This is by far the best lecture on Pre-Socratic philosophy I've ever heard. Bringing historical context to bear and that breakdown of Pythagoras was epic. Well done Dr. Russon and thank you for sharing.
I grew interested in Greek philosophy after a Literary Traditions class this year in college, your explanations feel easier to understand to me and really puts the history into perspective. Cant wait to watch more, thank you!
Followed your videos about Plato’s republic along with my first read of the book. I am a complete philosophy beginner at 60 years old.. you have helped me so much. Thank you. I am just starting this series too. You make the subject approachable and interesting
Great lecture, thanks. I liked how you sticked to concrete examples. One of the things I've noticed with reading the Greek philosophers (in translation) is that they are far more concrete than people give them credit for. They have been accused by some of being abstract or other-worldy (famously by Nietzsche) but I haven't found this to be the case at all -- at least not to their detriment.
I believe the book I'm reading from is *A Presocratics Reader*, edited by Patricia Curd and published by Hackett Publishing. You can order it directly from the Hackett Publishing website or from various used bookstores like Powell's Books or Abe Books, or from big online chains like Barnes and Noble or Amazon.
Thank you so much, enjoying your clases from Spain!

Watching it from India

That's great--where in India are you? (I'll actually be at a conference in Mumbai in January.)
