Taylor listens to a LOT of rap, and honestly a lot of everything. She's a kendrick stan, many people talk about meeting her and she always spends 10 minutes talking about what she loves about their music so she's very much a student of the craft and definitely puts a lot of rap technique in her pop songwriting. If you want some true bars from baby Taylor you gotta listen to Dear John about her relationship with 32 year old john mayer when she was 19. There's a live performance from the Dear John tour that has some of the best vocals from her younger years.
For reals dude. We ALL listen to the lyrics, word for word. We pay attention to all the details which is why we love her. We look forward to what she puts out ❤. April 19, put that on your calendar. That's when her new album comes out: The Tortured Poets Department. We are all gonna be listening to that. It will be an eventful day 💯. We all prepare ourselves and cancel all plans for the album release. I tell my family to not bother me for the next couple of hours cuz my friend Taylor is dropping by 🤣.
She is a brilliant lyricist, and a master at metaphors. I agree with the recommendations to watch her live performance of this song on SNL. It is great.
Don't get too worried about ranking your favorites - the more you hear/Listen, the more you get to have different faves for whatever mood you're in or season, or day of the week, just let them rotate as the mood strikes!!
If you liked this you have to watch her SNL performance. Without doubt the sultriest performance she has ever done. Also their is a sax player by the name of Brendan Ross who does a instrumental cover which is stunning.
@@Violet316 He is utterly brilliant. Everyone who calls themselves a Swiftie should be subscribed to his channel. The biggest compliment I can pay him is that I think Taylor would love his work..
This is one of my favorite Taylor songs, I'm so happy you fell in love with it! Imo it's an extremely underrated song. I think you may be a full convert now - you're a Born-Again Swiftian!
False God is my number 1 on Lover. 🎷 & jazzy Taylor is A*MAZING!! Wish she would do more of that. We were blessed with her SNL performance. Midnights she went a bit with this vibe, but was a bit pulled back. Can y’all imagine if The Tortured Poets Department is a jazz album…or each “side” a different vibe???
The road less traveled… it’s definitely a vibe. You’re a Swifte. Get your card laminated. It’s official. You don’t like the teen boppy stuff but she’s 34 now. She’s so much more evolved and deeper than she was. Her old label muffled her. That muffle is odd and she’s better than ever. 🥰
We’ve been peepin’ this since the beginning!! I think many people think TS is just a trend or don’t delve deep enough into her music to realize what a genius she is. It’s been really fun watching you get deeper into her songwriting because I think her songwriting and bars are what captures Swifties the most. Her lyrics are filled with hidden meanings or outright metaphors. I watch a bunch of rappers react to her music on here and many of them say she is a pro at writing bars!
if you like these scheme/theme songs where she has one topic and just goes off with the references, I recommend The Great War, but Taylor actually does this quite often I would say.
Yes! We are listening, this is the whole reason we are fans. Honestly when people say they dont get why shes so popular they aren't listening like you are. She has so many fans because of the lyricism. She's best at dropping bars.
She's off her head man, in the best way possible! Fucking Queen!!!! The media only got one thing right about Taylor, "Taylor Swift IS the Music Industry"! Period!!!
Dude, I love you man! Most people haven't really been able to realize what it is about Taylor that is magic! You, on the other hand get it even if you're unaware it's happening to you. You nearly collapsed in tears listening to Exile, rightly so, but not for show. It's Taylor. The better person you are, the more righteous you are the more her music will move you because Taylor Swift is even more beautiful inside than she is outside. I'm a 73 yr old man. I have learned to acknowledge outstanding character in a person. She writes, sings and performs her own creations. Early on when she was 14 RCA offered her an artist development contract. After realizing it wasn't for her she walked away from RCA. No one would do that, it's nearly a guarantee in the door. Just do what they say and sing other peoples songs and behave. Her vision has been the same. She has alot to say and has become what destiny wants her to be. The brightest star in the universe. It's not just great melodies, outstanding phrasing, stories masterfully told and now that her voice is mature her singing is beautiful regardless of what you may hear elsewhere. No, it's something more, something spiritual that is lacking most everywhere else. The more I learn about Taylor Swift the more I admire her.
Her writing and exploration of styles, even if you don’t love every song, is brave. She doesn’t play it safe when it comes to that. She’s not a one trick pony like most pop music stars.
I feel like this is the song where you finally GET Taylor. The music and the voice are great - it’s the lyrics, the stories, that are the extra special sauce that keep us all coming back forever. Metaphors, colours, themes, it’s ALL there. Now listen to All Too Well 10 minute but focus on the LYRICS. Goes from a decent, ok song to an epic one.
If you like the religious imagery you should listen to Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve. It’s an extremely powerful song. It’s her looking back on her relationship with John Mayer who she dated when she was 19 and he was 32. She wrote it when she was 32. If you want extra context you can listen to Dear John at the same time. She wrote that one just after she dated him.
Also, this is why you should listen to any new music if hers with the lyrics pulled up on another screen. We all dissect them for the doubles, triples, and quads ❤
It's so nice seeing people new to Taylor's work discovering that she is an amazing lyricist/song writer. 💜We, the fans, have been saying it since her debut. Just a little background: she has been writing songs since she was 12 and before her debut album she had a contract with a record label to write songs for other artists... so, before she could even be a recorded singer she was getting paid to write for other people, as a teenager. Of course it was a more innocent romantic version of her work (also because she was a teenager and hadn't liiiiiiived yet), but it was already good enough to get paid for it. The talent was always there but with age and maturity she got even better. Anyways, loved your reaction! 🥰
The SNL version of Taylor singing this song is such vibe, its is my most favorite version of this ❤ the saxophone and her just go so dang well together ❤❤ It has a Jazzy vibe to it. I love how she just sways with the music
YAASSS!!! I love seeing you 'get it'. She's an amazing writer isn't she? Love the jazzy way this starts. The layered sexual and religious references, the many levels of meaning in her words, the story behind the lyrics. Her work is so multifaceted, you could get lost going down the Tay Lore rabbit hole. In this song Taylor clearly identifies the "False God" as the intense all consuming love between her and her partner. She compares their commitment to that of a devotee to their deity. Worshiping at the altar of my hips says that the sex they have together is so good it's like worship, like a religious experience. She's either learned or had a lover teach her the tantric practice of Extended Sexual Orgasm, a practice making sex so intense and drawn out it's hallucinatory, other worldly. It addicts you to your lover. This is obvious to anyone that's been there. Regarding the lines where she says she's New York then says he's West Village, West Village is inside New York. Unlike "Don't Blame Me", where sex and spirituality are also intertwined, "False God" suggests that Taylor recognizes the potentially unhealthy nature of this all enveloping, all consuming experience. This song is so intertwined with how she wanted Joe so badly, how she masterminded their meeting, how she got him to be her lover and how she was worshiping loving him as well as him worshipping loving her. She premiered this song on SNL 10/5/2019 with a slinky jazz sax played by Lenny Pickett. She also premiered "Lover" that night. You can see on her face how she's totally enamored of and loves Joe. You should react to those performances as well.
First part true. Way overboard on the second part. Her and Joe were in love. They met at the Met Gala but she started dating Tom Hiddleston after meeting him there also. When they broke up. They met again at a bar. Gigi sort of did the matchmaking. Maybe she invited him to the bar because Taylor asked her to. Gigi worked with him in the past. You made it sound obsessive.
I totally agree the live version on SNL with Lenny Pickett on the sax is sooo gooood. It has a sax solo the studio doesnt have. Yeah, it is the best version.

Another song that uses a specific imagery and is through out the entire song is "the great war" from midnights. Every possible visual related to war is there comparing it to an argument. Or at least a big fight (hence the great war).

I know vocals is usually the thing you care about most but I feel like you’re starting to realize why Swifties love her even when shes not always singing a necessarily crazy vocal song her lyrics are always great. She can paint a scene so well.
UGGGGHHHHH my favorite song. Well one of 10 favorites. She really has a way of putting together words. And I said on another comment on another video but she goes full commit. Her whole song will carry on the metaphor. Her clothes will turn into the vibe. Her face will adjust to suit the song. It's all in with her. But that's why I get annoyed with reactors who like try to constantly go back to her vocals. She has nice vocals but no that's not her strongest thing. I can admit that. She can't belt as big as others. But that's ok. She has great lyrics. That doesn't diminish other people who don't have as complicated lyrics. And saying she doesn't have as great of vocals as some other artists doesn't diminish all the other stuff Taylor does. Everyone has a strong suit.
I find rap fans get Taylor's lyricism in such a particularly special way.
