Best part is that the mistress, who didn't kill anyone, was not put in prison bc they didn't have evidence, but was seen as guilty by everyone anyways.
I really adore the way she talks about Country as a genre. She speaks about it in the Long Pond discussion bits and also in the presentation portion of the Grammy Museum thing, always with respect and appreciation.
I love that song so much too! He killed her best friend, so she got him back. Taylor is a huge fan of crime shows, so she told that story perfectly. I agree.
This song is from ‘Evermore’ the album after the one I highly suggest you listen to, ‘Folklore.’ I consider that one to be her renaissance album. While ‘Reputation’ re-birthed another side of Taylor, ‘Folklore’ brings her back to her stylistic roots, but reworked and matured. You see the evolution of her craft. With softer vocals, a lot of acoustic guitar play, and piano melodies, her voice shines while still sticking to the roots of what she does best, songwriting and storytelling.
It was so beautiful when the HAIM sisters came up at the Eras Tour to sing NBNC live for the first time, I was watching in a grainy streaming but I was screaming as if I was there
This song made me immediately remember “ Goodbye Earl”… a song put out in 2000 by the Dixie Chicks, now just known as The Chicks. Swift has performed that song with Chicks frontwoman, Natalie Maines and probably had a good old time creating her own sister-solidarity revenge song. ☺️
I think this is my favorite reaction from you! "Oh yeah he did it!" So emotionally invested already 😂 (This is one of my favorite songs of hers as well) Also, I love the pause at the part where she says she knows how to cover up a scene and I can see that you're thinking she's going to uncover some evidence that he did it, and then the huge twist comes and your jaw drops ❤😂
It IS time for an album. You need to start with Reputation. Trust me. I am not a Swiftie, but my daughter is. I came from old school gangster rap. She kept trying to get me, and she didn’t get me until reputation. Start there.👍😎
that's exactly what it's about, the secret to taylor's songs are the lyrics, always look at the lyrics, I love your reactions, a song I recommend is "this is me trying" by folklore
It’s so nice to see someone listening to this for the first time while knowing the twist that is coming :) so glad you enjoyed it! We love TS for a reason
I grew up listening to artists like Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, who write/sing songs in this particular style. I'd been wanting to hear something like this from Taylor for YEARS, so when evermore first released and I heard that harmonica/mandolin/lap steel, I SCREAMED. Easily my favorite song on the album.
If you're going to do an album, the "suggested" first one is Reputation because it's her edgiest album, but you've already heard a ton of those. Next one would be Folklore and then Evermore because they are true storytelling masterpieces. This reaction was absolute gold, keep 'em coming!
If you react to the Midnights album, it’s important to know that she describes it as a “concept album” about the things that keep us up at night. That’s why it’s a little all over the place. There are songs about karma, things left unsaid, old loves, insecurities, mistakes made… all kinds of stuff that keep us from falling asleep, past midnight.
I'm so happy you did this song and showed it the love it deserves! It's so underappreciated imo, even among Swifties I often see people say this is a skip for them and it just leaves me baffled. The storytelling through "show don't tell" is so clever and well done, I love the way the chorus lines are repeated so much but refer to something different every time (Este thinking her husband cheated, the friend thinking he killed Este, the police thinking the mistress killed him/ the mistress thinking the friend did it) - it's so easy to miss but once you catch on the storytelling technique is so amazing in this. Love the story, love the style, love the flow - and loved the reaction!
I have been watching all your Taylor reactions and a few others for months now. Today, I spent time catching up and this is the one that’s really brought me a big smile and a smirk, the most in a while! I needed that after a rough day at work. 😅 Thank you!
I have watched a hundred reactions to this song. Never before did anyone think that verse 3 was alluding to her killing Este- but somehow I knew from his expressions that’s what he was thinking. It was so fun to watch as he realized the final piece that she killed the husband.
Highly recommend the Reputation Tour as a full watch. Her performances in it are great..and you already liked her Don't Blame Me & Look What You Made Me Do from that tour.
If you love this, then you would love one of the classic country story songs by Reba, that's the night the lights went out in georgia. I am betting that Taylor was at least partly inspired to write the song this way because of her country roots and particularly this older song. As much as i love the Chicks, Goodbye Earl tends to get played for laughs and hide how sinister it really is, where Reba calls a spade a spade like Taylor here. It's an interesting story and lyrically creative, with a more stripped down melody and straightforward vocals to play up the point she's making. I don't understand how someone could listen to this and then think Taylor is a pushover they can safely cross or patronize. She straight up got away with murdering a guy who hurt her friend. She is keeping receipts, buddy! She will totally go to the mattresses. And yet, "Reputation" (iykyk). Proof that these people hear her, but they just don't listen. She wouldn't need to keep telling them not to cross her if they just listened the first damn time. Seems like she'll need one of these "warning, don't kick the cat" songs on every album just to reiterate the point. I bet we all know at least one from each of her albums. Not just savaging a specific person, but warning off everyone else in the process. It's so satisfying for all the "nice girls" and "sweet ladies" who tend to have their kindness disrespected. She's all sweetness and light until you cross her. So don't.
Excellent Reaction. I appreciate your candor. You are understanding the many aspects of what draws people to Taylor. Her lyrics and storytelling are central to that. Also, Este is the name of one of the three Haim sisters (the tallest one).
Love your reactions.❤️ It’s never too late to become a Swiftie. Personally, I was not a big fan until Folklore. When she recorded in her teens and early twenties, the songs were targeted to the same age group which was fine. I just was too old to enjoy them. I did like a few of the songs, for example Haunted. Reputation was great but the material in Folklore, Evermore, Lover and Midnights is so much more mature and interesting which makes sense because Taylor has grown so much in her storytelling. Her voice is so much fuller too.
YES OMG ALBUM REACTION!! i really think folklore is always the best place to start! it gets into her songwriting, storytelling, and has some hard hitting moments
fwiw, the detail about her boating license at 15 is probably fact; she moved to Hendersonville (Nashville suburb) at 13 and the new house had a boat dock (some old video clips of the neighbors fishing off the dock, lol.) In Pennsylvania, she lived on a Christmas tree farm, then in a townhouse in a West Reading suburb called Wyomissing. She used to tell interviewers that she liked crime shows (CSI used one of her songs, then had her cameo as the "murdered teen" sometime around 2009.) And she named a cat after a crime show detective. Este is one of the Haim sisters; When Taylor wrote the song, she called them up and asked for a restaurant name without telling them why; and they agreed to sing backup on it after they heard it. They were laughing about it later, bc this was the first time they'd ever appeared on the country charts (indie rock band).
Omg…. I do not have time to go down this Rabbit hole 🕳️ today…. Yet it’s my 4th song this AM. Discovering T swizzle genius in my 50s👏👏🔥🔥🤯 When she was very young on Ellen… I remember her saying a fear was being framed and being put in prison…. Cause “ look at me… I’d never survive “ Taylor you’d be Running that Prison… you Genius !!!how old is this song and when did she write it?????? Was that a Easter egg wayyyyyyy back then 👀👀 🤦🏻♀️🤯
When it starts to click your face is priceless!!! This is one of my favorites by her. Just because true crime is my jam and this is a musical version. I can see this episode in my mind.
THANK YOU! For recognizing her brilliance! People are constantly dragging her for being…her… but this is what she does and she is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT at her craft!
I've always been a Taylor fan not a fan of some of those radio hits but never a swiftie, this swiftie curated tour is showing me so many songs I never even heard! I've been binging your reactions for a whole day now lol
Your reaction was everything. I saw when i thought you got it but you were thinking Taylor was going to solve it bc she knows how to cover up a scene thus uncover it. So when you realized she was getting an eye for an eye..THAT reaction was everything. 😂
#ThatSingerReactions I soooooo wanted to see your reaction to this!!!! 5:10 your face right there was like mine! I was like Dang... Tay Tay will come for you!!! 6:17 this part she sounds like she is smirking with a glass of wine next to Este’s sister!!! Got him!!!!!!! Great reaction!!! Loved watching you!!! ❤❤
You been swiftied 😂It's been fun to see you from the beginning. Your reaction on vigilante shit was gold. She's a creative powerhouse like we've never seen
Oh my, been waiting for you to do this. LOL Singer, us girls do stick together. This is Goodbye Earl (Chicks) without the record company forcing the comedy.
If you're gonna do an album & like storytelling, I recommend Folklore Long Pond Sessions (she talks about each song then sings it) or Evermore (which this song is on)
The lyricism and storytelling across the entire folklore and evermore albums are TOP TIER. highly recommend full album listens to both! I mean all her albums are fire but these two are next level front to back
literally my favourite reacter to taylor is you. I just love everything about it. I can't wait for you to do Exile and All To Well (the eras tour performance ) 🥰🥰
Loved your jaw dropped expression when you got the twist. Taylor is an amazing songwriter and she did this one by herself, no co-writers, like most of her best and biggest songs.
It’s interesting to see that someone understand what is going on right away, because when I listen to that song for the first time I was like:😐 what is going on? Also me after listening to that song 10x: OOOH MY GOD SHE DID IT!!!!!!
2 people died and the mistress was framed. Taylor got away with murdering the husband.
Superior storytelling.
Best part is that the mistress, who didn't kill anyone, was not put in prison bc they didn't have evidence, but was seen as guilty by everyone anyways.
Taylor wrote an entire 'Dateline' episode into a song!
Bahahaha 😂
aaahhhh. if only real life karma is so visible. 😂
Right!!! The crime junkie in me was SO excited when I heard this. It's the justice we all want (right or not lol) for someone
@@Halez_7yes!!! Exactly this comment LMAO it's what he deserved
And her Fortnight video is like a Hitchcock movie!
It’s satisfying to watch someone who seems to understand immediately what’s going on. I love your little moments where you have to stop and sing
her storytelling is just awesome, that's why it's so important to listen to her lyrics, cause there are just real gems hidden
Yes!!!
Her storytelling..and The Way SHE SINGS.....EPIC!!!❤
Taylor started out as a Country artist. They are the true storytellers. You can hear the "Country" sound in the song.
😂
I really adore the way she talks about Country as a genre. She speaks about it in the Long Pond discussion bits and also in the presentation portion of the Grammy Museum thing, always with respect and appreciation.
@@DunningKrugerJnr still trying to figure out what is funny in that comment.

I’d say this is inspired by Dixie Chicks’ “Goodbye Earl”
This song is criminally underrated I was hooked the first time I heard it on spotify
Loved watching your reaction! "Taylor you evil b*tch." 😂 I love this song and so many others. Keep reacting to Taylor please and thank you. 😊
😂😂 I love his face when he says this!

you have to react to illicit affairs live because omggg you’ll love her vocals and emotion she puts into the performance
Omg yes. Illicit Affairs live gets me every time.
Has to be the angry version 😂
So glad I slipped this one in
Thank you for doing that! This made my night. 😂
Thank you Jaime!

Thanks Jamie (but you need to give him the all to well short film to make him a fan of that song too :) )
