As someone about to set up for indoor cycling I have to disagree. I see I have the choice of kickr core + year of zwift (which includes either the virtual shifting and hub or a cassette) or for £600 more I can get no free year of zwift and this zwift ride frame, effectively making it £800 more if I want a year of zwift. And, to me, that makes no sense. Even if I didn't have a bike or I didn't want to use my bikes. I don't understand at all why this sku wouldn't include a free year of zwift. As for multiple people using it, I'm hesitant on that given the limited saddle fore/aft movement - others will complain about the fixed crank length too although I'm not convinced that is such a big deal. You know there's just about enough fore / aft on my saddles to fit them to a frame that's pretty damn close to the right size, for me. If I had to put someone else on my bike who was significantly shorter or taller and put the saddle in the right place? We're going to struggle without getting fancy seatposts etc. Look at the fore/aft saddle adjustment on a wattbike atom - that's what you need for "one size fits all" - and I bet without looking the other smart bikes are the same. You need something that slides back and forth by several cm not a few mm. And the irony is, if I get the kickr core + year of zwift with free cassette, I'm actually less tied into zwift even though I've effectively bought a year of zwift - than if I buy this, which I have to use on zwift, but they don't even include it in the (higher) price. That makes zero sense from a consumer pov. Even the kickr core + hub is easier to switch away to another platform whereas if zwift goes out of business or you find reasons not to use it, you have an expensive chocolate teapot that's shaped a bit like a bike in your garage - whereas if you got the kickr core, a year of zwift, cassette included and a bike, whatever a cheap hybrid - and then after a year of zwift you thought "It's not for me" you'd still have a bike you can use as a bike outdoors and that lots of people would buy because there's a bigger market for bikes than there are for zwift rides - and the trainer can be used on other platforms and someone would buy that.

Great review Shane, its time to take the covers off those crank arms and see if we can swap them, absolute deal breaker having only 170mm, makes me wonder if Zwift really understands serious cyclists
I have had this exact idea for a few years now! I think it’s a very good idea in principle. I would buy one when it becomes a available without the trainer as I already have that part!
Awesome work once again Shane. Love developments in the indoor space and this is yet another one. I can see this area growing with more products to follow which will cover almost all requirements.
This is something I have inquired from a few bike brands like Canyon on. Been wanting bike brands to offer a partial build option for a frame/groupset to be specially used on virtual trainers.
Having already purchased a zwift hub one, they need to offer the bike as a standalone option. Definitely makes more sense as a package than shelling out over £3k for a wahoo bike
Would like to have seen some kind of foot shoe for the front that would spread the load somewhat. It's a small footprint that will sink into most mats, including the kickr one. That and an optional fork footer that would fit with the Kickr climb.
I did a test ride on the Zwift Ride at the National Cycling Expo (Birmingham, UK), and .... just WOW ... gear changes were so smooth I could hardly believe it. I ride a regular bike on the Kickr Core with the Zwift Click and (at the suggestion of the Wahoo rep at the Expo) I have just submitted a service ticket with Wahoo because in comparison, my experience with the Zwift Click is laggy and "jumpy" is the only way I can describe it. Very seriously considering getting a Zwift Ride.

Since then I bought a Kickr bike so I’m hopefully not buying any indoor training stuff for quite a while! Looks a good product and hugely simplifies getting into Zwift compared to only a couple of years ago
Hmm aero tubing - that bike will be so much faster on the flats - wouldn't it be something if they incorporated a weight scale into the saddle to prevent weight doping - lol
Exactly what I was hoping for! However, it would be a *huge* deal breaker for me if you can't replace the chain ring. Since it's a normal chain, it will wear out both itself as well as the cog and chain ring. If you can't replace it you basically need to fork out for an entire new frame whenever it gets worn out...
The minimum reach still is very long for a huge percentage of riders. Most if not all the XS /S size frames reach is between 365-375. Also fixed 42cm handlebar width is also a very big con.
I would love to see direct connect. Maybe when you can connect with other KICKRs. I love the total reliability of a wired connection. Since I ride other platforms though, the virtual shifting is still dead for me.
I was hoping that the front of the bike would have an elevation gain hydraulic but that would probably make it much more expensive so a question is, can this frame be hooked up to one of those fork elevators to simulate hills? Another great video. Really appreciate this channel and very grateful for your expertise.

Couple of things if you don't mind please. Can you still use it with a cassette on the Core, with a straight chain line. And can the bar tape be easily changed, does the rubber round the controllers peel back easily like a normal STI? Thanks
Should ve gone with 11spd shimano or sram crankset. Could change crank length. Also, can use crank power meter. Elite races require two power meter readings.
What about saddle positions... It doesn't make sense for small people. They won't be able to get the saddle close enough over the bottom bracket. Am I missing something?

Can't wait to see the bar swap. Im looking at miving to the same bars as the Diverge with the 20mm hump and the flair. I sweat so carbon is absolutely out of the question.
Carbon bar is what you want if you sweat a lot. I blew through two aluminum handlebars before I got a composite one off EBay. Been fine since then. Salt isn’t friendly to metal.
Interesting given the sync up with Wahoo at the back that it's not compatible with things like the kickr rise. Or is that black bit on the front leg removable and some sort of fork thing is coming soon?
Waaaaayyy to early to think about, but I'd be interested in buying the brifters/controllers as a stand alone product. I have a normal frame and using older Ultegra Di2 shifters and disabled the brake lever swing (the bike never goes near a road). Buying these as a stand alone would be pretty neat.
@@Heliosmaster the play controller is in addition to the normal road drop bar brifters. Do away with it and just release Zwift controllers in a brake lever format like what's shown on this.
Bought the Kickr Core Zwift One back in March. Will certainly get the bike especially as my partner is now interested. Any ideas on the price for the frame only option?

At first, I was thinking this came with a screen as well, but alas it doesn't. Any direction would be helpful. Maybe showing your setup may be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Definitely a decent deal. Not as flexible of course as halfway decent Trek fitness bike + trainer + mat that would be about the same price or slightly more but it's also easier to use in the end. Basically, if not ever planning to go outside this seems like a decent solution. It's lack of handlebar movement though is not ideal imo. Still great package overall.
Don't forget that the virtual shifting *only* works with Zwift. So even if you're never going outside, you have to be never going outside and only wanting to shift on Zwift and nothing else. That part really sucks.

@@gplama DC Rainmaker posted about this. Zwift has been saying they were going to do it, but they've never done it. I love this product, but until they remedy that I'm not willing to marry all my hardware to one exclusive app.
Is the fore/aft saddle adjustment just what's available on the saddle rails? I think they missed the mark with the cranks. It would have been very easy to make something with multiple holes to give different crank lengths.
My biggest issue as a more serious cyclist is the lack of crank arm length adjustability. Future versions should include a climb feature. Looks like a good product for more casual consumers.
@@Andy_ATB well I do race and fitting a bicycle properly matters if you ride 400 km per week. Maybe that doesn’t matter to you, but that is likely the difference between you and me.
I find it odd that there is no subscription bundled with this, especially that you cannot use it with anything else. I will buy when they'll bundle a 1 year subscription as well with this price.
Interesting. My initial impression (if I were looking to buy) would be that the single option for crank length is a no-go for me. I would likely not buy this if I had to swap out the cranks immediately (if possible).
Is the seatpost reversible (or similar) in order to increase the saddle fore-aft options? Seems like quite a stretch to claim that the frame can accommodate such a wide range of riders if the fore-aft options is limited to the range allowed by just the saddleclamp?
They have the pricing right. Love that a few people in the same household can adjust the bike to suit them. I think it's a winner.

Carbon bar is what you want if you sweat a lot. I blew through two aluminum handlebars before I got a composite one off EBay. Been fine since then. Salt isn’t friendly to metal.
@@mikew466 Carbon will fail due to the wet conditions. The best thing is to forgo bar tape on a strictly indoor bicycle and frequently clean the bars.
feels like a miss not having some sort of climb integration or variable cranks lengths
Any update on frame only availability in Australia?
No word. I’ll ask this week at the TdU.
Interesting given the sync up with Wahoo at the back that it's not compatible with things like the kickr rise. Or is that black bit on the front leg removable and some sort of fork thing is coming soon?
6:30 hope they will be selling it separate from the trainer … just made a purchase of the kickr core from zwift. 😅
Waaaaayyy to early to think about, but I'd be interested in buying the brifters/controllers as a stand alone product. I have a normal frame and using older Ultegra Di2 shifters and disabled the brake lever swing (the bike never goes near a road). Buying these as a stand alone would be pretty neat.
isn't that basically what the zwift play is?
@@Heliosmaster the play controller is in addition to the normal road drop bar brifters. If the one shown in this are on a standard road handle bars, it would mean that you'd be able to take any old bike frame, single speed it and have all the road brifters positions but with controller buttons in the "right" places. If you use brifters without cables/hydraulics, the flap about and then you've the additional Zwift buttons on a different band. Do away with it and just release Zwift controllers in a brake lever format like what's shown on this.
Bought the Kickr Core Zwift One back in March. Will certainly get the bike especially as my partner is now interested. Any ideas on the price for the frame only option?
No price indication on the frame alone yet.
They should use the Canyon handlebar with adjustable barwidth.
What would be the best interactive screen, apple tv attached to a TV, large iPad screen, or your laptop computer/also connected to your tv is so equipped or standalone laptop.
How stable is the front "fork" because I get that a lot of stability comes from the rear trainer but 1 pole seems sleek but is it stable in sprints?
Rock solid. More contact area with the ground than a wheel. It also won’t roll forward.
really wonder if this would be good as i have 3 crashed vertebra after a road crash at the start of the covid lockdown in 2020 here in the uk
Have to wait wahoo allows virtual shifting for kickr 4 model or money for the 6 model.
I would have loved to see a tilt controller (ala Kicker Climb) on the front "wheel" (post). Maybe as an upgrade/version 2?
I already own a Kickr Core. Is this “frame” available separately (in the US)?
Not at this point. Soon.
I'm taking it that the Wahoo Climb is not compatible with the Zwift fork?
@@jimfaber1443correct
@@jimfaber1443 not as-is. The Climb needs a fork. This is a single peg-leg.
How much saddle fore/aft adjustment is available and what is the seat tube angle?
Just in time, my direto xr just packed up. Thats some timing.
At that price point, interested! The ergonomics of the lever hoods look very uncomfortable and sharp... are they?
No issues with them once I tilted them up a little.
Love it - nice one Zwift
So will I able to go back to Sufferfest (now Wahoo)? In erg mode? What are the mechanics of this transition?
Great video and thanks! Can you swoop out a tri bike on that KICKR CORE ONE trainer if you wanted?
Yep. That’ll work. You’ll need the Zwift Click or Play controllers to change virtual gears.
@@gplama Sweet! And thanks for the quickest reply I've ever had on UA-cam. I''ll be training for an IM next April, and don't have my race bike as of today and need start training a little bit and thought for the money..its a no brainer!
good review. I'm interested to know what those ali express bars are?
Can you use the Kickr climb with the bike?
No.
Hi Shane, is there anyway the cog v1 can be soundproofed as the noise is driving me up the wall. Would be great if there is a way as there seems to be lot's of posts about this on Reddit but no answer.
Would you know whether the virtual shifting protocol is available for app developers?
I haven't seen it implemented in any other app. Ultimately a question to ask Zwift direct.
@@gplama DC Rainmaker posted about this. Zwift has been saying they were going to do it, but they've never done it. I love this product, but until they remedy that I'm not willing to marry all my hardware to one exclusive app.
TY. Can it work paired with a Tacx trainer???????????????????
Not yet.
Mmmm not a bad offering. Look forward to your drill-down
GPL< sorry I missed it by someone, but is this compat w/ Wahoo Climb?
Is the fore/aft saddle adjustment just what's available on the saddle rails? I think they missed the mark with the cranks. It would have been very easy to make something with multiple holes to give different crank lengths.
Yes, rails only adjustment.
Hi, thx for this review ! Any idea when it's get available without with Home trainer only the Frame and most important how much ? bye
My biggest issue as a more serious cyclist is the lack of crank arm length adjustability. Future versions should include a climb feature. Looks like a good product for more casual consumers.
I'm on the case with the cranks. I'm sure there's a cheap solution if that's a limiter.
What is a serious cyclist? FFS what a load of bollocks.....
@@Andy_ATB Agreed! Unless I see you on the world tour you're an amateur.
@@Andy_ATB well I do race and fitting a bicycle properly matters if you ride 400 km per week. Maybe that doesn’t matter to you, but that is likely the difference between you and me.
Can you use it on a tacx trainer ?
So unfortunately the older kickrs won’t work as they don’t have virtual shifting? I have a kickr second generation
Wait, so this frame won't work on my existing Wahoo Kickr Core from a couple of years ago? 3:10
It will.
Just wondering if it will work with rouvy?
Only in ERG.
Is the seatpost reversible (or similar) in order to increase the saddle fore-aft options? Seems like quite a stretch to claim that the frame can accommodate such a wide range of riders if the fore-aft options is limited to the range allowed by just the saddleclamp?
No.
@@gplama ok thank you
Hi what the best method to pairing the Zwift Ride?
Bluetooth is the only way to pair/use the controllers. Bluetooth direct or via the Companion App (if required).
@@gplama Ant+ does not function ok didnt know that.
Thank you
So is the bike essentially a brick if you don't pay for a zwift subscription?
It’ll work fine in ERG on any platform. I guess it’s little a PlayStation controller. Don’t buy the controller if you want to play Xbox, etc.
