THANK YOU for this video!!! I had never ordered embroidery/cricket designs from etsy before. I was tired of using what was only on my machines. So, I jumped in head first and ordered 17 designs. Needless to say I didn't know what to do after that. I was stuck. For 2 days I watched UA-cam videos that only confused me. I am computer illiterate. This morning I watched a few more. Then I found this one!!! I will never be able to thank you enough. I have downloaded every file and they are organized!!! Blessings to you.
Lady! Where have you been. You are a blessing. Thank you so much 😊! I was getting frustrated with my computer. Now I understand how to unzip and organize my files. Thank You!! 😊
I did this (on my own, amazingly!). I saved them o to a 2 terabyte external hard drive. "You'll never fill it up" he said. "It will save your files in case your laptop ever crashes" he said. Well, I had the thing less than 1year, had ALL of my files in it ( several thousand dollars worth of files) and the darn thing crashes. Lost them all. I can still go back and redownload all of them, if I can remember where all I I purchased from. So aggravating. I had saved all of mine in categories. I did not have a master file as you suggested. Grrrrrrrrrrr
I just got a Brother PE535 embroidery machine, and still trying to learn how to put my downloaded patterns on my machine, Thank you so much for explaining it so easy for me. You're a Godsend.
Thank you,it will be so much easier now.Plus I can come back and follow along while your showing me again. The older I get makes it harder for me to remember everything .Thank you.
This helps a lot. I have had a difficult time figuring out how to download embroidery files to Windows 10. Now I can watch your instructional video on my tablet and download files to my laptop.
What a help! I just downloaded all the designs I purchased from you, and thought I put them where they belonged. But NO! Now I can’t find them. In fact, somehow I lost your folder! I have looked as much as I can, but will need my husband or son’s help to retrieve them where I accidentally hid them. This makes so much sense, and I tried to do something like this, but this tutorial is very helpful. Thanks so much for this and all your great designs. I just started machine embroidery and also appreciate how you sell your designs. It really helps to have all the sizes available and at such great prices. Thanks for all you do.
I would like to thank you for all the information, I had some knowledge of transferring etc and now I am more clear in understanding the correct procedures from begining to end of opening Master Folder to categories, a great help and lovely to listen to. thanks again
omg thanks you so much for sharing this information I am just start my journey with embroidery and I know nothing. What is very odd is that Viking doesn't offer the detail information you just shared, I expected more from them since their machines cause thousands of dollars and there was no manual or books to buy like Babylock offers. Thank you again I have had the machine Ruby for two years and have done nothing now I feel there is somewhere I can go and watch the videos. my sincere gratitude
This is a fantastic bit of information for those of us who are not very computer savvy. Thanks so much. I use PE-Design Next and this will only enhance my experience. I also appreciate the part about "zipped" folders. You made it clear what needs to be done.
Julie, thank you ever so much for this informative tutorial! I just got my Brother PE-770 last week and have quickly become mired in downloaded files. I spent yesterday afternoon trying to make sense of my downloaded mess! :O Thanks to your tutorial I am now organized and can find things with ease. Ahhh ... the calm it brings. :)
I wish I had this knowledge 3 years ago when I first started I did begin at first trying to organize but quit after awhile now I have thousands of files & it takes me forever to locate them I will be doing it this way going forward thanks this is an awesome video!
Love, love, love this video! It was so easy to understand. I finally found the video that "I get". Your step by step instructions turned on the switch in my brain. I have watched dozens of other videos that were so hard for me to understand. You did it in the baby steps that I needed. You are an awesome teacher. Thank You!!!
Your video was so well done--very clear instructions. I have already created two files, as you suggested. By the way, I LOVE your site and have already purchased lots of designs. Thanks too for the freebies, especially the scripture verses. I pinned one to give you some free advertising.
Great video - just getting started and this takes all the anxiety out of transferring designs by usb to my Janome. Will save this for future reference as I'm sure I'll need to come back several times. Thanks so much.
Hi Marie, You must have an embroidery machine in order to use machine embroidery designs. You must have embroidery software in order to open the designs. Windows does not recognize embroidery design formats so you need to open the designs within your software.
can you show a close up shot of how to move which files to the usb, I just got my first machine a pe770 and have no idea how to much particuler files to the usb, ive just been moving the whole file to the usb please help :(
I was one of those individuals who was struggling to save downloads and figure out how to unzip and save. You saved my life! Thanks! My only other question is that downloads always have numbers attached to the files. How do I get a quick view to see what they are so I can rename them?
Hi Julie, Thank you so this helped a bunch, here's a question tough, If now that I have unzipped and I would like to do a stack font design do I have to purchase a Embroidery Software to this? thank you
Thanks for posting this. I didn't know how to extract files, well, determine what to do with them to get them ON to my embroidery machine. Now I know! Thxs. It was very thorough. Do you have video that shows how to read them on your machine? Like the stitch colors and/or what to do after you have loaded t hem in your machine?
Do you own Embird and did you purchase the plug-in for "Iconizer"? If so, and it is installed, I believe you need to set it up. I would refer you to the Embird site and you can email their support to help you with that.
I remember being told not to save things on the desktop (at least not for an extended time). I think the reason was that those files get lost if the computer crashes. You must remember to include the Desktop in your Backup routine.
One other thing you may want to do once you have gotten your embroidery file off of the thumb drive or off of your computer (if you are using a cable) is to save the file to your machine just in case you happen to have to shut it off for any reason. This SAVE button icon is just off the screen at the bottom right on most Brother machines. It sort of looks like a pocket icon.
Thank you for this clear instruction. My computer was worked on and I lost my files, tho they were backed up on cards. I bought an external hard drive, and I tried to put them on that. I can't find things now, and I needed help. I think I will be able to clean things up now. I have MANY designs! I have been printing up my designs, with the color thread chart. I noticed that you got a thumbnail with yours. Is that the Embrilliance Thumbnail software? If so, do you have to go back to the website each time to get the color chart?
You can also extract any zip file by right clicking on the zipped folder and clicking EXTRACT ALL. Now if you happen to want to zip these files back up for later use or to send to someone, just pick the files by left clicking on the .pes file, then holding down the CTRL key and left clicking the text file and the picture file, usually a .JPG or .TIF or both, now release the CTRL key and 3 files (possibly more) should be highlighted. Now right click one of these files and click on SEND TO: and a popup will show and then left click on COMPRESSED ZIPPED FOLDER. This will make a zipped folder for you right in that directory with the same name as the files that are in it. :-)
Good video but I would suggest NOT having your 'master folder' on the desk top. Create it somewhere in your User folder and then have a 'shortcut' on the desktop. If your computer/devise crashes etc, you're likely to lose all the files if in a desktop folder. I appreciate more complicate to show on video but much safer practice. Otherwise, great video :)
Hi I'm a Newbie this information is so helpful thank you! Love the pillow book design❤ After I filed designs I tried opening the design it wants to open in internet explorer but my computer is warning me...confused😟
Hi Julie, thank you so much for your help, but now I have downloaded a trial version of soft bro and I made a stack name design and I wanted to embroider the name but my new problem is that it does not transfer to my embroidery machine. My Brother HE1 does not have the capability of using a stick drive but I have to use a cable to transfer and after I have transferred the design to my embroidery folder I then try to upload in my machine but it does not show up on the screen. Could you please help me ...pretty please...thank you
Hi Julie, I'm doing everything you've said to do. when I downloaded one of your free designs I didn't get the option to open as, I got the option to open, always open files of this type, and show in folder. which I click onto the show in folder. Then I try opening the file and a bunch of different art, dst, exp, hus, jef, pcs, pes, sew, vip, vp3,xx, opened in different sizes and it's telling me to look for an app in the store... Can you please help me? tia. btw I need 4x4 I just bought the brother PE540D machine. And want to add designs to my machine to do embroidery/applique. I've never done embroidery before. so, total newbie here.... And do I need a usb stick? can't I just leave it in the computer file and use the files as needed without saving it in the usb stick or in the membroidery machine?
I don't know if this video is out of date, but I thought my computer was out of date too. That video was so confusing, I couldn't make it work on my computer, and I just confused me even more. I need so much help with this!
This helped me and I subscribed. I will begin the filing, but I am still wondering....because I watched another of your videos about EMBIRD/ICONIZER....and understood that my files will still not show pic of what it is .I thought when unzipped and opened I can see them? I have downloaded so many free ones that only have #'s and I want to name them. I will check out your site now.
Hello, I am in the markeet for an embroidery machine. So far I like the Brother PE770. I only wish it had more needles and embellished a longer area. I want to write on gym bags. Anyway, Do you know if more fonts could be loaded or saved to use on this machine. I also wish it had more options than sm. med, and, large for font sizes. I mostly want to personalize items. Any information or suggestions you could offer would be helpful. Want to spend less than $1000 right now.
hi, im new to embroidery, I just got the dream creator, and I haven't received my software. the question is can I download designs, and save to a usb drive, and then use on my machine like this?
Hello, I really likes your tutorial, thank you. I have no computer knowledge at all so i may ask my daughter for help. What I am having trouble with is finding a free software for my chrome laptop, to open the designs. Could you please help? Than you so much.
Hi there. May I ask how to open embroidery files (ART, dst, exp, hus, jef, pcs, pes, SEW, shv, vip, vp3, xxx) I just bought a pattern but don't know how to print it. Thanks so much

I do not know how to open it and put in my embroidery file can someone please help
Be aware that files stored on a /Desktop location are not as safe in the event of a computer crash. Find some way to back up your Embroidery master folder and you will be fine OR save all your designs in the DOCUMENTS directory.
Hi Julie. Thanks for the great information on transferring designs! I don't have Embird. My designs don't show an icon of what the design looks like, only the file number. Is there software that will display an icon? Who knows what design #LS1234566 was, even if I saved it in my "floral" folder? Thanks for your help!
There is an option to save or save as after you download. Then, you can delete the numbers and retype what you wan tin file name. or You can click to rename it once it downloads, you just go to your folder and click on the number and right click your mouse to rename it.

Hopefully this will get me going. Is there anywhere that a picture of your saved files can pop up? I wouldn’t have a clue what all those numbers mean.
