Not true if you are a Season Ticket holder, as I am. You have to buy a package for all three playoff levels, Division, Championship and WS. I have a block of 4 seats, and it runs about $23k this year. And if all games are not played, there is NO refund! Any balance from unused games is credited to the following year's season ticket package. The Dodgers keep the interest. That's the way it has always been done, sadly. It may be different for individual purchasers but this year some of those seats ran $1500-3000 on Ebay. If you bought a ticket for games 6 or 7 you might be out of luck if you were not the original purchaser.

I bought tickets for Game 6 (Nov 1) about a week and a half before the World Series began (October 15). They were actually on sale for all 4 of the final playoff teams (Dodgers, Mets, Yankees and Guardians). They are not sold as a package, you have to buy individually, although if you're a Season Ticket holder, you may buy tickets for all of your team's home World Series games if you choose, and you get first dibs before the general public does. If your team didn't make it or the games were not played, you get a refund. I got my Game 6 refund a week later (Nov 8).

Aidan seemed confused when they said Walker Buehler hadn't pitched out of the bullpen since 2018... Buehler is one of the Dodger's starters, he doesn't pitch relief but they used him for relief here because they wanted to really clinch that ninth inning.

  • @MMuraseofSandvich

Enrique "Kiké" Hernández started both rallies, and the Dodgers took advantage of errors and defensive misplays on the part of the Yankees.
Aaron Judge took his eye off the ball to anticipate his throw to 2nd or 1st base to keep Kiké in check, but that was enough to lose sight of the ball and drop it; he also tried to catch the ball lower than eye level, which is trickier than catching it at eye level or higher.
Shortstop Anthony Volpe didn't have a very good play except to 3rd base as Edman likely got a good jump. So he rushed a throw to Jazz Chisholm, but Jazz only started playing 3rd base this season, and Kiké Hernández was sliding hard to try to break up the play. All of these combined resulted in an error charged to Volpe. One error is uncommon in the major leagues, but two in consecutive at-bats is absolutely shocking, it's like Little League stuff.
Gerrit Cole, being the badass Yankees ace he is, proceeded to strike out Gavin Lux and Shohei Ohtani.
First baseman Anthony Rizzo fielded a ground ball from Mookie Betts. Cole started running towards first base (he later said he was trying to cut off the ball but misread it), then stopped and pointed at first base, directing Rizzo to run to first and get Mookie out. The problem, though, was Rizzo was further from the bag than the last time the same play happened, and he couldn't beat Mookie to the bag. Cole may have been tired at this point, he probably should have continued running to first to ensure the out, who knows.
And through that entire disaster of an inning, Yankees manager Aaron Boone appears to have forgotten the one thing that could have changed the momentum of the game: Visit the mound and give Cole a moment to catch his breath and assure him that he's got this, it's just one run, let's get that third out. This is in contrast with the bottom of the 8th inning, when Dodgers manager Dave Roberts visited the mound to check on Blake Treinen, then walked back to the dugout after Treinen confidently assured him he could get to 3 outs.
You might hear fans and commentators say that all 5 Dodger runs scored in the 5th are "unearned" runs. What they mean is, by the time the Dodgers score their runs, there would be 3 or more outs were it not for the errors or passed balls committed, so Cole would not be considered responsible for those runs (the offensive team _scores_ runs, the pitcher _earns_ runs under normal circumstances). Judge's dropped ball should have been out number 1, and Volpe's botched throw to Chisholm should have been out number 2. Cole then struck out two, making it "should have been four" outs, so any runs scored at that point are automatically "unearned". It's just a statistical distinction to compare the strengths of pitchers through a number called an "earned run average" or ERA, which calculates the average number of runs a pitcher earns per 9 innings. The lower this number, the better a pitcher is, usually. So even though Cole gave up 2 hits after the misplay with Rizzo, his ERA won't go up as a result.
And that, gents, is how the Dodgers became the first team in history to come back from a deficit of 5 runs and clinch the World Series victory. The Yankees, for their part, became the first team in history to force a 5th game after losing the first 3 games in the World Series. Tons of history was made this year, and what a time to be alive to witness it.

    • @Silence_Duder_Gooder

And Kiké was the table setter for the clincher. I think that guy should have garnered an honorary MVP award, if not for this series but for the entire postseason. And sure, during the regular season his batting average hovers somewhere around .230, but once the calendar flips to October, he's a BEAST! His entire postseason career shows us this fact! And sure, the Dodgers are probably going to release him, but I don't think they should.
I'd say forget about trying to get Soto and keep Teoscar in that lineup. The Dodgers won't have to pay him as much as they would Soto, and that could make more room for Kiké. I just don't want to give up a guy that does that in October! He's freaking amazing! And his personality reminds me of Mickey Hatcher from that 1988 team, their sparkplug during that magical season. You just can't put enough value on a player like that!

And to you're point, he did. What's interesting is that he wasn't expected to get a lot of playing time though. The Dodgers scouting report advised them to put the ball in play and run the bases aggressively. That would give the Yankees a chance to play poor defense and inflict self harm. The fifth inning of this game is now being called the worst defensive performance I'm World Series history.

  • @Silence_Duder_Gooder

3 errors in the fifth inning by the Yankees; all 5 runs scored with two outs by the Dodgers-clutch.
_"What the Dodgers told their players in scouting meetings was the Yankees were _*_talent over fundamentals. That if you run the bases with purpose and aggression, the Yankees will self-inflict harm as was exposed by Betts, Tommy Edman, Freddie Freeman, etc. That the value was very high to put the ball in play to make the Yankees execute._*_ They mentioned that the Yankees were not just the majors’ worst baserunning team by every metric, but the difference was vast on the field between them and the Padres, who the Dodgers beat in the NL Division Series, but were impressive in this area._
_"They were thrilled at how short Yankee leads were at first base to potentially be less of a threat on pivots at second, where Gavin Lux does not excel. _*_They said their metrics had the Yankees as the worst positioned outfield. They were amazed how many times relay throws came skittering through the infield with no one taking charge and how often Jazz Chisholm Jr., for example, was out of place or just standing still when a play was in action."_*

And while Cole should have covered first base in the 5th inning, Rizzo should have at least tried to beat Betts to first base when he looked up to toss the ball and no one was there, but he didn’t even try. I think there was poor communication, as well. They weren’t on the same page. I think something similar happened with the missed throw to third base by Volpe to Chisholm. Chisholm wasn’t expecting the throw because normally you’d throw to first to get the certain out. They weren’t communicating or Chisholm would have been ready. The time to communicate is before the play. “If this happens, I’m going to do this.”

Despite the Yankees having the 3rd best regular season record, they were not the best or hottest team. Mets, Padres were much tougher and the Dodgers far superior. The Yankees are heavy on home run hitters but lacked the bottom of the order talent. They are a slower lumbering team. Dodgers a better small ball, gritty, grinding team with great base running. They have big bats too but defense, pitching was better despite having four starts injured.

Tbh i felt Padres Series in the NLDS is the hardest series for them. Padres were leading 2 games to 1 and forced the dodgers to the brink of elimination too bad their bats went cold after game 3 3rd inning.
Mets were hot unfortunately Dodgers clawing out of the DS against padres made them tougher hungrier and grittier.
Then the yankees who were seen to have an easier path to the WS since both the DS and CS were against both AL central teams in which the yankees own.
In addition, an article about the dodgers pre game meeting in which highlighted on how bad the yankees base running, their fielding and stuff and knew if need be they need to play small ball and will have a good chance to beat the yankees

I know you guys are new to baseball but that play at first, the pitcher (Gerritt Cole in this case) really should have been at the base covering rather than stopping and directing traffic. Had he been there it would have been out 3 and it would have stayed 5-0 but then it allowed a run and then he was clearly gassed/thrown off because he allowed 2 more hits that got 4 runs in.

He waited for the ball to come to him rather than moving towards the ball. If he was charging the ball, he’d have the forward momentum to take him to first base. It’s still Cole’s fault, but it was lackadaisical on Rizzo’s part.

    • @Silence_Duder_Gooder
      @Silence_Duder_Gooder 24 дні тому

Yeah, and not to piss off any Brits reading this, but I've _tried_ to watch soccer, or as they call it, "futbol," a few times. I've watched league matches; I've watched World Cup games and found it mostly boring. Too much running around. It's like they decided to have a marathon on grass and toss a ball into the middle of it.
I used to _rip_ soccer fans for my views on their sport. But that was because immaturity was a thing for me. Growing older, I've realized not everything revolved around my circle. Therapy can do that for you. But I digress.
It's probably because we grew up in the United States and are used to our seasonal games that a lot of us just can't get into them. And sure, some people say that baseball is "boring," and I understand that sentiment, as I have seen some boring games in my days. However, I've also seen many exciting games, just like we witnessed in this postseason, and baseball plays a lot of games during the year.
But hey, to each their own.
