Does anyone think this series was necessary? Will Willow it appeal to the new generation?
Complete unnecessary in my opinion. It was "of its time" and does not warrant a sequel. It would be like making a Waterworld sequel.
Maybe. It will be through the older crowd passing it down.
Na not necessary. Just another thing for disney to ruin.
I don't think it was necessary. The original was a campy, fun adventure. But this preview makes it look like Willow if it were in the GOT or LOTR universe.
It's a George Lucas movie and he never disappointed anyone.
Willow, Legend, The Never-ending Story and The Dark Crystal are where it's at. That was a great overview!
With Krull and Labyrinth
Yes, I forgot about that one, 💖✨ the 80s produced most of my favourite fantasy films, I still love watching them with my kids, who are in their 40s and they do the same with their kids, the only thing I've seen close to those lately is "The Christmas Chronicles" with Kurt Russell. Fairy tales for every age and generation. 😁👍
@@gnarlux Yes! Three generations of my family love that film, both my kids and grandchildren watch it over and over and are still enchanted by it. 😊
Princess Bride
Huge "Willow" fan here and, like you, I think they're going for a younger demographic which isn't good news for the older fans. Disney Plus hasn't been doing much to impress me, lately, but they could turn it around with this. We'll see.
Lets not forget that it will probably be completely female centric and Willow will most definitely be a back ground character likely having very little scenes.
Let's not forget there is nothing wrong with female centric and Willow has always been about its strong female characters. Get out with your sexist bs.
@@Kensie2559 Let's not forget it's called "Willow" and that's who the lead character should be if Disney is going to try to cash in on the fanbase.
@@Kensie2559 Please stop with the "strong female" bull shit just say "female". You never hear "strong male" character. Strong female character is just code word for " as a female you are not allowed to criticize me or anything I do because I am a female". Yes female centric is an issue when the original was not male centric or female centric but focused on both. If you remake Wonder Woman I do not want to see a bunch of male amazons plus the story is now focused on Wonder Woman's male friend (do you see the issue in that).
@@Kensie2559 yea the movie named WILLOW was all about he strong women and not the little guy who saved the girl…. Fuck…..
I was one of those people who had never really seen Willow until recently. I think Laura's relentless promotion finally wore me down. It was great! Thanks LL!
Wish you could have seen it as a kid it blew my mind. My sisters would be cracking up then hiding another scene.
Just watch the original. This is gonna be horse crap just like everything else they made. Sure the first few seasons might be good but it'll turn to shit like everything else they own.
Willow without Madmartigan isn't the same plus the original movie ended perfectly imho.
I enjoyed the Willow film. I thought it told a good story and it was funny at the same time. I think this is long over due for Warwick Davis and am glad this is coming out.
Warwick Davis makes me smile, one thing I love about the original movie was his great lead performance, but will this series make me care about any of the other characters, that I'm worried about.
7:18 You could totally pull off the 'librarian-who-lets-down-her-hair-and-takes-off-her-glasses-and is stunningly pretty' thing.
Remember seeing Willow in theater as a young kid. Man did it blow my mind. My only issue with this is the TV format. But I hope they do this well.
"Cold, dry and angsty" sounds like a dc comics movie.
The apes with the 2 headed thing that comes out was pretty disturbing as a child. Then that claymation. Pretty crazy.
I remember when Willow first came out and seen it a bunch of times as a kid and teen. Watched it again for the first time in over 20 years last year on Disney+ and it still holds up! Looking forward to the new one!
I don't give woke disney my money.. I'm hoping they don't ruin this but it isn't looking 100% kosher...
I've watched willow for years. Got the dvd and watch out frequently.
I am currently watching Willow for the first time, I had never even heard of it until I started watching your channel Laura, thank you! It's great so far!
Coincidence, I rewatched "Willow" a couple of months ago (for the 4th time). And I still love it--the actors made the characters so real and special; perfect cast.
Watching this trailer with you was wonderful, and I agree with your observations. Also hope they keep the humour, while maintaining the serious thread.
I might get some Blackroot out of the freezer while watching the serious---yummm.
You've only seen it 4 times?
I've watched willow for years I have the dvd.
I've seen it too many times on TV since it came out, and frequently after having the dvd. It was my go to a well before PJ's LOTR. HOPE THEY HAVE THE ACTORS THAT PLAYED MEGOSH AND VAHNKAR BACK!! With the two brownies, who were they?? It didn't look like Franjean and Rool!!
Burgled died in 05, and Val Kilmer has throat cancer sadly.. these I can excuse.. maybe. But growing up with something you love, its like a family reunion taking place especially this late! They'd BETTER respect the origin movie its actors and the books!! If not, BOYCOTT DISNEY!!
I was 25 when I saw this in the theater. Now I’m 59 and still enjoy WILLOW! It was a very under appreciated film in its day. I’m with you though. I don’t do a lot of teasers and trailers. If I want to see a film I’d rather go in cold not knowing anything about it. I enjoy movies more that way. When I was young, movies didn’t the plastering of promotion and exposing every detail. So when the movie started, you’d just sit there and be like…”oh! So that’s what a spaceship (or an alien or a world) looks like!” You’d feel that way cause you hadn’t seen ANY OF IT before and everything was new. I miss that, a lot. Great video and thank you Laura for posting.
Willow is nostalgic and classic underrated sci-fi movie
Wasn’t expecting this tonight but it’s always welcome 🤗🥰
Willow is just Star Wars with a "fantasy" coat of paint on top.
Definitely need to check out the og, but this seems like an interesting series! You've definitely sold me on Willow!
Laura love the collections and love your toy reviews your awesome in case no one hasn't told u yet :)
I appreciate the time you put into the research of the storyline and characters. of course long time willow fan and waiting anxiously for the return.
This cool video laura legends
I am super thankful for the new Willow series because it introduced me to the original movie and now I am head over heels in love with it. I don't know why I didn't see it growing up as a 90s baby but I'd never heard of it. It's now one of my favorite movies of all time. It feels like LOTR and The Princess Bride made a baby. Which are also other favorites of mine.
I saw it opening weekend on the big screen when I was nine years old. Love the movie! Was one of my favorite movies as a kid! Still enjoy watching it on Blu Ray . Looking forward to seeing the series someday. But I have a feeling it will not live up to the 88’ movie . It seems that magic of movie making , and storytelling has past on ! I rather read a book, or watch the movies that I grew up with . Than stream series online, or go to the movies. I go to the theater’s maybe twice a year. I saw The Batman, and will go see Top Gun 2 . Redbox is a cheap way to be entertained on movies that are not worth buying, or seeing in person. But choose wisely for there is a lot of hype movies that are garbage.
The trailer felt like the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon beginning... It was nice to see Willow again...
I so wish someone would do something with the D&D cartoon property. At least a nice six inch scale action figure line.
Im super excited to see this! I just hope they kept the humor in. Humor is so important to add depth and charm to the characters. I would love to see another Eborsisk dragon. How cool would that be!
i would much rather have your in depth analysis than the typical youtuber "reaction" great video, i'm pumped for this series now!
The first time I saw Willow, it left me wanting more. But I could tell by the bare bones marketing that wouldn't happen anytime soon.
This came up in my feed so rather new here. There was an awful lot of emotion for a straight face review. I love that people still remember and love Willow.
Nice work. Im glad you watched it. :)
Hearing you say I don’t do reactions to trailer Is the best thing ever
James Horner tragically passed away several years ago. Just letting you know, because you discussed him in the present tense.
Love your willow videos, big willow fan. I did really read the shadow trilogy fully and wanted to comment the ending was satisfying
Laura you are totally awesome
“I’d rather have any content than no content at all”- can’t really say that about Episodes 7, 8, and 9 of STAR WARS 🥺
I have never seen a bigger fan of Willow than you, I need a Willow podcast now 😁
It’s been such a long time since I saw Willow… but seeing this teaser trailer really has me excited to see what they are going to do. I may have to rewatch the original as well before the new series comes out.
In a recent interview Warwick said there's no acorns but lots of magic and he was happy to get a staff :)
I like the idea of Willow being the wise mentor in this show... but I'm also pretty sure there's gonna be jokes. The "reveal" of the show was just Warwick roasting the rest of the cast after all ^^
This new willow series looks great! I can't wait to see it.
I'm a Warwick Davis fan so I'm stoked to see him back as Willow!
I watched Willow for the first time 2 years ago based off of your enthusiasm for the film! Thought it was great!!
Yet again Laura manages to look even more beautiful!
😍
I am more excited for this series than anything I can remember in 20 years
Thanks for sharing
Love the movie & I'm looking forward to watching the series😁
Willow was a great movie. Still watch it.
You can tell the cast of the original 1988 film had a lot of fun during production. It had heart, humor, and cliffhangers!!! One wonders if this new show will have the same impact, but I doubt it.
I had a coloring book of willow back then. I remember watching the movie my mouth was wide it blew my mind as a kid.
I'm a huge Willow fan, although the polymorph scene scared the crap out of me when I was younger. I think the teaser looks pretty promising! I'm hyped and hope they do a great job. Also, there's no way they'll release it all at once, so be ready for that.
I love that finn razel came out being an old woman. She was stuck as a chipmunk that long!
Willow, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and The Princess Bride are my all time favorites growing up.
I remember when Billy Barty came to our school right before Willow to promote it. I was 7 or 8 years old and it was at the library in Fullerton, Ca. There were like 25 people in my class and he read to us and talked about the movie, so fast forward I have always been a fan of Willow because of him. I remember asking him about Masters of the Universe (was a huge fan) and he got a kick out of that. Cool to see it get a revival.
Grew up with Willow! So many great memories
Willow is a classic, but I wouldn't say I am as much a fan as the lovely Laura. I definitely appreciate hearing your thoughts, you notice a lot that I was unable to spot. Great video as always! :)
Just a little bit of behind the scenes info, the old man standing behind Sorsha in the end of the movie is actually the king and Sorshas dad! It was in a scene that got cut but Ron Howard mentioned it in a behind the scenes video I saw a while back!
As for the books, I think the big problem people have with them is that they took the story in a very different direction than what everyone expected them to go with it. I mean I, for one, thought they would be more in the vein of the movie style but it went in a direction that was way darker than I expected. But once I got over that, I actually grew to like the books!
Absolutely. If only because it’ll bring Willow into our stream of consciousness. It’s the ultimate forgotten movie.
I love the movie & I can't wait for the series. I hope we get to see lots of the original characters/actors. This trailer made my weekend. :)
Willows one of my favorite all-time movies! I am so excited for this! This was long overdue for Warwick Davis!
I’m going to have to watch willow. Never seen or heard of it till your videos. And I’m a kid of the 80s. Thank you
Willow is part of my childhood I always wanted them to make a extended story I’m so excited
I'm going to assume willow is the co star in his own series, seem to be the new trend. Lol
I think one of the problems of modern fantasy in cinema is that the writers/directors always try to make everything a "Doom Epic", with stakes too high from the beginning, instead of the more personal stories (like in the 80s/90s), so theres little room for lighthearted tones in a serious story.
On the plus side, this trailer looks polished, good CG and scenery. I hope this is gonna be a good one.
6:20 xD Laura- "Brownies!!" i said the same thing the exact same way in my head ;D. tbh this is first time i watched trailer too :D.
I love the original movie. Seen it so many times. I didn't even know about the series so thank you for that. Also the original movie teaser trailer has been stuck in my head since the 80s
Really don't like how Warwick is being made a side character in his own series (which is becoming a hideous trend in Disney + Productions), you'd think Hollywood would have learned a thing or two about its treatment of Little People.
Disney learns literally nothing. Theres almost a spite in everything they do now.
@@purphexyon it’s intentional spite
Honestly wanting to see a worthwhile fantasy series, loved willow and this could be a great series. Here's hoping.
Growing up I never even heard of Willow it wasn't until I started watching you that's what made me want to watch the movie in the first place and now I really want to try this Series out
I remember seeing Willow in the theater when it came out, and LOVED it!! It was an awesome adventure movie! I never knew about the book trilogy. I will definitely give this a try!
“Did you see what he did. He stole our blackroot.”
I read the books years ago, and, spoiler, Madmartigen and Sorsha die in a cataclysmic event involving a dragon. The entire castle gets wiped from existence.
It was a slow burn, but the books did well to explain the story. It will be interesting to see if they keep to the story line.
"I'm not gonna have like ten emotions"
**proceeds to have like ten emotions**
This video surprised me. You know a lot more about the original movie than I expected you to and I'm glad you decided to be honest with your reaction to the trailer and didn't overact like so many people do, I find it hard to believe their reactions are genuine. I'm very glad you talked about the music, the original had some absolute bangers! Although I'm surprised you didn't mention the village party music that plays at the beginning and during the end credits. That music is a symphony of good times, wholesomeness and warmth like it's just fun to listen to.
I think the one thing you said that I disagreed with quite a bit actually is that you'd rather something have content even if it's bad than for it to have no content. Perhaps the reasoning for this is that if it's getting some attention, then at least it's getting the spotlight for awhile and people can go back to the original. The problem I have with a show or movie getting bad content, especially one as niche as Willow, is if the show is bad then the chances of them making another show or movie that is actually good after this one is very, very slim. It's like if the fans want a good Willow show then this is likely the only chance they'll ever have of getting one. I can't imagine they'd be willing to invest more money or time into this story if this series flops or has a mostly negative reception.
As the Willow franchise stands now it has one good or great movie depending on who you ask and a not so great trilogy of books. If this show is decent then they have an added 6 - 8 episodes of decent content under it's belt so a beloved movie and a decent new series, if it's bad then have 3 mediocre books and 6 - 8 bad episodes to work with the next time they look at the franchise again. If this show is bad, I can't see them taking the Willow franchise out of storage again for a loooong time.
You really should read the Chronicles of the Shadow War. It starts rough because of the difference and evolution from the film, but it is just an expansion of the greater universe. I really dug it.
I have been a huge Willow fan FOREVER!!! I'm excited to see the series but I think its just capitalizing on our nostalgia like so many other projects.
My mom loved Willow, so I showed her the trailer for the new show thinking she'd get excited. Her primary reaction was "they're going to ruin it".
I see where I get it from now.
Out of the way Peck!
Madmartigan was my idol as a kid when it came out lol.
I loved Willlow when I was younger. I even got the NES game as soon as it came out. I'm looking forward to this series.
I grew up watching Willow and Indian in the cupboard wow times do fly can’t wait to watch this ❤️
I just looked it up and he was 17-18 when he played willow. He was soo young!!!!
Warwick Davis has his own quiz show on UK TV called 'Tenable', that's what he's probably best known for to Brits, or maybe the Ricki Gervais series 'Life's Too Short'. Nice to see Zero from 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', and Enfys Nest from 'Solo' :)
I watched Willow so much I wore out my VHS copy.
It was good back then and good now. I look forward to watching the series.
Willow be my jam. Love it. Excited for the series and for Warwick.
loved Willow and will be watching
I looked online and yes Val Kilmer’s Madmartigan Is in Willow Disney+ Series.
Willow still to this day is one of my top fantasy movies.
Grew up on willow.
I love 80s fantasy epics.
"My last good pair of glasses" lol
They release this teaser in just enough time to get people worked up about it to rip the series to shreds on November 30.
I really like the expression on the thumbnail lol 😂 😆 😂
Willow is a classic that's still enjoyable today as it was when it came out didn't need a follow up but glad they have and it has a lot of the original cast so it's good they've done this
Epic thumbnail!
Was looking for more willow content and… not really much on the you tube your stuff is the best seems like you’ve cornered the market ….! More please
The girl with the frizzy red hair was Elfy's nest in Solo a Star Wars story.
I loved the movie I grew up with it cant wait for the series
5:02 You’re the best. 😂👊🏻👌🏻
That's how we felt with Ghostbusters, our heroes are older now.
Will really a willow fan too
Looks great, love the movie also
