heard as well are: Vince Gill, and Keith Whitley. Gary Owens is on another level though.
