- Today we are looking at a toy I have joint custody of. Despite how hard this figure is to pose and how HEAVY it is I really want to trade some collectibles to get full custody haha.

I picked one of these Balrogs up in Boston last March. Its tail was busted a bit too, and I traded in some other toys to get the price down tp $250. It's the absolute centerpiece of my collection-just an awesome hunk of plastic. Great to see you get one!

We are way overdue for a large scale Smaug action figure. The Bridge Direct killed the Hobbit line unfortunately. Their Smaug was an overpriced joke. It was engineered like a cheap hasbro figure..yet it was priced like a SH Monsterarts figure. And limited to 3000 pieces if I remember? What a let down.. It just pains me to see that this franchise is leaning on almost a decade old and we STILL haven't gotten a full toyline out of it.
Wowsers! That fig looks amazing! The details on that bad boy are very impressive, especially for a figure of that size. No wonder you and Mark have decided to go halfsies on that thing! The colors are pretty cool looking too. That would definitely be something worth showcasing for any LOTR fan or collector. Balrog was such an awesome character from the films. Speaking of the films, I had just received the 6 film collection of both the LOTR and Hobbit films on DVD. I plan to watch all six of the films within a few days. Thanks for sharing this awesome piece of LOTR fandom. You look lovely as always in your Elvish cosplay. You should try to do some more in the near future. I have 4 Stormtroopers, a Vader, a Batman, a Superman and a Spiderman that are 30 inches tall but definitely don't compare width wise. I also have a 3 foot Michaelangelo figure as well. Not nearly as detailed or display worthy as this find but sweet to have none the less.
I dip into this channel now and again, but just had to comment that I've never seen anything so knee trembling hot in all my life. and Elf Laura looks scrumptious too.
Not sure what the largest figure might be, but the largest in my collection is the Godzilla 1989 by Yuji Sakai. It's over 4 feet long and over 3 feet tall. It's quite massive and rare to boot.
That Balrok figurine is the most coolest and badass toy i have ever seen,wow!!!

We don't have joint custody on any particular item, but my buddy Tim and I have a shared toy money pool that we use to buy collections. Way more fun to have a pal to hunt and divy up the spoils with then going solo.
I did not know this guy existed. I fell out with my friend at school back in 2002 because we all collected LOTR figures, he said there was a Balrog figure and he saw one in a magazine. We didn't believe him, internet was really accessible so he could not prove it. He was adamant it existed and we did not believe him. 19 years later I was proved wrong!
The Haslab Unicron from Transformers. He stands at 27 inches tall and when transformed into planet mode his diameter is 30 inches.

I’ve actually seen the prototype of this. I used to work in a Toy and Action Figure Museum in my city and there’s a whole LOTR section. It’s extremely well done and a hell of a figure. Always a pain in the ass to clean once a year!

That’s a nice figure. Largest one I have is a 31” deluxe Darth Vader. They also have a Dewback that was probably the largest creatures I’ve bought off a Toys R Us shelf.

Hot toys' Hulkbuster is pretty much a similar size,but with a bigger price tag and 100× more detail.
This is a big one..I have the NECA 1/4 scale "Knifehead" from The Pacific Rim movie..he is about the same height and weight but no where near as wide..and he has a stand..I passed on this as I have all the other NECA 1/4 scale figures..I simply had no room to display him and this guys needs to be seen..congrats and good luck on the custody battle.
Looking gorgeous Laura, you make one great elf! I have that Balrog and i love(d) it, but mine broke, dang thing has so many qc issues. To anyone that wants to get this, be careful with the wings, the tail and ankles. The problem on mine started with the wings. The "nubs" that are supposed to keep them from rotating just get worn down by the weight until some point they start to move. My Balrog's ankles just gave in making it lean backwards, breaking the tail and then it fell face forward on the poor NECA Freddie Mercury. Luckily Freddie was not damaged, but my Balrog has been in storage ever since. Maybe some day, when i have a bigger house, i might just superglue him together and display it again. I really hope yours doesn't develop this issue. Here's hoping NECA will re-issue this thing at some point with some much needed improvements, mainly MUCH lighter wings and some better sturdier joints and plastics in the ankles and tail.

Ok, I was gonna say the Neca 18 inch Big chap, and P1 were hard to handle. Then I saw those wings. Those are friggin huge! Figures this large look great. But are a pita to pose, and display. My P1 is laying atop my TV, legs up, and spread, from when he last fell over. And the Big chap... Poor Big Chap. Is laying on a shelf in my room on all fours. Every time I walk past, its like I can hear him complaining " Help. its my head. I can't get it up. Can you hold it for me? Ohhhh.... That feels good. "

That is such an awesome idea to go 50/50 with an expensive collectible. I think you made a good choice with your halfy buddy. Growing up I have played with action figures with my younger brother ranging from G.I. Joes to Lord of the Rings to WWF. My younger brother recently passed away this year. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of family. I honestly feel I continue to collect toys to this day because playing with those toys with my brother were some of my best memories.
The G1 Fortress Maximus was around 2ft tall. Hasbro recently did a giant transforming Unicron that is pretty big. Growing up I had a Vehicle Voltron that was somewhere around 2 or 3ft tall.

I was watching that eBay listing of Balrog you shared. Interesting you make a video of the NECA figure only a few days later, as I had never seen this piece. My halfy buddy wouldn't split the cost; so I am Balrogless.
Neca made an Age of Ultron 1:4 Hulk which has 25 points of articulation and stands 24' tall, 'nuff said!
That's a wicked figure! Nice toy too! There was a Voltron that Mattel put out a few years ago that was 24" tall, but this figure looks bigger. Voltron had a good bit of articulation though. Nice score!
The hasbro cloverfield monster is a huge figure and looks amazing.

Ah man, incredibly jealous. Once I saw how huge that box was, I knew it contained the NECA Balrog inside. Really hoping the upcoming Diamond Select Lord of the Rings figures include a Balrog build-a-figure since I can never justify buying that NECA Balrog at the price it goes for.

Wow!!! This thing is gigantic!!! The only figures I have that are that big, are my Transformers Masterpiece 3rd Party Combiners. They average 20"-23". They are completely articulated, down to the fingers.

I just found out about your channel and I gotta say, girl can I put a ring on it 🤣 I've been wanting this figure for such a long time and seeing it being played with makes me want it more 😫 I'm the kind of collector that focuses on detail so I have a smaller collection that I would like since I tend to skip poorly designed figures. Only make exceptions for really old series that while looking sorta bootleg are just classic. Honestly with this giant figure I would start crafting and building a diy display around it.

I saw him in a specialty shop in Lake George, NY about 10 years ago. I passed on him and, if I remember, he was in the $200+ price range. Size and storage was the main issue. But he really does look amazing.

In regards to massive figures... I know you are not into Transformers Laura, but Haslab's Unicron is beyond massive!
As far as actual poseable figures the haslab unicron is the only one that comes to mind
I've had that Balrog since it came out....it is HUGE!
I have this figure and the tail can be an issue. The peg that holds it in place is quite long but the end of mine snapped off. If you have one, I recommend you pose it leaning slightly backwards on its tail and on a wall to prevent it from toppling over.
I only know of a few figures that are at this scale. One of them, which I have, is Transformers Armada Unicron. His size class is, I believe called Titan Class and he's a planet-former. From the same line is the character Primus, also a planet-former. Other than that, there are things in the Heroclix/Horroclix table top gaming sets that have characters that size. There is Galactus, The Spectre and Cthulu.

I have seen this but probably will never own, there is a Unicron toy that is 30 inches tall when transformed in robot mode, so similar to the size of your good buddy Balrog. This Unicorn was crowdfunded and will be $575. It's called Transformers: War For Cybertron Unicron and it looks like it takes a good minute to transform from one mode to the other.
Lauranell would be a good elf name.
The biggest figure I own is the Jakks Pacific Godzilla which is 60cm high by 90cm long (24''' by 36''')

@Loaf Of Bread 0o I don't have to boil water to get the joints to move on my Hasbro figures though. I have Neca figures, but they don't have a giant Sentinel in the same scale of my Marvel Legends X-Men.

This Balrog, along with the big Millennium Falcon and AT-AT are things I kick myself for not investing in all those years ago.
That figure is incredible...and the Balrog isn't bad either. I really like that outfit but I'm not sure why...maybe it's the ears...nah, I don't think it's the ears...not sure what it could be then...oh well, I'm sure I'll figure it out sometime...😁
Also, back in 2015 the Combiner Wars Titan Class Devastator came out, & not only is that thing 2 feet tall as well it can split into its 6 individual component Transformers. So, in that instance you're getting SEVEN toys IN ONE.
Point is, Balrog may be impressive as an LOTR toy, but it's rather average when it comes to mega-toys in general.
(By the way, I don't think you can call something that big an "action figure." To be an action figure, you'd have to actually be able to play with it, & make up your own scenarios that you then act out on your own. This looks like something you'd only be able to use in a stop-motion homemade movie of some kind.)
I’ve had this guy since it’s original release. It is amazing but make sure to support the wings. Whatever material they used for the joint where the wings connect to the body breaks down over time. Also the tail joint is very fragile. Mine broke so be careful. Otherwise it is an awesome figure. Plus you need to get the talking Gandalf to complete the Bridge of Kaza-duhn set b
One of the Holy Grail figures for sure, congrats! I wish I hadn't passed on that when it was at retail. Gandalf laughs. You should not have passed... Also, I love the idea that the Balrog destroys other figures when it falls upon them, seems fitting.

I did get this when it first came out and still have it in storage. Its def a knarly figure. Its so big that there isnt actually official "Packaging" for it, it only came in the shipping box and was one unit per box. It did require assembly, and because of the weight alot of the "joints" are always loose, mines is loose around the arms specifically as they're just inserted with pegs to keep the arm in place for the ball joint to function.
That said I had no ideal they're going for so much already, I think when I picked up mine it was only $200 so good to know what the going rate is now. I work in the Toy bizz and work with alot of collectors here in SoCal and I've def seen alot of used ones pop up over time. If they come across I can def flag it to you if you want to pick up another one for cheap so you and your bro can each have a Balrog lol.
In fact I might be up to give up mine, as the poor thing used to be on display at my old apartment, but has spent the last few years just stored in a box. Poor guy. Thats def a great piece for a LOTR fan though. Great acquisition.

The Neca 1/4 Predators! I have 4 of them and are very big figures with 21 inches tall no so big as that magnificent piece but are one of the biggest figures i ever see!

jaks pacific did a line of action figures that were 20-30 inches tall, and they did two TMNT figures that were 42 inches tall.
Balrog is one of my "favorite" pieces in my collection. I believe "Jakks Pacific Toys" put out a 48" Ninja Turtle Mikey and Leonardo figure. I have Mikey. He's pretty Awesome as well. Great video!!!

The only toys comparable to this size are the Jaaks Pacific movie Godzilla at 24” tall x 40” tail, Haslab Transformers Unicron, and the forthcoming Marvel Legends Sentinel at 27” tall. (And here is another vote for Arual as your LOTR name. )

Funny story i got the Legolas brand new in the box from 2001 for only five dollars bc the woman selling it didnt know anything about LOTR and she said " Um... five dollars?? I have the NECA 18" Pacific Rim Knifehead. It's 18" with a 24" arm span. It's huge and heavy and would look miniature next to the Balrog
