@@jemert96 they used to do quality material really. I work at a auto parts warehouse, and more often than not, complaints of parts not working seem to mention that the clients returned whatever didn't work, bought an original part, and it was perfectly fine after that. They might be more expensive, but goddamn do you see a huge upgrade in even perceivable quality, let alone the thing actually working, and for a lot of time aswell.

Great engine - bought a £500 Mk.2 Golf with the same 1.6td and took it up to 324,000 miles....original clutch and gearbox. Never had any hesitation in taking it on any journey including several abroad.

Changing the timing belt is the first thing i would've done, knowing it's at least 17 years old it could crack once the engine fires up. Doesn't cost much and is quite easy to change on a car like this.

External timing belts are better than internal timing chains in my opinion. I say this because my old car had a timing chain which broke. It was more expensive to repair than the value of the car, so it obviously ended up in the junkyard. Although a metal timing chain may seem more durable, it’s more difficult to repair or replace when it fails, necessitating complete disassembly of the engine. As for an external timing belt, it may be more susceptible to failure, but it’s outside the engine, and so even a novice mechanic could change it in a flash.

    • @PuerRidcully
      @PuerRidcully 2 роки тому +1

@@MrSupercar55 Also depends on the manufacturer. There are some in which timing chain is practically indestructible and there are some in which guides/tensioners fail before 100k km. But yeah, I can do my timing belt, but honestly, I wouldn't even bother with a chain, especially if it's from the firewall side.

My parents had the 1.6td motor in a '90 saloon when I was younger. The car went on forever, great characterful motor and lovely refined drive. Turbo lag was dramatic so you had to work the box to get it (and keep it) spooled up, but for a 1.6 diesel lump in a big, heavy car it wasn't bad at all.
'80s/'90s VW diesels are highly underrated, I have the straight six D24TIC motor in one of my Volvo 940 estates, and it's a beast of a machine.

The car still runs and has over 450K KMs. I wish VWs were made like this these days. Back when bosses did not have to put much in design, because real men shit on design and open the hood.
But feminists have created hate to everything what stands for men.
Equality is a one way road. If you don't agree, look up your rights as a father, if the decides to say just no. Look it up very closely. Very equal. But go ahead raise boys without a father. Cause we need more of Habeck, Hofreiter and Roth. True experts of their game and rightfully in the Upper-class of the country. This are people who are the living proof of failure of some illusions... Listen to Claudia Roth and what an amount of pure crap and lies she told over the years. She once stated to be sexually assaulted by a man. Sure look up this beauty surely everyone wants to share his bed with. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Feelings and reality seem to give the women big trouble.
They will show it almost everytime, if they don't get their will or you forefit yours.
But they feel morality wise so much in top of every man for all the men did to they women over the last million years. True winner mentality and a great character to show for a person in administrative and leading positions, like manager.
Never seen a women demand a job at court for a construction company. But women exactly know, when to play which card. They even lie on little things just to get it quiet. Says a lot about the character on that...

German cars of the 80s and 90s will work hundreds of years later (unless fossil fuels are depleted!)
The engine started with just a few simple tools and a few liters of oil. If the current automobile covered with electronic devices is left unattended for 17 years,
it will cost expensive repairs. Parts needed for repair would also have been discontinued.
This is why cars like this are still so popular in many countries :)
The 2020 Tesla will probably be in the junkyard around 2035! Hahaha
