As someone about to set up for indoor cycling I have to disagree. I see I have the choice of kickr core + year of zwift (which includes either the virtual shifting and hub or a cassette) or for £600 more I can get no free year of zwift and this zwift ride frame, effectively making it £800 more if I want a year of zwift. And, to me, that makes no sense. Even if I didn't have a bike or I didn't want to use my bikes. I don't understand at all why this sku wouldn't include a free year of zwift. As for multiple people using it, I'm hesitant on that given the limited saddle fore/aft movement - others will complain about the fixed crank length too although I'm not convinced that is such a big deal. You know there's just about enough fore / aft on my saddles to fit them to a frame that's pretty damn close to the right size, for me. If I had to put someone else on my bike who was significantly shorter or taller and put the saddle in the right place? We're going to struggle without getting fancy seatposts etc. Look at the fore/aft saddle adjustment on a wattbike atom - that's what you need for "one size fits all" - and I bet without looking the other smart bikes are the same. You need something that slides back and forth by several cm not a few mm. And the irony is, if I get the kickr core + year of zwift with free cassette, I'm actually less tied into zwift even though I've effectively bought a year of zwift - than if I buy this, which I have to use on zwift, but they don't even include it in the (higher) price. That makes zero sense from a consumer pov. Even the kickr core + hub is easier to switch away to another platform whereas if zwift goes out of business or you find reasons not to use it, you have an expensive chocolate teapot that's shaped a bit like a bike in your garage - whereas if you got the kickr core, a year of zwift, cassette included and a bike, whatever a cheap hybrid - and then after a year of zwift you thought "It's not for me" you'd still have a bike you can use as a bike outdoors and that lots of people would buy because there's a bigger market for bikes than there are for zwift rides - and the trainer can be used on other platforms and someone would buy that.
Given the v6 has it and it's taking this long for the v5 to get virtual shifting, I no longer believe the v5 will get virtual shifting. There's not much difference between the models.
@gplama What is the minimum distance from the saddle nose to the centre of the BB. With a fairly long TT, smaller riders may need a lot of Fore adjustment of the saddle to get the right fit. Thanks 👍🏻

it’s absurd. why not just buy a cheap frame and trainer? they’re selling a steel frame that’s heavy, can’t be ridden outside, and is as expensive as a whole mid-range bicycle. it’s such a confusing product.
For everyone who done lot of especially indoor cycling remember to check seat post occasionally that it isn’t seized. It hasn’t happened for me yet but this is as a reminder. Easier to sell bike forward when needed.
Great review Shane, its time to take the covers off those crank arms and see if we can swap them, absolute deal breaker having only 170mm, makes me wonder if Zwift really understands serious cyclists
Awesome work once again Shane. Love developments in the indoor space and this is yet another one. I can see this area growing with more products to follow which will cover almost all requirements.
I have had this exact idea for a few years now! I think it’s a very good idea in principle. I would buy one when it becomes a available without the trainer as I already have that part!
I'm just about to move into a new place and the only space I'll have for my trainer is upstairs. This is a great solution for those who don't want to be taking a daily driver up and down stairs when you want a training session.
I've now watched several video reviews that say it is stable. When you think about it, a regular bike's front wheel has even less contact with the ground.
Hmm aero tubing - that bike will be so much faster on the flats - wouldn't it be something if they incorporated a weight scale into the saddle to prevent weight doping - lol

I ordered one last week and got an email with a DPD tracking number. Unfortunately the tracking number is not showing on the system I'm not getting much stasifaction from Zwift in tracking it. All I am getting from them is that it has been shipped and they are looking into it. I would be cautious before ordering. For the record i am in Ireland.
did anyone get the virtual shifting activated in Rouvy so far? Rouvy connects to the Kickr, but I can't shift as it does not recognize to Shifters. Driving in just one gear is not soooo much fun, actually ...
Actually in Australia they charging $250 for shipping which was misleading by wahoo in the lead up to launch. Comes to $2550 all up, which is not far off a smart bike from 99bikes when they have a sale…
It’ll physically mount. Virtual gears won’t work. Garmin/Tacx will need to release an update with compatibility for this to be of any use on their trainers.
Thanks for the timely and thorough review as usual, Shane. Here's a question: Currently, virtual gearing can be used without the Zwift Cog (i.e., by keeping analog gearing in one gear) - I do this via the Zwift Click on my Kickr Core, with a hybrid bike and SRAM cassette. Do you think the Ride frame and gearing set-up could be used with a Core that has a cassette (not the Cog)? This (the Ride) is exactly what I've been waiting for after 4 years Zwifting on an old hybrid, but I don't really want to buy a Core + Cog so am hoping the fall release date for the frame only will be brought forward. p.s. Looking forward to the next Zwiftcast!
Think the locking into Zwift is sort of the main differentiator to the SB20. Of course the SB20 is now dead with Stages having gone bust so that argument I guess if pretty much moot. Given how a lot of people are currently actually looking for cheaper alternatives, this would actually be a deal breaker for me.
I just ordered the zwift ride. Do you know if it is possible to mount toe clips on the pedals that comes with the bike? To be used by several persons who doesn't have bike shoes 😂
SO wishing it had capability for LESS than 170mm crank arms. At 5'5"/165cm I am using 155's and picked up 10w power immediately over 172. I'll be drilling and tapping.....
the fact they don't even have a chain protector for the sweat is an indication of how ill thought out this product is, let alone actually designing it with the best components rather than just stripping a normal bike down as much as possible. Totally agree with you. The trainer itself uses a belt...why they didn't also use one for the bike section baffles me.
Wait until the aluminum handlebar corrodes from salt and sweat and the bottom bracket needs replacing. People will wish they used a normal bike with replaceable parts.
Sick of having new tech launch as bundles. I bought a kickr core years ago and still can't get a hub on its own. Everything new I need to buy my trainer again to use the new stuff
A carbon belt would have been a better choice (and maintenance/dirt-free) than a chain. If Zwift had more foresight, they could have designed a single virtual cog that would work with a chain for existing cog owners and with a belt for new cog purchasers (e.g., an expandable or two-channel cog).
Is the fore/aft saddle adjustment just what's available on the saddle rails? I think they missed the mark with the cranks. It would have been very easy to make something with multiple holes to give different crank lengths.
Hi Shane, is there enough conductivity for Apple TV? I watched the DC Rainmaker video, he had some issues with using the Zwift companion app. I think I’ll be an early adopter for this.
I don’t have any issues with the Companion App or ATV (other than the connection limits). I run the App on an iPhone 12 with a solid WiFi setup in the Lama Lab.
Damn, I would purchase it (I currently own a Kickr v5 and Climb, but looking for a dedicated bike setup). As a tall rider though the 170mm cranks seem like a huge miss #ouchmyknees.. why didn't Zwift use the 'claw' type crank to have 5 length options.. or at least a standard crank so it can be swapped out (hopefully we can) Also, it would have been awesome if they integrated the fork with Wahoo, so it can be used for the Kickr Climb. If I go for the Zwift Ride frame, I probably have to sell the Climb.
@@michaelfreeburn-ku5vf why? like @gplama said....it's literally a more solid point of contact than the tiny bit of rubber of your front wheel. if you don't trust physics, drill in a plate yourself, but there's literally no reason to. I do agree it needs a rubber base though if they haven't got one on it. but then it's not hard to stick one on yourself (even though that should have been thought of)
Ah, 509mm max stretch (it’s not reach, at least as bike geo charts state it) seems a bit short for tall riders. My bike is 400mm reach with 130mm stem, so 530mm in the way Zwift measure.
Is the seatpost reversible (or similar) in order to increase the saddle fore-aft options? Seems like quite a stretch to claim that the frame can accommodate such a wide range of riders if the fore-aft options is limited to the range allowed by just the saddleclamp?
still having a chain that will wear out may cause power variations? I don't like the no fork front end. Seems weird but I do like the adjustability to get the fit dialed in. Please tell me its aluminum and not steel
there's literally no reason to have a wheel. It's weird to have one. In fact I've built a stand for my bike so that the QR skewer goes into a block of wood so I don't have a wheel taking up more space or ruining my wheel with sweat. there's lots on this bike that is ill thought out...the no front wheel is actually smart. I'm surprised they don't have a vibration add on or it built in to replicate cobbles and rough roads when using the simulators. And suspension options for MTBers.
I dont know if it has been answered in the kickr core video. But what is the sound? I am due to a change from my tacx neo t8000 and this sounds like a good deal with a year of zwift as well. But I need the sound to not be VERY loud. My tacx Neo T800 is very silent atleast
I see the US pricing is $1299.99 factoring this by 1.5 would equate to $1,950 AUD. Is the extra $350 being charged to Aussies covering shipping or some other charge??
USD to AUD -> 1,951.35. +GST, $2146.485. The thing ships in three boxes, one that's bloody huge... so we're not being shagged too hard over the price here. I'm just happy to see the hardware being available at all here.

isn't that basically what the zwift play is?
@@Heliosmaster the play controller is in addition to the normal road drop bar brifters. If the one shown in this are on a standard road handle bars, it would mean that you'd be able to take any old bike frame, single speed it and have all the road brifters positions but with controller buttons in the "right" places. If you use brifters without cables/hydraulics, the flap about and then you've the additional Zwift buttons on a different band. Do away with it and just release Zwift controllers in a brake lever format like what's shown on this.
I would have loved to see a tilt controller (ala Kicker Climb) on the front "wheel" (post). Maybe as an upgrade/version 2?
The trick shots 😂
Is the "bike" alone available for users which own already a Wahoo Kickr?
6:40 in the video. Not initially but soon.
Actually in Australia they charging $250 for shipping which was misleading by wahoo in the lead up to launch. Comes to $2550 all up, which is not far off a smart bike from 99bikes when they have a sale…
At that price point, interested! The ergonomics of the lever hoods look very uncomfortable and sharp... are they?
No issues with them once I tilted them up a little.
I already own a Kickr Core. Is this “frame” available separately (in the US)?
Not at this point. Soon.
I'm taking it that the Wahoo Climb is not compatible with the Zwift fork?
@@jimfaber1443correct
@@jimfaber1443 not as-is. The Climb needs a fork. This is a single peg-leg.
really wonder if this would be good as i have 3 crashed vertebra after a road crash at the start of the covid lockdown in 2020 here in the uk
Hi, thx for this review ! Any idea when it's get available without with Home trainer only the Frame and most important how much ? bye
Does it come with a years subscription to zwift might be tempted
No
Have you tried to mount it on any other smart trainer like tacx neo?
Have now read all the comments and see you've already addressed it (chain width issue). Thanks, Shane.
good review. I'm interested to know what those ali express bars are?
Have to wait wahoo allows virtual shifting for kickr 4 model or money for the 6 model.
Just wondering if it will work with rouvy?
Only in ERG.
How much saddle fore/aft adjustment is available and what is the seat tube angle?
I just ordered the zwift ride. Do you know if it is possible to mount toe clips on the pedals that comes with the bike? To be used by several persons who doesn't have bike shoes 😂
It’ll take any standard threaded pedal type.
Great video! Btw can you tilt the shifters (inside) or they have position possible?
Yep, the shifters can be moved around a little. I'll take them off in a few days for my bar swap. I'll get some footage of that.
SO wishing it had capability for LESS than 170mm crank arms. At 5'5"/165cm I am using 155's and picked up 10w power immediately over 172. I'll be drilling and tapping.....
Now, do I sell the Kickr V5 and get this lot or, wait for virtual shifting on the V5?
Is it compatible with the KICKR Climb?
No
Can I do my trainingpeaks’s workouts indoor using this Bike and Kickr core??
Sure. You’ll need something to control the bike/trainer with those workouts.
For example unit bolt? Sure? But you can use only erg mode I suppose
@@joepass83 If TrainingPeaks syncs workouts to the BOLT, yes.
Doesn’t look like it’s compatible with the Kickr Climb?
Not without a welder. 👨🏭
This really should have been developed with a belt. Missed a big opportunity to have a really good product with one.
the fact they don't even have a chain protector for the sweat is an indication of how ill thought out this product is, let alone actually designing it with the best components rather than just stripping a normal bike down as much as possible.
Will it work on the Tacx Neo?
No
A carbon belt would have been a better choice (and maintenance/dirt-free) than a chain. If Zwift had more foresight, they could have designed a single virtual cog that would work with a chain for existing cog owners and with a belt for new cog purchasers (e.g., an expandable or two-channel cog).
It'd require an interesting redesign with more than just standard chainring/cog/chain they've gone with initially.
Will it fit on a regular kicker?
It’ll work on Kickrs that support virtual shifting within Zwift.
Is the fore/aft saddle adjustment just what's available on the saddle rails? I think they missed the mark with the cranks. It would have been very easy to make something with multiple holes to give different crank lengths.
Yes, rails only adjustment.
Ok thanks Shane.
Damn, I would purchase it (I currently own a Kickr v5 and Climb, but looking for a dedicated bike setup). As a tall rider though the 170mm cranks seem like a huge miss #ouchmyknees.. why didn't Zwift use the 'claw' type crank to have 5 length options.. or at least a standard crank so it can be swapped out (hopefully we can)
Also, it would have been awesome if they integrated the fork with Wahoo, so it can be used for the Kickr Climb. If I go for the Zwift Ride frame, I probably have to sell the Climb.
Does it seem wobbly at all on sprints?
That front post scares me a bit
Stability is all from the rear. The front has more contact area with the ground than a wheel.
Seen my 2889719kg KICKR BIKE moving... i can't trust this frame....
agree , that front post needed a base plate, will be through the rubber mat in no time
@@michaelfreeburn-ku5vf why? like @gplama said....it's literally a more solid point of contact than the tiny bit of rubber of your front wheel. if you don't trust physics, drill in a plate yourself, but there's literally no reason to.
No.
@@gplama ok thank you
still having a chain that will wear out may cause power variations?
I like it
Would like to know if it is stable during full out sprints.
Yes. Same if not more stable than a Kickr Core with a front wheel.
I dont know if it has been answered in the kickr core video. But what is the sound? I am due to a change from my tacx neo t8000 and this sounds like a good deal with a year of zwift as well. But I need the sound to not be VERY loud. My tacx Neo T800 is very silent atleast
It’s not loud. They’ve updated the Cog ⚙️ for a little less noise too.
Dumb question. if you use your own power meter pedals with the kickr or zwift trainer, do you still get the advantage of less lag?
Race mode on the Zwift trainer (HUB) was faster than any pedal power meter. The lag is negligible between them for most riding/training indoors.
i don't think you've mentioned it, but are the stock handlebars adjustable for width? if not how wide are they?
No width adjustable handlebars are very rare. Stock bars are 42cm width. Those measurements are covered in this video.
How sturdy is the front stem being on the floor?
No issues with stability.
does frame work with Kickr v5?
No
@@gplama Okey. I just placed order :) 1500 euros with floor mat and tablet holder, not bad!!
How does the ‘click’ work with it? An extra shifter of sorts?
Yes indeed. Mentioned in this video.
Watched your video on video overlays,Garmin virb to be exact but, it's been a year now & the software is a mess now. I can't import a FIt or GPX file as the Virb edit won't display the map for me to be able to tell where I'm at to then sync. Other than the paid Telemetry, is there any free software for making cycling overlays out there? I'm a Mac user by the way.
VIRB Edit is likely dead by now. I'm yet to look into any other solutions as I haven't had the need for a while. It's on the cards.
