Two years ago, I got a twitter DM from someone telling me about this weird csgo workshop map they found. This is the story of me exploring this map, and the strange discoveries that I made about it. This is my favorite video that I've made in a while, so please enjoy..

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE WARTHUNDER I SPENT ONLY $1000 ON THIS BRAINROT GAME!!!!!!!
nah fr be ready for cancer and if you want high tier stuff enjoy spending like me
I've played this game years ago A LOT. I stopped because it was too much of a grind. I only played airplanes, but I played for all the available countries (there were just 5 when I started). I also wasn't boosting my progress by buying the bonus planes for real money, so it was taking ages. You're making me want to return to the game, but I've got other stuff to do now!
But perhaps once, I'll return. I already returned once after quitting in 2013 when I started playing CS. One thing that sucks is once you are gone for a few years, they add so many new vehicles that you have to research on top of what was already there. That makes it take even longer to reach the highest tier planes that most people are looking forward to.
Tips: If you're getting into the game now, try every type of vehicle, but then pick what you like the best and focus on 1, max. 2 countries. Even with that, you're probably gonna take hundreds, if not thousands of hours to reach the highest tiers of vehicles. Unless you want to speed it up by spending money.
Also, not sure if it still works the same, but as you get into higher tiers, repairing your vehicles gets very, very expensive. Turn off automatic repairs. Vehicles can be fixed for free, but it takes real life time (the timer runs even if your computer is off). That means that once you're done playing for the day, you can leave your vehicles damaged. Once you return the next day (or a few days later), your vehicles will be fixed for free (or at least partially fixed, allowing you to fix them right away for less in game currency). This saved me when I started running out of money in the game, soon enough, I was again building the bank.
You gotta run this map with 40 people
Collab with nadeking lol
Id be in
I know right, waited for 20v20 gameplay..
I'm down
When I start doing streams more frequently (next month once I finish my move) I'll get together a group on my discord and stream it
It's actually so strange. Internet is actually a really big cemetery. There are a lot of maps submitted by guests we'll never know the autors. There are a lot of old videos with less than a hundred views with abounded accounts. They are a lot of old forum treads we'll never know about. If you really think about it, it gives surrealistic vibe idk
abounded
you finally made the video haha thanks (I sent the DM)
some friends of mine were actually trying to modify it in hammer to make it viable, because we had so much fun playing it in 10 mans with a longer round timer...
This is what cs2 needs. larger casual maps.
Finally, a map where Casual mode isn't hell.
1:46 hearing pakistani-egyptian border made me doubt myself lmao
Same 🤣😭 I was like "I never knew those countries were next to each other"
Bro Egypt is no where near Pakistan 😭😭😂😂
alternative universe?
yeah I was reeling for a moment there lol
@@memorimusic420 they probably were at some point in history
Valve will be adding this to the competitive map pool for the next major.
Teams will require a minimum player count of 15 next major
I wish TOs would have something like this for their showmatchs
Unironically Volvo should do something like casual major just for fun, where they invite all teams and play whacky stuff for entertainment. Like wrestling of CS, just without it being scripted. This map with multiple known teams on each side would be an event.
Some info you might not be aware of: So in CS 1.6, you couldn't increase the max player count of a server above 32 players. You could make it look like you had impossible player counts of say 46/12 but it wasn't true. You could also use a memhack plugin to force the server to a higher player count but it would become unstable and crash if you went above 32 players.
What's strange is that if you search for discussion threads relating to increasing player count in CS 1.6, you'll find threads from 2007 (3 years after CSS released) with people saying "why would you want that many players? Go play Battlefield instead", which I thought was kinda weird...
Anyways, when CSS was released, the Source engine had a better server memory structure which allowed for a max player count of 65 slots on one server. (32 vs 32 + 1 SourceTV slot).
This new potential for bigger servers created an interesting problem. People would have to create new bigger custom maps to incorporate the new numbers and try and figure out how a 32 vs 32 CS game would even work. These custom maps and servers would have to have settings tuned to the massive player count (for example, grenade spam would be a problem with that many people on a server).
And so people started making these new custom maps and tweaking their server settings because... why not? Just for the spectacle of it. It's something CSS could do that 1.6 couldn't.
As soon as I saw these servers I was intrigued because who wouldn't want to try out a 64 person game of CS? That's why I thought it was weird that people were dismissive of trying to get it working in 1.6.
Anyways, de_pyramid_css was one of these new custom maps designed for a higher player count. But it wasn't the only one. The server advertised in pyramid's description is called GB-UK, a server I am unfamiliar with, which is odd since I am from the UK and played CSS from day 1.
However, the main server I played on religiously was called UKCS Mega Game Server 1 and is amazingly still active today. If you look it up on game-monitor you can see it is a 62 player server with a map rotation full of maps designed for massive amounts of players. This is where I first played pyramid but it has some amazing other maps too. One of my favourites is de_3rdstreet which is set in a massive train station and has a working elevator as well as a working merry go round in a park. I cannot understate how many incredible maps this server used to host.
And so when CSGO came out, it lost a lot of the playful, arcadeyness that CSS used to have. CSGO was designed to be way more competitive and really pushed the 5 vs 5 competitive ranked matchmaking, and so the playful custom servers with custom maps just weren't as popular.
It's nice that some people tried porting some of these older maps but they just weren't gonna be as popular in CSGO because people were more interested in competitive 5 vs 5 than playing suped up 64 player mega servers.
It's the same with CS2 now. Does CS2 even have a server browser? And if it does, does anyone actually use it? I assume most people just use the matchmaking which obviously puts you in official servers with normal maps and settings.
So yeah, that's basically why this map exists and the history around maps like it.
thank you so much for mentioning that one uk server. i wonder if it still has pyramid. its Really really insane that it still has 57/62 player RIGHT NOW. ! and yes cs2 has a browser. which has some pretty fun servers. (zombie escape and surf)
the official one is broken. using a third party site to view the servers is the way to go
I love the community server I play on. It has 30-36 players (32 slots + 4 extra admin slots) in the evenings and weekends, everyone is of different age and speak the same language 😊
Hella fun
@@niigu ip plz.
@@ourchicken That UKCS server is like 20 years old and as far as I am aware, is still top notch. Long live CSS.
20 v 20 defuse is nuts. I wonder how it would play to have 2 bombs in play at once, so both sites can be played simultaneously.
It sounds REALLY fun but it hasn’t been ported to 2
oh man, I guess you never played on community servers. Anyway it's a cat chase with 30+ players on servers, it's kinda hard playing with 1 bomb let alone with 2

Hi
Cool map
OMG this is some deep buried memories you uncovered for me here, I had this map in my server's rotation back in the early CSS days! The days when player limits in the server were a sign of being a high-roller cus the hosting companies sold by player slots. 40 player max was big but not even the biggest you could find, and the 10v10 of casual in cs2 was considered modest. Its funny to think that the most iconic map of CS, Dust II, had its status as king solidified in that era. I personally prefer D2 in casual cs2, its just not laid out for 5v5 imo.
Honestly i would love if maps with casual play in mind make a return in CS2 with more to be added.
Though it is probably unlikely as the CS team over Valve seems to be fully invested on competitive and the competitive side of the community suppressed the casual side down to a silence.
This map was in cs source community servers way before csgo I'm amazed you didn't know it
I seriously love your content. Always well produced, but this time, the look into the past and the curiosity of people from years ago is such a relatable experience. It's always so interesting to see people made things in their spare time years ago, and years later people are influenced by it and they'll probably never know the reach they had
Love from the Pakistani-Egyptian border ♥
I've played this map in CSS. It was popular on public servers up to 32×32 players.
Pakistani-Egyptian Border? I should be surprised you even recognised the flag xD
Nice video tho
The map is a classic css map. ive played this on many russian servers with more than 20+ players. fun map!
Wait you have 75K SUBS??? I found your channel just a few months ago when you had 4k, congratulations on growing, you absolutely deserve it! Banger content!
Valve needs to officially make this a gamemode, they should call it Day of Defeat.
Im i dumb but isn’t anubis a fixed version of pyramid like how ancient is like a fixed aztec
Pyramid was cool map...
I actually started playing CS in 2006 haha
Thank you for what you make, i love going on these advzntures with you
Please keep it going
I hope youre happy 12 years from now :)
When I used to play CSS I remember this map was one of the popular ones on one of the servers.
First of all I still remember playing CS 1.2 back in 1999 and still playing CS2. And add to the video, I remember playing cs_pyramid in CS1.6 but maybe it was different name but I remember those bomb plants.
Proud enough to say that I have played all versions in a close-enough time since each release
I'd love to see a video on weird versions of dust 2 in 1.6/css. I mess around on css sometimes and I remember playing on very weird versions, including one where basically every building was opened up, therer were like 7 more lanes and I think there was a new bombsite.
I miss the chaos of pub pre "matchmaking" joinings random servers with annoying addons and teenagers as admins. 16 v 16 pure chaos
Thanks for the uploads GOAT.
tempted to make this for cs2
AMAZING, i really love this kind of stories on community maps. I've used to install all CS versions and compare maps just for fun, no for a video... just for me lol
In the CS:S version of this map I used to play it was possible to plant the bomb on top of the cross. fun times
I wasnt expecting a existential crisis when clicking on a video about a random cs map I have never heard a about
I'm so glad you're documenting this important history o7
(also I've been playing CS for 15 years 💀)
Did you just say "the pakistani egyptian border" LMAO
2 whole ass different continents brother 😅
Wait this map style has potential. It's charming.
Goofy map. Set in egypt, got Pakistani flag and Indian writings on the wall.
I remember playing the shit outta Pyramid on oldschool CSSource servers with like 32 players.. it was mayhem and lots of fun!
Subscribed just for the Tekken music during the war thunder ad.
This map is also in cs source, i used to play it back then. it had same layout but it was more egyptian.
almost feels like it'd make an interesting Insurgency map
I play the CSS version of this map all the time with 24 players, and its very fun despite (or thanks to?) how wonky it is. CTs get to B right around the same time as the Ts without the time to set up unless the Ts are going slow, and so it often turns into a pitched battle for B with teammates of either side trying to flank. It becomes a little more of a game of chicken weather or not they go for the other site.
So it's 20vs20? In my opinion in the next major this should be the final battle in quarterfinals, should be a one-round match and the last person alive will win his team the major.
I got a Battle Field vibe for this
I would be happy to try it
I cant believe you made a 12 minute video about this 40 players map and you didnt play it once with 40 players
Finally a new vid keep droppin brodie
It looks like the 2014 map did a good job at recreating the map in CSGO, simply to capture its layout. They had a more default Dust2 aesthetic and missed details like the spawn location, barrels, vines around B site. The 2018 added a lot of what had been missing.
Interesting coöperation across the years
W SPONSOR THAT ISNT GAMBA LETS GO PENGUIN
yippee new penguin video
I remember playing the source version on ukcs 64 player server, if I'm not mistaken
Nooo I could’ve gotten all the war thunder rewards but just started playing yesterday
Troy dming me hyped as shit
Another great video Penguin!
This feels more like CS S/Cs Go in 2015-2016
I loved this map, I played it with 12 people only though
I won't forget this video.
I went from “oh c’mon dude, it’s nothing new, we used to play this map on community servers all the time back in the day, how come you of all people don’t know about it” to “ffs I’m old”
I played CS 12 years ago...... fuck you dude im not old........... also Hello it's me, switch, the original creator of this map!
Hello, i played this map back in the css times, it was very popular.
Great now I'm gonna go binge Historia Civilis

Pakistani Egyptian Border
Nice
I have email addresses that are over 25 years old 😂
You’d need multiple IGL’s for this 😂 Imagine calling over 19 ppl.
Pakistani Egyptian border??? The what now? 😂😂
Wait this map was hugely popular till 2020 in asian cs servers
good old times 🥲
Ah I know this map, it’s a CSS classic.
Although I do think the CSS version has better aesthetics.
Lmao I have played CSGO since release. CS overall since 2007-08. SO I HAVE PLAYED FOR 12 YEARS

I just realised how sad my life is lmao
dont worry penguin, we wont forget about you
I played on this css map on gun game regime
skipped through waiting for the 40 man game, disappointment awaited me
We saw cs2 as a battleroyale but can it be a tactical fps?
Who’s gonna pick up the torch and make the CS2 port?
Hey Penguin, if it's any consolation, I'm someone with a hotmail address that still has access to - and regularly checks - the account. We exist! We're out there!
I absolutely love cs
Semi-related, why has counterstrike converged on 5v5? Have there ever been competitive matches larger than 5v5? Has anyone ever tried 6v6 or 7v7? I feel like there is purely unexplored territory here. TF2 has had pretty much every possible combination from 1v1 all the way to 9v9. Heck, why doesn't cs2 have 3v3 or 4v4?
because 5v5 is the best
Hello it's me, switch, the original creator of this map! I actually was inspired by an unused doom level from 1999 so this version was also a copy. Reach out if you have any questions!
It’s crazy there are multiple switch’s in this comment section

The Pakistani-Egypt Border? Come on, bro xDD
instant classic
I just want Zoo back
I'm fully sure i played this earlier this year!
i love how cs players will add everything to a map except for a 3rd bombsite (huh seems like a terrible idea doesnt it VALORANT???)
Hey, have you tried searching for the email online and have you send a email to adresses that may change the @ ?
Maybe he kept the same name but under gmail or something
Playing CS for 20 years bud
Someone ought to port to source 2.
half life reference 1:12
1:46 huh?
CS2 content so dry he needs to upload cs:go content :((
But did you play it with 39 bots or players?
It's Egypt with a Pakistani flag and some graffiti in Hindi. :D

Hello it's me, switch, the original creator of this map!
I love Internet shareware that just survives in the dephts somewhere and is obscurly enjoyable. Please make more of theese obscure forgotten media kinda stuff. ^^
This isn't a map designed for standard play. Back in CSS times, community servers were the norm and often had 32-64 player servers. This meant there were a lot of custom maps made by mappers that were bigger and supported the play on these big servers. For example, I regularly played the CSS version of this map on a server called UKCS, which was a big network of community servers at the time. Community servers had plugins that ran that would track your stats, have leaderboards etc.... good times
It’s crazy how many switches are in this comment section.
did he just say pakinstani egiptian border
