I just had this problem today. Had no idea what to do so I went to you tube. And sure enough…what this guy did is exactly what fixed it! Thank you so very much!!!
Thank you! It did not work on mine but it was worth a try. We even fired up the air compressor for a little more air pressure than what the can provides… which blew out a little more WD-40. Then we removed the panel and also pulled the latch out to see the connections (three more screws). We disconnected the smaller wire connection to the latch and put some electrical tape (over the car wiring connection end), just in case water gets in. We tested everything again before deciding to put it all back together. So now there is no more dash warning, and the courtesy lights all still work (when they should come on and when they should go off, even by opening the lift gate, which actually surprised me) and my remote car starter still works which totally surprised me. Mine is a 2008 Grand Cherokee Laredo Rocky Mountain series if that helps anyone. Thanks again for the video!

I can hear mine clicking when I press my remote to open , then I try to open it and it appears to be locked still . I’m going to try this , only problem is I can’t get it open . I wonder if I can open it from inside if I crawl back there 🤔
Thank you so much for this! Having this problem all the time with my 2010 GC. Can’t lock it overnight or I take the chance of waking the whole neighborhood; which has happened twice in the past. My remote start won’t work when that liftgate light is on either.
Trying this right now. Haha. Hope it works. I was ready to find the fuse and just disconnect the censor. I'm pretty sure this is going to work though. I had already oiled it...but didn't think to spray it with the dust can. Great tips!

I recently replaced my lift gate glass and it stills shows on the dash that lift gate glass is open. Will this work for the light gate glass mechanism ?

i struggled too and this won’t help you now but maybe someone else will see it - just pretend you’re opening the trunk and lift up on the handle!
