No I'm afraid I didn't record any footage of the strip down of this STW3 at the time but I am going to video it being reassembled.
      Cheers

@@VintageDieselCenter I look forward to that. I’ve got a Smokey SR3 and was told that it was most probably down to the injectors but watching your vlogs I’m started to get a little concerned as there seem to be a lot of reasons that I’m getting smoke. Other than the little that I know about the principles of how combustion engines work I’m clueless as to how to fix them. I hope to learn a lot from you.
      Keep up the good work.
      Matt.

      @@nbawolmatt1126 evening Matt.
There are five main reasons for smoke on a lister.
      Firstly.
injector issues, even a slightly damaged injector will cause smoke, with a badly damaged injector it will be very difficult and reluctant to run on that cylinder. I will also be hard to start the engine from cold.
      Secondly, compression.
If the engine is suffering from low compression it is not normally rings, the SR series engines suffer badly from being coked up with carbon on both the inlet and exhaust valves, normally it is a case of removing the heads and pulling out the valves then clean out both ports and valves and grind, then lap, the valve faces back into spec, remember, when removing the heads to do them one at a time as they must go back in the same place they came off.
      Thirdly.
Worn cylinder barrel or worn rings.
If the engine is burning a large quantity of oil then it could be suspected that it has worn piston rings, however, it should noted that if a Lister engine isn't worked hard enough it will cause "bore glazing" and this will need to be burnt off and the rings will soon bed in again and the smoke would start to settle.
If the barrel and rings are both worn out then it would require a rebore and fitting of an oversize piston.
      Fourthly.
Incorrect injection pump timing shims have been used and the pumps are injecting fuel at the wrong time.
      These would then need readjusting.
      Fith.
This in extremely rare cases but worn out bearings can cause excessive smoking but then it needs a rebuild.

      Evening.
What spares would you be looking for.
I have a good stock of most STW parts.
